The saddest thing about skipping Skypeia is that it's one of the funniest arcs, at least in the Anime, some of the moments that have made me laugh the hardest are in this arc, everyone should hear Luffy's Island Weather song and watch Zoro unintentionally bully a South Bird
Don’t forget in the Dub Luffy propses to Nami, Ganfall, and Aisa to find the Snake’s butthole to get out that way the next time it goes to the bathroom and Nami uses her Special Haki to beat Luffy up and yell “I’d rather get digested first!” 😹 lolololol
If you skipped Skypiea, but like sing the praises of Water 7 and Enies Lobby all I can say is: WHAT??? I love this arc but even if you don't there is one major factor. Like if Skypiea does one thing good it is showing that Robin is a member of the crew now. Robin is the one an archeologist and this arc is perfect for her first adventure, she is thrown right in the middle of a forgotten kingdom. The whole reason why you're invested in Water 7 in the first place is the interaction she has with the crew in this arc and Long Ring Long Land to a lesser extent. This is like reading Romance Dawn and Orange Town and then skipping Syrup village and Baratie because you heard that Arlong Park is great and Namis character moment is emotional. The only reason moments like these are emotional is because if what came before. Like look, why would you care about Luffy fighting Ussop about getting a new ship if you didn't see Bellamy wreck the Merry more than any time before just to than get wrecked even more and mysteriously repaired. Why would care about Merry's funeral or that the Klabautermann spoke to them without having context? Why would you even care Franky stealing the money to repair Merry WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY EVEN GOT IT FROM??? Like huh? These aren't moments good because of isolated storytelling, but because a seed was planted long before.... WTF y'all
The arc was longer than it needed to be, the side characters were completely forgettable, Enel (overrated) is a character the One Piece fanbase seems to hype up even though he couldn't even kill off fodder characters, I completely forgot his minions names, Luffy being trapped in a snake TWICE was annoying, after a while you forget that you're on the grandline because they've been in the sky forever. Sure it was important for plot purposes which I won't dispute but that still doesn't make it a good arc. The arc being important to the story still doesn't make it a good arc. As a reader or viewer you still wanna keep us I vested and I just lost interest as I watched each episode. Same thing with Long Long Island. It was important as well but it doesn't mean it was good. Now one thing I will agree is people should never by any means skip an arc. That's bad juju but I won't pretend to say that I enjoyed Skypiea. It had moments for sure but overall I didn't care for the arc.
@@Acetag31 That’s pretty fair, just as it is fair for some people to say they don’t like One Piece. The things you didn’t like about the arc are pretty subjective since it’s stuff other people loved. One Piece is my fav peace of fiction ever but I still know there are a handful of better written and better paced shows out there. What I love about it sm that it makes me forget pacing and writing details (which are present at every arc) is how amazing the characters are each single damn time and how legendary and huge the world seems. Eneru might be overrated power wise but he is not by any means a bad villain, he is holding the people way harder than Crocodile and makes sure to increase the stakes every time he shows up. Forgetting his priests names is pretty fair, I just could never forget Gan Fall fighting one of them after one of the best monologues in the whole show explaining how some criminals are good or bad depending on the times they live in (Luffy’s crew) or Chopper finally having 1 v 1s and risking his life against two of them. Or Zoro and Wyper trying to kill each other with a crazy priest in the middle. I think we’re supposed to forget for a while that we’re on the Grand Line, Oda wants us to feel like the Straw Hats and Luffy doesn’t care waiting longer to achieve his dream as long as he can enjoy the hell out of a crazy adventure. I’m sorry I just did the same thing you did giving examples of what I loved about it which is also pretty subjective. It’s just that I used to not like it but reading the manga and rewatching it made my eyes glow because of how amazing I think it actually really is.
Genuinely surprised that you didn't touch on how Skypeia also hammers home Usop's love for the Going Merry which later becomes a major plot point in Water Seven, leading to perhaps the most heartbreaking moment in the entire series.
Skypiea is the reason why they need to go to Water 7 in the first place - no normal ships can withstand the stress of going up and down a Sky Island and Going Merry is a very normal ship. We know for a fact that Going Merry won't last long in Grand Line, and the Skypiea adventure is the final nail in her coffin. Enel and the characters of Skypiea might have not show up anymore, but everything else about Skypiea is crucial for the overarching plot of One Piece. To skip it is just wrong imho.
@@Chaosking707 Absolutely! There were a lot of great moments in that arc. If anything, I'd skip past the Davyback games but even THAT was a fun watch, you know? One Piece is great
i initially skipped cuz the pacing of the anime was pissing me off but i later went back and read the skypeia arc when i switched to the manga. toei almost kills the one piece experience for me if it werent for their pacing it wouldnt nearly be as long
I'm honestly so surprised to hear that Skypiea is a lot of people's least favorite arc, I think it's so important, heart-felt and not to mention hilarious. It is a fantastic arc, one of my favorites. Thank you for explaining the reason it should never be overlooked. I could never even imagine skipping any arcs.
Same here! My brother warned me, skypiea is an arc that a lot of people don't like.. I honestly watched it with cero knowledge of what was it about and and I loved it!! Plus it has a lot of important information about the story!
@Red_demon-hv7si its ironic the only actually important part of long ring long land is the aokiji introduction at the end, being the build-up to the water 7 saga
Exactly, I can see how the arc could be a little underwhelming story-wise, at the time, but it was just so unique and fun! I never understood why people hated it so much.
