Good luck tackling Derek Henry full speed what a joke 😂
Suddenly everything becomes clear...
😂 yea. You can tell when people are for this rule have never tried to tackle someone before. Especially someone as bigger. Even players offense and defense are not for this rule
@jeremyadams1439 People tryna argue if you let Henry truck you then you shouldn't be in the league in support of this rule.
Give me more than 4-5 examples of hip drop tackles from last years entire tape and I will totally agree with you…
Gives the official more power to fix a game on a subjective call
Football without defense is not a football..
Lies
Football the sport isn’t just a football, correct 😉
I suppose defensive players will just have to resort to the testicle elevation tackle.
defenses performing better had the nfl thinking "how can we stop this?"
Exactly there like how can we get Travis kelece to score more touchdowns so we can cut to Taylor Swift and get more views 🙄
Over/Under 5.5 years until flag football is implemented?
Over. It takes 10 years for the moronic masses to catch on to corporate greed. Maybe 20 considering how dumb millenials and gen z are.
Over but I see it coming
I see my comment got deleted.
RUclips censorship is getting wild.
You can't even call Gen Z dumb.
@@1stAmendmentorDie1776but the are extremely dumb
It’s an Olympic sport. The NFL has peaked, and will severely decline
Ban artificial turfs instead.. not this.
Great, can’t wait to have the referees handing away games because a tackle was mistaken for a hip drop tackle.
Also, let’s talk about quarterbacks getting sacked now: you cannot aim for the head, neck, hip, or legs. You get like 20% of their body that is now legal to tackle without running the risk of drawing a flag, correct or not
And if you hit in that 20% but land too hard its 15 yards.
The refs will pick and choose when to throw the flag based on what's needed. Are the paying customers getting bored and annoyed ? Throw the flag then, they'll start cheering
@@onetime3137 sounds like a chiefs fan problem
Nobody wants to watch football anymore. This is super bad for the sport.
@@beng7844 sounds like an nfl fan problem.
Sacks will be reversed because a defensive player tackled the QB from behind and went limp to drag him down
Don’t think you can just equate rugby tackling with football. The ball carrier in rugby isn’t wearing pads or a helmet. They don’t run as violently or lower their heads into contact like ball carriers in football do.
Huh?!
I watch rugby and aussie rules and all the ball carrier does is lower his head. They literally get their ears ripped and cauliflower because of it.
The NBA got rid of defense 15 years ago.
It took 15 years for their fans to get sick of the outrageous scoring. Ratings are historically low for the NBA.
The NFL will be the nba in 20 years.
That's cause China bought it.
You guys are such jokes, Sam’s “distinction” at around five minutes between hip drop and “Seattle” tackle technique is laughable and completely ignores the fact that the ball carrier is moving forward and not a willing participant.
Everyone is falling for the "player safety" smokescreen. Just like the NFL wants you too. This is about raising the points totals in games. The scoring has been getting lower and lower over the past 5 years which affects viewership numbers. These kinds of rules that limit the defenses ability to stop the offense are strategic. The harder it is to stop the offense the more the offense scores. Simple. I'm the first person to say this anywhere on the internet!!!!!!!
It will definitely increase defensive player injuries too. Having to tackle head up every play is painful. There's no Shoulder or Shocker that could handle that.
So I dove into the numbers and over the past three seasons there are hundreds more penalties called on offense than defense; which implies against the NFL attacking the defense idea right? Wrong! I dove further to see that the average penalty yardage per play were between 9.25-10.25 for defense and between 7.25-7.5 for offense. In a game of inches this is a HUGE difference and swings more to the benefit of the offense. In 2023 all offenses combined for 1,609 penalties for 11,785 yards and all Defenses had 1,234 for 11,639 yards. Thats hundreds more penalties for a difference of about 150 yards.
Basically the data shows that offenses can commit way more penalties while defenses need to play basically perfect on order to keep up. The game aint balanced and thats the way the NFL likes it!
Did you count false starts? Non contact penalty.
The nba did this in 2005. Took 20 years but the biggest complaint about the nba is no defense.
