Hey shroom I'm 12 years old and I have never caught a flattie before and it's one of my biggest fishing goals to catch one. I live near glebe and fish on the foreshore (South Rozelle Bay/South Blackwattle Bay) and was wondering if you could maybe go fishing there and make a video about catching flattie on lure/bait (whatever you feel like on the day). Pretty much Ron! I was running up and down the dark beach haha. I am using GoPro 11. It is better than the 5 at night (I still have one) but a lot of is due to lighting I brought and head torches . Msg me if you want to know more! 😎

Shroom have you considered using the worm pliers to help grab the beach worms?
I might get a pair John, they die a bit quicker but it could be difference between having a worm or two or none
Bread and butter fishing a whiting session on worms. I did the same recently, only one whiting but found a school of barred javelin (aka grunter bream) that liked the worms.

Most beaches near me don’t have beach worms, they often need to be coastal with ocean waves. The northern beaches seems to be a good area in general for them.

Bait matters as well like pillies in a stocking tends to entangle their fangs and holds up longer and the oily scent attracts more.

@@ShroomFishing It’s interesting because I’ve been a beachwormer for 30 years (bare hand) but I use a totally different technique to the one you’re trying. When I’ve tried your method I haven’t been able to get them - although obviously it works for many.

@@Lj-er8mo its hard to describe: but I stand above the worms with a foot either side and use the bait to lure the worms over the first knuckle on my right index finger and then pin them with my thumb (against the side of my knuckle). You get a much stronger grip that way than trying to pinch them in the sand.
Whiting are also know as kidney slappers.

Fish don't have hands. If the fish runs, the hook must be in his mouth.

They often pick up a big bait and run .
Often the best technique is to allow them a good run before trying to set the hook.

Argh the curse of jerimia Wallace ,
You start off at the beach on down tide about halve way down on high tide as the wash shorter on shore ,
Then go back to the carpark with a bucket of water and airater the little battery air pumper ,
Then munch on a feed and cuppa ,
Walk back to the beach and find the gutter or rip
And cast that 10ft + monster bait in ,
That’s a good plan Dherdy, I’m gonna go back in the coming weeks or months and actually get something going off the coastal beach
