- Today is a channel first. After so many of you recommend that I try Lebanese food, I've decided to head to Kensington to review Baba Ghanouj who supposedly serve some of the best authentic Lebanese food in London.
Please don't forget to like and subscribe to the channel!
Love that you review restaurants that are a bit out of your comfort zone and always respect their cuisine while giving an honest assessment.
You are truly a breath of fresh air on RUclips, keep on" Giving it a go" Gary.
My pleasure John. Middle Eastern food has become a huge favourite of mine
I fancy a T-shirt with 'As always, let's give it a go'
And… “chips are chips”
“Fries are fries”
Yeah I'd ask my wife to wear it 10pm on a Saturday night 😂
Mercgandise: I think Gary should give lets give it a go T shirts a go!
I would wear that 😂
Oh Matthew, I'll see what I can do!
(3) I really like middle-eastern food. It has a character all its own. And just going by the way the food looked, I think your "9" is spot on!!! Thanks for once again taking us out for a fabulous meal, even though we are only spectators.
I totally agree!
I'm glad that you enjoyed your Lebanese meal. The 'purple stuff' is a type of pickled white turnip that gets coloured from slices of beet root that is added to the jar. It is called 'lifit' in Lebanese Arabic.
As in many societies Lebanese bread is used as a 'utensil' to pick up dip or other foods from your plate as you did with the Hummous
Thank you, I wondered what it was👍
yes, but additionally he refered to the purple spice that was sprinkied on the chicken and the meat. It is ground sumac and I love it! It has a somewhat lemony flavor. I cook with it all the time.
Yes Stephen, worked out it was turnip after eating it. It was sumac which I was looking for that was sprinkled on top of the chicken. Thank you very much, loved it 😄
@@GaryEatsyou're very lucky to such nice knowledgeable subscribers. Credit to them and you Gary 👍
Indeed I am. A lovely community :)
Oh, this took me back thirty years to staggering around Hammersmith in the wee small hours with a vaguely famous Irish guitarist looking for what he promised was "the best Lebanese in London". We ended up with empty Rizlas at 5am but a great breakfast from an all night place place run by Armenians on the border with Chiswick. This restaurant looks superb.
I remember frequenting somewhere called Yazz in the 90s, A Lebanese restaurant in West London. Don't think it's still there.
Lol. Thanks for watching!
Who was the guitarist? Hanging out to know. 😆🎸
@@aussiemouth747 I sent a long reply which has vanished. It was Belfast musician Jackie McAuley who was in "Them" with Van Morrisson and was in many other bands. If yousearch for him or "Poor Mouth" (the name of his own band) here on RUclips you will find some of the best Celtic Rock ever made.
Thanks Gary, it's just 5 minutes down the road from where I live so off to give it a go.
Have a great time Peter.
I had a better paid job 10 years ago and used to enjoy this kind of eating out, these days I'm earning half as much but have a better life, I try to cook to similar standards at home although you can't beat authentic food served to you. I now eat out vicariously through your video's, thanks Gary.
You’re more than welcome Matt.
Wonderful....both the food and your delivery , open honest and gimmick free ...the extra 5k subs over Xmas proves you're on the button 👍
Wow, thank you!
Lebanese cuisine is one of the greatest. That white sauce is likely not mayo, but toum, which is essentially just oil and garlic blended into a smooth consistency.
Thanks for the tips!
Great on the roasted potatoes too.
The colours in that mixed grill and presentation looked absolutely delicious, Gary! Definitely now on my bucket list. Love the diversity of your reviews - food always breaks down all barriers and has a universal language all of its own. Cheers, mate!
Absolutely. Enjoy!
It's dark, cold, wet and windy at the moment and then Gary has a video up. I personally find the videos chilled, relaxing, informative and often sparks my appetite - great stuff Gary.
Can't beat a bit of Gazza to lift the spirits.
I always watch the videos twice, at least.
Thank you Stephen . All the best 😄
Thank you Nigel 😄
Really enjoy watching all your videos on here Gary - you have 'found your format' 👍 it's an incredibly watchable channel - every single video. You are an absolute natural in front of the camera Gary, and you just keep it moving along. But I realised as I watched that you are as only good as your cameraman (or it might be a lady !) - the camera (or iphone) work is highly impressive and both of you really make it a great Channel - I'm going to give you both a 10 out of 10 !!!!!!!!!!!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I love how he tastes each item and the videos don't drag on .
It's a cameraman. Thank you so much!
Thank you Shahid.
This is one oustanding place, been here a dozen times-another enjoyable review!