Might as well play flag football
It’s an Olympic sport now. Most morons will still watch.
Suggest removing face masks and then just add flags for the players to pull. 🏈
I am pro making the sport safer when ot comes to head hit and head injuries. But this is just something I can not agree on. Football is a contact sport. When you sign up to play it, you sign up to get hurt. Maybe we should look into teaching offensive players about how to take tackles correctly.
People keep asking how are you going to get a guy from behind just take him out for a drink first 😂
This takes me back when Vontaze Burfict tackled Leveon Bell and started celebrating as soon as he realized he injured him.
9:22 ridiculous might as well say “oh it’s easy to tackle just let the ball carrier fall forward 3 or 4 yards ITS NO DIFFERENT”
I have enough martial arts background to understand a basic takedown where you engage squarely, then grab a leg and apply pressure and it's a takedown. Physics say "you go down", and it's a totally safe thing to perform. What I don't understand is in football where you are running laterally at full speed and someone is trying to wrap their arms around you, how you expect a defender to engage without ever being pulled behind the runner. Like, are we saying only square on hits are legal now? Or laterally grabs are ok, but you can't get dragged, you have to make the tackle firm-footed or let go? I have no idea how this is going to look
can you guys stop watching football now? make them pay for screwing it up
F the nfl
How does pro hockey get exempted from all this “change toward more safety in professional sports”?
Because they are the lowest watched sports league in america. They cant afford to ruin the game any further.

Its crazy that you guys but that crap.
People forget that these guys are paid millions and millions to play a game and they are protected as if they are going extinct. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
It's possible to tackle without this "technique" - provided you're bigger/stronger than the other player, or the runner for some reason doesn't fight for extra yardage, or potentially if you're not stronger but you are in an optimal tackling position. Basically, this rule only works if the officials don't follow the rule - and instead only call it in extreme situations.
no video showing an example,..WTF the only reason i clicked on the search link
Here's the safest way to play football: Don't play.
I've never even heard the term 'hip drop' until this came out. I'm 69, and I've been following football since my late dad watched the Giants because the Patriots didn't exist yet. Where has the talk been about hip-drop caused injuries? I don't get it.
They’re been talking about this for years now.. Seems like once or twice a year a player’s leg is getting snapped in half by one of these hip drop tackles.
NFL - No Fun League. 5 years they will be the NFFL the NATIONAL FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE.
They want u to tackle a qb the way they don’t want u to tackle other defenders lol
The NFL's uptick in "hip-drop tackles" is, in part, the result of the league penalizing tacklers for "leading with the head." Since it keeps the tacklers head away from the ball carrier, it's how players have adapted to NFL rule changes. Now how are they supposed to tackle? At this rate, it's going to be the N(F)FL National (Flag) Football League.
@@Nunya7211 Umm, not sure how you deduced that I'm promoting some kind of conspiracy theory. Ironically, you are the one implying it's a conspiracy to promote scoring.
My point is that because one thing was banned (or more tightly regulated), and the players adapted accordingly, but now that adaptation is banned. A defender's ability to effectively tackle is being chipped away bit by bit. I worry this slippery slope is putting an exciting sport like NFL Football on the path to becoming a nerfed joke like soccer. Maybe this regulation will have no impact at all, but I worry the sport is becoming softer and softer.
The "proper" way to tackle is to stop the advance of the ball carrier within the confines of the rules, which are being whittled away. You're right, the textbook way to tackle is legal, but just like it's perfectly legal to drive below the speed limit, it's a lame and boring option. Just my opinion.
All football players know that we were coached to wrap up and gator roll not hip drop everyone who has played the game knows that so I don’t get the outrage like the hip drop is the only way to tackle
Gator rolls will be called as hip drops
Under the wording of this rule. 1: wrap up, 2: "unweight yourself" (not be on your feet) 3: swivle your body (roll over while holding on). A gator tackle can be seen as a hip drop. I played high school football at 5'4 130lbs, I was a foot shorter and 100 pounds lighter than some of the people I was up against, so the gator roll was all I could do. So I'm just trying to figure out what a legal tackle is anymore.
