- 7-1-90 Tigers at Royals. Hall of Famer Jack Morris is on the mound, and Bo Jackson takes him nearly out of the ballpark in KC.
Watch the entire game here: • 7-1-90 Detroit Tigers ... Спорт
I saw a lot of those in KC. Doubleheaders were $3.00. Thank you, Dad for taking me.
What's the longest homer you ever saw bo hit at kc? Any in the water towards center? They never show those! In a doc about bo some batting coach was saying how he hit the crown at kc in practice but I cant believe it. That's like a 600 ft shot lol
Thats so 👌awesome. Cheers 🍻
Amazing!
White privilege
No just dad privilege
Nothing like the sounds of Sunday afternoon baseball from a long gone era.
I agree, although I can’t wait to see fans at at least 75 percent capacity again. It’s time.
haven't watched since the Greg Anderson - Bonds thing (not to mention all the rest of the 'roid $$$ cheaters who helped erase baseball's past). Fitting that Bonds remains the record holder and Anderson gets out after one year, despite failing to cooperate and tell the truth. Truth hasn't been told much in this country in a long time. Anyway, after a lifetime in baseball, I haven't watched a MLB game since '04. Glad to see NCAA bb every year though.
George Kell and Al Kaline.
Beloved Memories of Detroit Tigers Baseball.
George Kell was one of the best and most underrated play by play guys in baseball.
Indeed John B. Many fond memories growing up listening to George and Al. So sad Al had to leave us last year, especially at a time when the throngs of Tiger fans never got to say farewell to this Tiger legend. Bo Jackson was imo the single greatest athlete of my time.
@@djpieh Cincinat uh
Yeah. George and Al.
@@cbrippee I think what done Bo Jackson in was playing two sports.
Wages were not exactly what they are today in profession sports.
That injury that occurred in Buffalo during that play-off game really ended his sports career.
If he played only baseball like Kirk Gibson had done he would have put more mileage on his career than damaging his overall health like football has done to many.
So wonderful to hear George Kell and Al Kaline from the booth, again.
The very Heart of the Detroit Tigers
George and Al were great, but Ernie and Paul are the standard by which I judge all radio announcers. Damn...I was fortunate to have grown up listening to them! And, it turns out that Paul Carey is from my hometown and started in radio on WCEN, where I tuned in to listen to the Tigers as a child!
I just missed hearing them announce Kaline’s 3000th hit. That’s how old I am.
He hit it a mile! A mile and a half!
Only George Kell
I was thinking the same thing!
I am with you:) Whenever a player on either team crushed the ball, you would hear George Kell's voice perk up with excitement," OHH!, he hit it a mile". The way he said it instantly got you excited.
I love that the OF didn't even move...Bo is the greatest athlete I've ever been fortunate enough to watch.
U haven't seen many then lol
@ name one better

Jordan couldn't hit a baseball : )
Bo Jackson... The best pure athlete I have ever seen.
There has never been an athlete like him since!
The 2 people that gave this a thumbs down was the pitcher and the catcher.

I give it a thumbs down for the poor camera work. We never see where the ball landed.

I'll.,....,
The good guy won that battle. I worked for Tiger Stadium security in 1987 right after Tom Monahan bought them. One of the most memorable days was the day I got escort Bo Jackson to and from his autograph signings. Nicest guy you could meet, humble, reserved and very polite to everyone he met. On the other hand Jack Morris was the antithesis of Bo. True story...Morris was leaving the locker room walking backwards while talking to someone down the concourse and hence ran into a special needs young man who was asking for Jack's autograph. Morris nearly knocked the kid over. He dropped his paper & pen and d-bag Jack just kept on walking....
By happen chance in 2015, I played a round of golf with Ken Griffey Jr. at Carnoustie in Scotland. I asked him during the round which home runs he had that were memorable. He told me he didn't really remember any of them, but only had vivid recollections of the homers Bo hit. What a compliment.
AMAZING story
Griffey was obviously lying. But nice compliment for bo
What a classy player that Bo was-- A man that could have "showboated"-- But NEVER did. I wish more of today's athletes would carry themselves in similar manner.
Nobody did any elaborate handshake routines, just kept their heads down and went about their business.
