There are some really great games on this list and it brings back a lot of memories. Phantasy Star is one of my favorite games of all time and is one of the games that had the greatest impact on getting me really into gaming. It really blew my mind when I first saw it in the 80s and I was fascinated by the large enemies that included skeletons, vampires, were-bats, demons, undead, aliens, robots, and winged eyeballs. That there was an entire optional dungeon that was a morgue filled with zombies really stood out to me and it made me eager to discover all of the game's secrets. Another aspect of Phantasy Star that pulled me in was the challenge, it is very easy to die in the game if you are not careful and dungeons are filled with traps, hidden doors, and NPCs who might help you or who might lie to lure you into danger. That there were also dialogue options in combat where you could negotiate your way out of conflict or get information or items instead of fighting also really impressed me by just how much you could do in the game. Phantasy Star is the game that solidified my love of RPGs and made me an even more enthusiastic gamer in general. Kenseiden is an excellent game and is another must-play on the Master System. It is also a game that could be used as a textbook example of the term retro hard, but it is worth learning how to play well. I agree that calling Master of Darkness a Castlevania clone is a disservice to it in a way. While it does fit that description, the game is also very good on its own merits and is another of my favorites on the Master System. I think it would be really interesting if Sega were to revive Master of Darkness, especially if they took it in a metroidvania direction. Spellcaster is also very interesting and I would also recommend the Genesis game Mystic Defender that is also based upon the same source material. Peacock King is an interesting dark fantasy / horror series and there were some anime OVA adaptations of it from the 90s that are also worth watching. The series creator Makoto Ogino also created the characters and story for an action RPG called King Colossus the was released in Japan for the Mega Drive that is also worth playing and there is also an English patch available for the game. Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Alien Syndrome, and Ghost House can also be a lot of fun.
Never in my entire life I would have imagined that I'd find El Chapulín Colorado in, first, a list of SMS games, and second, in a list of the spookiest ones. I was so happy I bursted laughing. Thank you so much!
It's always great to see some Master System love, as it is easily one of the most underappreciated consoles of all time. Sadly it came up against the juggernaut that was the NES, and while I owned both, I always rooted most for the MS, as it was easily the underdog of the 8-bit generation.
These videos are so rewatchable! i love the educational aspect, so besides watching so many games in pristine quality, you learn things too 🙂 thank you
Good God, just hearing that intro melody of Ghouls & Ghosts is enough to trigger my PTSD. That game was such an enjoyable pain. And, BTW, I had no idea that it got ported on SMS until now so I guess I learned something new today. 👍
Master of Darkness is best horror game on Master System. All the others pale, except for Alien 3, which has a notable technical detail, with double scrolling, something rarely seen in 8 bits, and which was seen in other games such as Shatterhand and DJ Boy on Nintendo Nes.
All my friends back in the 1980s and 90s insisted that the NES 8-bit Nintendo had better graphics and replay value. However, I always stuck up for the 8-bit Sega Master System. It was underrated and a much better console. At least you didn't have to blow in the games 50 times just to get it working. I liked the Top Loader for Sega a lot better than Nintendo's front loader.
Un juego de Sega del chapulín colorado 😲 Nunca me lo hubiera imaginado. Sega ha de ver dicho... Y ahora, quien podrá ayudarnos? Yooooo, el chapulín colorado 😁 Gracias por este top 🙂
Sega master system was my 2nd console whem i was a kid, and the entirely time we only play 2 games on it. Pro wrestling and Hang On. Because no one ever had SMS in my town, no one to trade or borrow cartridge 😢unlike NES. I found out SMS game was graphically and sound better than NES. Too bad, they can't compete with nintendo because Mario

And a romhack made by Brazilians... and validated by SEGA. Life has incredible things
Halloween comes to Bits&Beats in 8-bit fashion 🎃 Have a great night! 🦇
Same to you🤩👻Hope you don't mind if I'm watching tonight the new chapter of the "Masterchef" TV show😜😜

Good list. Ghostbusters and Spellcaster are some of my favorites from the Master System era.

The spookiest moment in a Master System game has to be fighting the "Saccubus (Succubus)" during Alis' dream in Phantasy Star.
Chapolin had his own game...did not expect that
In Spanish it's Chapulin, I think the portoguese pronounce it as chapolim. Idk I could a wrong.

Awesome as always many thanks dude happy Halloween 🎃
Happy Halloween!!
The best RUclips channel for vintage video games
Finally! Ghost House gets some recognition. Loved that game as a kid. I still have this game on The Sega Card.
I always found Captain Silver to be a bit creepy and unsettling for some reason. I think it might fit this list as well.
Chapolin is a Brazilian game, we love chapolin and Chaves.
Back then I was amazed by the "faked" parallax scrolling in Alien 3. A quite hard but good game - and I never beat the queen...
The opening of the Shadow of the Beast nearly made me fall off from my seat when I first played that.
Bram Stoker's Dracula My favorite game of Halloween horror game
8:04 El chapulin colorado XD

3:00.....ok thats just the revenge of shinobi
2 hours to complete Spellcaster, good luck with that, I've been trying to complete it for 30 years.
I knew Spellcaster looked familiar. It had a sequel called Mystic Defender on the Megadrive/Genesis.
Happy Halloween, B&B!

Vaya, no esperaba encontrarme al Chapulín en este top, xD.
The scariest thing has to be the sound chip 😬
Master System Forever =)
One missing game, the port of Space Gun.
Un juego de Sega del chapulín colorado 😲
Nunca me lo hubiera imaginado. Sega ha de ver dicho... Y ahora, quien podrá ayudarnos?
Yooooo, el chapulín colorado 😁
Gracias por este top 🙂
Happy Halloween!!
Cool top, but Master of Darkness was first released in 1992, not 1991
Hail the 80s
A couple of these feel like a stretch, and one of them is just a reskin of a game already on the list.
2:34
100% recommended
