I love the beginning where Taylor and Dave are playing riffs from their two most favorite bands. It’s goofy and just shines both of their biggest inspirations
That was fucking awesome when they did the riffs for smells like teen spirit and come as you are!! how much would you freak out if they did open with those songs in full?? LOL I wish they would do that for real!! haha Dave said he had to stop because he was getting sweaty and felt weird haha omg what does that mean I wonder??
Funny when Dave said "Why can't are songs be that simple" after playing the Nirvana riffs "Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple."
Taylor's expression at like 8:55 when Gary Jr is playin the solo part!! Great! You can tell he is into that shit. I wish they had way more of that kinda stuff, solos. This is coming from a jazz drummer but...still. They barely let Dave or Chris play solos. Gary Clarke jr should play on a few of their songs.
It's amazing to me that they probably have at least 5 possible volume knobs they could use to fade-in Pat's guitar... yet they insist on using the knob on the guitar itself.
Usually when you roll the volume switch on a guitar to a low level it decreases the amount of distortion, whereas altering the volume on something other than the guitar itself maintains the same amount of distortion. So they were adding some bite to the build-up, which is actually quite clever.

well because it is totally different how the guitar volume works, since it is the source of the signal the fade in sound goes from clean and weak to distorted and loud .. ..a mixing console will just turn it up or down(volume)..thats why fuzz FM.. a guy with a name like yours should known that..lol
Songs Played: Rebel Rebel(David Bowie), Paranoid(Black Sabbath), We Will Rock You(Queen), Stairway to Heaven(Led Zep), Idk sounds like SLTS messed up, Sunday Bloody Sunday(U2), Smoke On the Water(Deep Purple) Idk what Pat is playing, Layla (D and the Dominoes)Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, Lithium(Nirvana). Fill in my Blanks please!
Its hard to watch Dave play those Nirvana bits. Just how you can tell he has moved on a little bit more and more from the loss, but how you can see it still hurts him...
i was cracking up when the did teen spirit and dave said he wanted to open with it and the crowd "would be like what?" haha. that would be funny as shit to go to a foo show and they opened with teen spirit.
1- Rebel Rebel 2- Paranoid 3- We will rock you 4- Stairway to heaven 5 - Some U2? 6- Smoke on the water 7- Bohemian Rhapsody 8- ? 9- Smells like teen spirit 10- Comes o aro 11- Lithium What did I miss?
Really like the way(s) Dave Grohl has whipped up and shaped the songs for the FF (special mention to T :)) - Sonic Highways is just another feather in the cap - hope they win Record of the Year (or whatever they call it) as a 'validation" for the work put in:) Thank you for sharing
The beginning is great but Gary Clark stole the show. Dude just came in and ripped a solo on the first take. Pat Smear gave him a SG just like that as a gift. He now plays it all the time on stage.
Barbequed Happy Meal Dave wasn't really that close with Kurt, Kurt didn't like daves Drumming and criticised Dave many times during the last tour, Kurt was also taking a 90% cut from all of nirvana earnings, Dave didn't know Kurt that long really either, only about 3 years so they weren't exactly best friends.
Jackie robinson The only time Kurt ever criticized daves drumming was right before the unplugged show in which it was actually the sticks he didn't like the sound of so they got Dave some brushes to play with and it was Courtney taking all the money. I'm sure Kurt wouldn't do that if it wasn't for her.
mike newbill no I know that’s we will rock you 😂 but Taylor also just happened to use the same drum beat in Sky Is a neighborhood on the verses was the joke I was trying to make lmaooo
They aren't playing it as a warm up...they are most likely trying to track the drums live. He's singing like that because it's just a scratch vocal( just a guide for the band to follow along). The vocals and guitars are recorded later on, separately.
To quote Dave " We know like 500 classic rock songs but only like the first 30 seconds of it"
Me too!
I love the beginning where Taylor and Dave are playing riffs from their two most favorite bands. It’s goofy and just shines both of their biggest inspirations
Taylor: "Don't f*ck up while playing Nirvana in front of Dave."
Dave: "Taylor it's not gonna happen stahp."
lol hahahahahahXD
''Giving me the gnarliest chills dude'' -Taylor Hawkins
Such a Taylor thing to say
This is like my 5 th time watching and I’m only just now realising that they aren’t on top of a roof, they are inside
Yeah, because every building has bright studio lights hovering over it
I love that they brought in Gary Clarke Jr. to play with them in the recording. I guess he nailed his guitar solo in one take.
They did the same thing with Joe Walsh too.
That take was not put on the Final mix! 😢
Taylor Hawkins playing Sunday Bloody Sunday :)
Amazing
This REALLY makes me want them to do full album of covers.
Donovan Thibodeau they have one, it's called medium rare
those first three minutes just show that they are a REAL band
What do you mean by that?
@@toke7342 Somehow, I feel like you might not get an answer to your thoroughly intriguing question since the original comment is 7 years old.

