I totally agree. I think that will arrive with Matter. There is no way Matter will add cameras and not add support beyond 1080P. Most companies already support 2K or 4K that aren't in Apple Home.
Apple needs to come out with their own smart light switches. Smart switches are the most common/frequent products used in a smart home. Smart displays seem like a complete waste of time when you have a smart phone in your pocket wherever you go.
I’m still using an Apple AirPort Router in my house. Do you think that I should stick with it for a little longer, or should I buy something new like a Ubiquity Router? The AirPort still has pretty good speeds though.
Great video, I've been into HomeKit since day one and always looking for new devices and Matter has really helped.. I was also a big AirPort fan until they killed it. It's too late to go back to any new AirPort products, there's too much competition. I've gone all in in Unifi gateways, camera's and access points which is superior to the old AirPorts.
I think Apple has a unique opportunity for its routers. I can sell them in its stores and you wouldn't believe the number of people who come and just buy at the Apple Store based on that recommendation, even if there is a Best Buy 5 minutes away. The second thing I'd say is Matter is just launching with it. So It make sense for Apple to be one of the very first to support Matter which would have very little competition. Finally, it could offer additional services through iCloud like expanding its parental controls to other devices, whole-home VPN through Private Relay, or remote connectivity to your home desktop (like Back to My Mac) used to offer.
I do like Apple’s products, and I like Apple’s approach to automation and security through Home … but unless it’s significantly cheaper than Apple’s cheapest iPad, then I’m not sure I see the point of a Home-centric smart display.
Interesting convo on "futures" ... but one thing is that typically has little to no interest in any product where the market is commoditized ... this applies specifically to actual TV displays and also network routers. Having said that, one may ask why then do they sell HomePod speakers ... the answer is because is an essential element to easily integrate into the entire eco-system in the home across all other products that support AirPlay, so that is a special case, IMHO.
They kind of are, but depends on where you look and what you're in the market for. If you want the basic smart home essentials -- door lock, lights, switches, plugs, etc -- there are a ton of Matter options out there. If you are waiting for cameras or appliances, we're still a few years away.
@@AppleInsider That is it "kind of are". I will wait until I can have all of the devices support the matter protocol. Would be like not having a host computer be able to use TCP/IP at all. Could you sell that to the public?
I disagree. You will never have ALL devices support it because there will always be new things. Music Boxes? Plant sensors? in-home sprinkler systems? Fireplace logs? lawn mowers? Mail boxes? If you wait for "every" device you will be waiting forever.
Apple Home suffers from limited automation features and reliability issues. While basic automations are possible, Apple Home lacks many essential capabilities, such as multiple triggers, duplicating automations to create similar ones, and the ability to search for automations, among others. Although Apple Home supports a wide range of devices, either natively or through third-party bridges like Homebridge and Home Assistant, the introduction of Matter has yet to resolve these limitations. Matter devices offer similar functionality but are often more expensive, making the cost-to-benefit tradeoff less appealing.
Lots of things in there but to address a couple of them, you can definitely get a lot more options, like multiple triggers, by using third party apps for HomeKit. As for reliability, I think it depends. I don't have them at all -- and I even run the betas! it could be one of many, many factors like the devices themselves, the layout of your home, your WI-Fi connect/speed, etc.
@@AppleInsider Yeah, that's true. Unfortunately, we have to rely on third-party apps and integrations because native Apple Home lacks many essential features. For instance, it doesn’t support dummy switches like Homebridge or helpers found in Home Assistant. As for reliability, it can vary depending on the situation, but when you have a lot of devices and automations, some automations or triggers could be occasionally ignored. I had to switch from using a HomePod mini to an Apple TV to improve reliability and resolve these issues but not perfrect still.
To truly capitalize on the increased presence in the Home space, Apple should start by reintroducing updated Airport Extreme and Airport Express devices. Beyond that, I envision an Apple mesh network, cameras, possibly a doorbell, motion sensors and/or a security system powered by Apple Intelligence. The possibilities are endless, as many people would prefer to maintain the Apple brand across all their devices.
The unintended review for the lavalier you are wearing is clear, sound is muffled and compressed, share the brand so we know what not to buy edit: now I can see is DJI, good cameras, bad mics
A lot of people love them, but this is the second time someone complained about their audio quality. I'm not an audio person so hard for me to say why or if there is an adjustment to make. I have wanted to try the new DJI ones though! Maybe they're better?

I have a lot of Apple stuff but my three 6e Eeros have Matter support and I use them to operate my lights and thermostat plus view my Blink cameras outside already and I REALLY don't want a camera following me around the room so I'll pass on Apple's version of the Amazon Echo Show 10. I'm the only one in the house so there's only one person who is ever doing any of the laundry list of things you mentioned. For a busy large family I could see that being more valuable but after 6 years living in my first house I know having a voice telling me my dishwasher cycle is almost done, my clothes are dry or I'm running low on something in the refrigerator just isn't necessary. In fact I'm about to banish my Homepod to the guestroom because it just won't learn that I don't want it to respond in the kitchen when I hold my phone in front of me while I'm on the other side of the house.
Disclaimer. I’ve worked in IT for decades. I’m 67 and heard all the promises of home automation come, fail, get dropped. Google, Alexa, Apple, Eve, Hue… and many more all in my home. All the promises of systems working together seamlessly? Mesh, Matter, etc. Sure, you can get them working together. But not easily and certainly not reliably.
But what will they offer that we don't already have? I'm an Apple man, but in reality they stopped being innovative when SJ died. All you talk about I already have running in my home, and home kit is really not good against other manufacturers solutions 😅 What I see Apple is doing these days are mainly launching half good products with a promise on things to come, but that isn't ready at launch. I badly want to upgrade my iPhone, but each year I hope that this is the year they will innovate again, but no..
That hurts… I’m super proud of this video and was a ridiculous amount of time compiling all the rumors we’ve covered for the past 8-12 months on all these and how they work together. I talk smart home all the time and it’s huge!
I felt it was the exact opposite. Everything he said was about new upcoming things, what they can do, what they’ll be like, how they work together. The reasoning behind why Apple is working on this, bringing credence to the leaks. Pictures of the leaks. Insightful comments. Man must’ve had a bad day. Or bad life.

I just want 4K support on Apple Home
I totally agree. I think that will arrive with Matter. There is no way Matter will add cameras and not add support beyond 1080P. Most companies already support 2K or 4K that aren't in Apple Home.
It’s time for Apple to use machine learning to limit the amount of clicks I do daily for then same functions.
I hope to see some indoor/cameras
Apple's will be at least indoor! Idk about outdoor!
I would like to learn more about matter and how it is helping and how matter and Apple are helping each other.
A starting a matter bases network for HomeKit would be great
It would be really cool if they combined airport and HomePod, so that you had wifi and audio hotspots throughout your house.
I speculated that very thing on the podcast! I think it would be great to have speakers that double as mesh extensions!
Apple needs to come out with their own smart light switches. Smart switches are the most common/frequent products used in a smart home. Smart displays seem like a complete waste of time when you have a smart phone in your pocket wherever you go.
I’m waiting for an updated iPad Pro with includes Wi-Fi 7 before I buy one.
I'm so bummed they didn't have Wi-Fi 7 earlier this year.
I’m still using an Apple AirPort Router in my house. Do you think that I should stick with it for a little longer, or should I buy something new like a Ubiquity Router? The AirPort still has pretty good speeds though.

What if next gen of homepad is the new airports, and HomePod mini become the new airports express ?
I, too, miss the AirPort and TimeCapsule.
I can’t wait for apple to release new smart home devices with apple intelligence support