He took awhile on that trot and watching the ball.
@@MrRyan-wu4jx So you considered that showboating?
@@mudkat7611 I don’t care personally but a lot of MLB players do. He’d likely get pegged next at bat nowadays
@Joshua Halsted that's built like a linebacker 😏
Tigers Hall of Fame player, and longtime announcer, George Kell on the call. RIP George.
Al Kaline, another Tigers HOFer is the other voice you hear.
@@thomascox-doc9122 Love 'em both. Two Hall of Famers in the TV booth, and Ernie Harwell of the H of F in the radio booth, with the great Paul Carey. Hard to fathom they are all gone.
Al Kaline was the color commentator. Both were HoF Tigers and both are now gone. Kell and Kaline... the voices of Tigers baseball during my youth. RIP
@@control_the_pet_population voices from my childhood.
@@williamwhiting6285 Thanks for explaining where Ernie Harwell is! Didn't realize the Tigers had two separate broadcast teams for TV and radio!
Great clip. Bo Jackson. Jack Morris. And don't forget George Kell and Al Kaline with the call. This was a great era for baseball.
Is this the same Danny Stevenson who worked at Pontiac SPO? Great tiger fan, class co-worker,dad, and friend ... John Otter
Fortunate enough to watch this guy in his prime, the absolute greatest athlete ever, power, speed, great arm a shame a freak injury robbed him of years of playing
Hearing George Kell and Al Kaline voices just brought back alot of memories.
The sound of the bat/ball connection is beautiful. Apparently Bo created a sound when he connected that put him in the elite company of legends.
It's been a long time since I heard the voice of George Kell.
The SOUND of that hit... holy smokes.
Would have loved to have heard it in person. Apparently one can tell especially by players when a ball is hit right on the screws. Incredible
So nice to hear George and Al again. It is instant summer.
Kudos to you NicholasDad77, for leaving the video out there long enough to hear HOFer George Kell note that the lead was "Fahve to three, in the sixth inning." You got Bo, and a Series win in '15, Morris was part of the '84 Series-winning Tigers, and Kell was a big deal in the TV booth, like Denny Matthews has been on the radio for the Royals.
Thanks, John. I loved Kell and Kaline in the booth. And Denny Matthews was also a pleasure to listen to! Was also a Bob Davis fan.
As a Tigers Fan it was great to hear George Kell and Al Kaline call that shot.
I saw Bo hit a titanic shot in the old Cleveland stadium. That place was an absolute cow pasture and Bo crushed this pitch and it was a no doubter.
The fact that he excelled in 2 sports is amazing, but what still gets me is how he came back from his injury in Football to continue playing Major League Baseball.
If only he had come along a decade later. Medical advances would have prolonged his career. Bo was like a superhero when I was a kid. Who can forget that baseball card with the bat and shoulder pads.
Bo Jackson=Greatest athlete of all time.
I don't know whats more impressive from the TV perspective: the fact that the camera couldn't zoom out enough to find the baseball in the outfield, or the fact they didn't even show the next batter and just showed the replay.
July 4 1990 Royals at home vs Yankees...Bo hit one above the lighting and dropped on the grass over center field wall...great fireworks after game
Bo Jackson is like that one huge fish that got away.
It would’ve been so fun to see how his career would’ve unfolded had he not been injured.
As a Broncos fan, I have to wonder just how many Super Bowls he and Elway would have won together had he worn orange and blue and played football full time.
As a baseball fan that has watched many a game at Coors Field in Denver, I have to wonder how far Peak Bo would have sent a baseball hitting in that park. Wyoming? Idaho? Canada?
Oh how I miss listening to Al Kaline and George Kell call a game. Imo the best tandem ever. And if you couldn't tune them in, Ernie Harwell was calling it on the radio. Those were fine days indeed. 3 of the most respected men in baseball. R.I.P. guys. Thank you.
That was a change up so Bo knows junk pitchers too.
Had Bo not played football and got severely injured, he would of become a first ballot MLB HOF'er. Perhaps the greatest 5 tool player of all time!
That one should should’ve had a stewardess and and in-flight movie 🎥
It was in the air for so long .....Russia thought it was a surface to air missile !
Kaline and Kell. The good old days
The legendary George Kell & Al Kaline w/the call.
