    Another important aspect of this tip, call it tip adjacent, is that your DPS in first tab is not always indicative of skill based damage. So, for example, my DPS might be 360 but my skill damage (if I put it on the right mouse button) might be much higher or lower dependent on my gear and other considerations. Because that DPS number tends to reflect the amount of damage you are doing when swinging or firing a weapon and doesn't necessarily take into account direct damage skills. I don't know if I explained that super well but basically always check you direct damage from skills on right mouse button and don't rely on what the DPS is telling you that you are doing especially if you are a caster or pet build.

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  2 года назад +3

      Yeah that’s spot on.
      Unless you’re focussing your build on weapon damage, the DPS value the game shows you can pretty much be ignored as you’re going to need to be looking at skill damage.
      Also, hovering over the skill in the skill bar won’t show you the damage after conversions and other stuff has been applied - the only place you will see that is on tab 2 with the skill assigned to RMB (assuming it can’t be assigned to LMB).

      eye of reckoning with a fire build is like that. damage it doesnt show is actually higher than the "DPS" number

    If you hold control, it shows you that number without augments and components

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  2 года назад +6

      That's only weapon/offhand though.

    • @turntsnaco824
      @turntsnaco824 2 года назад

      That still doesn't account for +Skill attributes though. Yes it will compare each weapon in a vacuum, but if you're swapping out a weapon with +2 or +3 to one of your main skills, for one without, the only way to be sure which weapon leaves you with the most damage/DPS is to check the numbers in the character window.
      The hold control to hide augments and components trick is only very situationally useful, arguably most useful to quickly compare two of the same item, one with components and one without, since you know nothing else except its base stats will change.

    Thank you for this tip! What is your thought on showing average damage, compared to lower - upper damage figures? As a beginner (50 hours or so) this game just has too many damn numbers in it. Is it useful to show the average number instead?

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  Месяц назад +1

      My honest opinion on this is that all I want to know is whether the damage numbers go up (or down) when I swap a piece of gear. It could be one number, ten numbers, an average number, I don't really care as long as I can see those numbers going up.
      And, yes, I absolutely agree that much of the game is way more complex and confusing than it needs to be. This is why I consider this tip to be so useful, because all you need to do is watch the damage numbers on tab 2 change when you swap gear, you don't even need to understand why the numbers go up (or down) just that you can see that they do.

    I was just thinking that every weapon already shows the damage difference, and it's nice, but not the rest of the gear. So yeah, you have to resort to that second tab.
    Also weird thing is that left click move has namelocking on it for some reason. So once you move on top of the monster, it gets selected, and you get stuck in it. I would assume that leftclick move would have the opposite intention of moving ignoring everything, like in PoE, but it doesn't work that way.
    That's just some weird things I discovered on my third day of playing Grim Dawn.

    Currently envious of that 120% attack speed since mine is sitting on 84% (level 25 primal strike elementalist)... I have no idea how, didn't even know that was possible. Good tip btw, I always use that to check for my main non weapon damage, right mouse button to check, even though I am using a controller to play.

      Attack speed is crucial for activating celestial powers. You can type: "Attack speed" or "Total speed in the Devotion Tree, to find constellations with those attributes. Also, attack speed tops out at 200%. Cheers!

    My issu is to compare new stuff with my currently gear augmented and with components. How do I know if a ring or a belt is worth ?

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  Год назад

      Yeah, this might need a bit of mental arithmetic if the components and/or augments buff your damage. If the components are easy/inexpensive to craft, just put them on the new item(s) and compare - even easier with augments which are generally inexpensive.

      This is for people who look at the skill on the skill bar and believe the numbers there are representative of the damage that skill does. They are not. For the actual numbers, tab 2 is what you need. Not maths as such, just two different sources of what appears to be the same information. But is not.
