Ren - Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve)
#Ren #BittersweetSymphony #TheVerve
Much love to all of you!!! As always here's the lyrics for anyone who wants them!
I’ve got dirt on my reeboks from staying out all night,
I spent my last ten pounds on this pack of Marlborough Lights
I called up Stevie, I said “G ,you alright?”
He said “It’s six in the morning brother! Get some shut eye!”
I feel a sense of wellbeing this time in the morning
Wear my heart out on my hoodie while the city is snoring
Drunks falling off the sidewalks get issued a warning
Distant sirens they crescendo like a symphony calling
This it the Britain I know
This is the Britain I love
There’s poetry inside this city if you listen enough
Working class causalities out on the streets sleep rough
While a mother with her baby takes her pram to the pub
And while she’s knocking them down
The cost of living goes up
I can’t relate to politicians with their head in the mud
I resonate with messy Fridays with the boys smoking bud
We do our bit to numb the struggle, as below, so above
As as above, so below, here in the city we glow
I blow a smoke ring up to heaven and it makes a halo
And then the clock strikes seven, guess its time to head home
My companion is the city, so I’m never alone
I’m stepping in and out of gaps of the pavement cracks
and if I go to sleep now that’s an anti-climax
People rise for work and the sun mirrors that
A perfect juxtaposition for those out on the lash
Bare with me, its beautiful
I think its irrefutable
There’s beauty in a contradicting Britain… indisputable
Junkie in a cubicle, that old spoon is usable
His mother’s in a black suit, crying at a funeral
Nine to five crucible, this route is not commutable
A kid falls off the tracks and then he serves a stretch in Juvenal
Libbies at the Doleys but her dispositions humourful
While Davey’s at the bookies and his mates call him delusional
Britain , drink it down and moan about the weather
When the sun starts shining feel the factor 10 tremor
Boys will boys, will be in it together
Until the fists start flying like they’re Connor Mcgreggor
And then he’s out…
I think he too took it too far
I think the boy saw red I think he hit him to hard
Now he’s face down on the pavement with a face full of tar
mad how small altercations can define who we are
That’s my cue!
Think its time to head home,
Its bitter sweet how my high found its way to be low
And I’ve said it once before, as above, so below
Living on the streets of Britain you just go with the flow
But I’m done…
Im out for the night,
As the sun paints the pavements I’ll turn out the light
White noise on the radio to quiet my mind
Always was an over-thinker, just the way I’m designed
Britain, drink it down and moan about the weather
When its all said and done we’ll be in it altogether
Boys will be boys, will be like it forever
It’s a bittersweet symphony
We’re birds of a feather
awesome!
Love it bro, keep em coming!👍
what a nice interpretation, love it!!!

After I heard "Hi Ren" I was like... Finaly I am not alone... This is my guy. I could feel you like you were here in my mind when I was watching and listening to your songs all day obsesivly... And finaly somone has a real chance to get to the people with the message I also wanted to send. Your song is Sympathy for the Devil of 21st century for the people who didnt understand it back then, and for the ones that havent heard it yet. Your story is a Club 27 story gone right one step further. Damn right. You are Neo in the Matrix in this real online world. You are the brightest swing of the influential madnes that has spread all over peoples minds, and even if you never touch your guitar again, you have already touched a lot of human souls. Thank you for everything Ren, you are me, i am you, this is not just between us two, at last, finaly someone people can connect through... Wish you all the best with your next dark swing... You will become world popular, and that is quite a test, so put put on your a(r)mor and vest, and do not fear cuz your "Power" is truly the best
I wish I was intelligent enough that the frame glitch I just noticed at 56 seconds was a hidden subliminal message, but nope its just a video exporting error that slipped through the radar...
OR IS IT!?!??!?
no it actually is...
OR IS IT
We Don't care, bloody mega track Ren
looks like it should be. because immediately after the movement of the hands appears this
frame hahah
no probably not
or is it though?
It's right on the beat so it actually looks kinda cool. Like a visual record skip as the drums kick in.
I tracked it down on 25% speed and yes, if the subliminal message is: "theres different perspectives or wider perspectives on the same" then yeah, it worked. 😁👌😅
That walk home in the early morning after an awesome night out with mates is one of those beautiful things in life.
Yeah, when you come home the same time you usually get up on a workday, head full of whatever you put in that night and the music still lingers underneath that annoying beeping in your ears...
i think its pretty close to feeling immortal. and thats beautiful!
Especially if the morning sun is shining on your face, there is a little chill.. Mannnn I miss those days sometimes
I totally agree. Sometimes it can just be magical. Even if you should be on a come down, a great ending to the night and a nice walk through town in the morning seeing a new day begin.

