    I'm sure you knew of this, but the young fern shoot/sprouts are edible and tasty whether cooking separately, with other edibles or meat. As for the shelter I would insert the fern leaves first then the moss and the dried stalks just so when there's motion the dirt do not fall on you, that's all. As for fishing, one possibility is to divert the water flow from the pond so you can easily harvest the fishes there once the water is drained; lots of work, but worth it if you already seen fishes in there. Please continue your adventure and thanks for sharing.

    Ah there’s the video we’ve been waiting for! Pure raw bushcraft, meditative really. No talk about what kind of steak is eaten, type of beer was bought, or fancy new axe and pants being used.
    A lot of youtubers and audience seem to lose touch of what bushcraft is about. They don’t understand its about connecting as one with the woods, always seem to need to be entertained about something and have trouble adjusting to silence. It’s what we need once in a while and the reason I prefer heading into the woods alone. Glad to see you still got it, reason why your channel is one of my favourites.
    Can’t wait till your next video bud,
    Cheers,
    Alex

    been on VCI and the coastal mainland many times for long durations (2-4 weeks) in a tent. "No Water"? Water is everywhere. Shelter material is everywhere. This guy's video is awesome and informative - he shows how to use these things and to do it simply and quickly with everything around. Sometimes the moss is hard to find, at least as thick as that. A shotgun is a nice companion, as much as bears are not nice companions, but guns are pretty hard to come by in Canada. Enjoy, bushwackers.

    To be in those woods with little audible evidence of others...is more than peaceful its a rare cathedral. The adage of god helps those who help themselves seems apt here. Your confidence brims from knowledge gained previously and that you can survey the resources available and marshal your wit to make a go of it. And you get great satisfaction at creating a shelter, finding water, and almost something to eat. Nice.

Your videos has given me the courage to try camping again. Got my brother to drop me off at the on-ramp of exit 1 in Kingsland, Ga.. told him to pick me up in 6 days, same spot. I crawled out in them woods and immediately heard wild hogs. I crawled back out of them woods and waited for my brother for them 6 days. Ate grasshoppers in the tall grass, which I will be talking to the mayor about cutting. Any who he came and I got the nickname mud belly from all the Georgia red clay on my shirt. anyways Go Dawgs , keep em coming. Don't do meth

      @@TheDaveDryden as for the people (critics) don't let them get you down.. I know you've talked about them in the past and try not to let them bother you. It's easy for them to criticize how you do your videos.. but it's exactly that "YOUR VIDEOS", so do them as you like. I'm not a big fan of silent videos..but yours aren't exactly silent! You let the natural sounds do the talking sometimes. I find it adds to the experience. You out Solo.. so you don't have anyone to talk to anyway. I don't talk outloud when I'm in the woods alone..except for the rare explative when something messes up.. lol. Your out making videos again, sharing your experience & experiences so do it as you see fit. People can choose to watch or not watch. Critics (Trolls)will always be around, because they live to pick at other people..because they must be perfect! We all could only wish to be that great.. but not being perfect is being human. Through video we could all appear perfect because we can edit out any failures or mistakes..like not catching a fish.. We know that's not reality. Those critics must get annoying I'm sure, but I know your faith helps you to deal with those actions from small, close minded people. If you look at their criticism towards your videos as them getting whatever satisfaction they get from doing it..well I guess your doing them a Good turn.. helping them get their measly amount of Satisfaction & Joy.. So cudos to you for bringing that joy to them! Ignoring them is the best way to handle them. Your videos are always real, success or failure you always own it. Some will say that when you were calling out to the Bear that it was for dramatic effect not real.. they are the people that live in the city and walking through an inner city park is the closest they get to wilderness.. Being someone who has spent time in Bear infested areas through my life I appreciate that is a reality of where you live. I have lived in BC and Camped there as well as Northern, Ontario. I have had Bear encounters myself. In telling some people of those experiences I know some people believe and some don't. It's always those inner city Park adventurers that question the reality.. So I've never paid much attention to their criticisms about "My experience's". Please don't let those people dictate how you will make your videos, and just keep being true to you! Your one of the better You Tubers. Your not going out with a pile of fancy kit, you don't just reply to comments from Other Popular You Tubers & ignore the average person like myself.. Only a few guys are like you that way. I respect that so much more than guys who hold themselves on a pedestal (so to say) that ignore the average Joe! Never loose that, I don't feel you will. Guys like you, Mike (MCQ), Shawn James, Jim & Ted Baird, Joe Price (L2L) Doug Linker, Zed, Wooded Beardsman & Craig (Bushcraft Padawan) are all great. You've all replied to a comment here or there I've made over the years..(Even Dave Canterbury has replied) and I do know not every comment can be answered. Even private massages I've sent some guys.. you'd think a reply to that would be sent, even just a short one line reply to a question.. But some guys think they are too good or too big to reply to some measly guy from Southern, Ontario. Even when a Subscriber sends them a gift.. when they can't remember that person's name when saying thank you, that causes me to loose some respect for them. Not that everyone needs their Shout out for an act of kindness & Generosity, But out of respect they should be thanked appropriately and in kind. I put you up there with guys like Zed, Shawn, Craig, Wooded Beardsman, Jim & Ted, Joe Price, Doug, & Dave.. because NONE of you seem to act like your better than or above us mere mortal Subscribers. We know you all genuinely appreciate the fact that we subscribe to your Channels! It's guys like all of you who represent this gendre of You Tube the best way it can be! So I've Rambled on & on enough, Sorry for such a long comment but I really, truely appreciate the "Good Ones" and wanted you to know that I feel you are one of them. I've missed a few others that I could have named but I just listed the guys I Regularly and Truely wait for videos from. I'm not being sexist either.. there are a few Great Females out there too..like Emily & Brooke etc.. Most of these people also consistently put out Very Family friendly videos.
      Please keep being true to yourself and being you. It's really appreciated by many many people! Looking forward to the next one, Cheers 🇨🇦

