Yes jacking it up would be the best solution. How are you going to install the joists higher? They should already be at the top of the rim joist the problem is most likely from settling and maybe not great building in the first place but leveling the joists and having level foundation is the only way. Anything else is just a band aid or a work around

Definitely not. If the ceiling is level, jacking it up will knock it out.

@FullSteamDesigns the walls are built off the floor and the ceiling off the walls. If the floors aren't level nothing is. Need to fix the foundation first. And if someone cheated to make the ceiling level after the fact then oh well it'll still be better to have a floor that is actually level and actually right. Plus it would be way easier to pull of drywall and level a ceiling afterwards if you can even notice it and want to do it

@@JK31201 the ceiling is perfectly level

@FullSteamDesigns then either it was cheated to get level or where you need to jack up sag won't effect it much if it just needs jacked up in a spot or two that's sagging. But you do you, not here to argue with you, just offering some insight and hopefully you will consider it or at least do some research. It is the best option but you do whatever you think is best

@@JK31201 it’s not the best option if the house was built like this. The best option is what I’m planning to do.

My husband's house is 225 years old. Come and fix it up, he's lagging and it's falling into a state of disrepair😢 Good job- look forward to seeing the end project. Hopefully learn a thing or two from your work!

You could’ve just jacked it up and put another footer underneath the certain section that’s low

      That’s definitely not the solution.

They make actual house jacks that you jack up and leave. We used them a couple of years ago on a house that had some horrible sagging from the floor to the ceiling. We did sister some joists to the old ones but it's sitting level to this day. That was about 3 years ago.