I think so many people are drawn to Ren because of how genuine everything hits you. Doesn't matter where you're from or what your age is. He's clever, he's real, and the music and rhythm just draws us all in. There aren't many artists that can do this.
He tells a story in all kind of ways.

yes, same here. i'm 62 and snuggling a hand full of immune disorders. i had an accident and four bleeds in 2012 and i shouldn't even be here . the doctors have dropped me through the cracks so often i have whiplash. - ya, my humours is pretty f in dark. i had to teach myself how to talk, type, play my guitar etc all over again at the age of 53 - i live in a small minded town - so i'm the brain injured wife (though i handle all the affairs ) meaning no one looks at me anymore never mind talk to me. i used to be a palliative care specialist and i hated seeing this done to people. Lost my business, my ability to work, partner of 13 years, friends, mobility. Living on the edge of - if you loose everything worth living for, is life worth living for ?

Last Saturday night, I smoked a bit of weed and watched a bunch of Ren's videos on my TV, hooked to my laptop, hooked to my sick stereo system. This could become a habit.
UPDATE: Did this again twice.
I found Ren today ... tonight ... I'm so tired ... 1am here and in next 5 hours I am waking up ... and I still don't have enough. This genius must be shared.
Me too ,, but I, m 53 yrs old ,, this is not right 😞😃😃😃😃😃❤❤❤

Dam Ren ! Your right those who appreciate your music do Respect your talent !!!!! 59 yr old American grandpa !!! Keep it up dude not bad at all !!!
Im from Germany, me and my girl traveled from dover, Canderburry, London, Stonehenge, Oxford, Sheffield, York, Edinburgh, Loch Ness, Glasgow, Chester, Birmingham back to Dover. It was a big road trip. In pubs we talked to very friendly people, we talked about Britain, we stay awake some nights, weve seen Britain at night, and by day, it was beautiful. This is the Britain you love, and we understand why, and we love it too.
Yesterday is history, and tomorrow is a mystery, but Britain will always be Britain ❤
And Britain loves you right back ...come see us again your always welcome

Next time you come go to Brighton where this was filmed. He ends up on Dean Street if you to be interested to find where it was filmed. Beautiful place in the world. The beach is all stones though!! No sand 😂 The vibe and the music, creative scene is glorious ❤
0:58 "Here in the city we glow" and he walks into the sunshine! Deep shit man! Love it!
I'm Dutch but I studied in Britain for a few years and I love your country. I've seen (and been shocked by) all of the things described in this song, but this is the first time I have ever seen it through a lens of beauty. The first time I was ever in a pub in the UK I saw a pregnant girl (she couldn't have been 20 yet) drinking beer and smoking cigarettes, I looked down on her, could only see the future she was damning her child to. Never before have I thought to look at a scene like this with a sense of love and kindness. It took me a few listens to this song before I understood this. Thank you Ren for giving me a new way of looking at your beautiful messy country.
Because we got fuck all else bro since 1949 we become a laughing stock literally after liberating the free world
I'm British, but I lived near Enschede for 3 years. You've just confirmed everything I learned from that experience. The Dutch are amongst the most fun loving, compassionate and empathetic people on the planet. And you get to live in a beautiful tidy country.

Protect this man! He's a f*cking genius. Not just a superb talent, a once in a generation talent. Ren if you see this, add one more person to the list of people who your music has impacted and I'm not ashamed to admit that I actually cried watching Hi Ren the first few times I watched it. Like I said, you're a f*cking genius. I know it doesn't mean much, but people are truly connecting with your music.
I'd also say, "protect this man," but it's clear Ren has done quite a good job protecting himself! He fought for a proper diagnosis, and he's doing whatever possible to live a healthy and happy life. Ren has inspired & impacted me, and I've cried too, but even more so because of his dedication and perseverance. It's incredible to see how much passion he puts into everything he does while plagued with serious health issues. He IS a once in a generation talent and a f*cking genius. Did he realize how prophetic he was about his place of greatness when he first wrote "Hi Ren?" Was it his determination that's caused all the good stuff happening to him right now? I can't think of a more deserving person...well, that's not quite true...we're ALL deserving of every bit of happiness we can get.
Same. I'm almost 48 and I'm like damn, he gets it. After struggling alone and "masking" I finally feel like I'm not that crazy after all. We are many and he is our voice
@@shannonohara3333 and at that age. It's not just a word I use because he's good, I honestly think he's a genius.
I cry three times, every time I watch Hi Ren.

I used to work on an ambulance in San Diego, California back in the 90's. There was a certain playlist that was absolutely perfect for 6AM and this song was definitely on it. The perfect sound for driving around in the early mornings. This song takes me back, even though it was a different time and place. The seagulls at the end are just the icing on the cake. They were everywhere in San Diego too. Thanks for taking me back Ren!
man, that rhythm from a song I grew up loving is crazy. Loved this. Heard the band member gave you a guitar from this. Glad I found you, Dude. Stay strong.
Just discovered Ren and definitely fell into thus rabbit hole! I'm 66 and revel in hearing Independent artist. Ren is not only talent but a wonderful storyteller. Thank you Ren.

