I apologize for the late upload! I had technical difficulties and got it up as quickly as I could! I love this movie and it was so much fun experiencing this with Sam and watching her piece this amazing love story together!
Thank you all for the support!
Are you kidding me? It's 1:23 a.m. and I screwed myself out of sleeping tonight because I took a nap between work runs, so I decide to randomly look up some reactions and somebody else mentioned erasing your memory so you can watch a movie all over again which reminded me of this movie. I looked it up and you JUST uploaded it! Amazeballs. 🙌🏻 😍
@@that.ll_do_pig Quick, look around. Is there a tape of your voice playing nearby?
I’m working night shift, so you gave me something to watch! Thanks!
As emotional as the movie was, it wasn't until your confession about your fear of losing your own memories that I actually teared up. It really touched my heart. I have a family member that is dealing with early dementia, and it's a heartbreaking thing to watch. I would hate to imagine what it's like for her. Thank you for sharing that very real fear with us. Much love to you both.
Can't watch this movie without crying. Saw it with my fiancee at the movies although we were going through a prolonged separation. Did not end well. Still love her.
I think about this film a lot. It is a masterpiece. It is a Charlie Kaufman story/movie and he is a living walking genius. He has made some truly strange films.
Cheers 🍺
This movie has always held a special place in my heart, as someone who tends to only remember the bad things, the sad things. I think the movie is very rare in showing an imperfect relationship and that alone is laudable. It's hard to put it into words but the film feels like it's recommending a conscious commitment to remembering the good times and that seems oddly hopeful.
I agree.
.
Those bad times in my life are so strong that they black out the many, many good ones.
.
I believe that writing them down (years later) is a way to remove the layers of unhappiness, and allow them to be centre stage.
.
I wish I'd kept a "Happiness" diary, where they could be fixed.
.
The memories are still waiting, maybe deep down, as Faded sepia photographs stored in an old biscuit tin.
.
I will change the sepia photos, to black& white, then colour, until they are HD quality videos.
.
Best wishes.
I think it is hopeful too 😊 somehow it’s always easier to remember the bad memories, unfortunately
@@michaelharvey1197 I thought it was just me. Really loved the writing it down idea, I guess that's something I've gotta do to remember the current good memories in the about 10 years time. Photographs would also be a great reminder of good times too
You echo my thoughts and feelings about this movie. One of my faves! :)
The irony of your bad memory regarding this movie.
Haha it’s real bad! This movie hit me a little different this time around!
Another memory-related movie : Momento
@@conureron3792 "Memento", yes, totally agree, that's a great one
@@conureron3792 I LOVE Memento so much
@@TTM9691 The movie is called "Uno Memento Por Favor"
This was: "It's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all" - The Movie.
According to IMDB, at least one version of the screenplay ends with Clementine and Joel in an endless cycle of erasures and getting back together. In the last scene, an elderly Clementine visits Dr. Mierzwiak, and the screenplay calls for the audience to see a computer screen showing "a list of fifteen dates of previous erasures stretching back fifty years, all of them involving Joel Barish." 😭 I love this movie, it's gut-wrenching.
Oh my goodness, that is even more dark! I’m glad they didn’t end it that way
That would’ve been a touch excessive.
It KINDA does at the end. It looks like everything is looped on that beach in Montauk 😭😭😭 I'm glad they didn't explicitly show the cycles bc it would've been too much. The subtly is 🤌🏽
Bipolar disorder for you
Right? I kinda felt like it just goes on and on until they’re old
The part at the end where Joel says "Okay" to Clementine gets me every time.
"You said go with such Disdain the way Jim Carrey delivers that line makes me cry his performance is absolutely incredible
Definitely Carrey's best movie,so well written and acted.
