Detmer wins the Heisman 6,000 miles away from where it was awarded, and because of the time difference it happened at 2PM Hawaii time, 5 hours before this game kicked off. So they celebrate that at their hotel and then have to come out and play a solid Hawaii team and they get killed in a game most of the country not only never saw, but the result didn't even make it into most newspapers the following day because it ended so late. Strange scenario.
To go from beating a #1 Miami team and being top 5 late in the season to having this type of performance… just how does that happen? One of the more shocking games in cfb history for sure.
They honored Jim Leahy and Scott Robbs this weekend at Les Murakami stadium as they should have. RIP. facebook.com/share/v/zH2mxAvRA8swtM5E/?mibextid=xfxF2i
UH fans Always got up for BYU coz Cougs used to find a way to siphon away top Hawaii talent, like #87/Micah Matsuzaki. Later, in 2001, led by June Jones w/Nick Rolovich, Chad Owens & Pisa Tinoisamoa...UH broke out the bang sticks & laid 72-45 Smack-down on Gary Crowton, Brandon Doman & Comp!...Alas tho, with the Ugly Slop that's facing current HC Timmy Chang & comp., suspect it may be awhile b4 we see this caliber of Kekoa Ikaika Anuenue football/athletics like this again! S'not gonna be Quick n Easy but it's STILL Doable!

WOW Thanks I didn't know that but that is Wild 😁😂😏👍💯✝️🙏🙋♂️
God I love those Hawaii logos and uniforms...
I was a huge Tye Detmer fan and I never knew this beat down happened. Also.. RIP Colt Brennan
UH beat them badly 2 years in a row. Payback for all those close losses in the 70's-80's.
This game is legendary in Hawaii. Will never forget it. Good times. Thank you for posting this.
Of course, my brother is in it!
I would have been at it, but I was deep in the jungles of Panama. Getting ready for Operation Just Cause.
I remember being at this game. Tailgating near the parking lot at Ice Palace. And throwing streamers made from newspaper. Those were the days.
The great Jim Leahey putting on full display why he was one of the best to ever hold a mic
Make Hawaii Rainbow Warrior Football Great Again!!!
Still have mine rainbow 🌈 jacket and hat from the 1990 love the logo and look
Its a shame that Hawaii doesn't wear these uniforms anymore. I think they're so much better than their black and green ones now
Huge BYU fan the Rainbow Warriors always bring it to my Cougars.
@ 2:46.30--"59 points is the most ever scored against BYU..EVER!"...Until 2001 Rainbow Warriors dropped 72!-lol....RIP, Pops
Hawaii was always playing BYU at weird times. It was like 3 in the morning when they played this.
Paul Johnson can shred defenses; the Triple option is still good.
24 INTs WOW
Think Sydner made NFL on this & 1989 games. Definitely KILLED Detmer's celebration....

Awesome game especially called by Hawaii’s own Jim Leahey! Now Kanoa gets his chance.
RIP Jim Leahy
UH jerseys are so beautiful back here.
Thanks for posting this!
Best UH game EVER, PERIOD...aloha
It was a good game but not as great as the 56-14 thrashing the year before.
Damn, i dont know whats more shocking? That byu was #4 or that Hawaii beat a top 5 team!
Byu could've had a shot at the national title if they won this game. With the crazy 90 season were a 10-1-1 team won the title!
Colorado won the AP poll national title and Georgia Tech won the Coaches’ poll national title.
2:17:46 whoa what a lucky play

Remember this game. Yeah, I'm old. How can any football team get beat down by a team called the Rainbows?
Would love to see these two in pac12
Boy, Hawaii, the worst place in the world to end a season. Notre Dame, with really great team, barely survived the following year 48-42.
Guillermo Barrio BYU 90 and 01. This year I hope is not the same for BYU.
True. I was on that UH football team. I think we scored 21 points in the 2nd half or 4th qtr that game. Jerome Bettis was a beast for Notre Dame, too.
BYU never had this feeling of a rivalry EVER, nonetheless they enjoyed your competition.
We know, but for us it was like the ant biting the giants toe, and he falls down, plus we have people there. Like playing g inter-island.