Some of us were lucky enough to have lived in those times. There were a lot of greats in those days.
The Royals had the most beautiful stadium.
As a Yankee fan, I always dreaded when they played there in those rivalry years. The turf was so fast and KC had great speed...and Brett was a real pain. As much as I hated those Royals teams, I do miss those battles.
@@fjr70ify That was a great rivalry. Those KC teams have a certain toughness about them and represent ‘worthy adversaries’. As an old Raider fan, the Chiefs were always a tough opponent as well.
Hands down agree.
I was at that stadium 3 years ago and they really improved it from what I saw on this clip.
The late great Tigers announcers George Kell and Al Kaline.
Hall of Fame mlb ex Tigers on the microphone- George Kell+ Al Kaline Both AL Batting Champs TY for posting
I really miss George Kell and Al Kaline has Tiger announcers. Both having strong historical pasts as great Tiger players. Al Kaline is a hall of famer. I met both in the Fall of 1983 and were true classic acts.
I've met Black Jack and he is one of the most down to earth dudes. Old school, they don't make them like they made Jack anymore.
I was lucky enough to see Bo once in Toronto.
KC has such a beautiful ballpark.
I miss Royals Stadium when it didn't have all of the advertising on the walls or seats on the grassy area. It's so busy (and I think tacky) now. Such a shame.
Wonder if this is the home run where Buck O'Neil said "he heard that sound" that he hadn't heard since Josh Gibson
No that was batting practice, he hit the top of the crown.
Bating Practice
Dead center
0:44 Yea he did...and from the most powerful core and lower body in MLB.
Wish I got to watch him live! We will never see another athlete like him EVER
He was special. I saw him play college football. He turned the corner on a run and turned on the jets down the sideline and there was a giant "ooooh" from the spectators. There will never again be a player that combined size and speed like Bo.

Kaline and George Kell on the the call. Miss them both, good ole days
The best athlete ever !
Without a doubt power and speed like no other
@ go and check the video of his baseball coach at Auburn.! Check the pitchers that he hit home runs off. Better yet check out some of his runs when with the Raiders and than tell me who you think is better ? Listen to the people he played against .
@ give me one athlete that is the closest to his talent Bobby. Come on man
@ Give me names bob. Two sport pro players that were as good as Bo Jackson! Still waiting just one.

Man, what might have been if Bo had just stuck with baseball? I guess it wasnt in the cards but man what a career he could have had in baseball.
Would love to know the exit velocity on this comet
Heard so much about George Kell when I first got to college in Toledo and made a bunch of friends who are Tiger fans. I think this is the first time I've ever actually heard one of his calls.
Bo J. Best athlete ever seen in my life.
isnt odd now to see our old games without the games stats staying on the screen all the tyme..??
Bo Jackson is the greatest athlete of all time.
Good to hear old George Kell again from my memory banks.
Played for the Raiders and in K.C. for the Royals. That must have been somewhat weird for fans. Nonetheless, he was the best NFL running back I've ever seen. A close second was Barry Sanders.
That crack of the bat is all I needed to hear
That left fielder never moved an inch
Awesome camera work
Solid bat sound!!!
LOL yea unlike the bats and balls of today, juiced more than the players xD that was pure power
Was at this game. Good to see the clip has survived. I do remember Bo hitting in Brett and the look on George's face was relief that he could get some shade in the dugout. It was real hot that day.
Here's the whole game if you wanna relive it. :) I watched in full some time ago though I forgot most of it, may again soon. ruclips.net/video/qzq7ShyGyj8/видео.html
That ball hit the top of the fence all the way at the very back of the stadium and came back to the bottom of the berm. That one was a mammoth blast
Any idea how far that one went? At least 500 feet
Both Jackson was an absolute stud....I'm a Raider fan. Lol
Jeez.....what a bomb, and on an off speed pitch no less. The only movement by any of the players on the field was just to see how far the ball went. We will never see the like of Bo Jackson ever again
the bad video quality of the day just adds to the mystique and the legend - the ball was never seen again after it left the bat
My pick for athlete of the Century. I saw him hit a "yard" foul ball home run on a checked swing with 1 hand on the bat. He was a brute and he was a CLEAN brute....he was no juice pig.