Thanks Mike you know how good this place is
Really good to have you reviewing a cuisine you haven't tried on your vids yet. All those dishes had my mouth watering so I'll definitely make a note to try that place one day. The food certainly looked worthy of your high rating.
Thank you!!
Oh it’s made my Christmas that the cameraman is getting fed! 😊 The food looks lovely! Excellent video as always Gary! xx
Aye it's about time for the poor lad
Hope you enjoy!!
🤣🤣
Gary you're a top bloke mate, really enjoy the videos
Thanks so much 👍
I really appreciate that you are happy to try out ANY style of cuisne...breakfasts...burgers...pub grub...curry house...and today a Lebanese feast!..it all looked delicious ...and definitely going on my 'to visit if possible' list!
Thank you Wendy!
Evening Gary 👍that looked fabulous, I've never had Lebanese food or even seen the style of cooking before so thanks for the education. I'm not a fan of houmous but it looked amazing as did the colourful chicken. The shawarma is definitely something I would have a go at. It would be great to see a Gary eats chilli video with all your comments such as 'let's try the chilli, that's enough chilli' 🤣🤣like a blooper reel for a 35k special. Anyway, great job and as always honest with the review, nice one, cheers🍻✌️
Evening Martin. You’ve given me a superb chilli idea although I don’t think my stomach would thank me 🤣
It's really fun to see you going to so many different kinds of restaurants. That shwarma looked really tasty.
Very impressed that just one day and you already have over 500 comments. Great job, Gary!
Thanks mate :)
Another cracking upload -great to see the sub count rising. I think that pink 'turnip' is pickled mooli - used a lot in Lebanese cooking - can't be sure though as i didn't taste it. All the best boss.
Thank you Roman. Much appreciated!
Please order Baba Ghanoush. De-li-ci-ous! Lebanese/Syrian cuisine is Arab food at its very best. I must follow your foodsteps and visit this place myself. Thank you very much for showing us. Happy New Year!
I will do Sylvia!! Thanks :)
This channel just keeps on delivering quality after quality uploads well done Gary 👏 😊
Thank you kindly George 😄
Gary your face eating the chilli hahaha 🤣 " no more chilli great video again mate
Hi David. How are you mate? Haha no more chilies indeed!.
@@GaryEats I'm ok mate trying to be strong like everyone else in this crazy world 🌎 keep up the great work mate
You are strong mate. Keep going and all the best.
Hi Gary, love the content mate. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching my friend!
I've never tried Lebanese but always wanted to, and I can definitely see myself giving Baba Ghanouj a try next time I'm in the area. Everything looked superb - and at a reasonable (for London in 2023) price. A great review Gary and Cameraman, as always. Irrespective of the varying qulaity of the establishments you review, your channel gets the maximum 3 michelin stars from me.
Now, back to my beans on toast
Please do! Really kind of you, I don’t deserve 3 Michelin stars but I appreciate you awarding them to me 😄 thank you!
These independent eateries deserve our support. Good food cooked with love of what they are doing. As always, it was an excellent review. Thanks for taking us along.
@@GaryEats The feedback you're getting from the comments on your channel tells you you're doing a great job. I watch a lot of review channels on youtube and you've quickly become my favourite. Combining the range of establishments you look at, your easy manner in front of the camera (not forgetting the exceptional camerawork) and your always honest and informative reviews. It all adds up.
Very kind. Thank you!
Another excellent review Gary and the food looked wow, only thing Is the paper cup with the dip in, not in a restaurant, ok for take away. Love the different food reviews.
Thank you 👍🏼👍🏼
When a restaurant knows how to properly cook the food they are serving it shows and just by the way you reacted to the simple dish of hummus displayed this! Those shawarmas looked delicious and really filling on their own. Decent food, decent score. Cannot get fairer than that in my view!
Spot on Joe. Thanks mate.
Been here before and agree it's great! I can see you like your meat so would recommend trying afgani cuisine. Specifically, their chapli kebab and charsi kharais. Best places for this are Namaak Mandi and/or Wataan both in Tooting. You won't regret it! Love the channel
Thank you!!
I live near Dearborn, Michigan (USA) and we have the largest Middle Eastern population outside of the Middle East. I really enjoyed this video and I even took a moment to peek at Baba Ghanoush's menu online. It looks great and I've decided that on my way home from work tomorrow, I will stop for this type of cuisine. I know a place where the hummus is velvety, as Gary described it. Once you've had hummus like that, you're ruined for the stuff you buy in the grocery store. Everything looked fantastic!