Dave Grohl with Taylor doing their Two Headed Dog taping at 10:14 was the highlight :D Thanks for sharing this.
I'd love to hear Dave sing Nirvana songs.
Marigold
8:30 gave me SO MUCH LIFE!!! Play Gary Clark, Jr.!!!!!! *look at the smile of Taylor's face - Priceless*
Damn, Taylor. DAMN. What a huge, dark hole he left behind. Like somebody turned off the sun.
8:53 Taylor losing his mind here. Such a loss. RIP.
I would love to hang out with these guys!!!
If they opened with smells like teen spirit, I would not know what to do
+Nick Barker It needs to happen already...At least once! Whatever crowd got lucky enough to be at that show would lose their shit!
That Gary Clark Jr. stuff is fucking so sweet
There are so many albums I WISH I could see how they were created in the studio. If only there was a film crew around for In Utero, for example.
ruclips.net/video/ZNyW_Ev3AOU/видео.html This is probably the closest we’ll get.
I love how Pat just can't stop laughing hahaha
From 10.08 Two Headed Dog - enjoyed this segment the most. Thank you for sharing
Gawd Taylor - so good.
I don't listen to the Foo fighters albums but I love all the studio recording videos they do, would love if more groups did that.
8:30 A killer solo, I wish they didn’t fade out the song and left it as it was, it sounds so much better imo
Taylor’s drums sounded SO GOOD here
His passion was so clear here!
Means he clearly feels sick from playing nirvana songs it’s like ptsd
Funny when Dave said "Why can't are songs be that simple" after playing the Nirvana riffs
"Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple."
CTJacob Albert Einstein, is that you?
aaron8862006
Woody Guthrie
not dave though. dave may make his songs complicated but at the end it turns out gr8
+CTJacob Right on pal. Dave once said that he learned from Kurt all what anyone else could have never taught him, the complexity in the simplicity.
+CTJacob Thats because Kurt was a genius
@3:12"heads will explode......" awkward...
crap I just got it. and Dave looked downwward in a sad kinda way. Oh Kurt...
I saw that too man
Oh fuck
Kurt was murdered.
He looked down cause he killed Kurt
The best. Love it all! They are truly gifted
I love Pat's guitar at 2:00
Pat - 'heads will explode' when referring to playing Smells Like Teen Spirit :')
mhmm!
Taylor's expression at like 8:55 when Gary Jr is playin the solo part!!

Brilliant stuff,I can't wait for their next album.
don't get too excited. i think some of the stuff they were playing at the beginning may have already been recorded by others
LOL...ya think???
8:28 God damn that was so soulful
You can see how close they are.Theres a lot of love in that room.

John Doge oh shit eh, good call! Hadn't factored that into my thinking at all.