I say his best movie is the movie 23 ❤️✌️
It was so good! I can’t believe I forgot about The Truman show! Fantastic film! I haven’t seen 23
He deserved an Oscar for Man on the Moon
This movie, truman, and man on the moon imo are his best works
My favorite part of the film is when Clementine mentions the song, “My Darling Clementine” and Joel doesn’t know it, which surprises her, because they had erased every memory about anything Clementine. Also, consider the double meaning in the lyrics:
“Oh, my darling Clementine, you were lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry, Clementine.”
People freak when I tell them this is the most romantic movie I have ever seen. These two people met each other and then found out, in no uncertain terms (from THEMSELVES!) that their relationship would end very badly for both. And yet they both decide to pursue it...what could be more romantic than that?
Great movie and great reaction!
perfect love story, i completely agree with u
Yeah a romantic story doesn't have to be a successful relationship, just an important relationship. Brief Encounter and In The Mood For Love also qualify. And for this one, I don't know if they'll stay together forever but I think they won't be good partners for anyone else until they learn the lessons from this relationship and grow.
This movie always makes me cry so hard!!
I love the line. “Okay”
Same.
“How happy is the blameless vestal’s lot! The world forgetting, by
the world forgot. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each prayer
accepted, and each wish resigned.” - Alexander Pope
Despite knowing their relationship is eventually doomed, the fact that Jim Carey accepts their whole beautiful, messy, chaotic ride that is their relationship, the good and the bad. At the end of most relationships, the tendency is to focus on the bad memories and the hurt and forget or ignore the wonderful beginning and the reason you fell in love with your partner in the first place. Despite the pending doom, Jim Carey is set to enjoy the ride that is their love.
Carrey & Winslet's performances were amazing and it's great by both of them.
If your relationship is half as gentle and sweet off-screen as it is in these reactions, never let each other go and don't fuck it up.
This film is brilliant on so many levels. It's amazing to watch when you're in love, also when you're heartbroken. It's inspirational to see as a young person with fresh hopes, and also when you're older and more battle-worn. It just taps into the real, genuine, tender, nuanced core of love that we all carry within us.
Yess!!
This movie always makes me cry and I love every second of it.
24:47 "They could still meet all over again, right?"
Yes. Yes they could.
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
More like "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to loose it."
One of my favorite movies. Despite the sci-fi premise and surrealism, I think it’s perhaps the most realistic relationship ever put on screen. The fact that even the best relationships are full of good and bad- and those memories can ebb and flow. Thanks so much for watching this and sharing!
You guys are so wholesome and cute. You're seriously marriage goals. And for the record, I always wave back to Samantha after she says "hello" - can't help it.
One of my favourite movies! The scene when they’re on the couch singing Row Row Row your boat… *chefs kiss* ♥️
I've seen this a couple of times but this time around I was thinking that the traumatic experiences of his youth being deleted as he attempted to stop the procedure may somehow alter his character in such a way that he might not have the relationship issues he had to begin with
I saw this movie on a date early in the most serious relationship of my life, and it was one of the most emotionally terrifying experiences of my life. Walking home afterwards I felt so much horror about what might become of this beautiful thing... I couldn't even talk about it. I'm unsure I've ever told anybody about it until now.
Wow, yeah, that makes total sense.
Just in case anyone is still lost, they met two years ago and have erased each other more than once, but they keep finding each other again and reconnecting. Thats why the pages are ripped out of the journal and he thinks its been two years since his last entry.
Really wish this was two movies that were released independently yet told the same story.
I need this story from Clementine / Kate winslet's point of view.
Clearly she found a way to tell herself to go to Montauk as well so that she could be there to run into him. She initiated the conversation again.
So clearly there's something in her that wanted to save it as well.
This is such a good movie. Clever, original, sweet, well played. And it was such a nice change of pace to see Jim do a serius role.
Please, please, please do ´About time´. Its similar to this, but a little more straight forward (less trippy) and more romantic. I really love that movie. And i think you will too.
the title and quote that is used in this movie is really important when speaks about a closed mind that doesn't expand (spotless) and stagnates. charlie kaufman contrasts that with idea of the damage that is inflicted so you can learn, move on and improve. its funny that this seems like a throwaway line from a girl just trying to impress the doctor but it is brilliant. one of the best movies i have ever seen. each wish resigned...man, great stuff
The 'feel' of the opening 5 minutes of this film is how I feel most days. Great choice, love this movie.
