Exactly 6 months and 19 days ago, I quit my 9-to-5 job and embarked on a journey to build my own software products. Over this period, I successfully developed several software products that now generate passive income, enabling me to sustain a comfortable lifestyle here in Sri Lanka, where living costs are lower than in Europe. As I continue to explore and travel, I've identified promising ideas that are ripe for product development.
Hey, can we connect. I am working as a software developer in mern stack currently. I am thinking of quiting.
Yes, do you have linkedin or twitter?
Would love to connect and discuss more
I quitted mine too and I'm also sharing my experience in my channel. Perhaps it's helpful for you too! What you've done is so brave and is definitely the right decision. Life and mental health comes first and is by far more important than any corporate validation :)
That is exciting, I’ll definitely check out your video too :) thanks for your words of encouragement
I had a very similar path. I used to work as a Software Engineer in Zurich for 6 years. The last year i was making good money and i was able to work remotely. It was the dream. But after 1 year of travelling, i quit and for the past 6 Monhts, i was doing nothing. Now, i started a company around AI and it feels exciting again :) Good Luck on your future!
Thank you for sharing your experience and kind words, it means a lot! ♥I am super happy to hear that you started your own company, that is exciting! Congratulations! ✨
oh yeah? What's the company name?
glad you're doing what's best for your health! can't wait to see what you do!
thank you for your kind comment, I appreciate it 😊
The brutal reality in the Tech Industry, is that working every day with laptop/PC screens leads to burnout of our eyes, brains, back pain etc...also in parallel with job, we must constantly learn new things in our free time, reevaluation skills that keep us competitive to job market..so 8 hours in work and another 2-4 hours for extra skill advancement = 12 hours Eye/brain burn out daily!!! But at the end of the day, I think simpler jobs in nature make us more excited and happy. Jobs in Tech besides money are very ruthless in our physical condition so yeah...it's not all about money = success. I think success = to be happy and calm at the end of the day!
Peace out!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! 😊
Oh Iris. I'm sorry that you got to the point where you felt the need to quit but taking care of your mental health and physical health comes first. As I've said before I spent 38 years in the IT world as a programmer up to a systems analyst. Long hours and stress are the norm. Lots of impossible deadlines and always feeling like you were at work even when you weren't does take a toll on you. I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do going forward. I hope that you will continue to post videos regardless of what you end up doing. You have great content and I have always enjoyed watching your videos. Take care.
I have a high-paying job, but I'm facing the same challenge you are. My team lead keeps telling me I need to work harder. Because of this, I can't seem to switch off and always have work on my mind. I need this job to pay off my debt, and I plan to quit eventually once it's all settled.
It's okay to take a break from work. Life has more meaning than what other people think. I wish you great success ahead 🙌
thank you for your uplifting comment 😊
That’s such a brave thing to do!
You’re young only once in your life, enjoy every moment!
Hi there, thanks so much for your kind comment and motivating words ♥
I did something similar quitting my job at a big 4 some years ago. The advice I give you is not take too long of a break.
I have over 15 years of experience in this field and yes I felt the same way many times during my career.
thank you for sharing ♥️☺️
Hello there. This is how Software Dev is feeling : I like it, but it is so stresfull that I always think about finishing my carrer as early as I can financial. This seems hardcore, but it has a point : I am always tired, can't sleep well, so stressed, never have time for me or my family.. I just think about something like going rural with my savings
Thank you so much for your information and support.
I am so proud of you!!! ❤
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Also thanks to all the nice people in the comments sharing their experience with this topic! 🤗
thank youuuu gurl 🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️ hugs!

Hey iris i wish for your good future and just take a break and keep your mind peace, be happy and enjoy every moment of your life. We are excite to get more videos from you ❤❤.
aww thank you for leaving such a sweet message, it means a lot to me 🤗
I felt this a few months ago, the same as you described while working remotely. But then I got sick because of dengue. That gave me 3 weeks to recover and reevaluate my working style. Soon after joining, I asked my manager to transfer a lot of responsibility that didn't align with my goals to other team members. That gave me room to breathe and I also focused more on my anxiety issues. I don't how it worked but I made myself aware of my insecurities and so some of those anxiety also melted away. It was a slow and gradual process for me.
Starkes Video, ich schätze deine Ehrlichkeit. Bin gespannt, wo es dich hintreibt!
vielen dank für den lieben kommentar 🫶🏼
I quit my tech job too :) Here for your journey! Excited to learn more
I’m sorry to hear you quit your tech job too! we’re in this together ♥️ thanks for the sweet message!
but at the same time: congratulations! 🥳
@@iris-tabea onto bigger, better & more aligned things for sure! I'm also documenting my journey so it's cool to see how we all share similar feelings but turn to different paths depending on what feels best for us!
guurl I love your channel and your mission! 👏🏼💗 just subscribed ☺️ Feel free to drop your channel link here so others can see it too!
You are amazing. Beautiful smile and positive attitude. I envy your life. There has to be a balance of life, money and work. If you don't love your work, it's not worth it. Do you love Vienna? I have a friend that lives in Vienna. Do what makes you happy and fulfills you.
Thanks for sharing and good luck in your healing journey.❤
I'm sure that your wisdom and the power if the universe will lead you to the best and precisest path for you.
aww thank you that is such a sweet and uplifting message 🙏🏻🌸
Good to hear your story..
