Well, the interesting thing is that there are accounting standards that are basically “accounting law”. So you can check them out and see if they tickle your brain the same way that legislation does

Hi :) I'm currently editing the videos for the May 2022 P2. My wife had a baby and he's currently 6 months old so all the time I had to make videos went to looking after/taking care of him. But I am trying to find a way to continue making content as I know it helps a lot of ppl who don't have access to extra lessons. The Jan 2023 P2 videos will be recorded and edited next week and be out after Easter. Honestly, I wasn't very impressed with the paper nor the May 2022 paper. Amazing work Sir. My teacher introduced me to this topic today and I'm here binge watching your videos. Just a little confusion I have concerning the last question. They wanted a partnership appropriation account for the year ended 30th June 2017. The salaries were $5,000 and $6,000 per month. For the salaries section, you multiplied $5,00 and $6,000 by 12 months . Could we have multiplied it by 6 months ?
Hi! So the question asked for the appropriation account for the YEAR ended 30 June 2017. This means the financial year ran from July 1 2016 to June 2017. A lot of students think that financial years always follow the calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31) but that’s not that case. Hope this helps.
Great video! I have a doubt though in the Harry and Ron example. I can understand that the interest on drawings are added before the appropriation. Are we assuming the interests were actually paid to company account by the partners. In the case when interests are not actually paid to the company should we be deducting the respective interests from the final appropriation of the profits (after adding the interests to the profit before appropriation as you have shown)? Hi! That’s a great question. The other video in this series which covers current accounts shows that that the other half of the interest on drawings entry is a debit to the current account. Debits to current accounts can be thought of as charges against partners’ earnings. So even if the partners don’t actually pay the interest on drawings the interest is actually taken out of their earnings via these debits. It’s like a redistribution of the earnings if you want to think of it that way. The interest owed by the partner to the partnership is taken out of their earnings via the debit to their current account and then distributed between or among all partners via the credit to the appropriation account. Hope this helps.
I have a question, here goes. If there was a partnership with Dave and Andrew, let say they started the business with 109000 and 95250 respectively. And the list of balances at Dec 31, 2020 is given. The interest is 6% per annum to be computed on the capital invested. But Andrew in August 2020 invested 35000 cash into the partnership. My question is do you have to add this capital to Andrew and when its time to do the interest on the capital for andrew will it be (6% * 95250) and (6% * 35000 * 5/12) and add the two answers together to get his overall interest ?

Hi :) I'm currently editing the videos for the May 2022 P2.
My wife had a baby and he's currently 6 months old so all the time I had to make videos went to looking after/taking care of him.
But I am trying to find a way to continue making content as I know it helps a lot of ppl who don't have access to extra lessons.
The Jan 2023 P2 videos will be recorded and edited next week and be out after Easter.
Honestly, I wasn't very impressed with the paper nor the May 2022 paper.
The quality of the exams in recent years has been dropping in my opinion.

Amazing work Sir. My teacher introduced me to this topic today and I'm here binge watching your videos. Just a little confusion I have concerning the last question. They wanted a partnership appropriation account for the year ended 30th June 2017. The salaries were $5,000 and $6,000 per month. For the salaries section, you multiplied $5,00 and $6,000 by 12 months . Could we have multiplied it by 6 months ?
Hi! So the question asked for the appropriation account for the YEAR ended 30 June 2017. This means the financial year ran from July 1 2016 to June 2017.
A lot of students think that financial years always follow the calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31) but that’s not that case.

Great video! I have a doubt though in the Harry and Ron example. I can understand that the interest on drawings are added before the appropriation. Are we assuming the interests were actually paid to company account by the partners. In the case when interests are not actually paid to the company should we be deducting the respective interests from the final appropriation of the profits (after adding the interests to the profit before appropriation as you have shown)? Hi! That’s a great question. The other video in this series which covers current accounts shows that that the other half of the interest on drawings entry is a debit to the current account.
Debits to current accounts can be thought of as charges against partners’ earnings.
So even if the partners don’t actually pay the interest on drawings the interest is actually taken out of their earnings via these debits.
It’s like a redistribution of the earnings if you want to think of it that way.
The interest owed by the partner to the partnership is taken out of their earnings via the debit to their current account and then distributed between or among all partners via the credit to the appropriation account.

I have a question, here goes. If there was a partnership with Dave and Andrew, let say they started the business with 109000 and 95250 respectively. And the list of balances at Dec 31, 2020 is given. The interest is 6% per annum to be computed on the capital invested. But Andrew in August 2020 invested 35000 cash into the partnership. My question is do you have to add this capital to Andrew and when its time to do the interest on the capital for andrew will it be (6% * 95250) and (6% * 35000 * 5/12) and add the two answers together to get his overall interest ?
I would do that as well, because the capital was not present for the entire year but only for 5 months out of 12