Such a beautiful movie and probably my all-time favorite. Can't watch it with out crying...everytime.
Michel Gondry’s movies are really poetic masterpieces. Glad you react to this one which is, for me, a milestone in my sentimental Life.
One of my all-time favorite films, so glad you both got to react to it (and the after-reaction conversation was so awesome).
One thing that finally dawned on me - after seeing ESotSM countless times - is that Joel and Clementine are reconciling their relationship in Joel’s collapsing mind, their shared memories, throughout the film.
It’s very much like what we do when relationships end, where we exhaust ourselves with pinpointing where things went wrong, have those conversations with our exes in our mind, the “what if’s”, etc. Except that, in this film, Joel and Clem give themselves that second chance to rebuild their relationship, faults and all. It’s something we don’t often give ourselves: that second chance.
Ugh. Man….I just love this film.
Yes. "reconciling their relationship in Joel’s collapsing mind". I am reminded of James Joyce, the last chapter in Ulysses in which Molly reconciles with her husband Leopold in her mind as she falls to sleep.
This movie is an (sadly) underrated MASTERPIECE! (I consider it one of my top ten movies of all time and both Carrey and Windslet should have won oscars for their performances) The R-Rating probably didn't help it in theatres and, while some will try to blame the use of the word f*ck in it, which is frequent for sure, it is no worse than many PG-13 rated movies:The true culprit of the R-Rating is the fact that there is Marijuana smoking in the movie and that the Movie Picture Rating people are all conservative prudes who don't understand the concept of context (Always has been!)
This film has an 8.3 on IMDb, and on Rotten Tomatoes it has a 92% from critics and a 94% from audiences. That is NOT underrated. That is extremely highly rated. The term "underrated" is so rampantly misused online; people think it has something to do with how famous the film/song/whatever is.
@@Corn_Pone_Flicks this comment is underrated.
This movie IS NOT underrated in anyway, shape or form!!!
It was very successful and people love it! I’m so SICK AND TIRED of fools like yourself on RUclips wearing out the word “underrated” and always using it inappropriately and when it’s unnecessary.
I’ll say it again… this movie was Not underrated!
@@danholmesfilm do you know what is overrated?… saying “underrated!” The word “underrated” is so ridiculously overused and used inaccurately when it’s unnecessary so much that the word is dead
Showed this movie to my wife and she cried so much during the beach house scene.
One of the best movies about love (and loss) ever!
This is my favorite Jim Carrey film by far. I don’t generally like romantic movies but this one is so weird, original and has such heart.
It’s not as popular as Truman Show, but yes it was still a successful movie.
The only successful dramatic Jim Carrey movies were Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
He did other serious movies like the Majestic and Number 23, but those were flops unfortunately
This is my favorite movie, and the first time I've seen anyone react to it! Every time you watch it you get more out of it. One way you can keep track of the timeline a little is that when Joel has his brain scanned, they draw two dots on the sides of his forehead. He never washes them off, and they're still there the next morning when he wakes up.
Actually, a better way to keep track of the timeline is Clementine's hair color. Each color change represents a different stage of Clementine and Joel's relationship. Green for their first few times together, Red for the fantasy scenes, Orange for their full-on relationship, and Blue for their post-cleansing re-acquaintance.
PS: I love what TBR is saying about seeing this movie and having it hit you in a different way as you get older;I DO share your feeling! Not just about this movie, there are others that you see differently at different ages. But this is definitely one.
same!
Absolutely!
Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Synecdoche, New York definitely need to come up next - by the same writer. All are trippy like this. Anomalisa is also pretty good.
Will always be my favorite movie of all time. Blended with the memories of my own "clementine"
I love this movie. It hits me on a level that only "Inside Out" managed to do. The whole notion that beauty, pain, joy, anger and love are all connected and how it all culminates in that single "okay" at the end - it's an absolute masterpiece!