I don't understand why people wasn't exited about skypea? When I saw it during it's release time it gave OP so much more depth than being a simple pirate series. It went from a series with a story, to be a series with a mythology
As a tribal faced with the same issue of space and fighting for one's own land and against suppression and discrimination and even mass killing in our history, this arc really hit home for me, able to relate with the tribal struggle. Oda brought out a real struggle in this arc. Also it has so many small details that laid the foundation of many upcoming arcs. Over all a great arc and really enjoyed it.
@@ayaimchen7216hey, bengali here. Watching this arc was very special for me due to the story's focus on indigenous liberation and it reminded me of you guys and many others fight here right away. I hope y'all attain more freedom and safety for your lands and people.
I didn’t understand why people today thought the skypiea arc was controversial. Growing up while watching this arc really made me feel anything was possible and the build up to it was so good.
love both these takes as that is exactly how i, a 21 yr old male (at the time), felt watching on my first watch through of the show. Skyiea took the series, literally, to the sky. 👆🏼
@@devonwalker9342No fr, I finished Skypiea about a month ago now and it still has some my favorites moments in the show so far. I’d even say its what motivated me even more to watch such a long series because of the possibilities it opened up.
It’s probably because the anime pacing was incredibly slow in skypia to an excruciating level. It’s more of a problem with the anime then it is the actual manga
@@PooeyBum11 Whaaaat~, animation taking more time than one would to read, since wheeeen~ (not at you, at anyone who insists they have so much patience to just wait for something to get animated when the source material is _right there_ )
Wyper destroying the giant vine, after finding out about Kalgara's descendendant, and screaming how patient they were, was beautiful storytelling. Everything from there to Luffy ringing the bell was amazing.
This arc sets up water 7 so perfect it’s hard to skip it. From robins connection to straw hats that justifies the whole plot of water 7, to the going merry being so broken it can’t be repaired… bc it feel from the actual sky ! The ghost of the ship was cool too, just rewatched those episodes. It all just comes together like a nice tie
Also being a proof that even objects may carry a soul, if some believe it to have one. The crew believe that the Merry is one of the crew members gives it the soul it needs - and it's importance for the Water 7 arc.
“Inherited Will, The Destiny of the Age, and The Dreams of the People. As long as people continue to pursue the meaning of Freedom, these things will never cease to be!" - Gol D. Roger” His words in the second opening were completely captured by Skypiea. This video has done the same as a synopsis of the arc. Beautifully done.
The fact that Dragon a global terrorist labeled by the World Government agrees with the message Roger has about Ultimate freedom and ultimate will even prior to the most current One Piece Arcs truly shows how perfect of an Arc Skypiea really is.
Yep as long as ppl yearned for freedom it will never stop existing, as the calls of the skypiean people and the dreams of noland and calgara was finally fulfilled after so long the prayers were called.
I love the interaction with the wolf boss, Luffy, & Chopper in the scared forest. They started off as enemies, but drop it right away. The party afterwards was comedy. 🐺 🫂 🌾🎩☠️
22:00 the scene doesn’t end there !!! From Sanji saying they are so childish and jump right after them, Nami calling Robin to join in the excitement and then Robin says something like “going on adventures and just explore … I never thought of it that way” + later the camp fire scene !!!! I love these straw hat moments so much
I didn't much care for Jaya, but when I reached the point where you find the other side of Cricket's house in Skypeia, I immediately had to restart the Jaya arc to see what I missed. I loved that saga, and there's so many little details that pay off later, like how you see each of Blackbeard's crew in small, rather forgettable scenes before they finally organize right when the Straw Hats are leaving the island.
Skypiea even to this day is still an S Tier of true perfection even more so than Wano, Enies Lobby, and Water 7, so I honestly don’t know why people skip Skypiea because it’s truly objectively the superior One Piece Arc out of all of the One Piece Arcs.
@@RoronoaZoro-ur6hr Because it has horrible pacing in both the anime and manga, Side characters miraculously surviving Enels attacks, Awful and uninteresting fights until luffy fights the big bad, The fact shandians have skyfolk wings despite being from the blue sea. Arcs a nice exam piece for One pieces writing and themes but apart from that it’s a bloated and boring mess that people now only care about because of G5
when watching skypeia, Noland's story and the promise Calgara made to him made me cry so much, but the ending tied it all in a neat little ribbon. oda's writing is superb
The Noland/Kalgara friendship and flashback is easily top 10 of the series. One of my favorite pieces that I physically cringe when people say they skip.
I skipped the Nolan/Kalgara part because I got really invested in the Eneru fight but I went back and watched them later on. They're genuinely really solid episodes
Dude Skipiea is literally one of my favourite arcs I'm shocked people skip it. It's like the whole essence of an "Adventure" !????. I loved this video you explained it perfectly, the things I never named myself but definitely felt while watching it.
I didn't skip it and I just started One Piece back in July. Still don't like the Arc though. I see it has come up again in Dresrossa which is where I am right now.
Sanji's "Thanks, I needed a light" in this arc moment cemented him as one of my favorite strawhats! This whole arc is chock full of kickass moments from each one!
Quick thing i wanna add that was foreshadowed (spoilers of course): Haki was foreshadowed by the forest warriors (the weird guardians using observation haki, with a different name). Another important thing is the dials, usoop being able to not only upgrade his slingshot but it also gave good reasons for weather rod (forgor name) to be made that if I am correct.
Skypeia was the moment that I knew I would stay with this story forever. Dreams (Robin was willing to die in Alabasta thinking her dream was over and then she saw the poneglyph in Skypeia so her sacrifice in Water 7 holds even more weight because she had JUST started to accept a life worth living could be hers), inherited will (this even extends to the Merry's spirit), and romanticism, what more do you need? Luffy in the sky is one of my favorite shots. And when he rings that bell 🥹 and you can hear it from the surface.
