  • Things have taken a rough turn for Ukrainian forces. Recent reports suggest they might have lost a couple of their heavy hitters: at least 2 American-made Abrams tanks and 1 Swedish Archer artillery gun. While both losses undoubtedly deal a blow to Ukraine's military muscle, the burning Archer might leave a deeper, more lasting scar in the long run.
Why so? Before delving into the potential reasons behind this disparity, let's explore the events surrounding these losses. Though the exact details of the fight are still fuzzy, here's what we do know:

Funny the second one looks like a M1150 “ABV”. Not a main battle tank, but an anti mine vehicle with only two crew members and armed with a .50cal. Ukraine is also using them improperly. No tank is going to survive a direct hit. Armor would have to be 3ft thick. Thus it would be impossible to do. Now you could design a tank that has better crew survivability. There have been somewhere around 30 Abram’s in US service destroyed. So around 70 crewmen affected. Of those only 9 were KIA. Of those all came from only 4 tanks. 3 involved massive IED’s strong enough to remove the turret, and one dropped directly inside the turret. However in all 4 cases at least one crew member survived. Definitely not something eastern bloc tanks are known for.

on the scale of the front, these archer units have no meaning. For artillery to make a significant contribution to combat operations, there must be a lot of it and its losses can be easily made up for by the country’s production capabilities. Therefore, Russia has a decisive advantage over Ukraine; it creates its own artillery in very large volumes. And if we take into account air superiority and the active use of bombs, Ukraine and NATO have no chance

@@off6848 no my friend the 9m133 kornet is shape charges warhead which is a chemical explosive, so the speed or the ranges are irrelevant factors here, even the pg 7 rounds used onboard suicide FPV drone possess the same chemical explosive nature of the atgm warheads...
I think the higher speed in the 9m133 compared to the older Soviet/Russian ATGMs systems is:1- to reduce the flying time and with it enhancing the conical no escape zone for the target's,
2-the maximum range is 5500 for e model which the missile should cover it in 22 sec which is important for the covering maximum distance in shorter time when negotiating mobile target's...
3-and maybe by employing the speed to give the guided projectile a better chance to defeat hard & soft kill systems...

You have to understand one thing, and that is that the success of American military equipment, from invisible planes to these tanks, was against opponents with weapons that are several generations behind the American ones. When they came across weapons of the same generation in this war, that technique was not successful at all, it was intended for weaker opponents and advertising. Well, invisible planes were shot down over Serbia with anty aircraft systems from the 60s, imagine what modern Russian systems would do. Another problem is that everyone knows that Russian invisible fighters fly over Ukraine, but the radars don't register them, the Russians are really rude, so they make planes that NATO and America can't see.

I really think the Russians considered that, however if the USA gave Ukraine inferior weapons or not - Russia job in a war is to destroy it on the battlefield (In this case they did that). Hope that Ukrainian crew was happy with sitting inside a tank with inferior armour, hope you are happy with people risking their lives in inferior equipment. Is the USA dumping inferior equipment to Ukraine....? Why - that is risking lifes and making the training, the expense of operating the tanks, all the soldiers the tanks are suppose to support, the infrastructure adjustment, the technical personal trained to maintain the tank all a fruitless exercise.
The USA Abrahams and British Challenger are both Chobham armour?.....That tech are 40+ years old - Composite armour was first fielded by the Soviets, Chobham is just a update on 1950's invention.
Irrelevant of the successfull destruction of a tank - Im glad the blow out panels worked and hope the crew is safe.
