Ohh. Beryl. You really never fail. Each time I need some info about travel in Türkiye, you are there. Your videos really help. I’ve been in Turkey 2x already and for the third time, i will take the Dogu express. Thanks so much for your help.
Thank you so much for all your fantastic and incredible tips! I’ve done a 33 hours train ride from Bangalore to Chennai , India and the train conditions were far worse. I’ve just subscribed to your channel and have watched almost all your videos on Istanbul Cheers ✌️
I have been binge watching your videos to prepare for my trip to IST! And it has been soooo helpful! Thank you so much for sharing!! And your Turkish is so good! How did you learn!
Fantastic presentation, Bery! Unfortunately, the tour operators resell the seats for much more. 30 hours is a very easy and comfortable train journey when you are travelling in a premium sleeper carriage. Absolutely need to have good food too! Thank you for sharing this!
Very nice presentation and I have already made up my mind for Touristic train from Ankara to Kars. I am from Pakistan and planning a vacation in late september with my wife. I will be grateful if you could recommend other destinations out of Istanbul. Istanbul is a definite destination and I will take your advise to explore other destinations which are not very common and not crowded.
Thank you for all the info. Any idea what time does the train leave ankara andcreaches Kars?...1 website mention its will somewhere at night...is it easy to get accomodation to stay in kars?
Hello Bery that was a wonderful video on Train journey in Turkey. The Dogu Ekspressi site is accessible from UK!!! Some beautiful train journeys for train lovers are In UK The Caledonian express Trans Pennine express US The Californian Zephyr Canada Via Rail from Toronto to Vancouver or Price Rupert. All these routes are Epic routes. The Canada route if taken in Winter will give you added "Winter wonderful"
The prices has indeed changed a lot, is better to check the website for updated prices. I believe it has already started but the best season in case you want to see all snowy is January even February. Cheers!
Hi Bery, thank you for the video. Great presentation! Please advise what we can expect to see of the scenery if we were to go in mid November. I guess the touristic Expresi will only run in Dec onwards. So, we will opt for the Classic Dogu Expresi. Will we see know covered landscape in some parts? May thanks.
Hi there! To be honest I cannot tell you what to expect during a certain month especially when it comes to weather 😀. Even when we where there in January our guide who is from that region told us that it hadn’t snowed as in previous years so we still saw some parts without that much snow, sooo, you just might have to come and discover it by yourself 😁
Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. Is there anywhere i can check how long is each stop on thd touristic train and if if i can simply go out and explore at every city stop?
hi.. we really like your videos. Would you make a video or recommend a best dentist there in Istanbul as we r coming there next month and my mom needs a treatment as well will appreciate if you recommend a best dentist there thanks x
Hello Beri. I have a question. Someone told me that the route from Kars to Ankara is more scenic than going from Ankara to Kars. Because the time of the train departure, you get day light on the more scenic parts of the trip. Is the true?
Is totally true! Especially in winter since the day is shorter, in our case, we only got too se a bit of the nicest views with daylight, so if you have time to take both trains or only one, I’d suggest from Kars to Ankara.
Just started watching and just had to comment for a minute. Now your English is fantastic and I've always understood you perfectly, English of course is a very forgiving language in this respect. I actually though have a great laugh at your mispronunciations and your "unusual" use of words, now don't get me wrong, this is not a criticism, I think it's beautiful and as someone that has a deep interest in the English language it intrigues me how people coming from differently structured mother tongues re-order and re-speak what truly must now be seen as the actually Babel tongue ie English the voice of angels Angelish as God originally named it. "Speechless scenery" was your phrase that kicked this meander off lol, that implies that the scenery itself was unable to speak hehe, the expression you were looking for, for future reference is "Breathtaking scenery" Apologies for the strange comment, be seeing you, as I fly to Turkey very soon.
I love this comment! Is so great to read constructive comments like yours, some people just offend but don’t realize that as non-natives we’re already making a huge effort in making these videos and trying to explain everything the best as possible, at least we are leaving our comfort-zone 😀 During the filming of this video I kind of had a small breakdown because I couldn’t find the proper words for something and then I had to take a break and I wished I could make videos in my native language instead, but then I said, Bery, don’t stress too much, as long as they understand what you try to sat that’s ok 😅 I will keep the “breathtaking” part in mind, is so funny because sometimes my Spanish chip betrays me and the ideas of what I want to say come in Spanish hahahaha. Thank you for this! I’m always open to improve 🎉🎉
@@BeryIstanbulTips First, I would like to say that as an English speaker who has been trying to learn Spanish (off and on) for years, I am in awe at your mastery of English! When you do get certain phrases or pronunciation “wrong” I still know exactly what you mean and I honestly think it’s cute 🥰 It makes me realize that all those little “rules” that we just pick up as children are really hard when learning a new language. Regardless, just wanted to say how impressive you are and how much I enjoy your videos. A quick question for you: I will be visiting Istanbul and Antalya in April. Do I need to drink bottled water while I’m there or is tap water good? I always drink tap water in Cancun and I am fine, so I don’t have sensitivities. But wondering if you know if there are any comparisons with regard to water quality? Thank you!
Here’s tip I found out! If you’re trying to get a ticket, keep checking every now and then until the departure time. I noticed a few hours before the train departs, there were tickets that suddenly became available, that were previously taken. I managed to get a ticket this evening for tomorrow’s departure and there were like 5-6 couchettes that became available around 8pm (sold out previously). Keep trying and with some luck, you should be able to get it!
Hi. I was watched at first time. I am planing travel Turkey by across border from Georgia border. I have a question? Can I buy sleeper night ticket from Kars to Ankara at station?
Hi dear. I would like to know what is the cost of train travel from Istanbul to Ankara. . I hope to also take train to capadoccia but doubt that . Also how can I best cross to Cyprus from turkey side
Thank you! You need to ask directly there, they often change. They’ll out the taximeter anyways :) or if you negotiate with one of them for a full day as we did, then they can give you a better rate
Hell Beri. What local Turkish time do the seats open up? For example if i want to buy for touristic (Kars to Ankara) for 3rd Feb. I should check for it on 3rd Jan 12AM (Turkish time)?
You need to check and check and check, if you don’t mind an specific date, then move them a bit to have more chance, but if you only have an available date to go and there’s no cabin tickets, then there’s not much to do, sorry!
Another tip I found out was that a few hours before the train departs, a handful of seats will be released (that were previously sold out) that you can buy. This might not always be the case but I just checked earlier today at 3:30pm for the 5:55pm departure and there were 5 beds suddenly available (4-person sharing couchette/sleeper cabin) that were not available earlier when I checked. I’m actually intending to do this train trip in the next couple of days and I’m heading to Ankara tmrw so fingers crossed I can snag a ticket at the last minute!
I’m on the YHT to Ankara now and I managed to get a ticket on tomorrow’s normal Dogu Express! It was about 8pm when I checked and there were 5-6 couchettes available, which were displayed as sold out earlier in the day. So I would also recommend to keep checking every now and then until your departure time and you might still get a ticket.
Hello! I tried to find a ticket even in January 2023 but the website said cannot find the trip with Tourist train but only Dogu, how come? 😂 and for a round trip Ankara - Kars, and Kars - Ankara we need to pay 1300TL x 2 ?? or we have any other transportation options from Kars to Ankara?
So then there’s nothing you can do. Either take the normal train or take a bus/flight. Keep in mind that those ones get booked immediately, so you need to chase them every day.