I read this Arc when i was like 11 and i can vaguely remember that i sobbed quite abit after seeing the panel of the bell ringing and ppl from the below hearing the bell. The Arc was so memorable for me.
Beautiful video. Skypia is a reward for the dreamers! It’s so important!! The idea of an island in the sky, that everyone scorned and laughed at. Luffy and the crew… They never even hesitated, no fear, willing to be beaten and laughed at. They were willing to literally die for it, by placing their belief in the sky and they were rewarded in the end. Thinking about sending your ship to the skies just on the hope and dream of adventure… Sometimes just thinking about Luffy finally ringing that golden bell for the Shandians, Skypians, Cricket and his crew down below, and for Noland and Kalgara’s memories to rest tears me up!! Dreams never die!!
Skypeia is my favorite arc, I wished you touched on the characters a bit more. We see the odds stacked against the crew, no one can stop Enel because of how powerful his Logia Fruit is. Enel was a terrifying and powerful antagonist, regardless we see how self sacrificing Sanji and Zoro are for taking lightning bolts for their friends. As well as Wyver for how willing he was to sacrifice himself in order to fulfill the promise that was made 400 years ago and help send the message to Noland’s descendant that the city of gold was in the sky. The ringing of the bell will always be one of my favorite scenes in one piece because of how much it meant for the Shandians and Noland. It truly is a wonderful Arc and it breaks my heart to know that some people didn’t like Skypeia and told others to skip it despite Skypeia being a very important Arc in my opinion.
I also really like Enel's overall chill VS his _complete lack of chill._ Like the man heads out to see Robin, realizes that she's super interested in history and has a super chill chat with her about it for like five minutes; then he peaces out. Next to that, every attack name he has is just the name of an electric deity + the amount of millions of volts he discharges on people to one-shot them. Then there's the horrifying implication of how little he cares about life. This Shandia girl (forgot her name, unfortunately) has the same Haki he does and she loses her mind like Coby every time people die because she "hears it" inn her head, whereas Enel just doesn't bat an eye and quietly counts them instead. As a child, that got me to realize that he's a sociopath on a completely different level. Like, there's Crocodile's "I'll cause everyone to go to war and then try to bomb 'em all" to Enel's "I can actually hear the dying screams of all the people I force to die in my head and it doesn't bother me." Yet next to that, he gave Nami _multiple_ chances to join him and would've been fine with it even though he knew she was shady. He's so... consistently inconsistent, it's great. XD
It’s literally THE most important arc. It has THE MOST Vindicated Foreshadowing TO THIS DAY compared to literally ANY other One Piece Arc. If you want the list of what it foreshadows I got chu c:
@@Mizikame I want it, if that's okay! Poneglyphs, Haki, the Void Century and Roger's importance come to mind, alongside the strength of people from each sea and the Vinsmoke family. Oh, and Blackbeard. Anything I missed?

And Blackbeard tells Luffy during Impel Down that Luffy has a lottt more Haki than what he first sensed in him back on Jaya/Mock Town (the mini Arc leading up to Skypiea). Here is the list of everything else! :D It Forseshadows: Sun God Nika (already revealed for Manga readers) The Forest God, The Earth God, and The Rain God (to be revealed Advanced Armament Haki (Satori uses it against Luffy, Sanji, and Usopp) Advanced Observation Haki (Enel) Stacking Haki with DF Abilities (Enel’s Omniscience throughout the land of Skypiea) That Shandora is linked to The Ancient Kingdom & Void Century Noland was real as there is a statue of him when he saved Tontatta Land many centuries ago for the Faeries of Dressrosa The Voice Of All Things (Aisa’s Special Lineage Factor giving her Advanced+ Observation Haki and is shown to be used by Momonosuke & Luffy during Zou) The Arc Maxim (being alluded to being similar to The Ancient Weapon Uranus) Probably a few other things I’m missing as well
Skypeia is very important arc since it foreshadowed story arcs and characters in the future and also showed us mantra (but was really Haki), the gold, and they got dials
I'm such a huge Skypeia defender so this video really made me quite happy. I'll never forget how overwhelmed I felt when Luffy rang the bell, it's such a vivid memory of mine when I think back to that initial read through all those years ago. I can't fathom every skipping it.
Oda has been making Skypia more and more important over time. I can see people skipping it early on for the feeling of it not being important but now, it has become extremely important.
"That's what romance is all about!" is one of the best lines ever that just does not get enough credit, this arc is absolutely phenomenal in how it sets-up the grandiose romance that will come later in the new world. I recently rewatched the series and now with enough time we can put pre-time skip arcs into better perspective of the series, this arc is just so important in how it relates to the over-arching story and themes of the series that will be highlighted later-on, it's more a subtle foreshadowing of the entire series while telling you the viewer what a romantic adventure is all about. Ty for the vid it was really well done!
@@Ashgrey0 i 100% believe Skypiea was oda telling us what to expect in terms of romanticism, because of this arc we got Dressrosa, WCI and Wano. Also he is just flexing his world building on us too XD
Kalgara and Noland's story made me so emotional when I first read it. The way the relationship developed, how they helped each other, the fallout, the fucking bell..... Man, I cried. And then Luffy rings the bell and I cried again. .........and then people said that Skypea was trash...............
Skypiea from the first time I watched it has been my favorite arc. I always get shit for it, but I always love the scene where it’s Wiper, Zoro, Gan Fall, and Robin, and Enel says that one of them have to die, and with out hesitation they point at him. Gets me hyped every time.