One of my all time favorite movies and so underappreciated. Carey and Winslet are absolutely amazing in these roles. Carey plays such a fantastic introvert, being one myself. For me, one of the most romantic scenes of any movie I have ever seen is the basic scene of them in her apartment, then him leaving and turning back when she says to wish her a happy valentines day when he calls. Just absolutely love it.
I remember reading somewhere that the original screen play did not have the same beginning. They later decided to edit it that way because Clementine starts off so unlikeable in the story, so they wanted us to like her, first.
I read an early version of the script and it started basically the same way.
No it’s not… this movie is not unappreciated at all. It was very successful and alot of people love it. I’m sorry that you can’t see reality and public perception
The writer of this movie, Charlie Kaufman wrote two other amazing and trippy 😉 screenplays that were made into movies I’d highly recommend too: Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. This one is my favorite , but the other two are well worth the watch.
I haven’t seen either of those! They’re on the list 😊
Whenever someone says Nicolas Cage is a bad actor, I tell them to watch Adaptation.
@@KD-xb5np he exists in a strange place where he is both a bad actor, and an amazing one. I think he takes a lot more risks then most actors would. they just don't always work out. give him the right director and he is pretty great.
@@KD-xb5np Cage clearly took a lot of roles that were just for the paycheck, many of them starting after his financial troubles began. But yeah, watch him in Raising Arizona, Wild at Heart, 8mm, Snake Eyes, Mandy, and definitely Adaptation...the guy's good.
YMS would be offended that you didn't mention Synecdoche
Thanks for the great reaction! I love how you dislike Joel and Clementine's relationship in the beginning of the movie (because it is the bad ending of their breakup) but as it goes backwards in their memories, you start rooting for them to get back together. Reminds me a bit of the structure of Memento!
Haha it was a rollercoaster! We have not seen Memento 😊
@@samantha_schmitt Memento is in my top 5 movies of all time, but I would think it would be a nightmare editing it.

@@westhomas5870 Many brilliant choices there. I believe I've seen all of them. "Internal Affairs" I assume you mean the 1990 Richard Gere film right? "No Way Out" (1987) is fantastic and very few have seen it which is a pity.
All films above are great but the one I've been waiting a long time for a reaction to is "Midnight Run" (1988). It is one of those hidden Robert DeNiro gemstones that is sadly forgotten these days.

@@stefanconradsson Hi Peter, you have great taste and yes, correct, "Internal Affairs" the Richard Gere and Andy Garcia underrated film and "No Way Out" the Kevin Costner, Gene Hackman classic but "Midnight Run" is a great one as well, just watched that on Netflix.
One of my all time favorites. Super ironic that Schmitt keeps saying he can’t remember the movie. 😁
That's not irony, that's correlation. Irony involves a contradiction, not a similarity.
One of my favorite movies .. I love the musical score how it makes you feel so uneasy at times and how choppy and jerky the dialog is fits the memory jumps. Absolutely adore this movie so much.
Finally! One of the most hearbreaking movies of all time gets the youtuber recognition it deserves!
Thanks so much for this one! This movie always gets me, always. So underrated.
Something I didn't notice until a rewatch. The "first" time Joel meets Clementine on the train he says he doesn't know any jokes or references about her name. Later we learn that this scene takes place after Joel has the procedure done. We see his memory of when he actually met Clementine for the first time and he jokes about her name and sings the "Oh my darling Clementine" song to her.
This means that the procedure not only wiped his memories of Clementine but of this song, of Huckleberry Hound, of any pop-culture item related to the name "Clementine".
Another relatively trippy film is *Vanilla Sky* (2001), with Tom Cruise, Penélope Cruz, and Cameron Diaz, directed by Cameron Crowe. 😎👍
One of my favorite movies!
