  • @MrMunneke

    Spray paint them, easier faster and you can get a good finish, just make sure you have plenty ventilation and plenty dust sheets surrounding the area, finish off by under coating and glossing the hand rail for harder wear.

    Also the amount of time that you wil spend going round each one a line of frog tape damped with a cloth to seal the line will end up costing less in time and will look 10x sharper

    Working through your videos which are all great as is the advice you give, one question i want to ask is, I am decorating my hall and landing, linning paper. Would you paint woodwork before papering or paper before paint? Keep the vids coming.

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks, if your putting a finished paper on then you should line and paint woodwork then apply finished paper. If your painting your lining paper then do the woodwork last, apply lining paper first then emulsion walls and then undercoat gloss woodwork.

    i know this vid is 4 years old. but im doing the same job now. sanded the handrails, varnished them. about to paint newel posts, spindles. have used BIN primer on the newel posts as i sanded them right down. on the spindles, i havent. can i just recoat them with satin finish, after keying? thought it would be a quick job..it isnt :) as have to match the skirting board, and the triangle wood bits under the spindles ( which meet the stairs, dont know there name.) oh and btw, your videos, are extremely helpful, detailed, so ignore any "experts" telling u what you're doing wrong.

    Hi again, I am getting on ok with the spindles, 2 coats of undercoat done and just to top coat with Satinwood white. My handrail is pine , same as the spindles. I've been told that because it is a soft wood, the mahogany varnish finish won't look good. Is your handrail pine or a hardwood ? So, I might just do it all white if the finish doesn't look as good as yours. I am trying it on a spare piece of pine rail first. Thank you for your help.

      Hi it's actually pine in the video... also satinwood is self undercoating as such... prime bare wood then two or three coats of satinwood.. only gloss needs undercoat... and sometimes with a good sand you can gloss on top of gloss.

      Well to be honest as long as you seal the knots you could thin some eggshell with white spirit for the first coat and two coats of eggshell straight. But better to seal the knots, then use a wood primer for softwood then two coats of eggshell.
