On the Hood of my cub73 I used Rust-Oleum bare metal primer then 2 cans of Fast dry Colorplace White from Walmart $2.48 per can & it looks Original. I did sand it with 800 grit after the 1st can it drys super fast between coats & just used painters tape over the original decals turned out perfect.

Wow... For $2.48 a can I may have to try that experiment myself. I do know that the there's an "old" white and a "new" white so may not work for every model.

@@miguelsalami I read up on this a little and your shade of white is a little more white than what mine should be. 😆 Apparently you have "901" white, and mine would be "935" white. I think the stuff from the '90s and onward is yet another shade of white that is even more beige.
Soo... A good tip for sure for the guys with pre-1970 tractors. Probably not a good match for we folks with wide frames.
That said... for $3 I'm still going to get a can and see what it looks like.

@@TheBrokenLifeI will say it dries much faster than regular spray can paint. After sanding I had to go much slower & overlap to get a smooth finish without any dry areas. The final finish is a Semi gloss so if you want a high gloss finish you will have to clear coat it.

Love the 149 videos. I’m watching them all tonight. Great content. My dad owned a 149 when I was growing up. It was my first tractor when I built my house and I sold it. Big regret.

I'm just trying to match tractor supply brands magic quarts of their cub yellow to a spray can, That way i can spray small parts with the rattle can instead of breaking out the spray gun and dealing with the cleaning. its a nightmare, and i didn't tear the whole tractor apart to not have it match as far as paint goes!!

Forget MAGIC BRAND PAINT. it MAGIC-LY changes color within a few months.
All the Magic colors fade within 6 months and takes days to dry.
Valspar - Transportation Yellow, IH White are a good colors if you can find it!!!
Rust-oleum FARM Cat yellow, sold in LOWES, & Rust-oleum their Antique White sold at Walmart is a perfect match'.
Federal Yellow is School Bus Yellow is Cat Yellow is Transport Yellow, all good! different manufactures use different names but these are the same color yellow.

No, just a few parts here any there. If I were going to do an entire tractor, I'd be pretty tempted to have the paint custom mixed and shoot it with a gun. I think it would be a lot less expensive in the long run.