"We saw the credits when the movie actually started" damn that is clever, thanks I never clicked with that aspect
Beautiful movie. It’s in my top films of all time.
I love this movie and your reactions to it! The non-linear type of storytelling was unknown to me until I saw this film. It heavily influenced my writing, because it seemingly broke the rules. I've heard other people refer to this movie as a tragedy rather than a love story, but I think they lost the point. In my opinion, it was about a couple, who obviously still loved each other, struggling to move on but unable to completely forget because of their intense connection.
Btw, don't fret about losing your memories. Write them down now. Memories and emotions are often tied together, so writing them down and reading them later gives you a way to revisit and recreate those moments, big and small. You'll be glad you did.
Thank you! That’s amazing that it influenced your own writing ❤️
If you haven't already watched, check out the film "The Majestic". Directed by Frank Darabont, and starring Jim Carrey and Laurie Holden.
One of my favorite films. So underrated.
Added to this list, thank you!

I also like that they understand most of the movies as I understand them. Rarely have i disagreed with something they concluded. And great Picks most of the Time.
OMG one of the greatest movies ever made Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind directed by Michel Gondry with amazing cast including Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood and Tom Wilkinson. Thank you TBR Schmitt for reacting this masterpiece😊👍👍👍
ALL LOVE ENDS IN HEARTACHE (or a broken heart)...for at least one of of the people in the relationship. This movie shows us that even if we understand that...LOVE is still worth it.
One of my favorite movies. I like the ending when he says "Okay" . No life is perfect but that does not mean that it's all bad.
This is such an amazing film, easily one of my favorites of all time. I'm so glad you guys covered it. I think what makes it so good is that it does show how fun falling in love is, but then goes on to show how relationships can stagnate and become negative, but reminds us that many of us would probably do the same thing just to get those initial good feelings again.
A very special person introduced me to this movie, and while i didnt understand it at first, i was somehow hooked to it. Rewatched it dozens of times and everytime discovered something new. For me there cant be a better movie than eternal sunshine. This movie redefined love for me. Taught me so much. There cant be a better love story than eternal sunshine, the titles, the quotes, the symbolism, its perfect. My most favorite movie, extremely close to my heart. Me and my special person watch it occasionally, its cathartic, raw, ethereal and extremely beautiful. Joel and Clem will always be the best couple for me. Its just perfect.
The Jon Brion soundtrack is phenomenal.
I hadn't remembered one of the last scenes, and now I've seen it again, I think this movie has an important Venn Diagram intersection with the movie Arrival.
This is one of my favorite movies ever. It killed me the first time I saw it. My husband just my boyfriend at the time had broken up with me and i called him after this…it effected me so hard that I had to tell him that I would never erase the memory of our relationship.
This movie should be on the must watch list for any movie buff.
Hi, thanks for reviewing this movie. I have a mental health condition called Dissociative Identity Disorder. This movie is the closest visualisation of what it’s like to live with this condition. Experiencing false memories, memories that seem like they belong to other people and finding myself in situations or meeting that I feel have experienced before but have no memory of, are daily occurrences for me. I loved to hear your honest and genuine description of how you felt this related to your own experiences of memory loss and personal fears, and Samantha’s response to you was a beautiful display of true and heartfelt empathy. You will never fully know how much watching you watch this film has helped me. Take care both.
As someone in my mid 60's I'd say that you shouldn't worry about losing your long term memory. I can still remember things from 50-60 years ago. The problem as you get older is remembering what you did yesterday?
(hopefully I remember that I commented here otherwise I might comment again in an hours time!)
TBR: “… Whut..? I don’t remember any of this..”
*Me, trying to figure out if TBR is trying to pull off the most meta-referential gaslight on Sam and us*: ……
In any case, this film is *fantastic* and one of my favorites. For me, the conclusion is that, however much we think we'll be better off by erasing our bad memories, we really aren't. For one, they come with all the good memories too because that is life. More importantly, even if we could erase them, there's something left within us that would just end up repeating the same mistakes, whether it was with the same partner or if it were a different one. Erasing the bad just ends up being avoidance. Joel and Clem still fall back into their relationship. Mary still falls for Howard again. Because they tried to run away to avoid having to deal with what went wrong and their own roles in what happened. Rarely do we get to see so many deeply important life lessons conveyed and depicted in a single film, and so visually and vividly.