You’re spot on Christine. Thanks for your comment!
your enthusiasm is a real joy
Thank you Julie 👌
Ive never tasted Lebanese food. The starter didnt do it for me but the main did look fab and I by your mmm's..very tasty. I would swap a chilli for a mushroom..😂😂..happy to try new food experiences, otherwise we cant comment. Ty for sharing, so pleased Mr Cameraman had a taste too !😊
You would love it 👍🏼
Helo Gary subscribed just today. Calm videos and simple and smooth. Good luck from India.
Thanks and welcome! Hello to India :)
Just in time for me to sit down and watch the video when having me tea, thanks Gary, never been to a Lebanese restaurant, interesting to see what's on offer 👍
good lebanese food is amazing - I love complex persian food too
Hope you enjoyed it Malcolm!
Wonderful! I must say you're populating my restaurant bucket list fast.
I'm so sorry for increasing your expenditure lol
The chickpeas for the houmous were probably de-skinned (as they're supposed to be) which removes the slight bitterness it often has and gives it the 'velvety' texture you found.
Wow, thanks for the info 😊
Ohh Gary, that looked lush, delicious!!!! Whatever they charged, it wasn't enough. Crowded and popular. Speaks for itself.
I'm glad you had a good time and lovely food. Well worth every penny.
Thank you so much!!! Enjoyed this immensely.
Great review 👏 👌 👍 🙌 😀 💯
Never been, but after seeing this, mate, think we have to pay them a visit. Not too keen on lamb but more of a chicken man myself. The food looked really good and done to almost perfection. Just from the looks and your description, I would give them a 9 out of ten! Have a wonderful weekend, mate and check your email when you got time. All the best! 😊
I will do Frank. Have you sent a new one? I got one from you yesterday that I will reply to very soon.
@@GaryEats no, I referred to the one I sent yesterday, mate! 🙂😁
Made me so happy today Gary for this video. Thought your next one would be in the
New Year. Smashing chap. Your a star.
You’re welcome. Another one coming tomorrow Paul 👍🏼
4:53 this is Lebanese garlic sauce called "toum". Basically emulsified garlic and oil, amazing stuff. I'm jealous as I used to live in the middle east but am now in rural Wiltshire where this is only available if I make it myself 😂 where I lived this whole meal would be £7 with drinks included but I don't expect to see those prices again 😢
Thank you!!!
cheers Gary looks great might try that next time im around kensington great little vlog mate
You should Tony. Thanks mate :)
Hi Gary great video. Really glad you went to middle eastern restaurant. I live over in the UAE and since moving over here from the UK this is the type of food we eat everyday especially the khobez which is pronounced 'hubz' and is a generic flat bread. Over here price for this type of meal is around half of what you paid for double the amount. Hope to see you over here someday to sample the delights of our UAE cuisines outside of Dubai
I’m currently in Dubai from UK. Any restaurant recommendations?🙂🙂🙂
Thank you my friend. Hope you're enjoying it over there, maybe one day!
@@tom24057 my advice would be to stay away from the tourist spots. If you have transport, try going to the northern emirate of Ras Al khaimah for authentic cuisine at Afghan Mandi or Madfoon. If you want to stay in Dubai get a cab to Al Meshwar on the Sh. Zayed Road. It is a wonderful Lebanese restaurant. Have a great vacation 👍
@@savvasothon5100 Thankyou my friend!! Sadly we fly home today!😂😭 but I’ve saved these for next time 🙏
Hi Gary hope u and the camera man 👨 had a lovey Christmas snd 🥊 day your video s are amazing thank you always enjoy them 😀

That food looked so good, especially on a cold, rainy day.
Oh yes!
Lebanese food is truly amazing glad you liked it gary
It’s superb mate. Thank you.
I knew you wouldn’t be disappointed Gary. Lebanese is tops.
The purple was sumac 👍🏾😊
Thanks mate. It was delicious.
Absolutely brilliant vlog Gary Been catching up with all ur vlogs.I've now subscribed 👍U seem such a lovely trustworthy person .Guess thats why u have so many subscribers so soon. All the best for 2024 🎉
Thank you very much Linda. All the best!
Lebanese food is quite popular here in Australia due to the many Lebanese migrants who fled here 40/60 years ago,i can eat it but prefer Asian or European food when i go out for a meal.It certainly was well presented and looked like an enjoyable meal.Your mark seemed accurate judging by the amount of pleasure you had from it.Great review again
Abdul's on Elizabeth st Syd, when going back to visit sisters it's train from airport to central and a short walk back to heaven
😊he forgot the tabule though
Thank you my friend 👍🏼
Another great review as usual Gary and I'm suddenly starving after watching it , Looking in the fridge I don't think the leftover turkey is going to cut it.
Hope you enjoy Kevin 😄
Enjoyed that! Lebanese food is my favorite. The hummus looked excellent, swimming in oil, just the way I like it.
