Did you have a PSP at launch?

I did! I still own my working PSP 1000 model. :-) Loved that little thing! Truly, it never gets touched anymore, though... because I modded my Vita and just play all of my PSP stuff on there. Some games are even improved by having that second analog stick... like Resistance: Retribution. Great little game, if you haven't played it yet. :-)

Having a modded vita is such a good way to play psp games

      Before anyone else reading this.
I was freshly college graduated and moved to Japan in 2004, and I remember placing my preorder for the Value Pack at 24800 yen (slight 180 yen discount for preorder!) and waiting in front of the store on an especially cold December morning. I also got Ridge Racers and Kollon, and checking the system information it was something like serial number something0000028, so maybe I had the 28th one for public manufacture?
I remember making videos to show people on GameFAQs, sharing how the battery life was better than most thought... Visiting family in the US for the holiday I had it at the local Gamestop and was almost swarmed by the workers and a few customers there wanting to see it... Thinking back I can now realize how huge of a leap forward it was for portable gaming and you had to be there at the time to really feel that, I think.
Still have that system and those games, later to get 5 more systems and hundreds of games for the collection, plus weird accessories, bizarre Japanese porn movies, and so much more... But to be honest I now probably adjust all the PSP stuff on its shelf more than actually play any of it!

Compared to Nintendo DS of the same era, PSP feels like 5 years ahead in handheld graphics. The build quality is super awesome and premium too.
My first game on PSP was ridge racers, solid 60 fps console class graphics.
    So sad that PSV flopped.

The original 1000 did feel pretty premium for the time. But yeah I agree, so sad that the vita flopped there was so much potential. Thanks for watching!

I got a PSP around launch and playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Infected online blew my mind. I didn't believe there were actual people on the other side of the screen at first. My first experience with online gaming. The PSP doesn't get the credit it deserves, it was ahead of it's time.

Man battlefront 2 was amazing! The first PSP game I played online was Medal of Honor heroes which was a pretty decent fps. Do you still play your psp?

Amazing video! Thank you for the nostalgia trip. My dad took me to get the PSP on launch day along with Tony Hawk. I remember accidentally taking the UMD apart and taking the disk out 😂. The PSP was truly something else and I'll always love it.

Got my first psp from my friend who sold it to me back when I was around probably 12 or 13? Loved it, just amazing at the time. Do you remember the “PSP huh?” Commercials? I still go back to those lol. They were funny and showcased the versatility of the psp. Eventually mine got bricked by my bro who tried to mod it smh man it was devastating but I got over it because I was full into the 360 at the time thank goodness.
Have always thought of buying one for nostalgias sake but it’s similar with the Dreamcast. I grew up with it and respect it but there’s not many games I know as an adult I’d like to go back and play that aren’t available elsewhere. Anyways I think with how modding has gotten easier I may pick one up, and used ones are not that unreasonably expensive. Your vids always nudge me into thinking I should just do it.
Love the vids btw bro first time commenting really enjoy the relaxed passion for gaming. Sick kings jacket as well 👍

The “psp huh” commercials were legendary I loved those too haha. The psp had some great marketing
Completely understandable, it’s sometimes hard to go back to older systems if you can play the games elsewhere. I really want to checkout out the Dreamcast but it’s just too expensive so I’ll probably end up emulating some of the heavy hitters lol
Thank you man that really means a lot, appreciate the feedback and support!!

@@FranchisePlayyer I think the best way to play psp in 2024 is with emulators