@@austinmodeen7108 unweighting yourself and rolling over is a gator roll I’m confused on how that isn’t exactly what you just said and by the book to the new rule you grab and roll not grab drop and roll I played all the way thru college now currently playing in France at 6’0 280
@jdub3943 You obviously have more experience than I do, so I'll admit that coming in, I was under the assumption that like me people watching these videos on RUclips peaked by playing in high school and act like they know more than they do. I was saying how the similarities between the hip-drop tack le and the gator roll could easily be confused for each other, and if you interpret the wording, the right way the gator roll could fall into the ban
How do you except to tackle a 6’5 250 tighten you have to use your weight to bring that person down. When yall can grab dreads and they playing on turf that’s cause more people getting hurt. Football is a violent sport either way it goes. Now offense finna have a field day because of this rule change
Put a fucking flag on them and be done with it. Adrian Peterson would literally rush for 2000 yards a season under these rules.
Here's how the whole thing will play out:
1. Ban tackling altogether.
2. Ban flag football to protect fingernails.
3. Touch football will require fly-wrist action prior to touching.
4. Pink tutus will be required on all uniforms.
No no no we don’t need to go that far, clearly the logical next step is to just ban defense, then nobody can get hurt. Genius, right?
@@beng7844 yep. Amazing how many knuckleheads commenting here are ok with all of this and apparently know nothing about the sport of football
wrap, and roll....... wasn't what got Dontari Poe a roughing the passer on Tom Brady?
Yup.
Everything was a flag against the golden boy Tom Brady… His knee injury was the beginning of all the stupid rules to protect the offense.
Why don't they just ban tackling all together and make the players wear dresses? More flags, more timeouts, more add revenue.
It’s truly a bastardized version of the sport I played, coached, and loved…… just please stop calling it football
MLBPA "wins" but minor leaguers and team control players get totally screwed over
Hopefully that will be happening less now that the minor leaguers are represented by the MLBPA, though I wouldn't be surprised if they still wind up being sacrificial lambs in negotiations.
Football, an inherently dangerous sport, is going to turn into nothing but touch football in about 50 years. These guys are warriors, if they were scared of getting hurt THEY WOULDN’T PLAY. IT’S SUPPOSED TO HURT ITS A FULL CONTACT SPORT. And if the defenders are the only ones who have to think about how to tackle, but an offensive guy can still run full speed and bulldoze you into the ground, then what results is a one sided game. Not to go on too long of a tangent, but in football I’ve gotten my bell rung more times from tackling bigger guys who drive their shoulder into your facemask more than anything else. Db’s get CONCUSSED making routine tackles but you don’t see them tryna ban trucking people. So what’s the real goal, more offense? At the end of the day YOU’RE GONNA GET HURT REGARDLESS, STOP ONLY THING ABOUT OFFENSIVE PLAYERS AND REALIZE THAT THAT ALL 22 OF THE MEN ON THE FEILD ARE EQUALLY AT RISK. Do not let them tell you that they are making a contact sport safer by making guys make split seconds decisions before massive collisions, nothing about that is safer.
50 years my ass, try 5 years we live in clown world
This Shit is GOOFY, I think if they're gonna agree to try this BS out. They shouldn't have had it be 15yds, start out @ 5yds the most. To think Vegas has their hands in the pot before, games are gonna be so unexpectedly goin the other way. If it ain't broke, don't F'N fix it. Because this STUPID decision is breakin it more than what it already is....
why is it always the defenders job to protect the ball carrier? Ban fighting for extra yards
Go ahead and call it powderpuff league!PPL sounds like a good payday!
I have watched several videos discussing this rule change.I have seen about 300+- comments and not ONE person thinks this is a good idea.Roger, the people have spoken, please for the sake of the sport rescind this nonsense and PLEASE retire, and let's get a real football guy as commisioner, you have done enough damage to my game.
Whatever man! The rule is dumb! THE PLAYERS GOING TO GET HURT NO MATTER WHAT U DO!!!
