I re-wrote the meeting between Fred and Velma from the HBO series "Velma" because I had to.

Fred cheating off of Velma so he could get better grades to his strict parents than thinking she was Mexican is more reasonable
The fact that he never outrights calls her mexican, he just knew she was better at Spanish than him, and him being desperate enough to please his parent that he cheats but Himbo enough to not remeber whit whom he cheated was priceless.
Basically, he just goes with the stream and hardly wonders why he's there but all the same happy to be there.

I like how you kept Fred's dismissiveness of Velma, but you don't frame it as him being malicious towards her, as it's just him being kinda simple-minded and unaware of how words affect people. Velma also feels less vindictive and more down to earth. She's more grounded and analytical, but her awkwardness and self-doubt feels more realistic and make her way more likable compared to the show. She actually acts like "Velma."
You are 100%
I couldn't be more agree with you
He still has that himbo energy much like the original
Wished this guy wrote the show
Spot. The. FCK. On.
I can't believe how this makes Velma and Fred _instantly_ more likable with a really simple revision of the script.
It’s weird right?
@@Yes-yt4iv yes
You somehow made Fred being a himbo funny while still sticking faithful to his character. Fred was never a mean-spirited person. He was just out of the loop on a few things. I'd for sure watch the show if it was written like this.
By nature, himbos are not really mean-spirited.
He also was a savant who was brilliant and capable with some things despite it
None of the characters where mean spirited, but the show thought making all of the characters jerks was edgy. Honestly even if they were an original cast of characters and not butchering the personalities of an already established standard they would be too unlike-able for me to enjoy the show.
It's always funny when shows like this that try to do hard to make one person sound like such an awful person ends up being the one fans actually like. Fred is the only one in this God awful adaptation that is mean because of a shitty upbringing. The poor guy is just really clueless and naive. The awful Santa Inc show from a year or two ago did the same thing and people found Santa Claus to be the smarter more reasonable one despite being the antagonist.
This Fred is just stupid and that’s what’s funny. Velma’s Fred is a giant d*** and his only joke is that his is small. (tl;dr I agree)
This really nails down the dynamic the two have always had. Fred's the guy who just goes with everything confidently, while Velma is the one to ask the practical questions to actually keep things grounded.
Having Daphne in the middle since they both have feelings for her could have really made for good drama/comedy.
And also Norville is there for snacks and just enjoys being included.
That is true about Fred's character. He's a huge dork who loves his hobbies and isn't afraid to express how he feels.
I wish this was the way it was. Always what I loved about scooby doo besides the titular character, their relationships with each other
Well even he knows how those inclusion quotas work…
I really would've loved that dynamic! And just imagine how awkward Velma would be around Daphne while Fred just runs headfirst in to impress her and shaggy would get him out of it with scoob while the group solved mysteries!!! Aaaaaa qwq
Honestly, I think the show should've incorporated Fred's supposed 'Face Blindness' or 'Prosopagnosia' into his character, kind of undiagnosed.
That would've made for something interesting to work with!
The first time they meet, Fred doesn't remember Velma because of a time gap that is them sharing Spanish class last year.
But he meets up with people established to have met regularly like Daphne, but he often genuinely gets confused at who they are, though he's usually able to recognize them through distinct, important details like Daphne's red hair or his dad's mustache. It would also kind of explain the scene when Fred vents his issues to Velma again, whom he understood was just a stranger, because it was just the second time they met, and Velma wasn't able to tell him her identity.
He knows there's something wrong about the fact he can't recognize people right away, but he dismisses it as him just being extremely forgetful.
Go to the scene when Fred protects Velma from the school, and Velma tells him her name, and he thinks for a few seconds before recognizing her. Fred would also get scared by her telling him an important detail of their conversation last meeting. This would be when Velma and Fred get to know each other, and when Fred gets to take note of a detail that would help him recognize her the next time they meet: her glasses.
Fred has always been the lovable clueless himbo. Him annoying people mostly came from his ignorance and not from maliciousness
Exactly, he means well all the time and if he ever does hurt someone's feelings or wrongs them he tries to make it up to them.
This version of Velma's Fred seems like a Fred that can be obsessed with traps and nets. Which is what a Fred is supposed to be.
This 1 minute storyboard with no voices or sounds was more enjoyable than the six 25 minute long episodes they've already released
I bet.
Imagine what if this excerpt voices by Frank Welker and Mindy Cohn ( original Fred and Velma voice actors )
Fred’s raw himbo energy is amazing
The later versions of Fred made him like a human Golden Retriever. Loyal, fun, sometimes careless and a little dopey.
This latest version of Fred is just a one note joke.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: It's sad that random people on the internet can come up with better writing than "Talented" and "Professional" Hollywood writers
More like people who care about the story vs people who care about the money.
That's the thing, really. The people who get the mainstream jobs aren't any less random people except for where they live and who they know.
The same somewhat applies even to people who post on RUclips. JDJ isn't all that random, and it took a lot to get this channel into our feeds..
The random people who needs hiring
There's talent here
Its probably because Hbomax originals don’t have the same competent writers as those of Hbo produced shows(yu know the guys in charge of Succession and The last of us)
Okay this proves two things!
