Lats are hard to develop. I know it's troubling, especially when you are trap dominant. What you can try is using resistance bands that is looped over a bar and try doing arm pullovers. Try getting into a position where you don't use your triceps. You may have to play around with your positioning and angle. Keep repping it and you'll feel a burn in your lats! This will activate the lat muscle, then go straight into wide grip pull up and since your lat muscles are already activated from doing pullovers, you can really get a great lat workout from doing pull ups afterwards.
Supposedly taking the grip out helps. Straps, thumbless grip or even index finger out helps. Pre fatiguing them with straight arm pull downs seems to help a bit as the biceps normally fatigue before the lats on pull ups.

Interesting. When the pandemic started and I had to workout from home, I started doing pull-ups on the main ibeam bar in my basement, grabbing each side of that bar with each hand. Once I was able to grip properly (probably the hardest part) I put these pull-ups in my regular routine. The movement ends up being quite close to what Ryan demonstrates here, and I must say I believe I’ve experienced more lat growth in the last few months than I ever have before
I also take advantage of the I beam. However, I prefer to use supinated grip with both hands on one side of the beam and my body stays on the other side, so my head won’t be hitting the I beam. Just like doing a chin up.
I quit using the assisted pull up machine and started using resistance bands like you recommended. Today I did my workout without the bands and I managed a full working set of pull-ups for the first time ever. Fantastic advice in this video!
Just started watching your videos. 55 yrs old, 220, (yes fat) and back at it. Used to be able to do pull ups (12 years ago) Squat rack, bench, dumbbells all downstairs. No excuses. Couldn’t do a pull up to save my life. Grabbed some bands and here we are doing them. The process is into the 5th week and here we are, feeling better, sleeping better and feeling as if things are moving along. At 55 I’m under no illusion about muscle gain or massive increases. However I feel as if I can get stronger and less flabby. :-) Cheers. And thanks

Ryan, what are your thoughts on keeping constant tension in the prime movers during an exercise? Also do you believe mind-muscle connection and individual muscle control improves motor unit recruitment?
Hey. I workout from home and your videos have offered a lot of variations throughout my workout journey. Been seeing steady progress. What do you think about at home workout dvds? Power 90 is one I followed in the past and I do the body beast now. I have made some variations to the exercises because of your videos, and they feel really good. Do you think dvds are only a good starting point or are they good to follow in your daily workout routine? Maybe you could make a video with your opinions and thoughts on using dvds or the workouts they do in them. Really enjoy your content. Can't wait for the next video. Thanks!
Just my quick opinion here if I could. I used to do P90x way way back in the day when I was just a teen and if the workouts are anything like those id say....Yes theyre great for what they are and at home. However I don't think id ever go to the gym and do a workout like that or implement any of that into my routine once I got back to the gym. Just because in my opinion there are far better lifts that can be done at the gym to make real progress. The dvds only go so far and at the end of the day they are made for home use. Hope this helps!

So just in general the trap bar is like a deadlift so it will use back muscles. However because of the way you stand and hold the trap bar its going to be a lot more quad/leg focused than a regular deadlift and its also going to target the traps a tiny bit as well. Hope this could answer your question!
