i have one.....bought it one year ago, i also bought an attenuattor since the volumen was too much without it. i have a question maybe you can help me. HOW DO I FIND THE SWEET SPOT hahaha i love the sound but it gives too much feedback in the room. i have a 4x12 oversized mesa cab . can´t control feedback only if the attenuattor is on and retains most of the volume. .... i appreciate your video . thanks a lot
you have to know what you're doing when dialing in the MB amps since the dials and EQ are so sensitive. ruclips.net/video/g2l9kv8bGD8/видео.html This one is dialed in (Mark V 25w)
That sound will be completely drowned out in a mix. That kind of trebily sound has zero cut. That's the classic mistake. People don't understand why you need midrange and presence. It had that awful buzzy sound of a Metal Zone pedal.
I use my jp2c on the third floor of my apartment building at night almost every night. Now I do have a thick foam backed isolation board between the cab and the floor to decouple the cab from the floor minimizing bass transmission to the downstairs neighbor. But to my ear it sounds fantastic at low volume, which is shocking because every other high wattage Mesa I have owned sounds terrible at low volume.
I'm literally two days away from buying this ampilfer and this was one of my main questions. Thank you so much....hardly any one does these kind of demos.
Good idea for a video. This amp, like most Mark series amps does low volume well. The tone you are getting in this video is really not to my liking and not a good representation of how good this amp can sound. Really fizzy, thin, and harsh to my ears.
Thanks. After I did the recording, I wasn't 100% happy with the overall tone, but like you said, the recordings do give a good representation of the difference in levels.
Squidward's Testicles It is definitely an eq thing, but the vintage 30 speaker does not help that fizzy situation. If a Mesa cab, the widebody closed back 90W would be the best single 12 choice. Try a DV Mark Neoclassic 112 with this or a Mark V head. Epic.
I've futzed with the JP2C at lower volumes, but I think it just sounds incredible at about 9-10 o'clock setting (on both 100w and 60w, but more so on 100w) on the volume. This is usually where I have it set when I jam at home (even late at night, lol), but occasionally I'll roll it back a little further just a hair. It does lose the MMPH a bit as you roll back the volume because it's not pushing as much air, but I still believe the overall tonal quality and EQ are there. I gig and practice with it, and find myself actually cranking it at gigs. Obviously, you have to EQ it correctly and make sure the high end fuzz is not in the tone, but this amp shines at all volumes, and I can attest to that. I live in a small apartment. Thanks for the video! Perhaps try a better EQ setting for next time? Like someone said, the tone very fizzy and kind of piercing. :X don't mean any offense by that.
Thanks for the input. I really couldn't agree with you more. I definitely could have played around with the EQ and gain and such for this video. The pickups on the guitar I used are super aggressive, and not what I normally use. Sometimes I'm a touch too lazy. Thanks for the feedback though.
Nice demo. I use my JP2C at low volumes when others are home. IMO, its low volume tone beats my MkIV. I can only wind it up when the wife isn't home unless I feel like getting yelled at.
Thanks for that comparison! I was wondering about the JP2C at low volumes compared to the Mark IV, because I have found the Mark IV to be really great at low volume, and if the JP2C beats that, then you might have just sold me on this amp!
Volume shouldn't really be changed between 100 and 60 watts. It's entirely to do with compression. But anyone who records regularly should be using a torpedo and their power soak/impulse response abilities. The worst bit of playing a valve amp at home is how much air a 12" speaker needs to push to make a good sound in the same way a person's diaphragm has no body, character or clarity unless you push. So really you need to use IR's instead of a smaller speaker.
i have a totally different question buddy : is that Jpc have an high clean ( crystal clean ) headroom and volume to play in band ? i mean, an high volume to play with a drummers and others musicians, but staying crystal clean ? thank you ! ^^
Yes, it does. I don't have a problem getting it nice and loud on the clean channel with our full band. I wouldn't lie though, it only has a little bit of headroom left before it starts to break up.
I had the Jp2c whit 1x12 Mesa cab, switch to 2x12 Mesa, imho the volume for the two gain channels, below the 9 o’clock, were awful: boxy, like a towel in front of the speaker, at high volume, it was impossible to stay in the room, too loud. Maybe it was mine had a problem...
Cool video... I like that you used the looper to avoid changes from playing style. Have you ever tested other amps this way? To those complaining about the tone you had, I'd like to know if they're listening to the video through a decent setup, or just playing it through their crappy phone speakers?
Changing the speakers to a lower wattage speaker type makes a HUGE difference. I actually think the V30s are NOT a good speaker until you turn them up and push them. Try a G12M25 or G12H30 and it’ll sound awesome. I run my IIC++ HRG into a G12H30 4x12” cab and it sounds great at lower volumes.
Buy yourself a Torpedo Live / Studio Loadbox and play at 11'o clock volume on the JP2C but with a headphone on the Torpedo. BTw, you do have a CabClone in there.
run a volume pedal thru the effects....the last if in series to effects pedals.......now crank that amp to 10 o'clock....slowly turn up the volume on the pedal.....BINGO! (or, JHS Little Black Amp Box Passive Amp Attenuator...$65)
There is no MESA amp, especially this JP2C will sound good (as it should) at low volumes, all Mark series amps vol needs to be t min 3 and up for the tubes to open up and make the amp roar. At low volumes it doesn't sound as tight as an EVH would. Its not the amps fault, its just how it is by design. Legit comment from an owner.
What do you think about the JP-2C at low volumes? Have you used this amp in tight living situation? Tell us about it!
sounds like bumble bees., BBBzzzzzzzz