1: Velma's art style can and does work very well with the characters.
2: you can make jokes (that are not shitty) while also not making the characters complete Assholes!
I really love that you did this. this interaction is actually wholesome and makes me genuinely love their chemistry. They're different sure but they still somewhat feel like the characters we know, this truly is a balance between old and new.
Edit: I think this is more your style than the Velma art style but the point still remains. Beautiful story board drawings btw!
Of all the problems with I had with the show, the artstyle and animation wasn't one of them.
@@ivorynk752 true that dude.
Yeah, I think the most impressive thing here is that despite maintaining Mindy's decision to give Fred a lobotomy, the videographer made sure to preserve Fred's nature and personality. The real Fred is canonically a very kind, protective person who is both pleasant to be around and a person you can count on in times of need. He's a great leader and a very brave, wholesome human being.
@@TurtleShroom3 yeah! Fred feels the same as he did in the past here!
@@ivorynk752 Yup. But mainly it was the hallucinations that really stood out. The rest was pretty simple and basic as far as animation and style goes. But those hallucinations, as nonsensical as they are even in the context of the entire show, had some amazing animation. A shame it was wasted on such a mean-spirited corruption of a classic IP.
It's such a shame how many small creators can actually put more effort into personalities and likable (even relatable) humor into characters from shows that don't even try to make good characters, personalities, story , or even a good show in general
They decided from the get go that Fred was going to be their punching bag and that Velma is going to be a massive bitch. They decided to ignore the character’s original personalities in favor of making cheap vacuous jokes that they repeat over and over again.
@@SteveSmith-ty8ko yeah its basically just mindy kalings overly indulgent self insert fanfiction
That's because normal people and hollywood people live in 2 seperate realities
This version of Fred feels confident and self-oriented in the way where he probably practices positive self talk in the mirror every morning and has a great relationship with his therapist. He has little affirmations written down in his day planner. Instead of any homework assignments.
This description of him is so adorable 😭 how is a random person on RUclips doing better than a team of story writers
A lot of his modern depictions tend to portray him as an intelligent if not odd man, who likes building traps to the point it’s clearly just him expressing himself. My favorite version of it was Mystery Inc where Daphne loves him but Fred is so oblivious that he just doesn’t pick up on anything she says most of the time and thus treats her like a good friend, he gushes over traps and buys so much into the stereotype of a man being tough and unfeeling that he has an actual identity crisis when the fact he’s the most Feeling out of the entire group is pointed out leading to the most popular out of context quote ever “I’m not a man anymore, I have feelings!”
This sounds so girly lol , only females would do that lol.
@@Broomer52 yea and I'm pretty sure the mystery Inc writers confirmed he has autism or is at least on the spectrum in the show
Like a less emotionally scarred Brett. I vibe with this Fred, and a lot of the previous versions of him.
I loved how you made Fred seem douchey but not insufferable. Velma seemed annoyed but the interaction felt way more genuine and heartfelt than the original. Also you made that cheating joke so much more funny.
yah
I think it paints him more as…unaware
He says things but he doesn’t realize how they could be taken. It makes him seem less malicious and more naïve
Heartfelt is a good word :) a big issue with Velma is that nothing really mattered. It was unrelated bit after unrelated bit. This show is still quirky and funny, but we enjoy the characters
I love everything about this. The "I am handsome," the utter lack of braincells in this boy, Velma's stuttering when flustered but snarky when calmer. And then the genuine care at the end? Perfection
Can you start a series of rewriting scenes from the show and make them better? I think a lot of people would genuinely enjoy that, and given how trending the backlash about the show is, it could probably also give you more traction, and appreciating for your skills, because your art is honestly really good :D
And if I was a somewhat decent voice actor, I’d volunteer to take a role.
@@Hollyclown Uuuh, okey?
PLEEAAASSSEEE!!!! Please have Scooby exist as an actual dog and not an acronym!!!
OMG YES PLEASE!!
I'd be down for voice acting anything tbh. Just not swears. But hecks yes, a fan made version of the Velma show but actually watchable is a million times better than the self insert version we have
Now I’m picturing a big, climactic scene where the gang needs to do something really athletic or needs to physically fight something. So Velma turns to Fred and says, “Go get ‘em, Tiger!” And he practically glows, puts in his earbuds, and then kicks some ass to Eye of the Tiger.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
You are genius. So many people they DIDN'T. FREAKIN. HIRE.
And while he does this, his friends are in the background listening to him sing it out loud (poorly and/or loudly), but they don't want to kill his vibe
They could have had the murder be the school therapist, and the reason is that he was tired of the students making fun of him so he was planning to give the students trama, and he would be insisting to increase the prices of other therapists which when you see him do this you originally, you think that it’s just him trying to help his fellow therapists get more money for dealing with trama, but when it’s revealed you see it was him making the students go to him instead of more professional therapists, so he gets more money and respect, there you go it makes a lot more sense then half the show and could make for amazing character development.
THAT'S ACTUALLY WAY BETTER THAN ANY AND EVERY JOKE OF THE SHOW
This is incredible, not only is your art wonderful but you actually paint the characters like their original selves. And you even added the new charm of Fred being all about himself but you didn't make it obnoxious. Great job on this