I adore long ring long island. The humor, zoro being proud of chopper being a man, Robins first time having fun, the FOXY PIRATES, THE AFRO??? Usopp as coach??? In love. I also love skypia because of its perspective making me believe as a viewer that i also rn am at the bonfire
Skypeia is also super important for setting up a lot of the endgame lore about the true nature of Luffy’s Sun God Nika fruit. It’s literally first foreshadowed in this arc.
oh a picture of luffy laughing but his moth and shape of body kinda resembles that warrior dude noooo sorry bud the sun god nika fruit was a writer ass pull which is okay it happens
@@noahpancakes6507 sun god was 1st mentioned in skypeia bro. It was mentioned in the kagara and noland flashback along with 3 other gods: rain, forest, earth. Again when kagara's daughter prepared to be sacrified
If you wanna get technical, it was first forshadowed as a big deal at the very beginning. It was one devil fruit guarded by the marines on a boat transport. Why would Shanks also steal it? It was *one* devil fruit when we know they are actually fairly common. Sure the lore itself was set up in Skypeia, but it's importance was right there at the start and we had no idea.
I love skypiea. I just remember seeing all of the action, worldbuilding, and the flashbacks. I’ve talked to people who have skipped skypiea, and nothing makes sense to them with the “dials” and everything. Don’t skip it, it’s worth the watch. It just occurred to me that if you skip skypiea, you also skip the part where the Merry literally REPIARS ITSELF for the crew, which really makes the whole Water 7 saga even more impactful. People who skip skypiea just miss out, the writing was masterful.
this was the arc that solidified my love for the manga. the sense of wonder and adventure is such a nice refresher after the shonen struggle in alabasta
I’m currently on the Skypiea when I originally watched it on toonami one piece I dropped it when they got to skypiea and the last thing I remember is Usop divining into the shallow cloud water but I’m glad I started watching again after 10yrs of ignoring how great it truly is I wish I didn’t dropped the series
I never understood why Skypiea is such a common arc to skip because it truly is so dang brilliant. I remember being so afraid yet mystified throughout it. And seeing how relevant it was in Wano and kinda just the overall narrative of One Piece, skipping it is a tragedy.
I was really surprised to hear people didn't like skypeia the first time I watched it. It perfectly encompasses the exploration feeling that i loved in early one piece
I really hope you see this, melonteee. You are an amazing content creator for one piece, and while I haven't seen your other videos(mainly due to not being family with their topics) I've rewatched all of your one piece things at least twice. You do such a great job of focusing on characters and plot as opposed to strength, like so many other do. I love one piece so much because at the end of the day the fights are more like musical numbers than fights. There's an adage that in a musical, when emotions get too strong for speaking, they sing, and when they get too strong for singing, they dance. One Piece fights are the exact same. The fights mean something because they are natural course of what happens when emotions reach a fever pitch. Ussop vs Luffy, Vivi vs Luffy, and Sanji vs Luffy being prime examples. Your analysis is always well thought out and well done, and I hope others begin to realize how much of a wonderful addition you are to the One Piece community. Have a fantastic day.
Skypeia is one of my favorites, I remember crying after finding out Calgara and Noland’s story and also crying when Luffy rang the bell revealing that the city of gold had been in the sky all along, it was so heartfelt.

I love the parallel between the mont’ blancs and Whyper/ khalagara. And then luffy is the bridge to conclude their story. LIGHT THE FIRE OF SHANDORA STRAW HAT! My favorite arc when I first watched it and my favorite till this day.
Another great video! No lie, a single tear ran down my cheek as you described the history of the Shandians. This series has broken me, where just remembering an arc makes me feel all the things Oda made me feel when I watched/read it. Thanks and please keep making these :)
For me and my people who have been living under tyrannical colonisation for over five centuries, skypiea holds a special place in our hearts, as well as Fishman Island. It's not a thing I can describe to anyone who hasn't lived as such, but those who have will understand me completely. Thank you for another Exquisite breakdown MelonTee! Keep it up!😍💯
AHHH YOU GET IT!! something about how in skypeia gan fall openly states that (paraphrasing) the shandian's land was not theirs to take was so groundbreaking to me. even such a small throwaway line is just...not something we EVER hear? let alone in 2002?? what's more the shandians we meet in the arc are actual characters, with personalities and lives and motivation. so so much other media doesn't even care enough to do that. it isn't perfect, sure, but damn is it really touching to see !!!
The Kalgara/Noland flashback was the moment that really hooked me into finishing this. Like I was enjoying previous major arcs, but having heard that it doesn’t start getting good until episode 300 had me feeling like it was a trudge. From that point on I was hyped to finish it. I went from taking roughly 6 months to get to Skypiea to getting caught up on the anime 3 months later. Like it was never not on from there.
Skypiea was peak comedy in one piece! The last arc that consistently made me laugh with the goofiness! If you’ve read Wano, you’ll know just how important this arc was. I enjoyed it
This is a great video! I have always tried to explain why Skypeia is not only something you can't skip, but something you must watch and I think you did an amazing job of articulating that.