Noah Eskew pat is playing bohemian rhapsody ;p
Norbert Borowiak Yeah didn't really recognize that part on guitar but knew it sounded familiar.
+Noah Eskew and between paranoid and rock you tehre is breaking the law (judas Priest) ;)
+Noah Eskew After Paranoid, they are playing Breaking the Law by Judas Priest
I'm 2 years late to the party but there is Breaking The Law by Judas Priest in between Paranoid and We WIll Rock You
Its hard to watch Dave play those Nirvana bits. Just how you can tell he has moved on a little bit more and more from the loss, but how you can see it still hurts him...
He looked fine to me. Why not to you?
No words but Just fantastic as Foo Fighters are
🎸 was crying
That sir is a beast wailing!
Well done good man
El cielo ganado amigo por subir estos vídeos gracias!!
Taylor did the beat of Sunday bloody sunday ^^
i was cracking up when the did teen spirit and dave said he wanted to open with it and the crowd "would be like what?" haha. that would be funny as shit to go to a foo show and they opened with teen spirit.
+AutumnAsh81 haha Kurt would be proud. Not because they are playing that song but just because they're still making fun of that tune.
Every band always says “they have this idea” and then play a really popular song LOL

2- Paranoid
3- We will rock you

1:37 irish feel 😁 sunday bloody sunday from U2 .✌️ Nice one ✌️
Is there anyone that loved music more than Taylor? No, I don't think so.
I love that Taylor knows the drum part to teen spirt
He seemed to know the drum part to everything. He called himself the great imitator but there was none like him. He had it all. Forever missed.
Really like the way(s) Dave Grohl has whipped up and shaped the songs for the FF (special mention to T :)) - Sonic Highways is just another feather in the cap - hope they win Record of the Year (or whatever they call it) as a 'validation" for the work put in:) Thank you for sharing
look at taylor at the end of Gary Clarke Jnrs solo damn RIP
This just makes me sad now
The beginning is great but Gary Clark stole the show. Dude just came in and ripped a solo on the first take. Pat Smear gave him a SG just like that as a gift. He now plays it all the time on stage.
3:55 makes me sad. Look at Dave's face. Killed me.
I think a lot of memories comes to he´s mind in that moment.. Sad.. Kurt Forever.
Hey Dave - its your next door neighbour - its really cool and all but I got get up at 6am...
hawkins is a BEAST
why DON'T they open their shows with Smells Like Teen Spirit?
I don't think he could pull off the vocals.
Jackie robinson I doubt that. Kurt said on record that Dave was the best drummer he'd ever heard.
LOL looks like you knew them very well.
Taylor is so awesome it just takes him 1 performance
solo at 8:30 was fuckin spot on!!!
Rip Taylor and Kurt
08:26 He whispers "Its easy". Easy enough... ;)
The beginning is hilarious lol
I wish The foo fighters would do a nirvana song live.
Jackie robinson they've done Marigold which was a song Dave wrote while he was in Nirvana. They released it with him singing lead vocals on it.

Oh yeah, some Roky Erickson baby!!
What song are they playing at 10:15 ?
Rafael Almazán Roky Erickson - Two Headed Dog
Miguel Costa and why are they playing it? like a warm up?
jontxu villar no, it goes to 40th anniversary of Austin City Limits. Roky is one of most epic musician who ever play on Austin City Limits.
+Vova Shalain it is a warm up though. like fooling around. That's what bands do
They aren't playing it as a warm up...they are most likely trying to track the drums live. He's singing like that because it's just a scratch vocal( just a guide for the band to follow along). The vocals and guitars are recorded later on, separately.
i live for the nirvana parts

RIP Taylor Hawkins ❤️
Beautiful..
I like the song at the end
hahahaha Taylor's face during that solo
02:25 fav part
Jesus, there must be a huge head room on those drum mics.
Kinda bittersweet listening to Dave play nirvana songs
“Heads are gonna explode” right after they finish the intro to Smells Like Teen Spirit. 😳 🤯 😂
the intro always cracks me up.
The solo that the guy with the hat does is so much like what Aerosmith would do.

thecookymonster12 Eric Clapton - Layla
Rostási Marcell Thank you!
Whats the song at 2:25
Baby - Justin Bieber
