Discovered this fantastic musician 6 months ago thanks to some random twist of fate from Spotify. Cannot stop listening to him… amazing.. all the best from Bonnie Scotland 🤛🏻
this guy is one of the greatest living songwriters, he deserves much more respect than he gets!
So freaking true!
An absolute master and American treasure.
James is certainly a Musician`s Musician! Hope it never gets mainstream!
Poet and player!
I saw James last night in Houston TX
What a great show! He's a amazing song writer.
Keep on rockin James!!
I heard him for the first time on Outlaw county radio during that god awful recession. " Can't make it here anymore " rang true for me for sure. Love his music, so true to the times, and real people music. He's on my bucket list for sure.
.
Donna Scheunemann he should be, he is finer than fine, plus now a new fine music
#MeToo
😎
I have that shirt. Now, if only I had that talent.
He's absolutely fantastic!!! I like him as much as Bob Dylan, Lou Reed or Neil Young. Same Level! Greetings from Germany.
Lights of Cheyenne is a MUST listen!! Great show!
Just seen him at the 20th Century in Cincinnati. It was a great show! He is way under rated as a songwriter. Definitely, an American bad ass treasure.
It was a beautiful day. With a great soundtrack. Come again James. They played on a back porch!
Love youlove you love you lovelove you. ---from Wisconsin and Austin.. Words--- all better than good.
Great concert James tells it like it is..
God bless him!
Dang them folks got themselves a dollop of awesomeness
His guitar always has THE best sound to it. Killer setup.
Paul Reed Smith and Fender guitars ... great start to a good sound
Cool, JMc playing a prs!
The issue with this Great Concert is it isn`t LOUD ENOUGH !!!!
James McMurtry is a musical genius.
Comes from decent stock.
Had to investigate whether this dude was even real nor not after him being referred to in some detective paperback I read in jail last summer. Turned out he us. Little late to the game but mcmurtry has made my life better
I don’t know of ANYONE who writes lyrics with such power. “Yes I’m drunk, but damn you’re ugly!’ Red Dress.
You know how it is. When someone dies, they become famous. But, i pass it on. I love his honesty. Saw him, talked to him, fucking great guy. Great talent. He nneeds marketed.
James, love the fact that you'll play for a small crowd. Come on down to the Low Country....Folly Beach, S.C. , the whole damn Island will show up!!!!
If you’re ever in Austin on a Tuesday night, check out his acoustic show at the gallery continental club. It’s incredible. It’s just him, his songs and an acoustic guitar!
Is this still happening?

James McMurtry is one of the very best singer songwriters working today. I live in OKC & if he's playing anywhere between Tulsa & Dallas we're there. He never disappoints in concert. He rolls into these looooong electric grooves that just leave you absolutely mesmerized. You just get a taste of it here but when you're in a room with him & his band for a couple of hours & those searing riffs from that butterscoth Fender Telecaster are washing over you, you'll know what I mean. He's really become a helluva guitarist in the 10 years or so I've been listening. The 1st thing I heard was an album called "Live in Aught-Three". It was a collection of some of his best stuff released up until that time. I'd suggest any newbies start with that. It's fantastic. "Childish Things" & "Just Us Kids" followed. Both are great. He just released another album you can buy off his site. Support this guy, he deserves it!!!
Don't believe thats a strat. Looks more like a PSR. Bill Martin from Good Charlotte plays one
Russell Wakefield Ahh . Theres the strat
Truer words were never spoken. James is one of the best!
He is playing today in Houston, two shows. Cactus Music, free at 3 pm and at Continental Club at 9 pm.
rick pauley He's alright.
Wow, nice. Just good music indeed.
Thanks for posting this. James Mcmurtry is awesome live! Listening to this got me through the last part of the day.... How cool.
I was listenin to OUTLAW channel oneday and heard "We Cant Make It Here Anymore. Been a fan ever since.
2020......still a huge fan
He is playing today in Houston, two shows. Cactus Music, free at 3 pm and at Continental Club at 9 pm.
Great Show, should've been packed...
One of the best wordsmiths and musical story tellers around. What a road dog.
I picked up on this dude courtesy of a Stephen King novel (the dome). That was back in the day as James was not released in Australia and I had to get an import CD. I turned all my friends on to his stuff, and we now have a bit of a fan club in Margaret River Western Australia. We love you James! It might be a small town, but if you turn up, there is no way we are rolling up the sidewalk till you leave! 🙏👍
Certified Bad Ass.
Really happy to find this. I heard him play the new song at around 00:59:00 in Milwaukee in 2012, shortly after he wrote it. It really stuck with me then, and I'm glad to finally find a recording! (James, I hope this is going on the new record!)
Texas boy. If you ever see his name on a play bill, go see him. Best artist of my time. Stevie Ray Vaughan would be proud of him.
Had no idea this was here. Thank you for posting! I've been a fan for over 30 years? I don't remember really but it's been a long time. This is the best live recording of "The Lights Of Cheyenne" that I've ever seen. He's a living legend here in Texas. A poet in the same class as Guy Clark.
Thanks Bill Shapiro for makin' me a McMurtry fan
Got lucky, Saw James and Band at Cactus Music in Houston Tx. Awhile back...
one of the best by one of the best
Thank you for posting this! Excellent quality! Best quality of How am I gonna find you now on youtube!
Just saw James at Bristol rhythm & roots. Really rocked the place.
Helluva concert.
I sooo miss his live shows! His bi-weekly youtube/fb gives me a fix, but he is so much more animated with a live audience! Thanks for posting!
ditto for Ocracoke Island, NC - the entire island will show.
I love Ocracoke Island! Honeymooned there, camping just off the beach in '85. It was a dream!!! To see this guy, there?! Yummy!
What a great story teller for America.
Brilliant post...He's in Belfast in Jan..Tickets bought..