man, this looks like an amazing base to build the hyper confident fred we had in og series, like imagine an arc of turning this, into that, it would be pretty interesting, him learning to focus but still keeping that simple mindedness and turning it into beeing genuinely a pure good person with touches of vanity and pride (along with using the sections of his brain that have passion for other stuff, probably manual stuff that leds to making traps)
Here we see a resurrection of a beloved himbo icon, originally found dead from the showwriters' backyard. Jamie truly the GOAT.
Words can not describe how much I loved this, Fred is sooo funny. You totally nailed the "somewhat arrogant, but not to an obnoxious degree" charisma points that I expected them to go for in the abomination of a show they fabricated. Also, the drawings were great! You've earned a new subscriber

This had more chemistry for Velma and Fred than any of the original shows had
Not true. Original show had better chemistry in Velma and fried
This is MUCH better! Kinda embarrassing that a huge company can't write a scene better than ONE person. Perhaps they just need better people like you to write for them. Imagine a whole team of actually good storytellers 👍
It mostly Mindy whatever her last name is she was the lead writer and with how huge her ego is she probably only hired yes men that would agree with her whether her ideas were bad or not
I like how you portrayed them here!
We got Velma being the smart voice of reason yet still being sympathetic and shy
And Fred being a little dumb, but not overly immature unlike in the show and also having to deal with his strict parents and how they’re supposedly treating him not like a literal 4 year old but as someone who needs to meet all their standards to get their approval
If Velma wants to redeem itself then they should hire YOU as one of the shows writers, same goes for High Guardian Spice

This actually made me smile, the way that you portraied the characters in just a minute and a half feels really fresh, welcoming and really nice unlike the writing team in the entire current Velma show
Velma being awkward and self doubting is really good and Fred being dumb but not being as extremely insufferable as he is in the show is pretty nice to watch
Actually it's less he's dumb and more absentminded. The dialogue implies Fred is actually a perfectly fine student, he just has problems concentrating.
I enjoy this quite a bit. it establishes the issue inreguards to his parents. brings up the history of velma and fred in this universe of being classmates. connectings to that running joke about either not realizing her ethnisity or assuming she is smart enough for him to cheat on due to glasses and her being smart. and brings up that fred does actually have okay grades asudefrom spanish which is relatable. I like how her reaction does give s hint to her attraction to him that was brought up in the show bit leaves wiggleroom inthat regard as she still respects that fred is in a relatinship AND that even if she finds him handsome she doesn't know him that well on a personal level yet. I also REALLY like how you had fred bring up that he is taken and ask for her not to touch him...showing HE respects his relationship with daphne. and I like how velma listens and understands his reasoning for cheating after he explained. also a hint at some seld absorbtion by fred but making it funny because he IS factually handsome, he did end up turninghis music down to listen to her so he isnt a complete jerk and it explains some of his blank looks as well as MAYBE it isnt just him being dumb as he had his soundtrack playing. AND you even bring p velma having a strained issue with her dad by contrasting it to fred's issue. AND connected the sing he listened to during the test nder his breath thathe cheated on her with to the song he is listening to now. chef's kiss on all fronts. XD
Omg thank you so much for that reaction!!
This is a human moment. I don't know why they made Velma so hostile to Fred and vice versa. With a scene like this is can lead to great character development where Velma can empathize and humanize Fred while Fred can recognize Velma later on and go to Velma for help studying and ACTUALLY becoming friends naturally. Almost like character development.