To be honest, what a bad tone.
he almost has it dialed in for black metal, eugh.
Yeah, way too much treble
you have to know what you're doing when dialing in the MB amps since the dials and EQ are so sensitive.

That foam isolation board is a great idea!
@@ManBunMetalHead the JP2C is Mesa's GOAT.

No problem man, glad I can help! Enjoy this beast!
Man Bun Metal Head I very much plan on it! Lol
New Video Title: "How to sound like a crap 10W Fender Frontman on a $ 2,900 MESA JP-2C"

Dual Rectos and marks can sound harsh and fizzy, it is common thing with messas.
Sting Carlsson nah, that’s just the way he has it set

Definitely has that bumble bee sound at low volumes, what attenuator would suit it best?

Thanks. Haven't had the luck of playing a Mark IV myself, but good to know.
What an annoying thing wives are...

1:36 you mean a little bit LESS headroom?
Song: Dream Theater - Beyond This Life
Hey I was your 10,000th viewer on this video.
Congrats! Thanks for letting me know I hit 10k on this vid!

Love the tone man! Pure Mesa right there! My holy grail metal amp!

HELL YEAH , I play mine low volume all the time , I do use A FRACTAL fx8 with dirt on the clean channel , it freking sings

To those complaining about the tone you had, I'd like to know if they're listening to the video through a decent setup, or just playing it through their crappy phone speakers?
Thanks. I haven't done any other videos. I don't have access to too many amps and I'm not sure there are many people interested content like this.
Changing the speakers to a lower wattage speaker type makes a HUGE difference.

Attenuation?
what was the song you were playing from dream theater?
Beyond This Life off the Scenes From A Memory album
I think I'll stick with my Axe FX2. It's a dream come true for low volume bedroom players
Buy yourself a Torpedo Live / Studio Loadbox and play at 11'o clock volume on the JP2C but with a headphone on the Torpedo. BTw, you do have a CabClone in there.
Am I the only one that can't tell the difference? I think everything sounds good!
No,you’re the only one that doesn’t analyze it for days trying to come up with a conclusion
What about the mark V 35?
silly question it's a jp2c demo
Is that guitar an alembic?
As awesome as that would be, it is not. I actually made it myself a few years ago.
Crank the bass up
good job .
Thanks!
The treble is what's killing the tone.
run a volume pedal thru the effects....the last if in series to effects pedals.......now crank that amp to 10 o'clock....slowly turn up the volume on the pedal.....BINGO! (or, JHS Little Black Amp Box Passive Amp Attenuator...$65)

Cable up a volume pedal in the Effects loop....😎👍
PS - what riffs are those?
ruclips.net/video/jdxc22GWNiA/видео.html this song....
What a terrible tone from such a wonderful amp
Please let me buy this from you
That Video is excellent. You check alle the boxes for sub :) Great Job!
Or you could just get an attenuator
This sounds awful at all volume levels, what a shit tone man. I have the JP2C and it sounds nothing like this at low volume.
