  • The Gate Crutch is a pipe gate support hinge that can resolve all of your damaged pipe gate problems by distributing the weight in a broader area on the pipe gate itself. This hinge reduces the chance of gate damage and can even help support a gate where the pipe has already been crushed. Proudly made in the USA! You can purchase the Gate Crutch at Southern States, Flemingsburg KY 606-845-5811, Southern States, Maysville KY 606-759-0330, Rips Farm Center Tollesboro, KY 606-798-3276, Rips Farm Center Wrigy /West Liberty 606-743-7773, D & R Metal & Ag Supply, Greenup KY 888-853-3756, Gerlachs Farm & Feed Wheelersbug, Ohio 740-776-2320

I have a 20' gate that has been impossible to operate. The pins are always turning and subsequently the gate pops off.I did install 2 extra pins making a total of 4 pins attached to the post and gate . But the top pin still rolls. This might be the ticket !Thank u for your ingenuity!

I have a heavy gate, added fence pickets to it. Started with the post screws but switched to threaded rod and did turn the top down so it will tighten if turns vice up it would loosen. Did add a 3rd hinge and since heavy added a top tension wire. Bolt a 4x4 6x6, fence pipe, etc to pole/post. I did 3' higher and did a 30 60 90 triangle so the weight is helped by a gate keeper wheel where it hits the road and when the wheel no longer touches the road (slope) the cable takes all that weight and the top pin no longer budges. I can actually ride the end of the fence and it supports its weight plus mine.

If you can't weld on your gate without burning though, you either need to use gates made from thicker metal or you need to learn to be a better welder. Another option is to learn how to either weld or braze with an oxy-acetylene rig. I *wish* I was one of those welders who could weld 16-gauge stuff all day long and never get a burn through, but that's not the case. I'll have a few burn throughs no matter how hard I try, so I know my limitations and try to avoid the thin stuff. I have yet to have had a burn through when welding 3/8" or thicker steel rebar / bar stock... :) Seriously though, 1/8" wall thickness tubing is pretty safe from burn through also, but the 16-gauge, I hate... :)

Looks like an old telephone / power line pole. Often the utility company retires them after a certain number of years or if a portion of them has become damaged and they will either sell the old pole or sometimes give it away just to keep from having to haul it away.
