Awesome story, Danny! Keep up the great work and thank you posting such great content to your channel. Already learned lots of new things from your tutorials and looking forward to get a couple of your courses on udemy. Cheers and stay safe!
That must be the most honest video on this topic that exists out there! Thank you for these most valuable insights! I wonder what the other side of this life is now? Do you miss working with colleagues / in a team? Do you have to make those video tutorials to "stay in the loop" or are they "just for fun"? Where do you work now? In the library? Or at home? Or a shared office? Does you family feel safe considering the income is dependent on when and how many people buy the app? - It takes balls to go the way you go, especially with a child / children! Dd you involve your family in that decision?
*Do you miss working with colleagues / in a team?* I sometimes miss the banter, the laughs and the stuff you learn just chatting to people. However, I've always been happy by myself, since I was a little kid. And the older I get, the more content I am by myself, so for me its not a deal-breaker. But this depends on personality type. Some people can't cope with being by themselves all the time. *Do you have to make those video tutorials to "stay in the loop" or are they "just for fun"?* I kinda fell into making videos by accident. When I discovered Quasar, I was so excited about it, I gave a talk at the VueJS Meetup in Manchester. And I made that first RUclips video (ruclips.net/video/iml3hDVboHk/видео.html) as a word-for-word video version of my talk, for the benefit of the people who watched the talk. But then the video got quite a lot of attention and people asked for more videos, so I made more. Then they asked for a course, so I made a course. And now I enjoy the fact that making videos and courses forces me to keep learning. There's no better way to learn something than to make a course about it. Also, it's now a second business for me, since I sell courses. It doesn't do quite as well as my apps, but I think eventually it will surpass the app revenue. So the courses give me something to fall back on if the apps fall apart. And vice versa. When you're doing your own thing, it's a good idea to have multiple streams of income, in case one of them goes wrong. Not gonna lie though, it's very difficult trying to keep on top of both of these businesses. However, I now have a video editor which makes it all just about manageable. *Where do you work now?* When I first quit my job, I hired a desk in a co-working space, which was pretty fun. After a while, I felt like I needed my own space. So I'm now in a little office that I hired in a business centre 30 mins walk from my house (the room you see in the video). *Does you family feel safe considering the income is dependent on when and how many people buy the app? It takes balls to go the way you go, especially with a child / children! Did you involve your family in that decision?* It's a while ago now. I think my partner was a little nervous, but she had a full time job too, so we were never going to starve. For me there was no other option - I couldn't see any way forward in the context of a company. I had no interest in climbing the ranks to upper management, and I had no interest in staying as a senior developer either. The amazing thing is that now, my partner has just quit her job and is now pursuing her own business. I don't see it as especially ballsy. If it all goes wrong, I can just get a job, or do contracting. At this point, I would probably go the contracting route - if I had to. And with the kudos from my apps, RUclips channel and courses, it wouldn't be hard to find work.
Hi Danny, really interesting and insightful video, thank you for sharing! When you first launched your app and were making a few £ a day, before you'd added ads and the premium model, where was this money coming from?
Hi Natasha. I wasn't making anything from Fudget (before adding the Pro Upgrade & ads). But I had another app (called Speed Distance Time Calculator) which was making a few £ a day. 👍
I have just downloaded fudget to my android phone and followed the instructions to get it up and running, really cool / impressive / beautiful app, and you built it with html, css, jquery which is a remarkable work. I am pretty sure you would built it with vuejs if vuejs was out back then. yeah it is time to learn and build hybrid apps with quasar and publish to all of the platforms we can ever imagine. and most important of all, what kind of app should I build ? This is the task I should figure out first ...🙄🙄🙄
Thanks for downloading the app Ninja. Yeah I’m making good progress on Fudget 2 using Quasar V2 and Vue 3. I’m enjoying it WAY more with these technologies. jQuery was great at the time for little bits of functionality on web pages but it’s definitely not ideal for data driven, Single Page Applications. Also, you helped inspire me to work on making websites a year ago! However, I haven't done much on that website since I have been focussing my time on work and other projects

Hello mate, you said that you make it cross plaftform, and also that it appers on the other devices, did you still use only localbase? or did you need some backend language? thanks for answer and top videos!
For Fudget 1, I'm using IndexedDB for the local data on each device, then I'm using Dropbox which the user can use to manually share their data across their devices. Basically it will save all the data to an encrypted file in their Dropbox & then restore it to any device. But Fudget 2 will use Firebase for Pro Users with auto-syncing across devices. But for free users, it will just use Localbase for the data.
Thanks! No, the original Fudget was made with jQuery. However I'm creating Fudget 2 with Quasar 2 & Vue 3. I have a new playlist all about it: ruclips.net/video/OluD-GW8cRM/видео.html

That's because you created a hybrid app that was an iOS/Android app. However, for PWA cases, that aren't really native Mobile app, is it possible to use the Store's powerful marketing systems for PWA Apps?
As far as I know you, can’t list PWAs on any of the App Stores. You could only package it as a Hybrid app and publish a native-ish version. This is the challenge with PWAs. You need to do your own marketing and find your own audience. Not easy!

I was lucky in that I’d done a bit of design in my jobs. It never came naturally to me though & I was never amazing at it. The first version of Fudget was pretty ugly, but I improved it over time.