So good Sandria. Glad you liked it 👍🏼
I have to admit that looked very nice Gary, it's good to highlight these relatively unknown places.
and to show food from different countries and those taste sensations. See you on the next one Take care, Gareth
Cheers Gareth!
At a lebanese restaurant. You order mix grill without rice, Bread instead. homus, taboola, fatoosh. Araayes.
Thanks for the tips. Next time, I'll get a much different seletion!
Looked amazing .lamd is my fav .great vids first thing I look forward to at 7pm every night is your post❤😊
Thank you Graham :) video coming for you tonight.
The "purplish" (in my eyes it's more scarlet) spice on the meat is likely sumac. It is used all over the region a lot, especially in kofte and kabob.
Excellent review as always.
Thank you!
Visited this restaurant about 10 years ago. Hasn’t changed much, I’m pleased to say because it was a fantastic experience. Superb food.
Totally agree!
How's you keeping did you have a lovely Christmas
Had a wonderful Christmas Luke. How about you!
It's been a ok Christmas thank you just would like to say a very happy new year to you before hand 2024 🥳 🎉
This little gem is up there with the very best restaurants you have reviewed to date Gary, next year on our hit list to try from your reviews, thank you!!
Please do!
Lebanese r’ good.
Oh yes.
Looked fabulous Gary that mixed grill looked so good and beautifully presented, just had my hair cut in Wimbledon by my Lebanese barber, i'll have to send him your video.
Great stuff mate. Thank you :)

Great stuff. You’ve got my double as your photo 🤣
I'm addicted to your food reviews. I've been binge watching, really like your channel
Awesome! Thank you!

Can you keep the politics out of Gary's channel? People are here for light relief or we're just hungry.
Great video again Gary, will definitely give this place a try. I would have loved to see you give their baba ghanoush a try , one of my favourite dips . Look forward to see more of your videos this year. Happy New Year to you and the camera person.
Thank you mate. Happy new year!
Another great video Gary!
I always pause the video just before you give your ranking to make my guess. I was thinking you were going to say 9.5. Why a 9 and not a 10?
The service wasn’t great sadly.
Looked very very nice my mouth was watering .thx for the video Gary enjoyed very much ..
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks fantastic Young Gary! Keep 'em coming mate! x
Thank you, I will!!
You should try falafel next. Gary, you're a classy eater and a fantastic reviewer. I like your classic British way of eating food with less talking. Keep it up Gary. Happy new year!!
I will do! Thank you so much, you’re very kind 😄
thanks for your great review, despite today awful weather, your a star.
Thank you Angela!
I've been to Lebanon and the food is fantastic. It's also a country where Turkish-style coffee is readily available. The locals were bemused that a westerner would prefer Turkish-style coffee to Nescafe. There's no comparison. How about trying some Iranian food? That's also delicious but it helps if you like rice, lots of rice.
Yes Geoff. I’ve got Persian food on the list.
My favourite Lebanese thing is a mezze platter which often includes some lovely hummus, so I can imagine the taste of yours. It looked delish! It's years and years since I had a Lebanese meal in London but used to use a superb restaurant on the Edgeware Road, which is long gone now. Not been to Baba Ganouj (though eaten quite a lot of that dish over the years). The shawarma looked really delicious. Your whole meal looked lovely and I'd be very happy to give Baba Ganouj a try! I hoped you were heading for a score of 9. That's what I'd have rated the meal too. Nothing there to dislike!
Great stuff. I’ll mix it up next time 😄
Oooh that lamb, another great find Gary - and yep we need you to do merch 👍
Haha. I will try my best Carol.
Hi Gary and Mr Cameraman, wow this Authentic Lebanese food looked amazing and so fresh, those breads had clearly just been made.
The mixture of the herbs and spices on that lamb made it look so mouthwatering.
Stake is great, but this Lebanese food with all its herbs and spices makes a refreshing change, i would defiantly give this place a try.
Chris. 😋
Absolutely excellent Chris. Couldn’t recommend the cuisine anymore - excellent!
Another brilliant video Gary 👏 I’m hungry now 🤣
Glad you enjoyed it!!
That looked lovely Gary and you obviously enjoyed it, thank you and best wishes for the New Year.
Best wishes to you Colin.
What a delicious banquet of Lebanese food Gary.. made me very hungry watching you tuck in.
Good stuff. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
Lebanese is one of my favourite choices for an authentic kebab experience, closely along-side Turkey, I honestly couldn't put one above the other. The Middle East know how to cook meat incredibly well.
