This is not an everyone sucks situation at all the mil STOLE her ring. You can’t take the ring “to get cleaned” and then pretend you don’t remember for weeks. She’s a thief and 100% in the wrong. The issue is the fiancé is clearly not standing up for OP. The story and funny and just proves what the MIL actually did. She’s toxic and should not have a key to the house.

Y’all have completely missed the point here. No matter what MIL’s intentions were with the ring (which were obviously malicious), the ring was NOT HERS TO TAKE. She took it without consent. You can’t kidnap a child and then be like, “I was just taking them out for ice cream; I was bringing them right back!” Whether she was trying to hide the ring to create drama or having diamonds added to it, she should not have taken the ring without permission.

NTA!! The MIL is clearly 100% in the wrong. In reality this was theft - no way around that. Taking an item that is not yours without permission is by definition theft. The fact that MIL couldn't produce a name or receipt for the jeweler is clear proof. She knew that if she made up or gave a name of an actual jeweler the OP would find out about her lie immediately. And as for the whole curse thing, it is hard to take a thief's superstitions seriously - it just becomes comedic.

Doesn't matter if the MIL really got the ring cleaned or not, it's theft because the owner did not consent to it. If I took my neighbors car, it doesn't matter if I took it through the car wash, I still stole it. The MIL should be grateful that the lady made up a curse instead of calling the cops. And I believe her fiancée should stand by her side even if it was petty. Let the MIL think she's cursed, she was going to find a reason to hate the daughter in law anyway, might as well be a fun one.

I disagree with Lauren on this one. The mil was being sketchy and dodging the question, when she could have (and would have if it were true) easily proven that she was getting it cleaned. Why did she not get her own son’s ring “cleaned” as well? Why would the husband not find this questionable? The couple has chosen to be with each other, not the mother. The husband would not be justified in not believing his wife.

  • @jawsehlin

Why did the MIL even take the ring to begin with? Since when is it acceptable to just walk into
Someone’s home and take stuff? The fiancé should’ve called his mom out for it I’m the first
Place. She shouldn’t have had to go to such measures but it sounds like she knew her fiancé probably wouldn’t have told his mom anything. This is what toxic MIL do. They do messed up

there's also a million other stories that OP posts about that just no mil, eventually ending with the mil admitting she wants to sleep with her own son and getting arrested. Not the AH😂 she would not have obliged to reason. She wanted to take her ring, that’s all. Sometimes, you gotta play dirty. OP’s husband needs to stand up, and they need to change the locks and set boundaries. Completely CHANGE them. My IL kept hiding keys to our house when we first got married, so everytime we got one from them, they’d have a backup. Not cool. We changed the locks after they house sat for our late honeymoon, so they would never have a reason to have the keys nor be able to again because we had NEVER agreed to that.

NTA- throughout this story, i’ve been constantly thinking about to previous story times where the MIL takes the wedding dress and wears it (stretches out). in that story, the MIL definitely was wearing the dress and living out the emotional incest fantasy of marrying her own son through the perspective of his fiancée. now with that thought process, in this story all i could think was that the MIL took the ring so she could live out her fantasy of marrying her son, feeling as though she was the fiancée. she took the ring knowing it went missing when she was at their home, dragged out the process of the ring being cleaned. if the ring was to get lost, her son and the fiancée would get mad at the mother and freak out for taking her belongings. the MIL was going to return the ring eventually because if she kept it, she would’ve been the one to get in trouble; it would literally cause anarchy. why else would the MIL take the ring when she wasn’t there ? she most likely was wearing the ring when she wasn’t home and then eventually just wanted more time with the ring. i’m even betting the MIL out on her old wedding dress and wore the ring her son got her fiancée. i couldn’t see the story as the mother wanting to withhold the ring, it felt just like it was dancing around emotional incest.

I don't think there's any question here. This woman went through her stuff and took her engagement ring without permission! Even if she had taken it to get cleaned, in what universe is it okay for someone to go into your room, go through your stuff and take an expensive, sentimental piece of jewelry! And then have the audacity to say with no shame, " oh don't remember what jeweler I brought it too"? I would have demanded right then and there that she drive me to the jeweler and get it back! It takes less than an hour to clean a ring. This monster in law is nucking futs!!!!!!!

Where was the fiancé - the MIL's son? in all this. Why didn't he ask about the location of the missing ring when she was not wearing it for days?

Kay jewelers did that to me. I got a white gold ring and got something else back. It looked the same but was not gold at all

No the daughter in law does not suck at all. Why would she take her ring without asking in the first place??? And she did not notify you at all. I’m not sure why she’s marrying into that family.

The question is whether or not she is the asshole. NO. The mother-in-law forced her hand, and if the son doesn't see that, then he's in the wrong too.

Yes I remember back then my mom took her ring to the shop to see if it was real they took it to the back and then gave it to my mom when we were leaving we noticed one of the metal lil pieces were out of place and bent back… my dad was beyond mad at my mom and them for doing what they did

There are 2 options, one explain the situation as it was exactly to the fiancé or go to the MIL and ask her to have a chat. And talk it out with her. She won’t agree right away. But if approached correctly this might workout

The MIL needed that. What was she doing with the ring anyways? Not sure what she was trying to accomplish. OP fought weird with weird lol. Sad part is she's gonna have to put up with her forever.. yikes

The amount of people taking the ESH stance surprises me… At the end of the day, there was no curse. It was a fairytale and MIL had a car accident. If she won the lottery instead, it would have been just as related to OP, as in not at all related. MIL is just causing trouble.

  • @Blackhairmlssimp
    @Blackhairmlssimp 2 года назад

Maybe she stole the ring to change the diamond for a fake one. And OP is not an asshole at all. If she MIL didn't touch the ring OP wouldn't create a fake story
