Something I love about this track I noticed when I started playing RoR1 The teleporter timer is 90 seconds in Drizzle and Rainstorm but in Monsoon it's 120 seconds. CONVENIENTLY, the hardest part of this song starts exactly 90 seconds (1:30) in so that it really amplified the idea that the last 30 seconds left to the teleporter event on a Monsoon run, you are fighting for your fucking life Edit: Really hope this piece gets added to RoR2 somehow someway like what happened with the Sky Meadows stage Easily one of the best tracks from the original game and in the series as a whole, very byotiful stuffs
A lot of the songs seem to be designed specifically around the timing of the teleporter, and a lot of the teleporter ending stings happen in the music right when the teleporter ends

Man, I love the way this one keeps rising up. It’s very inspiring. At the beginning it sounds like, “Oh no, you’re really tiny and it looks like you’re gonna die.” And then when those first new keys hit, it’s like someone calling to you, “No way, you can do it!”, and as the song keeps progressing it’s like more and more voices are shouting out to you, cheering you on. And then there’s that bit towards the middle-end where it sounds like you might be defeated for real, and then it picks up again. You can do it. Keep going. Don’t give up. I legit teared up hearing this for the first time with headphones on, I love it so much. Your music can affect people outside the game it was made for too, and that’s real talent.

Awesome. The game has an incredible sound track in every single part. This one and Monsoon are my personal favourites. Really great music. Please keep up the good work! It works fantastic for the game too!
Someone once described this OST as "the music of an illegal underground rave DJed by Enya" and I think that description is apt. Beautiful, dark, urgent and chaotic at times. This is one of my favorite OSTs of all time (and one of my favorite songs in the game)

There is something especially desperate about the tone of this track, hits hard pre-god mid run IMO. Would be a killer addition to RoR2's ost as a 'Surface Tension 2' much like the f*ing miracle work that is "...con lentitud poderosa"
Dude, when I passed Fear solo, in Sublevel 5 a Pop-up appeared in my face, I'm already familiar with this situation where Pop-ups appear, but in this specific one when I canceled the Pop-up I was seeing the last digit of the sublevel 6 code in milliseconds, but even so I managed to see the number, I passed the level, I did the code for sublevel 6 without any problems and I passed Fear, how beautiful
Man listening to this song puts a smile to my face. I tried out this game solely because of much people were praising the OST, and these tracks makes the already good game amazing! Great work, can't wait to hear what you come up with next.

Now I know that a 7 can casually be slapped onto a 5 :P (don't know the proper music lingo, but a 7-beat on a 5-beat) thanks for the tip. Love this album

Just had my first epic moment in Risk of Rain. Im playing as Enforcer, get to a point where Im satisfied with how he's geared up so I go and activate the teleporter...and two Magma Worms spawn at once. There are 5 jellyfish chasing me along with all the other monsters on the ground. I flee, turning to chuck a grenade at them every now and then as my two drones fire away at the worms and enemies. after a 10 minute battle, I finally manage to take both of them down with only 80 health remaining.
I once beat a double jellyfish with 7 health remaining. But alas, the enemy missiles annihilated me immediately afterwards. Out of curiosity, who do you think is the best character for you?
After so many years of loving Risk of Rain's soundtrack, Surface Tension is still my absolute favorite ! I really hope it'll come back in RoR Returns, that'd be absolutely fantastic
This song... it's amazing. It makes me feel INTENSE GUILT during the "*__ enemies left" part. What a classic. I actually feel like this is the player's boss theme as the enemies realize what's going to occur.
Decided to buy the first risk of rain as it was on sale. I've had a ton of fun with risk of rain 2 and the soundtrack was phenomenal. Needless to say this did not disappoint. Well done!
Hello Chris, I listened to your album commentary for the first ROR and I am about to listen to the album commentary for ROR2. Even if you say this one is your least favorite song, I adore it. I discovered this game when I was 10 years old. A friend of my brother was a big fan of indie game like FTL (faster than light), the biding of Isaac and of course, Risk of Rain. When I played this game and I begun the teleporter event with this music kicking in and I saw the overloading magma, my mind was like WOW. Then, I remember when I saw a prototype of ROR2. I was amazed of how it grew. And now, look at all the fandom and amazing content it created… I cannot thank the Hopoo team enough for this childhood game. And I also thank you… Chris… for bringing this game to life with your music. From Canada, much love.
You did an amazing work Chris, keep it up ! I love Risk of Rain, it's one of my favourite roguelike, and the OST is incredible, especially Surface Tension, Monsoon and Chanson d'Automne !

