+jvs81 unfortunately I sold my 510 you can follow me on Instagram @savantyoung I have some pictures there.... It was a sad day but I just started another business and needed capital 😕
Awesome! I remember to this day riding home with my dad from buying his '73 RX-3. 8 years later, I got to drive it frequently in my senior year of college. The torque was impressive. I loved accelerating in 2nd and 3rd. Unfortunately, our NJ winters did that car's body in in 10 years. A corner seal dislodged and seized the engine, which was fortunate because I got to tear it down and rebuild and appreciate the design. I carried the motor into our house by hand, and I was like "this is simplicity". Very nice job on your car.
+Motorcar Collector The rim sticking out past the tire is disgusting, but I understand it is an appropriate aesthetic for this era car. Everything else about it is outstanding though.
I went to high school in Japan from 79 - 82 and this car (known as a Savanna RX-3) over there was our Camaro/Firebird. EVERYONE had these cars because they were the biggest bank for the buck car you could get from a performance/handling/styling perspective. This car accurately represents what I fondly remember as my teenage Far East muscle car era. Thanks for sharing.
This is the best modified RX3 I have ever seen. It will still look great 20 years from now, classic good looks, nice stance, nothing over the top, and that unique rotary sound. This is what a hobby car should be, a street driver, and an extension of the owner.
I fell in love with this car when I saw it first on Jay Leno's' Garage. I live in Puerto Rico, where old RX's are well embedded into the car culture, but I've never seen such a fine example of an RX3. Thank you for this second video, Sir.
I remember the early 90's. I had a 1969 Ford Maverick I slapped and built a Hipo 289 engine. I use to go street racing in the valley and my car was extremely fast for a small block Ford cause I had put so much on the drive train. I had it premiered dark grey so it looked like crap however if u paid close attention and u knew engines you would appreciate all the work I had done. I had no problem witch racing practically anyone except one night a little RX2 just like this one wanted to race me and I tell u! When we came off the line I came out so fast that I thought I had Tia little car but somehow I heard the buzzing sound of the rotary engine hauling ass and when I almost made it to the 1/4 mile this little beast passed and beat me! I just could not believe what just had happened so I ran it again and he did the same thing...he passed me and beat me. Ever since then I have the outmost respect for these little Monsters. Beautiful car man! My respect to u on such an amazing job.
I don't understand how anyone can dislike this video. Subtle cosmetic mods, rotary engine still in, turbo, beautiful shots, cool dude. Must just be the haters.
That’s why I’ve always had a lot of respect for the celebrities that are genuine car enthusiasts; the people that spend a good part of their off time, building, driving, collecting and racing automobiles. A few names that come to mind are Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfield, Adam Carolla and Patrick Dempsey. For all of them, cars represent something more than just a way to spend their earnings.
Bravo Mr. Young ... sick car. 2,000 pounds with 400HP OMG you must blind sidea whole lotta ppl on the highway looool ... Props to the Petrolicious Team keep the hits coming guys!
Wow. this is just another Level. This mx3 got so much character! I love the gtrs, brz with rocket bunny kits, beaten up japanese drift cars but THIS is what perfection looks like! I love the details, color and rims and the rotary of course. much respect dude!
money, headache, heartache, parts that dont fit, or they break. well said for all of us , my friend. I got passed by a few of these guys when I raced in SCCA a few years back. Loud, and fast!
I thought it was a re-upload until I saw the comments about Jay-Lenos garage, still watched every second of the video, great car and owner! Loved the analogy about the turbo kicking peoples asses :)
My dad had one of these, stock of course. I got my first driver's license in that car. It wasn't the fastest but it sure as hell was fun to drive! I have super fond memories of that car! Thanks for saving one!
It's also the best sounding rotary I've ever heard. I bought a '73 RX3 wagon new, and that "innocent" little booger just pissed off a bunch of my friends with Mustangs, Cameros, and a 340 Duster. It never had a lot of torque down low but it just rev'ed forever, for 1973. The tuners of that time said you could run to about 8500 rpm with a stock engine if you cleaned up the breathing a bit, but to run higher than that it needed a case hardened reduction gear on the rotor or the gear would shed teeth and make lots of ugly noises!! The drag racers had quite a bit of success in the mid-70's with them. All of the rotarys that I've seen with after-market exhaust systems (they were very common in SCCA racing when I worked on the crash truck...) just made an awful, piercing noise like a chainsaw run amuck! Savant's turbo and the muffler he has chosen give him a totally different exhaust note... very nice.
I had the opportunity to see this car at JCCS last year. Beautiful example of a Mazda RX-3 I also just love seeing the same car on Jay Leno's Garage _and_ Petrolicious.
It walks the walk and talks the talk. It is really well done there’s no superfluous flash, just high quality and blistering performance. It just makes sense.
You sir, I really like your car, and your story. I respect the fact that you wanted a car that was different, lighter, and that sounded cool, and handled well versus the piston engine variants. Very cool car from a very cool gentleman that comes from a very cool place.
Yo the rx3 is so clean and the freaking quality of the videos you guys make is second to none and I truly mean none no documentary match’s these videos no other channel on RUclips match’s the quality of you guys I’m glad you guys do this and spread people stories about there love for there car it really brings the community together I feel keep up the amazing work guys