We love you in everything any anything you do. That specially applies to when you are just taking a breath. Everything will be okay! This was highly inspiring as every single one of your videos, and couldn't have come at a better time!
Thank you for your kind comment, I really appreciate it 😊
Happy for you
I wish you all the best!
thank you 😊
I lot of people get burnout, but people mostly learn about it after it happens. There is a great talk from Game Developers Conference about this topic, you will find it easily.
I have heard that Swiss work culture is really hard, was that also the case in your company?
I hope you get better and return to do whatever you love doing.
I think the same as you , you need to find the job you are happy with otwerise it will break you in long term anyways, I hope you will find the job or something that you are passion about soon. be brave :)
thank you so much for your wise words, that is so true :) we need to listen to our intuition more! I wish you all the best as well 😊🌸
Wow. That sounds just like me these past few weeks. I don't have anything to fall back on though, and I'm probably about 10 years older than you so I'm super behind in my retirement savings because I wasted my 20s not worrying about money.
By the way, if you work harder so that your teammates have an easier time, your boss will just give them more work to do. lol. The reward as a software engineer for being productive is more work.
I do have 1 month of paid vacation in a few weeks though.
Good luck. Consider staying in the field, your salary is projected to be very high once you get senior dev level experience. You started way younger than me in SWE. You could probably semi-retire well before 40, maybe even in your 30s to purse other ventures.
Nice to see you again... Wonderful✨😍 adventure video, looking pretty
if youre comfortable sharing, what languages did you had to learn?, what was your daily task?, did you do coding all day?, how much did you earn monthly?
best of luck!
Hey so what are you doing now and how are you surviving financially?? I want to quit too...the burnout is real!
hey there! I was lucky enough to have enough savings from working as a software engineer to take an adult gap year, I am also spending a lot of time living back home with my family instead of traveling as much as before to minimise costs. In the meantime I am doubling down on creating RUclips videos and landing brand deals, I am only making a couple hundred dollars per month from that right now but hoping it grows at some point. Other than that I am trying to get a job in content creation or video editing. Honestly I am still figuring things out so can't give you too much advice but I want to be transparent - hope that answers your question!
Great Video Iris!
Do you edit them yourself?
Thank you 🤗🤗 Yes, I edit them myself
@@iris-tabea That's Great. I'm a video editor and will help you edit them for you. So you can save your time as well.I can share my portfolio too.Let me know we can connect (:
Hi Iris, am new sunscriber. Thank you for sharing.
hi there 🤗 so happy you like the video!
I dont understand, she still lives in Switzerland or not?
Did you think aobut getting in to QA testing ? its way more relaxed and you can easily became automation tester with your skills and knowledge. A lot of people also switch from automation QA to development after X amount of years when they feel a need for more challeneges. Hope you will find something that fits your lifestyle. Best wishes.
Hi there, that sounds interesting 😊 I never thought about it - thank you for sharing!
Relatable
are you a web developer or mobile app developer or what type of things you were making in your job ?
I was working full-stack on a web application :)
I think all the digital distraction just has us longing for nature - didn't evolve for 60+ hours a week on computers. Maybe 20 tops.
SO WHAT DO U DO NOW? HOW U SURVIVE?
2:03 who's whispering ????
Software engineers are in demand in the US. Employment based immigration. High demand. Lot of big companies- TI, Ericsson, Siemens, Google, Microsoft.
Wir alles brauchen etwas Ruhe. ich verstehe. Sie sind junge. Nehmen sie Zeit und entscheiden. Immer wieder Österreich. haha
Thank you for your kind comment, I appreciate it :)
Lovely accent
❤️❤️❤️❤️
i come here after watching a video why people are leaving their high paying job.
here i find reason is not upto the mark.
Wow, work is difficult - what a surprise, right? It's easier to make RUclips videos how others should get into engineering instead and do real work there - who would have thought? 😂
right??😉 ✨LiVinG tHe DrEaM✨
Can you friendship.please help me job visa.very need.i like you
Unpopular opinion, but you just need to be mentally tougher. No company is going to pay you six figures for you to sit at a desk to be happy and "pursue your dreams". I sit at my desk 8 hours a day, I listen to music, listen to podcast and I write code. I am EXTREMELY privileged. DEAL WITH your mental health, don't run away from it
Overall what you are saying is great but there are definitely companies that pay developers 6 figures to do that
Glad you brought this up! While I think you’re correct, we all have to be ok with recognizing that everyone is wired differently and in different growth processes. Also, another unpopular opinion: as women it can be tough to mentally toughen up because we’re naturally wired differently from men, that doesn’t make us broken men or men broken women, it just makes us all different. Also upbringing, identity, connectedness, etc all factors in at some level usually, too. As we get older though many of us do develop more mental/emotional toughening up. I was in a predominantly male sales environment in my late 20’s and I was a top salesperson, but it was mentally challenging at times, almost a decade later I think I could handle it a ton better now though.
🫶❤️
its cause u want to have a baby instead.
😂😂😂 wouldn’t quitting be the wrong move then? because if you quit you don’t get maternity benefits 😉
@@iris-tabeasee here you just showed, you have no real interest in computing, your only in it for the maternity benefits.
if someone quits and leaves the company they do not get maternity benefits :) I left, so I do not get them anymore 😉
