    I thoroughly enjoyed covering TimeSplitters 2, it still holds up brilliantly considering its age.

    Hour long video of timesplitters??
    HOOK IT UP TO MY VEINS!!!!!

      TimeSplitters has basically been my life for two weeks now! Played the first through twice and made the video for it, then the same for 2 as well. Got massively carried away with script too, envisaged writing a couple of thousand words and ended up with 12,000 odd. Already done Future Perfect once and continuing my second run today as well.

    When I was a kid, I had a choice between this and Jade Empire at the local game shop.
    I ended up taking Jade Empire, glad you're here to show me what I missed!

      Definitely give it a go if you can mate, 2 and Future Perfect are both fantastic. The original less so, but can be finished in an hour so not a big time sink if you want to see where they came from.
      Jade Empire is a great game too, so can't blame you for that either. Early BioWare really cooked - coming up with Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Mass Effect and Dragon Age in basically a decade is absolutely absurd.

    This game took over my tiny town in 2005. So much so, 8 year old's (Like myself) were trading it to get GTA SA (normally stolen from older brother)

    • @BenPlaysGames
      @BenPlaysGames  Месяц назад +2

      Was there anything more exciting than trading in video games? Going into the store, seeing how much you'd get for your old stuff and then figuring out what new game you could get. Nothing beat it.

    The soundtrack has some of the finest music of all time. I still listen to it.

    • @BenPlaysGames

      Agree completely. I mention Graeme Norgate's work a few times during the video and rightly so, as him managing to create so many different styles of track - including many bangers - is really impressive. Same for the series' other games too. My personal favourite is Chinese's music from the first game (although, I believe it's in every game after too).

      @@BenPlaysGames Chinese is a classic. I'd say my personal favourites in TS2 are:
      Mexican Mission, Hangar, Streets, Ice Station, Scrapyard, Notre Dame, Chicago, Neo Tokyo...
      It its versatility, Norgate's Magnum Opus kinda reminds me of one of my other favourite pieces of video game music: Frank Klepacki's Red Alert 1. You have the brutal "Hell March", the funky "Workmen", the epic "Running through Pipes"...

    i was always too scared to play this game as a kid after i saw the zombie in the first level so i just watched my brother play through it instead lol but i always remember it fondly. we did used to play co op sometimes on the arcade levels though, as long as there weren’t any zombies there 😅

    A classic series. 2 is my favourite but future perfect has the definitive Timesplitters campaign.

      The original is middling but 2 and Future Perfect are fantastic. I personally prefer 2 a little but that's not to take anything away from Future Perfect, as it's also awesome.

    robot factory is the source of my childhood trauma...
    also in neo tokyo you can hide under the stairs in the sewers to "skip" the stealth bit.

      I don't remember hating it that much when I was younger but perhaps I repressed the memories, as man alive do I dislike it in the present.

    I never actually noticed that the joystick on the temporal uplink moves when you move your character too that's a neat small detail!

    Also great that you mentioned the Master in NeoTokyo. Its the only way to get enough health on hard mode to get to the time portal, at least to me.

    I'm a GE/PD veteran that played through TS2 for the first time earlier this year. I loved it but I thought it was missing a layer of polish - in some areas it seems to be a backwards step from its predecessors.
    Poorly explained objectives, awful aiming and the poorly placed checkpoints. The ui/hud was baffling at times - in multi your score only flashes briefly when you score a point. The only other way to check it is to pause and flip past three other menus. The pause menu is also the only reliable way to swap guns. Its an odd choice in such a fast paced game. And space station and robot factory can get in the bin.
    But I loved the humour, character designs and the incredible creativity on show. I had a blast with it.

      It's a great shame that Free Radical seemed resistant to change in certain areas. Combat Evolved came out a year before TimeSplitters 2 and had incredible controls and yet at no point did the studio look at it and think it might be worth mimicking. For a game that often encourages stealth (which needs precise aim and headshots), it's very frustrating. I prefer 2's atmosphere and a lot of the levels but it cannot be denied that Future Perfect is the more modern experience by a distance.

  • @Kousaburo

    TimeSplitters 2 is the best and anyone who disagrees is wrong. With the third game I bet every single studio note from EA simply said "Like Halo". Trying to ape an FPS that is a completely different beast definitely hurt the game.

    • @BenPlaysGames
      @BenPlaysGames  Месяц назад +1

      Future Perfect is a great game and they really up the ante in terms of story presentation, but I prefer a lot of 2's levels. Especially the more open ones like NeoTokyo, Chicago etc.

    Cortez 'Vin Pitch Black Diesel' himself lol if they made a Timesplitters movie, it would have been crap np doubt but Vin would of been the ideal cast.....crap actor though (would have suited).