Petrolicious is clearly one of the best channels out there! Thank you for bringing real car enthusiasts in front of the camera so they can tell us their story and their car's !
Sweet car, I love the old Japanese cars that are really becoming classics. Also another Jay Leno's Garage alum, this makes the 2nd I've seen on the channel.
As a USMARINE ,I was stationed on Okinawa japan 81'to 86' ,street racing was growing so fast .1 of the cars running hard on those streets was the the NA Bridge ported carburetor (48 IDA Weber) rotary engine RX3's, Cosmos and RX7's .Was doing martial arts myself ,I took the Island wide 1st open tournament full contact championship (middle weight division) on Marine Base Camp Kinser ,my friend Dennis Lane was the heavy weight champion ,we both were active Marines ,Lane got out and turned pro .I lived out in town on Okinawa near Hwy 58 and got to see many street racing,I purchased a TRD GTV 76'toyota DOHC 2000cc Carina (not available in the states).Did some minor mods and hit the streets . Karate was not getting much attention on base .Got into street racing and my first lost was against a street ported 12a RX3 my friend had built by RS Okinawa speed shop .Coming back to the states (MCAS Cherry Point Havelock ,NC) I brought my Carina back and installed a monster bridge ported 13b.With much work and a small shot of N2O I got the best 1/4 10.67 ET @133 mph .Sold the car in 1998 and got into motorcycle and have been missing that car ever since . Motorcycle street racing was exiting .Got to by chance meet back up with at the time the former 4 time world Heavy Champion Dennis Lane in Morehead NC 20 years later at a boxing tournament ,he was the guest of honor .Dennis later years as many ,he stayed in the fight game too long I think. He is still a good person and a good friend .
OMG, this is one of the best modified cars I've ever seen, I abolsutely love it. Want it so badly. Also, tried my hand for the first time at viewing a video at 1440p, it's fabulous!
Saw this car on Jay's Garage and now here on probably the classiest car show around - love it. This has class and I like the humble aspect about it. That blacked out treatment of details works beautifully here. I wish a bit more rotary idle whoop would have ended in the final edit ;-)
My dad owned a 2 door 4 speed manual RX-2, and my older brother a 2 door 4 speed manual RX-3 so I learned to drive in Rotary powered Mazdas getting my drivers license in early 1976. They were both little rockets both powered by the same 12A engine. So nice to see some of these classics still on the road. None that I know of survived here in Hawai'i due to the thin sheet metal used and the salt air taking it's toll. Thanks for the nice flashback to happier times.
wow, i want to be a fighter but always wondered if it was a good idea to be into cars too, i bought a 350z and lost focus, but seeing some one else like this is great!
Shout out to the Petrolicious Crew for shooting the car!!!! I appreciate the love and dedication to the motorsport world!!!!!
Thanks Savant, was a great day and love the car! Keep on rumblin!
+Savant Young Good to see your car again!
+Savant Young you have a 510 right? Is there a site were we can see pictures and/or video of your 510? Awesome RX-3 btw
+WikdSeafood good looking out!!! I'm working on another project coming soon I hope
+jvs81 unfortunately I sold my 510 you can follow me on Instagram @savantyoung I have some pictures there.... It was a sad day but I just started another business and needed capital 😕
2000 pound car with 400 horsepower? This guy is living the dream.
from the factory he threw about 500 lbs of parts into it like the half ton rear axle and turbo
+retarded priest yeah man, forged pistons and a motec system exhaust
+Art Vandelay no pistons in this video, biiiiiig mistake.
+Art Vandelay pistons...lmao
+Unlike U Definitely has pistons. At least Felix Wankel thought it did - www.google.com/patents/US2988008
this guy made the car agressive but still tasteful, i love it
Awesome! I remember to this day riding home with my dad from buying his '73 RX-3. 8 years later, I got to drive it frequently in my senior year of college. The torque was impressive. That moment when you get your damn car on Jay Leno and Petrolicious. I envy this man
+Fred hoogendoorn And it don't even have a gas pedal ... how you gonna heel toe?
Don't mind me, just at a car show, drinking beer and cleaning my car. This guy is great👌🏼
I don't know what I like the most, the air filter where the light would be, the color, or those BBS rims?
+Motorcar Collector I freaking love both
Awesome all around, the black bumpers are great too
+Motorcar Collector The rim sticking out past the tire is disgusting, but I understand it is an appropriate aesthetic for this era car. Everything else about it is outstanding though.
Saw this car back when it was on Jay Leno's channel and loved it, saw it here and still love it. Like that guy's style.
+G Man I was just thinking 'wow, this guy and this car seems familiar!'
Saw him on Leno's channel too, it turns out.
I went to high school in Japan from 79 - 82 and this car (known as a Savanna RX-3) over there was our Camaro/Firebird. Freaking love this car, saw it on Leno's garage before this. The color, the stance, engine sound etc, everything is just perfect
Really special. He's his own man, does his own thing. Congratulations.
My kind of build; cool car, cool owner.
+MaxGentleman Thanks my dude!!!!
+Rahima Young do you still teach martial arts?
Cool car AND cool owner, definitely agreed. Mr. Young seems to know his car stuff well, and I totally respect the "more go than show" mindset.
Love to see young people messin' with cars.......New generations of motorheads getting out and doing.
Damn this thing is gorgeous. Perfect weekend thrasher car. Fast, light, nimble, and amazing looks to boot.
I remember the early 90's. I had a 1969 Ford Maverick I slapped and built a Hipo 289 engine. The Japanese videos are the best.
Love this rx3 and the owner. great guy!
This car is tastefully done, even quite elegant.