I love this video, my 2 favorite points that are not mentioned in the video is the beautiful scene of the giant snake finally able to see his people happy again, and the fact that jaya getting flung into the sky basically cripples the shandians, somewhat mirroring real colonization practices like the intentional spreading of diseases
This was incredibly put! Honestly, people slack on Skypiea so much, and it’s extra weird to me because after getting all my friends into One Piece, every single one of them loved Skypiea (some even said that it was their favorite arc, and they wished more arcs were like that). So it was so insane to me to hear people saying it was bad and filler-like.
skypeia is also the first major introduction of haki, and a really interesting exploration of how it's perceived in a society that's seemingly developed it separately to the blue sea understanding of it (hence the different name) which in turn lends credibility to it being something that everyone has intrinsically
It’s actually insane how much forshadowing is in Skypiea. Its like a microcosm of the One Piece world. There is so much symbolism in this arc I loved it so much more on rewatch Post Wano manga Spoilers: Skypiea is more important than ever with the current arc Egghead island. It was directly compared to Skypiea and it’s another fantasy island that’s said to be hundreds years into the future because of how advanced it is. especially with the explanation about devil fruits being dreams. In Wano, Kaido introduced the idea that dreams (devil fruits) aren’t enough to conquer the sea, it also takes great willpower (haki). And with the Vegapunks it seems as if Oda is going to take a look into the dark side of desires, which correlates with dreams.

He says something along the lines of “Wow Strawhat! I didn’t know your Haki had grown soo much from when I first sensed you had a little Haki back on Jaya!”
I could never explain why I thought Skypeia was my favorite arc bc I just could never explain how intricate and connected all the stories and lives of everyone involved Oda makes it. Thank you for doing it for me🙏.
I loved Skypiea just for Oda flexing his imagination and world building, giving us another great Straw Hats adventure. Not every arc has to be significant in some grand way, and that is why I love One Piece.
But this is LITERALLY THE MOST Significant One Piece Arc STILL to this day It foreshadows everything for the most significant aspects of Post Time Skip happenings. If you want a Vindicated Foreshadow list I got chu c:
@@air-kon Yes as well as the giant list below: It Forseshadows: Sun God Nika (already revealed for Manga readers) The Forest God, The Earth God, and The Rain God (to be revealed Advanced Armament Haki (Satori uses it against Luffy, Sanji, and Usopp) Advanced Observation Haki (Enel) Stacking Haki with DF Abilities (Enel’s Omniscience throughout the land of Skypiea) That Shandora is linked to The Ancient Kingdom & Void Century Noland was real as there is a statue of him when he saved Tontatta Land many centuries ago for the Faeries of Dressrosa The Voice Of All Things (Aisa’s Special Lineage Factor giving her Advanced+ Observation Haki and is shown to be used by Momonosuke & Luffy during Zou) The Arc Maxim (being alluded to being similar to The Ancient Weapon Uranus) Probably a few other things I’m missing as well
this is such a beautifully written video on one of my favorite one piece arcs! skypiea deserves so much love, as much love as Oda had put into writing it much love from all of your fans! keep up the great vids ❤️❤️❤️
I've just started watching this vid, and must say that I absolutely love Skypiea, but it's mostly due to Kalgara and Monblan's story. They are both just incredible characters and pure soulmates. I have even read a fan poem about Monbland in russian! It was absolutely stunning!
adding after finishing the video: I absolutely agree with the statement that Skypeia is charachter-development arc. The crew dancing around the campfire always fills my heart with warm. Robin's smile in that moment felt geniune and not cold for the first time. And I love that scene when Zoro catches and gingerly helds Robin, although he was the most suspicious when she joined.
When I read Skypiea when I was young, there's something about it that didn't grasp me so I'm probably one of those people who don't really have anything good to say about Skypiea since I don't remember a lot of fond things from it growing up. Maybe now that I'm older, I can reread it again and fully appreciate all the character and lores. Thank you for making this video for giving me that push!
I skipped Skypiea when I was younger. Not because I wanted to, but because I was young and it fell on the transition between 4Kids corrupted Dub to the one we have today. I can say, when I went back and rewatched it, my smile and my tears were so pure throughout. Even without information we have now about Roger’s journey and more, I tell anyone watching the series… don’t skip this arc, because this arc is the heart of the series, which intensifies the emotions of the arcs that follow.
Ah, Skypiea. A story of a man on an execution stand, his final words being inherited by those searching for a treasure beyond imagination. A story of a country high in the sky above all others, the rulers calling themselves gods and enslaving those they see as beneath them. A story of a people who would not kneel, their home lost, their history all but myth. A story of an ancient massive animal, remembering the times before. A story of judgement striking down from the heavens, destroying any and all who will not submit. A story of a man claiming to be a god, struck down by his natural enemy. A story of music signalling liberation, and that this tyranny will one day end. Hold on a minute...
its so upsetting to me to discover how people feel about skypeia, genuinely its one of my favorite arcs so far (im in dressrosa rn). im so in love with the lore of the place alone
I love your videos so much. Truly the perfect blend of love for the series, narrative thoughtfulness, editing prowess and juicy memes. Can't wait for the video on the best filler arc, G8.
The absolute hype buildup to a cloud city in the sky with the solid clouds which became Nami's main armament to this day and the knockup stream to get there, the bird and klaubautermann made me feel like I was on an actual adventure every episode. Also BON VOYAGE that opening slaps so fucking hard every time I saw the flashbacks of the crew I was tearing up. I love Skypiea so much! Oh and Skypiea is fucking hilarious. In general old One Piece episodes always make me lol.
That ride up the knock up steam first time around... before I knew anything, before my imagination had even begun to grasp what was going on... Nami and Ussop freaking out as a Seaking was swept by on the current... Luffy's sense of anticipation which was so relatable in the moment, I can still feel the adventure in my loins to this day hehehe... Queue the original OP!... Fuck Yes! God that was great! And then Oda brings everything full circle with the ringing of the bell, brings it all back to Cricket and the themes he represents, the central tenants of the entire epic... just freakin brilliant! Thats what romanticism's all about folks!