“It’s ‘Eye of the Tiger’, yeah.” made me smile. I love your version of Fred.
I really like the concept of them being awkward goofy teens and meeting for the first time, I just wish the show was more like this
This Velma is such a relatable and lovable character, and this Fred is literally my crush RN. This proves that even with the major changes in the franchise, you can still have good material as long as you have great writing. Too bad the actual show is not an original Velma who has a different ethnicity, just Mindy Kaling cosplaying as Velma and being awful and a writing team turning a beloved franchise into a dumpster fire with awful writing.
No
You should make this a series of videos, like “rewriting the interactions between Velma and nor-vile” or “rewriting that one dumb shower scene from the first episode” because I would really prefer those interactions.
Rewrite the entire show while you're at it
You understand what the Velma writer's don't: Fred isn't stupid, he's just a goofball.
I love these rewrites! It really shows how much potential the show could've had if it went this direction. Amazing work as always!
...Damn, you actually did it. You made "Velma" watchable and genuinely funny; excellent work.
In a minute and a half, you put together better writing, and characterization, than Velma's entire run. And I know that's a low bar, but I do mean you made something genuinely good.
I literally care so much about these characters, whereas I couldn’t care less about Velma’s. You perfectly balanced the “imperfect teenager” thing the show was trying to go for with “humanity and likability”. Really really great work with this, I love the style and personality behind this animatic!
I love how you expressed Fred's sudden kindness instead of the spin-off that made him look like a Rude , pretentious , selfish , Fred they gave us in the show . With Velma Being not to far behide as they made her ingeneral unbareable to be around with her constant rude slander (even though in the og she was only sassy at comedic times , ) that, that was pleasent but they turned her into a judgmental , cruel , person that'd probably suck to be around .
Fr they seemed to have interpret their characteristics in the most out of character way possible
Hey, I just got an idea for an improved dynamic for Velma and Daphne in "Velma"
Remember how Velma said that she's "truth without a filter"? Well, that ends up being a bit of a flaw she should work on... Said flaw drives a wedge between Daphne and Velma all because she inadvertently said something VERY hurtful to one of Daphne's close friends. Daphne, looking out for her friends, felt very betrayed by this and starts to be rude to Velma, though Daphne usually tries to avoid her... It's only when they meet in the bathroom do they talk about Velma's lack of a filter.
It ultimately ends with Velma and Daphne reconciling and apologizing to each other. They also end up being friends later on.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I hope you liked the idea I put out!
Edit: Holy mother of God, I did NOT expect this to get so many likes and a heart-...! THX SO MUCH!

@@mobileterrarian3653 That's just how it works on RUclips if you edit a comment. Oh my god I love your rewrites so much! They genuinely make these scenes so much funnier and enjoyable! Massive props!
They try and tear down everything that isn't as miserable as them. Fred is a good man who happens to be a different color and they can't stand it.
Wow. You actually salvaged these characters and made them tolerable, lovable if I dare say. Amazing job
Honestly, put a well written himbo in literally anything and I will love it. Now we need to start hiring writers like this
Omg everything about this is so charming! This is my eye/mind bleach after watching the original.
Not that you had to. But you WANTED to.
And we thank you...I think.
You got me there~
I like this Fred being funny dumb instead of insultingly dumb. Honestly, him being an innocent dumb dumb is amazing.
This is AMAZING! I got a laugh out of it. It wasn't META or cringe! This interaction was naturally funny and your writing is top-tier compared to the original show.
This was honestly cute. I love the genuine personalities you gave each, it made thier interaction, in turn, feel genuine, and the comedy was on beat! Well done! 👏
This is really charming, I like how you handled both of their characters and made them instantly more likeable. Nice work!
Absolutely beautiful and very endearing... Fred acting like the 2000s Fred actually, very cool 😁👍
Simply amazing. This proves that one fan of Scooby Doo can write better than a whole team of professional writers who don’t care about Scooby Doo.
If the show was written like this I'd be all for it. This scene was so cute and actually funny! 🤣