I'm willing to bet $100 at even-odds the Lions will be the first to be screwed out of a game because of this. Why? Because up until they built an actual NFL level roster, one of the primary reasons the Lions existed was to get F-D on new or existing obscure rules nobody really understood fully. Call it a hunch. Some things are just eternal. I dunno, how long before we have mixed-gender flag football in trunks and bikinis? As long it attracts eye-balls.
There’s gonna one of these called against them against the cowboys this season.
How are you supposed to bring somebody down from behind🤔
I watched less football last year then i ever have in 30 years. That trend will continue. Another American institution going down sooner or later.
Same. I canceled my nfl ticket that i was already on my last straw with.
Dude actually gives a great argument to fine players immediately. He just doesn't understand what hes' saying.
Anyway the NFL certainly does stand for Not For Long these days. Pretty soon the system will gets it's way and women will be playing in the NFL. As the filed will be one giant Whoopi Cushion Pillow and players will have emergency reliease flags on their side(Emegency Release due to the fact that 0.01% get caught up and dragged down by the flag grabber and that's...DANGEROUS)
This is all going back to No need to pay adults to play a boys game. Just watch the boys play. It will be just as legit.
Ww3 is coming.
They need women to play like they did during ww2 with baseball.
I used to make sure I had Sundays off just to catch football games...now I treat it like NBA....wake me up when my team 8s in the Super Bowl.
This is insane
It's absolutely horrible for the game. I fully expect people not to watch any games anymore.
Well they found out they can put fines on whatever they want so just expect more of that. It is not even an issue of what should be legal or not but an issue of the NFL overexerting its power to extort players.
NRL have banned it (and have a really good video on what is a hip drop and what isn't), the obvious ones are penalized on field and some times fined after the game, the less obvious are just fines, and suspensions for the really bad one ex. Pat Carrigan on Jackson Hastings (Carrigan got 6 weeks for that)

This is dumb
Watched the NFL for 30 years
Have never heard of a hip-drop tackle. They just killed the sport didnt they
I think Roger Goodell does a good job at taking the integrity out of the game. Banning hip drop tackles, taking the kickoff out the game, taking the possibility for pinning a team deep on a punt, making the extra point harder, changing the rules on where you can hit a quarterback. So Roger Goodell has stripped all the integrity from the game and what has he done to protect the integrity, make the sport exciting and keep player safety on the forefront? Nothing. This guy is the worst commissioner the NFL has ever had. Joke.
Long time coming. Its as dangerous as a horse collar
The one time I was hip-dropped was by my friend in practice in hight school, and I got hurt and missed time because of it. Sort of like the horse collar tackle. Just sayin...
Gay. I knew they were going to make it a penalty, but still... Gay.
5 years the NFL will be touch football 😂😂😂😂
Why would any team use a first round pick on a defensive player when they are so limited limited 10:20
Another rule for the Refs to screw the Lions over!
What if the NFL lowered penalty yardage and made it where you got 3 penalties a game and if you foul out you get kicked out of the game and suspended the next game. That would lower the detrimental huge penalty plays but not give defensive players an incentive to continually make penalty plays.
That's even worse.

The ball carriers still allowed to lower there head and lead with it but a hip drop tackle is to much lmfao
It’s all about gambling. The sport we love has been compromised. Refs have way too much influence over a game.
Skip all the BS and put the flags on their hips.
I'm listening to you debate the use of fines to police behaviour during games and you missed the key point. A Coach will encourage a player to do something that will see the player fined but will win his team the game, (or their Division, which can be the case when you deliberately injure a key player of a Divisional opponent), but will discourage a player from doing something that will not see the player fined but will lose his team the game. Fines don't work.
Its fine to change the game: but
You cant compare current players to the past: THE RULES ARENT THE SAME. THE GAME ISNT THE SAME GAME.
Goddammit
Just go ahead and make it flag football already…
Just because you get used to something doesn't mean it's good. Humans are made to adapt, we can adapt to absolutely horrific situations. That doesn't mean we should just accept something because we're going to be able to get used to it.
