I really wish I would’ve had this kind of music growing up. I lived this style but the whole “fuck parents do drugs break shit” mentality of alternative metal really messed up my head as a kid. I loved the energy the music gave me though. I like to think I could have been a little happier if these were the lyrics I was hearing

Can you name any? I’ve been living in this scene for like 15 years and I can’t think of any. Alternative metal bands are like… Korn, Saliva, Alice In Chains, Static-X, Living Color, System of a Down, Mudvayne, Breaking Benjamin, Helmet, and even if you stretch it to Blink-182, Yellow Card or Sun-41 it’s still either angry, angsty, or sad. Not a Genre that usually strikes me as the uplifting inspirational kind of music lol

@Burst Gaming in "Crushing Thirties (Full)" , Johnny screams very hard (sometimes) , so he can scream hard , but crush 40 doesn't really match well these songs , but like I said, if they do it right they'll make a banger.

Everyone talking about how they want Crush 40 to come back (and rightfully so) but Jun Senoue (the guitarist of Crush 40 and the lead Sonic sound designer for a long time before being replaced with Ohtani) was still involved with some of the music production of Frontiers and is in the credits. It is quite possible that he played the sick guitar in some of these tracks
EDIT: I double checked and he is credited as a Recording Coordinator, tbh I'm not exactly sure what that means, but he WAS involved somehow
He has a more administral role on Sega's sound department nowadays

Crush served his time. All old things must die and make way for the new at some point. I’ll always honor and respect Crush 40’s for the legacy it created. It helped Sonic evolve into what he is now

Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 have classic, nostalgic music that has stood the test of time and has remained exceptional music in the Sonic franchise.
However, it has served its time. Sonic Frontiers is a new and welcome change for Sonic, not just in gameplay, but in the music as well, and I think it was the right decision.
The old music was great and we’ll continue to enjoy it for years to come, but all old things must die eventually and make way for the new.
I think both eras of music are equal. The old music was great, but so is the new music. I think it does a fantastic job of redefining Sonic for this modern age

Sonic isn't "changing music styles forever" they're just expanding the discography, they do it with every game. That doesn't mean that they don't return to other styles as well. The last vocal we got before Frontiers was Green Light Ride BY Crush 40, the sound of Sonic Forces was very different as well, but I don't remember people saying it was permanently changing the sound of Sonic and making things definitively "new and old" you're reading into this too much. Sonic is having his emo moment, doesn't mean we don't see him Crushing 40 ever again

Look Crush40 has a special place in my heart for multiple reasons. Nostalgia, banger lyrics, live and learn being one of the first songs that got me into video game music in the first place, but I'd be lying if I thought they were better than the Frontiers team. I think they're on the same tier, if not maybe a little beneath, the Frontiers team.

Old school sonic and its nostalgia trips, Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Heroes, my first 3 sonic games and I'd say the majority of crush 40 songs in all 3, nostalgia and goats of the old sonic generation (no pun in intended).
The new Sonic Frontiers music, when I hear it I want to run, sounds stupid by the vibe of the songs perfectly fits Sonic the hedgehog. The classics are classics for a reason. I hope the coming music will be just as good as Frontiers.
The only thing about Frontiers that really disappointed me was the final boss. Not Supreme he was pretty cool but The End being just a minigame kind of annoyed me

Call me old fashioned, but Frontiers OST (and even Forces) just doesn't quite jive with me the same way other ones did. Which is sad, because I don't usually have such mixed feelings on Sonic music, I used to enjoy them all the way.