Skypes is definitely underrated, not only does it carry the themes that make One Piece so attractive, but there’s been so many theories about how the arc is the entire manga in short version, somewhat of a parallel for the whole series. Love the content, keep it up!
i love skypiea so much i don’t understand how theres people out there who skipped it 😭 noland and calgara’s story literally made me cry ugly tears and luffy vs one piece eminem is one of my favorite fights in the series 🫶
This is the arc that really made me see One Piece for its own beautiful thing. It's also for me the most memorable arc that I look back at when people ask me why I watched all of One Piece
This arc is one of the things in One Piece that solidified it as a masterpiece when I marathoned the entire manga until I was caught up in March of 2022. The ideas in this arc brought me to tears just like the climaxes of the other arcs, but in a way that touched me far more deeply. Thanks for making this video!
Great analysis! I am surprised that some of the fans are skipping the arc, in terms of relationships within the straw hats it’s incredible! Also there are interesting tiny teams inside this arc, like Sanji, Luffy and Usopp, with Luffy epic impressions (later his top music performances). Chopper who’s proving himself to be a brave pirat and his little bonding moments with Zoro. Amazing!
Wow. This was such a treat! I loved your analysis on the nolan/calgara flashback. I sometimes forget how great it was. It hit so emotionally in the best way
What a FANTASTIC analysis, such a shame that I watched this arc when I was a kid and couldn't comprehend the depths of what it represented. Thank you for this video. I hope that the one piece fan base watch this and other videos that you create about it and understand the real message behind these arcs, because I feel that most of the fan base really just scratch the surface of what this adventure means
Nah bro, because when the giant snake got up and rammed into the bean stalk while thinking of Calgara and Noland, you could not bring me back from the brink of tears while watching that
I've been saying this for 6 whole years. I own every single volume for Skypiea, and I will get bullied, but Skypiea is my favourite arc!! Also, the best moment in Skypiea is when Sanji is fighting the priest of balls, and as he is delivering the final blow, he says, " It's time to tenderize the meat 🍖" And, of course, the best flashback ever is Noland and Kalgara. I shed a tear at this backstory, laughed at this backstory, and I felt every single emotion what amazing characters and an amazing arc.
Skypiea is the arc that made me love the storytelling and adventure of one piece after trying multiple times to watch it and I’m so happy I managed to finally get to it
I don't think you mentioned this but Skypiea is also the first time we get the first of many mentions of the Sun God. This obviously goes on to be so much more important later in the story.
As a historian, Skypeia had ALWAYS been my favorite arc. It encapsulates why i love history in the first place. It tells the story of the enduring human spirit and gives so much god damn hope. But even outside of my love for history, Skypeia is honestly such a core example of the heart of One Piece. The fact that even in the sky thousands of miles above the rest of the world, there are universal experiences is so compelling and it just shows what the heart of the series is about. The whole theme of it is dreaming and to never stop because it can always happen. Its even greater when skypeia gets references so much later on. It shows that this world is bigger than you think but also so small at the same time. Just grahhhhhhhhh its so genuinely one of my favorite arcs.
Thanks for going over. I watched it and watched it again, trying to find what isn't skippable about Skypiea, while also being current on the series. This video was worth the review.
I cried so much on this arc. I didn’t get the ending on how the two kinds of people just decided that they’re cool with each other after one group were fighting and dying each day just to get their home back and the other group not caring or understanding their struggle. But other than that I like sky island arc it was good 😊
The saddest thing about skipping Skypeia is that it's one of the funniest arcs, at least in the Anime, some of the moments that have made me laugh the hardest are in this arc, everyone should hear Luffy's Island Weather song and watch Zoro unintentionally bully a South Bird
And his Tarzan impression lol
How did yall forget "Gomu Gomu no Airhead"?
South birds always having to look south if they like it or not are the nemesis of Zoro directional skills jdjwj
Bro you forgot Usopp's majestic flip...nose first into the side of the Merry. One of my favorite moments with "Usopp Spell"
I smell copium
@@mr.lafitte336 Nope I just really like Skypiea lmao
@@Acetag31I disagree with with literally _every single one_ of your criticisms here... you might me by evil doppleganger.
Also the gold they get in Skypea is the reason Ussop gets mugged in Water 7
Probably because many people hate usopp for that part of the arc
Skypiea is the reason why they need to go to Water 7 in the first place - no normal ships can withstand the stress of going up and down a Sky Island and Going Merry is a very normal ship. We know for a fact that Going Merry won't last long in Grand Line, and the Skypiea adventure is the final nail in her coffin.
Enel and the characters of Skypiea might have not show up anymore, but everything else about Skypiea is crucial for the overarching plot of One Piece. To skip it is just wrong imho.
@@kazanyemmipeople who hate Usopp aren’t people you should listen to
& the damage it sustains is NOT brushed over, making it feels logical & reasonable that the merry is dying as opposed to coming out of nowhere

Same here! My brother warned me, skypiea is an arc that a lot of people don't like.. I honestly watched it with cero knowledge of what was it about and and I loved it!! Plus it has a lot of important information about the story!
I skipped long ring long land arc because i watched for a little bit, I didn't like it.
Not to mention that it has nothing to do with the story
@Red_demon-hv7si its ironic the only actually important part of long ring long land is the aokiji introduction at the end, being the build-up to the water 7 saga

Exactly, I can see how the arc could be a little underwhelming story-wise, at the time, but it was just so unique and fun! I never understood why people hated it so much.
I don't understand why people wasn't exited about skypea?
When I saw it during it's release time it gave OP so much more depth than being a simple pirate series.

I didn’t understand why people today thought the skypiea arc was controversial. Growing up while watching this arc really made me feel anything was possible and the build up to it was so good.