The garlic sauce specific to Lebanese cuisine you have there is called Toum. It is essentially garic, oil and lemon juice made most often in a blender in a similar way you make mayonaise. Blended garlic cloves, often raw but with the bitter parts removed. Oil is then slowly trickled into the blender until a nice consistency is met, then lemon juice added slowly for taste and sometimes a pinch of salt for seasoning. If you LOVE garlic, then you will love this!
Thanks for another great review, Gary!
Love both. Have you tried Persian food?
@@GaryEats A couple of times but it didn't stand out to me as much as Lebanese or Turkish. I probably went to the wrong places.
Really good review of some Lebanese food. You don't always have the right words for what your trying to say. but I can tell when you're enjoying a meal, and that speaks volumes.
Thanks! 😃
oh man.. u just so great to watch and comment !!! best food reviews ever from a great great humble man ... pls never change
I appreciate that!
Lebanese food looks absolutely delicious. No surprise there. I love Middle Eastern food. It’s incredible and utterly terrific. I’m a huge fan of proper houmous and pitta type bread too. Gorgeous.
It really is!
Yes, smashing place Gary. Liked the look of everything. Now you've got me searching for humous recipes! LOL.
Have fun. Love Hummus.

Went here for my birthday! Excellent recommendation Gary
I’m really pleased you enjoyed it and happy birthday
The food looked delicious and £6.90 for a wrap that size and quality is incredible. Thank you for the recommendation I hope to visit in the future!
Hope you enjoy it!
Oh wow Gary, just a few days ago I asked you to try Lebanese food for the channel and now you have done it. Amazing 🤩
You’re more than welcome Michael. I’m always listening to new recommendations 😄
Happy new year to you and the camera man, happy 2024, food looked good
Glad you liked it Phil. Thanks for watching!
That hummus and bread looked absolutely lovely; fresh, light and full of flavour and goodness. It went downhill with the intensively reared chicken but that's everywhere these days and people don't usually consider how things are produced when eating. At least it was all scratch cooked without palm oil and emulsifiers in every bite so better than most places. I could probably find things I like there and will look for Lebanese locally as I don't go to London. Good review.
Really kind of you to say, thank you
I've just started watching your latest video while I do so Gary I would like to wish you a happy new year hope next year is a successful and prosperous for you your videos really bring joy to my life very thankful for your content always enjoyable watching your reviews 😊🎉

Stonkingly good vlog as ever Gary. That meal looked awesome from start to finish.
Excited to follow you on your '24 travels and reviews. 🙂😎👍
Thank you my friend :)
Love your reviews Garry. I love the fact you go through each and every item - well detailed!
12:22 good attempt 😆 it’s pronounced “khoobz” which in Arabic means bread. Every country in the Middle East has their own version and as a half Moroccan (not being biased) I can say the Lebanese bread is the best and one of the softest
Thank you!! Appreciate the education as it always helps 👍🏼
I just love Hummus. Its cheap ingredients, the art is all in the person making it, and there is nothing you can hide. It all boils down to talent.
Fully agree with you
Wonderful video Gary. The food is lovely and the price is absolutely fine. I love these types of restaurants as you get a lot for your money. Superb.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This one made me recall a story told about the late actor Kenneth Williams' mother, Louie, a sparky lady and wit in her own right, who sadly outlived her outrageously talented son. As you know, the taste for Lebanese cuisine grew in the 1960s, and any number of such eateries began to pop up all over London. Hilariously, Mrs Williams noticed this, but mistook the word "Lebanese" for quite another entirely. "All these Lesbian restaurants", she was heard to tell a friend: "It's terrible! Wouldn't have happened when I was a girl"!
All good fun, and a little bit of social history about London. Kenneth Williams grew up on Marchmont Street in Camden, where his father, Charlie - who was part Welsh - kept a barber's shop which I believe still functions to this day, albeit under different ownership.
Glad you enjoyed your taste of the Lebanon. That food could so easily have been up there with the German doner fiasco, and shawarma has a bit of a rep. However it all looked lovely, and I wanted to reach through the screen and neck some of that humungous helping of hummus.
While we're on the subject, might I suggest you review Biagi's restaurant in Upper Berkeley Street, W1. It has associations with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, and Kenneth Williams regularly entertained his friends there, occupying table number nine, if that helps!
He also took his old mum there, apparently always choosing for her but making her pay her own bill.
All just a suggestion. In the meantime, "Carry on Gary"!
Julian I will definitely take up the recommendation I thought Kenneth was a fantastic actor and yes I’ll Carry On lol 😂
@@GaryEats good to hear. I believe the place is still in existence.
My family and I have been to Baba Ghanouj several times and they have never disappointed us. Great food, great service and good value for money.
