mahalo very much for putting up this game now Heikoti's kids can watch their dad's playing, I remember this game very well, it was the most exciting game the Rainbow ever played, the defense was awesome, everyone were awesome, thank you again and much alohas
This is awesome to find on RUclips. I actually attended this game at Aloha Stadium! It was an amazing win for University of Hawaii. The entire week or so leading up to the game, everybody kept saying that Hawaii was gonna get steamrolled under the Big 10's Iowa. At the end you would have thought that HI won the national championship....we had such a good time at that game... and Jim Leahy was a great sportscaster as well as game commentator at that time.
Well, "No. 1 Iowa" proved to not be as formidable that 1988 season as first thought, because the underachieving Hawkeyes finished at 6-3-3. Conversely, Hawaii was vastly underrated that year; picked to finish 7th in the WAC, the Rainbows went 9-3 and finished 3rd behind champion Wyoming and runner-up BYU.
@@randydubin7118, Sports Illustrated picked Iowa No. 1 in its preseason preview issue, with Nebraska as No. 2. AP was more circumspect, ranking the Hawkeyes No. 9 in its preseason poll. Anyway you cut it, it was a great Hawaii victory that forecast the respective fortunes of both programs that season. There's no reason to be verbally abusive - but then, that's probably just the way you roll, even when you don't know what the fck you're talking about, isn't it? I bet you even blame and beat the dog when you fart.
@@randydubin7118 XD, obviously didn't watch the game and listen to the announcers, and even then, you obviously know absolutely nothing about college football with an asinine comment like that.
Jason Elam…What a weapon…
He was a bomber!..Hawaii’s first win against a top ten team.
I had forgotten about that great UH running back, Heikoti Fakava. Quick and powerful! Thanks for the post.
Jason Elam, the king of kickers at Hawai'i. A proven Super Bowl Champion with Denver. #legend.

I was a medical student at UH at the time and loved the huge upset victory for the bows!

Donald Koelper *WEEK 01*, moron.
And under the current rules, they bowl and would most likely win their bowl game to finish 10-3. This was a solid year for Bob Wagner back then.
