I’m staying my second night in Điển Bien Phu and today whilst following the directions of Google Maps I actually approached the Campaign Command HQ from the opposite end and had the local farmer guide me through the 500m stretch of forest haha. A magical feeling walking on the same ground as General Giap & Ho Chi Minh all those years before. Much of the road is of great quality now and some of the stilt house are speculator along with the rice fields of course. Been a great couple of days exploring 👍🏻
+Peter Stuckings Thanks SK! Most shot on a little Sony camera that has no viewfinder - and it shows..... The stuff that looks better / clearer shot on the GH4.
I will be going to Dien Bien Phu in December. Perhaps, I will try to walk one of those trails. Is it difficult - I am not young but fit and able to walk a couple of hours if the pace is not too fast. I have done Sapa hill trail several years ago in the rain. The landscape looks similar and I expect the trail is muddy, ups and downs all the way but DBP may be much steeper I reckon. Any information or advice from the visitors in the past would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Here you go. You can make your own call about how challenging your walks are. www.rustycompass.com/vietnam-travel-guide-233/dien-bien-phu-17#.Y4dWH-xBxfU
Beautifult! @ 2:00 I can understand the two ladies and they said "Go ahead and take the sunset." They're Tai Dam ethicnally minority group of north Vietnam. Their language is much more similar to Thai(Thailand) and Laotian(Laos). They're very friendly. This place will change totally in the next few years, unfortunately. Hopefully, I will be able to visit it before that happened. Thanks for Sharing, Mark.

+tvhavan Thanks for the feedback and the translation too!
Vietnam home of the braves.
Thanks for the video. Easy to understand with your probably kiwi(?) accent.
Oz....
Should have shown more of the battle site. Much too quick of a walk thru.
The end of the French in Vietnam
