Yeah, highly unrealistic though for two reasons: one, people are rarely ever stopped by a single shot from a handgun unless it severs the brain stem/spinal cord/destroys the brain itself; and two, because cops almost always fire multiple rounds at an assailant for the above stated reason as well as because they're under a massive adrenaline dump.

One of the best advantages to weaver is its simplicity when using cover, easy to use in almost all situations without training in different or specific cover shooting stances.
Apparently the only reason he made it was because he was actually having shoulder problems at the time and needed extra support for that reason. Really interesting!

I just naturally go with the weaver stance. Didn’t know there was an official name for it until a few years ago. Seems to be the most natural stance for moving and defense at close range.
If you have any martial arts experience the foot and shoulder placement probably felt most familiar to you. Many styles like Karate or Taekwondo have similar stances. Boxing is the only style whose guard more resembles the classic isosceles stance.
@Cherry Soda exactly I'm white, my dad's a drug dealer and my granddad was a pedophile. But if they were black, they would be just as capable of doing the same crimes, and that's the sort of equality we should be fighting for.
My firearms instructor hated people doing this. He'd yell "WEAVER IS DEAD, GET THAT FOOT BACK YOU BASTARDS" Learned to shoot square to keep my vest wode and shoot with my body not my arm.
For civilians who usually aren't wearing body armor though - it's a fantastic stance. More natural with better balance than Isocoles. It also tends to make you instinctively lean forwards a little, which is good because a lot of beginners lean backwards away from the gun which is awful. Though when not wearing armor there's solid argument that for pistols a one handed inline stance is best as it presents the smallest profile.
@@matthewblackwood9653 I hate when people criticize each other for shooting weaver/modified weaver. @@rogermcbadlad2812 you’re 100% right, people think weaver is dangerous because you expose yourself, well it doesn’t really matter if you’re good at shooting in that position
While usually modified today for much more squared stance and standing up straighter to account for body armor, this is still the most common handgun technique taught today
When I was a kid, we rented an old farmhouse to a deputy sheriff. Out in the pasture behind the house was a big washout that formed a natural backstop, and a lot of the deputies came out to shoot. I was in & out of there twice a day checking cattle and got invited to shoot with them often. Developed a keen interest in S&W wheel guns and got some damn good training before I was 16!
Almost universally not taught anymore. Around 2005 the isosceles stance really took off and is by far the most widely used pistol stance instructed today.
No. Weaver or Isosceles are the top tier. Having your feet apart, one foot in front of the other is a far more stable and athletic stance more conducive to tactical operation. Isosceles beats out weaver, though, with the lockout of the support arm for greater stability.
Weaver was developed before body armor was something readily available and used widely by law enforcement, so having your body at an angle decreases the size of your silhouette. Isosceles is more popular now since it points the chest fully forward so that your body armor can have the largest area of coverage on your silhouette.
Those who shoot IPSC today have left that style and switched to the box style, then you keep your feet in the same place even if you need to change targets to the right or left.
It's definitely not lmao. Using weaver stance with body armor means you're now presenting an un-armored path to the heart right in front of your target.
That head shot was nasty. But yeah i mainly use a weaver stance. When i went to get my Concealed permit. The instructor made me shoot in that "bow legged 1970s" still of shooting. I felt like i was about to fall over the whole time. I had no support if i had a force pushing me from the front. I have no idea how anyone can shoot like that accurately
In an ideal scenario, it works great. The old style doesn't really account for things like being charged at or having multiple targets, both of which are pretty common in real life.
I remember watching some crime show about bank robberies, and in one case the robber was doing his own style of the Weaver stance, and that led them to believe the robber was an officer at one point in his life abd they ended up being right. That left them to catching the robber i forgot how they caught him from there but google could probably help if your curious.
This is my stance. My SGT tried to train me differently because if I'm standing slightly sideways my armor couldn't protect me. I'm pretty fast standing Weaver though.