Personally, I think viewing couples as either being meant to be together or meant not to be isn't that helpful way to think about relationships. (Like, meant to by whom?) Whether a relationship works out or not is so, so much more down to the people themselves and what they put into it and keep choosing to put into it. And ultimately the most precious thing from those relationships *are* one's memories. Because, in the end, everything else tangible about the relationships, the other person who's the partner, objects, and even kids (not to knock kids in any way), can be lost, but your memories are always what you're left with. And this movie shows quite amazingly, I think, exactly what would happen if people had this power, this technology, to do this kind of thing. So, what *I* get out of this film is that memories are precious. You shouldn't be willing to throw them away because those are what you did, and if you managed to throw them away, you'd really just end up having to go through it again just in some other variation if not the same way.
Absolutely.
surprised there are not more Carrey reactions, even his talk and award show appearances are funny
A wonderful pick. This is a deeply profound and very overlooked film. Jim Carrey's need to protect his core memory of her was beautiful.
I had to laugh, when this hit the schedule, I thought 'Oh a rare reaction to something I haven't seen on the channel', except it turned out I have it in my collection and had rated it 9/10 on IMDb, so I obviously had also seen it and loved it but blanked it from my mind. Oh and I also don't remember most of my childhood to around age 35, just bits and pieces pop back in my mind, but as long as you got people around to remind you of things, it helps and even amuses when you find out you did something very funny but don't recall it at all and the reminder becomes the new memory of it.
What a film, Gondry was such a creative force back then
A lovely and thought-provoking discussion of my favorite movie of all time. Thank you.
Great reaction :) Found it interesting to see this movie watched together as a couple, when I watched this solo for the first time it was a rollercoaster ride of happy/sad emotions and to this day it has a lasting effect on me. keep up the great content, always a pleasure to see a new upload from your channel in my recommendations :)
Thank you so much!
You guys picked an awesome movie. Michel Gondry's ESSofTSM.
One reviewer called this "a perfect film", and I agree. I think this is the most accurate portrayal of the arc of a love affair. I don't know about anyone else, but the erased affair between Mierzwiak and Mary gob smacked me. The clues were all there, but I didn't see it coming! I, too, always tear up at the ending. I like to think that they may have learned something about their own failings, and that they have a better chance this time. Or, even if they are doomed from the start, the good times make it worth the bad. If there's amoral, that may be it.
Undoubtedly Jim Carrey's best work, possibly Kate Winslet's. Gondry's other work is also fascinating, but I like this one best. But Charlie Kaufman is a bona fide genius. No one is capable of writing like him. Others have mentioned Malkovitch and Adaptation, but Synecdoche New York is stunning. It was written AND directed by Kaufman, and is undoubtedly Philip Seymour Hoffman's best work. But beware, one New York reviewer said he watched the film and then spent the rest of the night alone in a bar getting drunk.
One of my top 3 favorite movies. so under-appreciated and under-rated and unpopular compared to what it deserves. Thanks so much for doing it!
I watched this when I was 18 when it came out and watching it in my mid thirties is way more relatable lol
Wow TBR, you went really deep with that Alzheimers connection! I wonder if the filmmakers made that parallel on purpose. Hopefully a real-world Lacuna will find a cure to Alzheimers. Or that could be a good idea for a sequel...Lacuna reopens claiming they have a cure for Alzheimers, but are planting false memories. Such an Orwellian rabbit hole to go down 😮
I think this is one of the most favourtites movies in my life, even though I haven't seen it for years (over 12 years already, I think). And you both said about "Fight Club" in the context of our life memories and stuff.. It is so interesting, because these two movies have strange connection for me and I seen them both in the same period of my life, back in the day, years ago..
