- Here, I'll try to explain how I make Playermodels & NPCs in Garry's Mod. Despite me explaining some stuff, this isn't really a beginner tutorial. But hey, if you like seeing characters being brought into other games like Gmod, welcome! Stick around!

It'd be extremely useful to have a full blown tutorial like this. All of the documentation and tutorials for making character mods is extremely old and difficult to follow, and.. is using 3DS Max for some reason

I have a question. What should I do if my bones are in this state? And what if the eyes are also not a texture model?
Is there a certain way you're supposed to export the physics file? I've followed this guide to the letter, everything else with my playermodel/ragdoll works, except for the ragdoll. It doesn't appear on death for an NPC, when its spawned its invisible and cant be touched by a phys gun (and it always teleports to the same point on the map?), and if I die with the PM equipped I just get stuck in a tpose. I've troubleshooted for days and have thoroughly determined its the 'character_physics.smd' file thats causing this, any tips would be appreciated

14:11 i know this might just need some messing around with the .qc but i have a full animation edited and (hopefully) registered (there's no errors) and yet it still doesn't do anything to the animation.
How can I make animations for characters that use different proportions? I pose them in blender, and export from there, but then they look messed up in model viewer and in GMod. I feel like this has something to do with the proportion trick, but how do I get around it?
My model is smaller than the base model, and because of this, the arms and legs of the body are all stretched, what is the reason?

Hello! Where can I find the female player model? It's just that I also want to add one character to Gmod, but I just can't find a female player model to take a skeleton from her.
I got stuck on turning the textures to vtf's, they arent compiling with my model or whatever

What did you put in the qc file to reference the output.smd and make the proportions take effect? I'm not able to find out where to put it. Great tutorial btw!!

Male.
You can use male skeletons for PMs, NPCs, and Hostile NPCs without issues.
Females will stretch if used for Hostile NPCs.

In ragdoll already had bones , i don't know after apply [ Should i delete old bones? weight name there so many old & new bones ] ( not l4d ragdoll )
Button have little ButtonBigBall bone [ Should i delete ? ] After deleting my ragdoll was also deleted
Anims file inside is not ragdoll.smd , it's idle.smd [ What is this? ]
Rotation constraint on bone "ValveBiped.Bip01_L_Thigh" which has no parent ( ''I'm stuck here right now'' , already Armature Deform With Automatic Weights ) and ( Apply > Rotation & Scale ) ( $rootbone same error ) [ How do i fix this bug? ]

So if a model already has bones you can add hl2 bones to it, thats good. Because i found a model it has a lot of bones so i can just attach the hl2 bones to it? And then i can turn it into a playermodel?

Well, yes and no.
Your model having bones already is good since that means your character already has their limbs rigged - which basically means the model knows what part of the body moves with which bone.
We don't just want to add the skeletons, as your model's bones are all rotated differently to the HL2's bones. That can cause broken animations.
We rename the bones to match the HL2 bones' names so that when we swap skeletons, the model knows which bones it follows. Then just take the extra bones from your model's old skeleton and add them on the HL2 skeleton.

How are you snapping bones?
Press Shift Tab or click a small magnet icon to enable/disable Snapping. You can then change the snapping by selecting the arrow next to the magnet icon and select Vertex. This will allow the bones to snap, but the bones will only snap to other bones of another armature/skeleton, not its own armature.