Thx for posting! I've seen James many, many times. The song at 11:10 is from his upcoming fall 2014 album "complicated GAME," with C.C. Adcock producing.
By the way "Cornbread" is Michael Traylor. Ronnie was his prior bass player.
What happened to Ronnie? He was a great backup singer.
Amazing post thanks for sharing
Brilliant performance
Little known but largely LOVED
uh... f yeah
James is great to see in concert..... I saw him last November and will go again when he gets within driving distance! His CD's are great to buy folks too! (Not a relative but just a big fan! ) :-) He rocks the house and his songs shares my views and philosophy of politics.
This is fantastic! Thanks for the upload!
Wow this must have been a great show for the 13 people that showed up.
Fantastic!
Thanks for posting. Great band:)
Discovered this cat several years back. Through a great song called, Out Here in thee Middle. Found out he’d been making great music for a while. He may have come up around Louisville just once that I know of. Over the years that I’m aware of. And, it was a smaller venue. Then I would like to see him in. I’m outside Louisville, so maybe I missed him. I haven’t listen to local radio in quite some time either. My favorite song by McMurtry could probably be just about anything from the Childish Things album. Charlemagne’s Hometown maybe? Or, l from another album, Airline Agent. He one great Texan songwriter.
James Mcmurtry leelanau Mi July 2013
yea
hey, come up to essex, ontario please
I legit thought I was listening to Ray Wylie Hubbard this whole time. Great toons man
damn that James
he's still pretty spry
See Him at The IronWood In Calgary Next week.
Didn't especially really love these versions that I'm responding to. as he's just Jamming.
Absolutely Love this Musician.
As good as Dylan all over and better for me.
You have to come to the UK.....
Awesome thanks for posting!
I love your music even tho I hate hunting
The Bob Dylan of the 21st century
interesting to see that he already played "How'm I gonna find you now" back in 2013, even though he just released the song this year on the "Complicated Game" album
+David Senoner a few of the song's in this performance are from the Complicated Game album.....still gotta love it!!
Uh oh- you know you’re gettin’ lots of negative feedback on this tune. I LOVE IT
kicks some but!
😎
Honey, don’t yell at me when I cleaning my gun...
Just Us Kids 😁😁😁
OMG why is nobody THERE???
Initially it starts feeling kind of repetitive... and then as it proceeds you can't stop listening...
Definitely grows on ya!!!!!
Wow! Is Portland Oregon on your schedule?????
He made a deal at a crossroads. It's all in the hair and the goatee. And the hat. Without those this would all sound like Barry Manilow.
Maybe check your hearing
first thought: Ray Wylie Hubbard. I like.
Nice shirt (Cuban Guyabera)!
Just so you all know, Cornbread and Ronnie Johnson are not the same person. Ronnie Johnson left the band back in 2011.
Thank You. I was wondering about that.
Does anyone know who the lead player is? That guy is sick! Perfect for James!!
Lead Guitarist & Squeezebox player is Tim Holt, Bass Player is Mike 'Cornbread' Taylor. Not Ronnie Johnson who left the band in 2011
The man of a thousand faces... every one the same.
😊👍🚬
Eighteen people must have got stuck on the back porch.
Hippies rock but my Husky rules!
pals. cornbread, crawfish, bison n bannock
what is this some kind of "EUTOPIA?" hehehe his bassist isn't looking to healthy by the end of this show...lol love James Mcmurtry absolutely real life music!!!
One of the things I like about McMurtry is that with only three musicians and his vocal it all works out perfect . I caught him in Seattle about 4-5 months ago., he didn't sound this good whoever was running the sound board had the bass guitar turned up way too far and the vocals were weak, this will not stop me from going to see him next time he's in town.
Lucky you!
You thought that we knew better by now. Guess not
Ah summer, i live in the cold north western minnesota climate, Shure could love me some warm climate change about now 30 sum below burrr
Are those songs real or did you make them up?
Viet Nam vet at the side of the road...
33:42
Hey...Cornbread is NOT Ronnie Johnson....I don't know his real name. Thanks for the post!

Whe is James back in Salt Lake or Snowbasin?
That's Cornbread NOT Ronnie on BASS
