    • @rpimentel87
      @rpimentel87 3 года назад +92

      Indeed. People forget that One Piece isn’t entirely a pure action series. A world dense in lore and philosophy, the story needs to be careful weaved so that it all makes sense. It really irks me when we get to the chapters where we’re getting valuable info and background and people start crying and yelling “filler” and will skip them. I’ve met people that have skipped all of Skypiea just to get to the arcs with the big fights. This is such a integral arc for the entirety of One Piece that it always impresses me when Oda finds a way to tie in stuff back to this arc.

      @@rpimentel87 I would argue it isn’t an action manga. There’s good action, but rarely is that the center stage. If it wasn’t Shonen I think it’ would actually have far less fights, really the fights are just narrative vehicles vs something like dbz ( which is amazing in its own right) that the fight and action scenes are the meat and potatoes.

    Everything seems fine on the surface, but in reality Enel (Celestial Dragons) is abusing their power and oppressing the people. Luffy is the natural enemy of the antagonist because he’s rubber (pirate with D.) and he’s searching for the golden bell (the One Piece) which is hidden in Upper Yard (Raftel). Luffy even gets the people to rise up and revolt with him, and learns about the Void Century through the poneglyphs.

      @Hi I'm Swiss
      Technically, even if voltage is applied, and if current doesn't pass, nothing will happen.
      However, the magnitude of Eneru's voltage can ionize the air itself making it conductive and hence, current can flow.
      So inspite of the high resistance, the current can pass through if a high enough voltage is applied, to force the ions and electrons to move inside the material, thus causing the current.
      FYI: @HSuper Lee
      ohms + resistance doesn't create heat if the resistance is high enough to lower the current to be very small.
      The heat relation is Q = I^2 R or Q = V^2 / R.
      So, even though voltage is more, if resistance is high enough, heat will be less. Meaning unless higher current passes, higher heat won't be generated.
      Hence, voltage+resistance doesn't always give heat
      Current+ resistance will definitely gives heat.
      However, if voltage is very high ( the million volts of eneru), then the voltage over powers the resistance to cause current inside the object, and that flowing current will cause immense heat as that much voltage can even ionize the air molecules making it conductive and pass electric current.

    Skypiea was the first Arc that I owned other than East blue, so I've read it at least 7 or 8 times, and for that it has a special place in my heart.
    The ringing of the Bell, everytime without fail even as I am just thinking about it to write this, gives me chills, it is just so powerful and emotionally charged by the flashback and by their promise to Cricket. Such a powrful scene without a doubt.
    The Flashback of Mont Blanc Noland and Kalgara is the main dish of this Arc. It is such a tragic and somewhat romantic story.
    Noland trying to do the right thing to save Kalgara and his people, his daughter at that too, but inadvertently angering them by unknowingly disrespecting their beliefs and customs. Destroying their sacred forest to save the people lives even tho it almost cost Noland and his crew the friendships they had formed, Kalgara rushing to the shore to see Noland off and inviting them again. Very strong parallels to Vivi and our crew.
    Such a beautiful friendship is formed between these two men throught hardship and misunderstanding.
    And then the island disappearance.
    Kalgara doing all he can in his power to ring the bell to guide Noland back to him, Noland being executed and his final thoughts are for his Friend and his well-being. The flashback coming to an end with such a bitter ending, just hurts me so much. I held back tears just writting and thinking about this flashback.
    Skypiea is by far in my top 10 arcs, I'd even say top 5. It is just so damn well written.

      Plus to the point with no deaths through Enels Power, if I remember corret, the ones getting hit were Zoro, Sanji, Usopp, Robin, Viper and Gan Fort.
      SOME SPOILER AHEAD:
      Zoro probably has a strong body due to his possible relation with Shimotsuki and Ryuma.
      Sanji as Queen said is maybe modified but kept his emotions.
      Viper has a strong blody due to being a descendant of Kalgara.
      Gan Fort was the previous "God" so we could assume he has a strong body as well.
      Robin so far I am unsure until we may figure out who her father is, her Mother was in contact with the Revolutionaries, so who knows.
      Usopp is like a Joker at this point, he can be crushed, but he is our God, and he is the son of Yasopp.
      So yeah, basically Enel can kill Normal people without problem I think, just the people he encountered weren't normal.

One Piece is different as in: most people survive most things, but when someone dies, the death usually is very impactful.

      keeping in mind the target audience (teens and under) also probably helps to explain why there arent as many deaths as there should be. while i dont think kids are as frail and should be sheltered from stuff like death as much as some people may think, based on experience and observation, publishers seem to disagree, lol.

    Enel's "real" power is definitely an area of debate among the fandom - but not in the way that you might think. In fact, most people seem to agree that he wouldn't really be that big of a threat to the pirates of the New World.
    That's because he is lacking one essential thing: Armament Haki.
    It's the great equaliser for logia-type Devil Fruits, after all - in the New World, most people would suddenly be able to touch and wound Enel. And we see in this arc that that's something he isn't prepared for in the slightest.
    His lightning would still be dangerous, but he would lose his biggest advantage, and it doesn't seem like he has much of a counter for that glaring weakness.

The almost completely exotic land and technology, the backstory with Noland and Calgara leading to the centuries long tensions between the Shandians and Skypians, it felt very big even with how isolated it seemed to be. The antagonists however, do bring it down a lot. The only lieutenant with a memorable gimmick was Gedatsu and the mysteries of the Dials alone overshadow the other three priests. Enel/Eneru's personality really carries the present battle. Him defeating everyone by himself and leaving only Luffy to defeat "God" is an all time climax of the series for me both dramatically and thematically