I love you and your genuine reactions more and more..
And especially here ! When Samantha said with smile ".. it's sad.." while touching TBR's arm and you both FELT that realistic and existencional questions about whole our lifes. And i was into laugh and smile too in that moment! Exactly because all of these questions and things about your memories are so important for our existence..
You are pure, intelligent and lucky in same time, because you both can share with each other all of this.
Thaank you.. )
What a sweet comment! Thank you so much ❤️
This is one of my favorite movies❤️ Loved your reaction!
I'm a very nostalgic person, so that's why I think this film is definitely one of my top 10 favorite movies.
One of my favorite movies! Unique. Honest. Tender. Awesome actors.
Sam: "I'm so lost!"
me: Don't worry Sam. Someone gave this movie to me a s a gift and so was I the first time I watched it. So I turned it on again to see if I missed something and after the first 10 minutes, it all made sense.
I see that you had To Live and Die in LA in your poll, which prompts me to point out a basic drawback to polls: films that have been seen by a lot of people, popular films, have a huge advantage over films that should be seen. I would recommend seeing To Live and Die in LA as a Willem Dafoe double feature with his film that came out the year before, Streets on Fire (in which you can learn how to play the game Lights Out).
This poll was a patrons wonderful idea, we made this requested poll with the intention of including no major blockbusters (of course we haven’t seen them, so that was to the best of our knowledge). We hope to get to them all!
The best movie ever for couple's who've been together for a long time.
you guys are on a roll! another one of my favorite films.. cheers!

“I don’t wanna do this anymore I wanna call it off!!!!!” Still one of my favorite movies ever.
One question and reply explained why this movie hits so hard.
Jim Carrey was on Inside the Actor when an audience member told him that he has watched Ace Ventura over 100 times and Eternal Sunshine only once because it messed him up so much. Jim replies with, "So you've been in love." and the audience member says, "I have... I am."
I love the beck change your heart song too a lot because of this movie. I actually had a version of the song already by "laidback luke" i love both versions lol
My interpretation of the movie is that love or attraction is not just a thought or in your head, it's your body and entire being that attracts someone which is just way more than aesthetic appeal.
Another mostly serious role for Carrey is "The Truman Show". Granted, a little bit of classic Jim bleeds through. Nonetheless a very profound movie that I take to be a larger commentary on the institutions that control our life.
One of my top ten movies of all time! The takeaway here for me is no matter how much you try to 'erase' or forget the heart still wants what the heart wants. Hence them reconnecting at the beginning/end of the movie.
You guys are really great! Knowledgeable and smart. I love your interactions; the respect; the way you always listen to each other. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a true masterpiece, but the second place in your poll is the real deal. MULHOLLAND DRIVE is constantly voted as number 1 or 2 (together with In the Mood for Love) as the greatest film of the new millennium. Please watch David Lynch's masterpiece.
One of the movies that get better when you see it multiple times, because there are so many things you notice, that you didnt the first time.
This movie is one of my favourites. This came out right after I left a pretty big relationship . Just cried like a baby. Lol
One of my favorite movies. Thank you for the wonderful reaction!
i loved this movie , it was the first jim carey "non com" i had seen and def proved he had acting chops
This must have been VERY hard to edit down since the movie itself is like looking at an edited-down movie, with short glimpses of scenes! On top of that, many reactors have had blackouts and problems this week, so I hope your technical difficulties didn't involve no electricity in sweltering heat! Loved this reaction to this beautiful, trippy movie; I haven't seen this in a few years and it brought back memories of my own ex, including seeing this movie together, lol. One of my favorite movies of the century, so far, and also one of my favorite uses of CGI technology. Also, so quick after "A Clockwork Orange", it's cool to have another kind of similarly trippy movie, but with a romantic slant. Thanks TBR & Sam!
One of my favorite films, love the directing style. You guys should check out "The Truman Show" as well. It also stars Jim Carrey.
