  • This is a pretty thorough video on how to install a front and rear dash camera system in a 2023-2024 Honda CR-V. Go Niners, too bad they lost the Bowl. This is the system I used in the installation, along with the power cables.

On my 2015 CRV used a piece of 12 or 14 gauge electric wire (with cut end protected with electrical tape) rather than a pilot drill bit to snake through the rubber boot in the lift gate. I also wet the cable a bit with water and a little Dawn dishwashing detergent reduce the friction.
I’m about to install on the 2025 I just got and I’ve been getting cold feet pulling the interior apart as I did on the 2015. Thanks for the video hep.

New cars are easier. Lol. Whatever works. Even if you wanna spit on the wire..🤣🤣🤣

For those using the “fuse splitter” (or whatever they’re called) in the fuse box as I did, make sure you plug it in with the tail oriented on the load side of the fuse socket.
With the splitter plugged in with the right orientation, It splits the fuse box hot to go to both fuses in the splitter with the original fuse going back to its load side in the box (as before) and the camera fuse going to the tail.
If you plug the splitter in 180 degrees off, the effect is that the original fuse still connects to its load side as before, but the camera fuse is now in series (that is, after) the original fuse.

Awesome video dude! Im going to try this weekend. But, you did not connect to the BCM? You just plugged into the fuse?

I wanted to do it as if it were you guys doing it, not a professional. Most of the stuff that comes in the box is meant to be for a diyer. So I have been doing it that way so I can appeal to whoever is attempting it. Listen man, there is a method to my madness..🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪..nice screen name..🤣🤣🤣

@@richideates you made it easy by just using the fuse box. That's what I'm going to do lol. And thanks for pointing out which fuses to use as well! I did not want to mess with the BCM.

I had no problem locating power, but I'm hesitant to pull off the trim trying to locate a good ground point... Are those trim pieces easily removed and replaced?
    THANKS!

On a Honda, yes. But which trim exactly are you referring to?

  • @jhamaker

I just installed the version that fits behind the mirror in my car. I've never done anything like this and amazed at how easy it was.
Getting the wire through the rubber boot doesn't require any kind of guide. Just shove it in, compress the boot and hold the connector as you let the boot expand. Took about 30 seconds to feed it through doing this.

So what your saying is..I shouldnt have wasted my time making the video?? 🤪🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣

@@richideates not at all. Showing how to route the wire, pull back the door trim, etc was very valuable. I just used a different method to get the connector through the boot. Also, I mentioned your video in my review of the camera.

When routing the cables across the pillars should you be concerned with interfering with the curtain airbags? I'm not sure how all that works, but I'm about to do this same install and was wondering?

    • @richideates
      @richideates  4 месяца назад

Well if you go across the stretch of the vehicle, no, I wouldnt be. When you come around the pillar by the windshield, thats a toss up. I say no dont worry because the wire is so thin. But some people argue that and say you should go behind the airbag. I just put up another video for the Grand Highlander I just did. Go look at that one because I didnt go behind the airbag in the CRV. I say it doesnt matter either way, but it can be arguement to some people. The airbag practically "explodes" open, so a thin wire like that stands no chance to not break. BUT, you shouldnt think about getting into an accident of that magnitude. Its not good thoughts. Lol

So where you see the radio thru the hole where you pulled the rubber tubing out of the rear window, I cannot see thru it as it is all enclosed on my 2022 crv. I was hoping to pull the cable thru like you did but see no way of getting thru to the other side without drilling or poking a hole thru the plastic that’s stopping me from seeing thru like yours

@@richideates I did, it was still covered by some plastic covering though. It was thin so I could see light thru it when shining a flashlight, so I just drilled a small hole thru it, ran the cable thru it, pulled it thru, and put the panel back. So other than that, everything was the same. That just threw me off a little at first. Your video was EXTREMELY helpful! Thanks for posting it!

Not sure. But yes. It is 1 and 14. Not sure what they are for but funny enough. I paused the video on the fuse diagram under the steering wheel cover to see what number the fuse was. I cant make out what their for through the video.