To me it proved more so than ever, that the series can go in many different directions, proving it to be a great adventure.

Late response, but it’s called the Climatact.
But the real Gs call it the Weather Forcer 😉
im pretty sure blackbeard or someone actually mentioned haki by name in jaya but in the english manga it was translated to something else

Thinking about sending your ship to the skies just on the hope and dream of adventure…
Sometimes just thinking about Luffy finally ringing that golden bell for the Shandians, Skypians, Cricket and his crew down below, and for Noland and Kalgara’s memories to rest tears me up!!
Like, there's Crocodile's "I'll cause everyone to go to war and then try to bomb 'em all" to Enel's "I can actually hear the dying screams of all the people I force to die in my head and it doesn't bother me."
Yet next to that, he gave Nami _multiple_ chances to join him and would've been fine with it even though he knew she was shady. He's so... consistently inconsistent, it's great. XD

THIS! One piece is heavily romanticized and this line shows us that it intends to stay that way
@@Ashgrey0 i 100% believe Skypiea was oda telling us what to expect in terms of romanticism, because of this arc we got Dressrosa, WCI and Wano.
It’s literally first foreshadowed in this arc.
no its not lmao
oh a picture of luffy laughing but his moth and shape of body kinda resembles that warrior dude noooo sorry bud the sun god nika fruit was a writer ass pull which is okay it happens
@@noahpancakes6507 the shadow he made on the clouds when he jumped
I love the Skypiea Saga, but watching this video reinvigorated my love of these two arcs, making me appreciate them even more.
It is 3am on a school night and this is what I'm doing. Very much worth it! Especially because I just finished rereading Skypiea earlier today
SAME
I know this vid is good, but, as a fellow student, here's a tip: get enough sleep otherwise you'll be miserable in school.
What were you doing before the video to get to 03?
I’m currently on the Skypiea when I originally watched it on toonami one piece I dropped it when they got to skypiea and the last thing I remember is Usop divining into the shallow cloud water but I’m glad I started watching again after 10yrs of ignoring how great it truly is I wish I didn’t dropped the series
I never understood why Skypiea is such a common arc to skip because it truly is so dang brilliant. I remember being so afraid yet mystified throughout it. And seeing how relevant it was in Wano and kinda just the overall narrative of One Piece, skipping it is a tragedy.
I dont get why u would skip any art? Like are you in a hurry or what
who tf is skipping skypiea in one piece
I mean sure some arcs you may not get super hyped about for sure no one skips 40 episdoes of cannon
It's even vital to the newest game
@@kingdomtrue7008 so?
Skypeia is one of my favorites, I remember crying after finding out Calgara and Noland’s story and also crying when Luffy rang the bell revealing that the city of gold had been in the sky all along, it was so heartfelt.
theres so much important stuff happening or set up in skypiea, you CANNOT skip that oh my lord why would anyone 😭😭 a little list of important things introduced or set up in jaya/skypiea, that dont even have to do with the actual plot of it which is wonderful in itself: (spoilers if youre not caught up!)
✔blackbeard and his crew (literally the main big bad of the whole series probably??)
✔the theme of peoples dreams and the wrongness of the "new era" where pirates stop dreaming
✔mentioning and seeing kuma and doflamingo for the first time hello!!!
✔the merry taking unusual amounts of damage, leading to the conflict in water seven
✔merry literally having a SOUL that can become PHYSICAL like hello is that not important
✔gold roger having been to skypiea and being able to write in the poneglyph- language (👀)
✔actual foreshadowing about luffy being the actual fucking sun god ahaha not important or anything tho
✔ enel goes to the fucking moon lmao, no way that wont come back into the story somehow
also just the ending with them ringing the bell and cricket being able to hear it, and seeing luffys giant shadow on the clouds - that alone makes the arc worth it. its so incredibly poetic and romantic and filled with meaning!!!!!!
Plus if we're being honest, the shandians have a huge connection with the void century and the old kingdom that will almost definitely be reintroduced
I prefer skypiea over alabasta

Satori does NOT have ANY Impact Dials under his gloves and Satori uses Advanced Armament Haki THREE separate times BACK TO BACK against Luffy, then Sanji, then Usopp, as shown here through this clip of that happening:

oh my god thank you for making this video, i get so angry when i see so many people hating on skypiea!!! It's one of my favorites!!!!!!! also u made me cry >:l
I not one who usually watches commentary videos, but the videos this woman make are so funny and entertaining yet they dont lose the weight or significance of the message they want to tell, even if i personally think something is missing or dont agree i always have a good time, her ability to talk about those stories through videos is truly a treasure, that even made me cry while watching.Great video!
One of my fav arcs, probs my most rewatched actually.
Keep it up!😍💯
AHHH YOU GET IT!! something about how in skypeia gan fall openly states that (paraphrasing) the shandian's land was not theirs to take was so groundbreaking to me. even such a small throwaway line is just...not something we EVER hear? let alone in 2002??
what's more the shandians we meet in the arc are actual characters, with personalities and lives and motivation. so so much other media doesn't even care enough to do that. it isn't perfect, sure, but damn is it really touching to see !!!
where are you from?
Where??l?
My eyes get teary just remembering the flashback
There is so much symbolism in this arc I loved it so much more on rewatch
Post Wano manga Spoilers:
Skypiea is more important than ever with the current arc Egghead island.

And reading that scene in colour was PHENOMENALLY AMAZING!!! 🌟
“In times like these.. What can we do but only Pray to God???”