      @@Shawn-px3yz I read it all! Thanks bud for the words. I used to be that subscriber so I know the feeling, Zed is a great example of someone who answered all my comments before I started my channel. Every single one! I try to be like that but it isn't easy to get to all of them. Mcq is another that answered me before my channel and I always appreciated replies back then. Us creators are normal people, and I know some of my subs know their stuff better than me so I don't kid myself. The reality is that I'm not in this for Fame or Fortune so that's why I'm like this.

      @Shawn-px3yz 5 лет назад +2

      @@TheDaveDryden I really appreciate that you are like that.. and Yes, Zed and MCQ are great. I respect how MCQ has reinvented his channel and is actually living that lifestyle.. I only wish I could live that way.. good thing he has an understanding like minded Canadian wife in Meg!!!lol.. As you also have Family obligations keep some of us from living that lifestyle and that why we get out and do what we can in the woods. I'll probably be almost 60 by the time I could possibly attempt to live that NoMad lifestyle like Mike and Meg. Only difference is I would head to British Columbia to do it..not Sweden or Norway.. although that lifestyle is way more accepted in those countries. I do appreciate your reply's Dave and completely understand when you don't reply. Im not usually looking for a reply unless I'm asking a specific question. Either way I do appreciate your responses very much because I can't imagine the number of replies you would have to make to reply to everyone...You'd never be able to make any videos! Take care, I'm looking forward to your next video. Cheers 🇨🇦

    Born,raised and bred on Vancouver Island,perhaps the most survivable a place as any I've ever been. There is virtually NO place on Vancouver Island where fresh water( you always carry halogen tablets when you're in the bush,right?) is more than 3 miles away from you and if your'e near salt water,boil it,strain it through some fern fronds or an old sock and it's palatable.A walking stick,good boots,seasonable clothing ( nights are cool to cold even in July/August,on the island) ,some trail mix ,a space blanket ( Capitol Iron $4.95,Canadian Tire $7.00), a pair of dry socks, and 2 types of fire,wooden matches dipped in wax, and a trusty Bic...from Sydney Spit to Cape Scott ,or from Port Hardy to Clayoucut Sound...if you have that stuff , a decent knife and a fishing pole, you can ( and I have many times) survived on Vancouver Island reasonably comfortably in most months of the yr. Winter is wet and cold,but you will be okay with this kit if you keep your head in the game and your wits about you..and don't try and climb Mt Albert Edward in December...lol

    Nice video! Had just found your earlier stuff and was wondering why they stopped! Hope to see more soon. Being an Englishman who moved to Vancouver a few years ago, your video about wildlife in BC and solo camping was very useful to me. We don't have the bears in the UK, maybe just an angry badger or fox! It takes a little getting used to. The rain was nothing new to us though!