What a shame we didn't have more BO
They fixed that ballpark when they switched to grass and then completely ruined it when they put seats in place of the grass hills.
Bo knows baseball!
Bo was a MONSTER!
Truly great ball player!
i remember bo hitting another one that almost got into the concession stand, this one landed in the grass embankment, the camera man had no idea where it was.
The Short Stop
"Cheese as you please"
THE GLORY DAYS!!!
Bo sure was jogging around those bases extra slow
Trying to admire the home run trot old school players did it too
Also reggie jackson and Barry bonds did it too
Camera person lost track of the flight of the ball. Couldn’t see how close the ball came to clearing the fence.
Winfield hit on over the RCF bullpen hitting the fence.
@@homerun8032 Wow. Winfield is also a great multi sport athlete.
Think of the .75 upper reserve at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore on a warm summer day. Simpler times.
Bo knows hard hitting!! 💪
How far up the stands did the ball first hit?
There is no one alive that saw an athlete on par with Bo Jackson. I never saw Jim Thorpe but even still I have a hard time believing Thorpe could compare to Jackson.
I wish he had stuck to baseball and not got injured. I honestly thought he was going to be a 20-time all-star before he was done. He was a strikeout machine and didn't know how to steal despite being one of the very fastest players in baseball, but he did things no one else could do. You had to see his arm to believe it, you had to see him run to believe how fast he was, he was just a ridiculous athletic talent.
Clone this man’s DNA. Create supersoldiers.
Homerun so epic they don't even show the next batter, just a slow mo replay of the home run.
How far was it?
Jim Thorpe was the greatest athlete in American history. Bo Jackson might be 2nd.
Lol he couldn’t compete today
Blah blah blah blah blah blah
@ Jordan only played minor league ball when he played in the NFL. Ditched football altogether when he got to the Majors
Jack Morris was a great pitcher too
I wish I could see where it landed. If that hit the top of the fence that's gotta be on the list of longest home runs ever. I've never seen someone hit a homer that far in the stadium. Absolutely crushed.
@ Im well aware, but if that truly hit the top of the fence at The Royals stadium, in keft field, tgats 500 plus. Thats an absolute bomb. Thats easiky as far as Piazza's blast in the Dodgers stadium that was 500ft plus.
No bat flip. None needed. The shot spoke volumes
Jack Morris is a Tiger legend, but gave up a lot of HR's when his split finger pitch would hang up in the strike zone. In the 80's he was always in the top 5 of giving up HR's. Plus he also pitched a lot of innings. Sparky gave him a long leash.
Never too long for Jack, he didn't like to come out
Left fielder - "Why waste any energy"
Most incredible power athlete in team sports history
Bo was such a great athlete
George Brett once called Bo Jackson a "superhuman".
That drop off scares me. I would not go anywhere near that part of the stand.
Bo knows:One of the best athletes in history!!
If it wasn't for the hip injury B0 would have even accomplished more the best pure athlete i ever seen if he chose to just play baseball he would have hit 500 home runs and be in the hall of fame still in the year 2021 no one is even in his stratosphere
Bo knows Power, That was a bomb and a half
What could have been...threw it all away playing two sports. Nobody since has had the potential of Bo Jackson. Pure speed, raw power. Had he taken winters off to work on his defense and hitting and being more selective at the plate, cutting down on strike outs he would have been one of the greatest players of all time. There's no way-no freaking way you can play the position of NFL running back, especially with his size he was a human bulldozer, and play a 162 game baseball schedule. He'd walk off the diamond and report to the Raiders a day or two later, then suit up for the game that weekend. I'm sorry, but that's pure arrogance to think you can do that. He should have made his decision when he left Auburn and stuck with it. In the end it damaged the Royals, the White Sox who never got the player they hoped for, and the Raiders, and most of all, Bo himself, for the absolute physical damage it did to his body and shortened his pro career by as many as 10 seasons. Had Bo just played baseball, George Brett would have been only the 2nd best player on a very good team.
Sounds like George Kell doing play by play.
It was George Kell.
Bo was always a good businessman. Slow trot that for as long as you can.
Bam!!!
I don't think it's landed yet.
That ball is somewhere near Saturn
Oh...my.