And then ALLLL of the Skypieans & Shandorans are clasped hands, closed eyes, praying to God… While Luffy clears Enel x Arc Maxim’s “Deathpiea” Attack and the Sun Shines Brightly above them all and Luffy while The Light of Shandora finally rings after 400 Years 😭✨
@@Mizikame you’ve been following the series way longer than me lmao that’s amazing. Yeah that scene was actually beautiful. I’m definitely going to have to read the series in manga coloring I prefer it so much more to anime colors. Another scene that is probably top 5 for me is Jaya when Blackbeard gives his speech to Luffy at mock town. Even when I stopped and left the series at Skypiea for around a year before returning that scene has always stuck with me

I have a LOT of One Piece Dubbed Clips on mai YT Channel I adore the Funimation Dub; almost everyone shits on Luffy’s English VA but likes everyone elses’ VAs. Like Zoro has the same English VA as Vegeta; Christopher Sabot. And Brook’s English VA is also the VA for Whis from DBS C: I personally love Luffy’s Dubbed voice but I’ve also watched all current 938 Dubbed Episodes so it grows on you when you start from Episode 1 and not just watching 1min YT Clips of his English VA 😹 lol.
Anyways yesssss I most DEFINITELY suggest reading the coloured manga when you get a chance c: I agree the colourization of the manga panels are typically way better than what the anime does but they are still images vs. moving images so I can understand why that is.
Ohhhh yeaaaaaa Blackbeard’s Neverending Dreams Speech STILL sticks with me to this day as well!
And Luffy had Haki in Jaya; Blackbeard comments as such when they meet again during Impel Down.
Not every arc has to be significant in some grand way, and that is why I love One Piece.

this is such a beautifully written video on one of my favorite one piece arcs! skypiea deserves so much love, as much love as Oda had put into writing it
much love from all of your fans! keep up the great vids ❤️❤️❤️
Why do your reviews always leave me in tears! ❤️ this show is something else. Something special.
This analysis legitimately made me tear up it was phenomenal
When I read Skypiea when I was young, there's something about it that didn't grasp me so I'm probably one of those people who don't really have anything good to say about Skypiea since I don't remember a lot of fond things from it growing up. Maybe now that I'm older, I can reread it again and fully appreciate all the character and lores. Thank you for making this video for giving me that push!
its legit my fav arc that i rewatched multiple times
I skipped Skypiea when I was younger. Not because I wanted to, but because I was young and it fell on the transition between 4Kids corrupted Dub to the one we have today. I can say, when I went back and rewatched it, my smile and my tears were so pure throughout. Even without information we have now about Roger’s journey and more, I tell anyone watching the series… don’t skip this arc, because this arc is the heart of the series, which intensifies the emotions of the arcs that follow.
Skypea to date is my favorite story arc in one piece. It captured everything i wanted in an adventure story perfectly.
Something about this sounds familiar.
its so upsetting to me to discover how people feel about skypeia, genuinely its one of my favorite arcs so far (im in dressrosa rn). im so in love with the lore of the place alone
Love the content, keep it up!
i love skypiea so much i don’t understand how theres people out there who skipped it 😭 noland and calgara’s story literally made me cry ugly tears and luffy vs one piece eminem is one of my favorite fights in the series 🫶
enelminem is one of my favourite one piece antagonists 😂
😂😂😂😂😂 Eminem
This is the arc that really made me see One Piece for its own beautiful thing. It's also for me the most memorable arc that I look back at when people ask me why I watched all of One Piece
This arc is one of the things in One Piece that solidified it as a masterpiece when I marathoned the entire manga until I was caught up in March of 2022. The ideas in this arc brought me to tears just like the climaxes of the other arcs, but in a way that touched me far more deeply. Thanks for making this video!
i love the fact that theyre fighting over something as petty as LITERAL DIRT (vearth)
skypiea best arc
Well they are fighting over land. We've been fighting over that since the dawn of man.
This is also the arc where Usopp sees the spirit and will of the Going Merry.
Nah bro, because when the giant snake got up and rammed into the bean stalk while thinking of Calgara and Noland, you could not bring me back from the brink of tears while watching that
Its nice to see some defence of my second favorite arc (Thriller Bark will always be my number 1).
skypiea has always been one of my favorite arcs since I first read the manga, I loved that fun adventure in the clouds
I've been saying this for 6 whole years. I own every single volume for Skypiea, and I will get bullied, but Skypiea is my favourite arc!!
Also, the best moment in Skypiea is when Sanji is fighting the priest of balls, and as he is delivering the final blow, he says, " It's time to tenderize the meat 🍖"
And, of course, the best flashback ever is Noland and Kalgara. I shed a tear at this backstory, laughed at this backstory, and I felt every single emotion what amazing characters and an amazing arc.
"priest of balls" LOL
(It just sounds weird)
Skypiea and long long Island are some of my favorite arcs, right behind water 7/ennies lobby
Chopper blowing the whistle makes skypeia unskippable on its own
Skypiea is the arc that made me love the storytelling and adventure of one piece after trying multiple times to watch it and I’m so happy I managed to finally get to it
I don't think you mentioned this but Skypiea is also the first time we get the first of many mentions of the Sun God. This obviously goes on to be so much more important later in the story.
She didn't say it because it would be spoiler. As that part has not yet been animated
Not mentioned but Skypiea was also the first arc to show haki
Thanks for going over. I watched it and watched it again, trying to find what isn't skippable about Skypiea, while also being current on the series. This video was worth the review.
I cried so much on this arc. I didn’t get the ending on how the two kinds of people just decided that they’re cool with each other after one group were fighting and dying each day just to get their home back and the other group not caring or understanding their struggle. But other than that I like sky island arc it was good 😊