when I saw thst car on Jay Lenos garage.. man I loved it! Now this video. Thank you Petrolicious!
I like the juxtaposition of the drivers and their cars in all the videos. This one does not disappoint. Amazing video.
This Mazda is sooo perfect!! Show car & war machine all in one, perfect combination!
Just one glance at the thumbnail and i instantly recognized this car. Like Jay Leno said the thing just sits right and looks absolutely stunning
Bravo Mr. Young ...
+Unlike U Much love bro bro appreciate that
Mx3 ?... Rx3 ?
These cars were really big in the 80's when I was a kid in Los Angeles. Still remember that rotary sound.
money, headache, heartache, parts that dont fit, or they break. well said for all of us , my friend.
Bro I give you props ! Not only a nice ride, but a great life story to go along with it.. Happy Roads..
My dad had one of these, stock of course. I got my first driver's license in that car. It wasn't the fastest but it sure as hell was fun to drive! I have super fond memories of that car! Thanks for saving one!
Your car is the coolest RX-3. I loved it when I saw it on Jay Leno's garage. Hats off to you...
Thanks bro bro

I watched the Jay review, but I watched this again because I respect this car. it's freaking beautiful

+Mooselover1011 Thanks homie much appreciated
Every car can look agressive and awesome if you have good ideas. I like this car and this guy who made this car so special.
Great looking build on a model you hardly see anymore. The stance is perfect; not too low with just-right wheels & tires.
Cool ass dude. Cool ass RX3. Cool ass background music. Right on bruh.
One of my favorite builds! Loved his car when it was on Jay Lenos Garage. Great to see it again.

Damn, it looks timeless!! Mazda should just bring these cars back
Sweet car, I love the old Japanese cars that are really becoming classics. Also another Jay Leno's Garage alum, this makes the 2nd I've seen on the channel.

Ahahahahaha the lumpy BP idle shakes the crap outta the camera when you first fire it up :) Respect, solid mods & great attitude.
I love the craftsmanship. Good looking car. well done!
once again, very well done Petrolicious
A carbureted, turbo charged, rotary... I feel like mechanics love this guy.
respect bro... instead of the 22inch bullshit cadillac stereotypes
Absolutely beautiful, digging the black bumpers instead of the usual chrome, real nice touch, looks much more aggressive
this is what happens when have dudes with Japanese cars. down to earth and full of passion
I remember seeing this car on Jay Leno, great to see more of it, love this car. And you guys showed its good sides extremely well!
I love cars, but I drive a used Civic. I love martial arts, but all I do is a little tai chi. I love this video.
+Michael Teret I love cars. I drive a Civic. I love martial arts. I do a little tai chi. There, I fixed it for you.
I had an 808... God the memories. Well done!
OMG, this is one of the best modified cars I've ever seen, I abolsutely love it. Want it so badly. Also, tried my hand for the first time at viewing a video at 1440p, it's fabulous!
This dude understands life
My uncle had an RX-3 back in the day. It was sooo cool
Saw this car on Jay's Garage and now here on probably the classiest car show around - love it. This has class and I like the humble aspect about it. That blacked out treatment of details works beautifully here.
I wish a bit more rotary idle whoop would have ended in the final edit ;-)
Saw him on Jay's Garage a few months ago. Now on Petrolicious. Nice! Car is sick!!!
sounds so sweet, I remember this car in jay's show, I say it's a pocket rocket.
I wondered the same thing, but I think that's a different guy.
Yeah it's the same guy
yes

what perfect proportions and stance this car has.
No offense to Mr. Leno, but this felt way cooler here than in his piece. Nice job Savant! Enjoy that lil' monster!
That car looks clean! Love it! Thanks for sharing.
two thumbs up Bro! what a living legendary car.
Im amazed at how popular the RX models are for racing projects. Great video man
Fantastic looking little car. I'd buy it now!
What a beautiful piece of work! I think I saw this on jay Leno's channel as well. Awesome.
Savant is the real deal! Love the car dude.
+DJ MotoVlogs Good looking out homie!!!!
I like how he mentioned in the other vid about taking out the oil metering pump, I was thinking of doing the same thing to a rototary

Wow. Great vid & that RX ROCKS! Way to go
Amazing car!! very tastefully and sympathetically modified and that colour!!