This is my favorite soundtrack from Risk of Rain. Couldn't say why, it just is.
this music is so perfect I don't want anyone to know about it..
Chris Christodoulou Ever since I bought the game a few days ago, I've been nagging everyone to check this album out. Great work!
Welp, tens of millions of people have heard his compositions now
There is something especially desperate about the tone of this track, hits hard pre-god mid run IMO.
Would be a killer addition to RoR2's ost as a 'Surface Tension 2' much like the f*ing miracle work that is "...con lentitud poderosa"
2:33 Is the best part to me. This game is still super fun to play in 2018. Hoping that risk of rain 2 will be just as good!
Yes.
I hope Risk Of Rain Returns is good!
@@paddeux We're going to find out really soon!
2013: omg cool game 2023: BRO I WASN'T LOOKING FOR THE CODE, WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO BEAT THIS ALL OVER AGAIN!

I love Risk of Rain so much, (can't say it about second RoR) this game give me huge feels of loneliness, anxiety and atmosphere of this alone world without any humans more, but with monsters, which trying to kill you. Excellent work Chris.
How dare you not like this banger of a song? I think it's great :)
Oddly enough, this fills me with much hope.
those 7:5 tuplets tho
Right? :)
Eh? Where's 5?
@@DarkEspeon40K main beat is in 5/4 (
*_1_* *_&_* *_2_* *_&_* 3 *_&_* *_4_* & *_5_* &
where you only play the bolded notes, xylophoney thingy on top plays 7 notes)
fuck someone beat me to this lmaoooo
It might be weird to just me, but I can completely see this being some late nineties arcade game shit. It just has that intoxicating mixture of simplicity and complexity to it, you know?
Well, on top of it being an irresistibly intense song as well.
It's definitely a late 90s throwback track so I could see it too :)
Now I know that a 7 can casually be slapped onto a 5 :P (don't know the proper music lingo, but a 7-beat on a 5-beat) thanks for the tip. Love this album
Emil Rönnlund Nice! Yeah, "proper" lingo is simply 7 over 5, nothing too technical :) So happy you noticed and enjoyed!
I didn’t even know such an amazing song like this was out there I definitely liked and subscribed now this is literally the best song I seen no exaggeration by the way
You see you look back and see, him. You can’t hide. But you can run. I will not stop running. THIS IS IT
STOP RUNNING.
One of the best songs ever made
Despite everything it’s still- AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING SONG
Just had my first epic moment in Risk of Rain. Im playing as Enforcer, get to a point where Im satisfied with how he's geared up so I go and activate the teleporter...and two Magma Worms spawn at once. There are 5 jellyfish chasing me along with all the other monsters on the ground. I flee, turning to chuck a grenade at them every now and then as my two drones fire away at the worms and enemies. after a 10 minute battle, I finally manage to take both of them down with only 80 health remaining.
This is one of the few games the deserves its "Hardcore" tag. Its so good though! the OST also makes me keep replaying after I die.
I once beat a double jellyfish with 7 health remaining. But alas, the enemy missiles annihilated me immediately afterwards.
Out of curiosity, who do you think is the best character for you?
All of the characters are super interesting and varied, but the one I do best with is the bandit.
I bought this game a few days ago and fell in love instantly. Not a lot of games can do that with me and the music definitely contributed to that!!!
El Rey Bribón Glad to hear it!
This was and still is pretty epic
So excited to see this one in the remake. Definitely one of my top picks
After so many years of loving Risk of Rain's soundtrack, Surface Tension is still my absolute favorite !
I really hope it'll come back in RoR Returns, that'd be absolutely fantastic
Eerie music starts playing...
WANDERING VAGRANT
too much chef-d'oeuvre s for one game, i cant stop playing it and listening to your music
Best SoundTrack in the entire game!It really fits into the boss battles in risk of rain. Other favourite is Monsoon, which is also awesome! :D
*I CANT EVEN TELL WHAT'S CHASING ME ANYMORE IT'S ALL PARTICLE EFFECTS AND DEATH WAILS HELP ME*
How the hell do you drum in 5/4 rhythm Chris you're an absolute legend.
Well done!
Hello Chris,
I listened to your album commentary for the first ROR and I am about to listen to the album commentary for ROR2.
And now, look at all the fandom and amazing content it created…
I cannot thank the Hopoo team enough for this childhood game.
And I also thank you… Chris… for bringing this game to life with your music.
From Canada, much love.
listening to ror1 soundtracks at 10 pm, eating clam chowder and tons of assignments on my desk
tis the good life
Why is this so good
I bought the game because i listened this in some walkthrough video and like it.
Love this track
Perfect .
2019 and still listening to this masterpiece.
Yep, still listening to it
Favorite song on the OST :D
Almost a decade since Chris² (I can't spell his surname, Chris Chris is the best I can do) released this banger ost, still making bangers tho
You did an amazing work Chris, keep it up !
I love Risk of Rain, it's one of my favourite roguelike, and the OST is incredible, especially Surface Tension, Monsoon and Chanson d'Automne !
Chris Christodoulou hey your profile picture is astro boy right? I think that's the show's name
reminds me of Pinocchio kinda
jehad nafea the show is kinda pinocchio in the future. :)
I absolutely hated fighting the Wondering Vagrant the first few times around but this song made it oh so worth it.