I freaking love you man! I'm 48 years old now. I am diagnosed with adhd a mental disorder anxiety and panic disorder. My mom passed away when I was 8 years old.. then I was sexually abused from age 8 to 12. Then in my early twenties I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenic. So I understand mental health. Your music really connects with me. Much love and God bless you!
It's good that you are so confident to be able to tell your problems to strangers, you must have got really really well, well done
Dear REN
Your personality and music makes me feel supported and understanding.
I have had chronic inflammation for many years which is due to autoimmune disease.
But when I listen to you I know that life has meaning.
Even though I am only in the UK 20 per cent of my life, I feel the spirit of this song.
This song is my favourite.
THANK YOU REN
Raised in llandudno but now live in canada but always looking back for connections to home and this one hits home everytime. Ren your an inspiration mate.
This lad is pumping out the best tunes I’ve found in years. Smashing it Ren. Keep it up mate absolute genius ❤️
Poo poo chewer
That 'tune' was actually by The Verve
@@Kazza_8240 Yes Mate the Verve wrote all this obviously🤣
@@Kazza_8240 Jesus.. all you fucking correction morons, the melody was actually composed by the Rolling Stones, remade by the verve and overplayed to death for the past 20 years, I was talking about the lyrics and the plethora of other tunes he’s been pumping out for the past few years. This one is filled to the brim with pure passion. Nice job as always Ren!
Bro you took one of the most iconic British melodies of all time and then captured the down to earth gritty beauty of Britian, paying it homage in the most incredible way. You consistently blow my mind since I stumbled onto you late in the game, you're making history man, stay blessed! Much love!
Totally agree dude ,Ren is bringing followers of all genres together. Im a flat out metal head and ive talked to Ravers and everyone in between. Only seen one nasty comment directed at Ren and I called him out on it because I cañt stand bullies but all ages and genre's are finding Ren the modern day bard. We are so lucky to be witness to a musical and poetic master. Cheers
These remakes are SO underrated. It gives me so much joy to have the nostalgia mixed with the freshest of flavors! ❤
Goosebumps everytime ❤️ your music is special Ren 🥰 keep doing what you're doing! X
33years old. Never really been a rap fan, heart always belonged to rock and metal.
Then I hear this, love the original song and then this retake pops up on my feed. The lntelligence and eloquence behind the lyrics, the raw poetry and relatability, the flow, the feel. I think I’ve found a new favourite version (no offence to the verve) but this, this is a modern masterpiece.
I wish you every success and good health bruv, don’t stop.
I'm 54 years old and have nothing with rap music, but Ren you make me think different about rap music. Love your work. greetings from a dutch man....

yeah me too, i stumbled on this and it hit a nerve
Never thought I would hear someone in this age who is so current and relatable and whose words have poetry and depths on levels of Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley. You are an absolute treasure Ren!
Ren I've never been one for new music..so as I've turned 51 this past june ive just come across an amazing talent one I've never seen or ever heard before. Hearing you rap to sing to dice deep into your feelings and what is in our own psychosis is something i don't believe I've even heard of someone who's bee so will to put who they are. Hi Ren is the perfect song for so many of us going through this world..thank you for turning my head and giving us something special.. Cheer's!!!

"But my music is really connecting

Hi Ren! ; I will be turning 33 on february second I feel like this is a birthday gift and I am so happy to be able to celebrate my own birthday with the release of a new song of yours....
I have been listening to all of your music, collabs and music from the big push and you are just outstanding; amazing; no words to describe such a powerful character as yourself;
I love your work Ren.
Happy birthday! ❤️ ☺️🤸

I must say, this is such a refreshing tune from a young person, no swearing, lyrics I can actually understand and associate with.
Good lad.
Absolutely love it. I'm not really a new music fan but this is amazing. Keep it up.
I first found Ren bc of his song “Hi, Ren”. 9 minutes of watching a conversation I’ve had with myself an uncountable amount of times played out on my computer screen, stripped bare to the raw emotions that I still don’t know the names for. I’ve been trying to go thru the rest of your anthology since that day, and am now hard pressed to tell you which song I like the best.
All of them are amazing, all of them have that distinct je ne sais quois that sets them apart from everything else in your genre (as well as your own library), and all of them resonate on a molecular level with not just me, but millions of others around the world.
And I think that’s what makes you so important, Ren. You have the ability to tell us “yo, I get it”, without handing out meaningless platitudes that so many of our compatriots give us when we mention that life sucks a little right now. But what makes you special is that you have the ability to understand and connect with people who have never had the words to say “life sucks a little right now”.
You’re giving the voiceless a voice. No matter what else happens to this world, you’ve given the voiceless a voice.
Ditto
This is so well written and is extremely true. Thank you for putting it down in words, that I never could, to such an amazing artist as Ren🙏
First time I've actually waited for a youtube live release... Way to make 27 hour seem like an eternity. WELL WORTH THE WAIT!!
Not sure how you manage to take practically untouchable classics and turn them into your own greatness. Every. Single. Time.
This was absolutely mezmorizing. You are a brilliant young man. Thank you for sharing your artistry with us. Don't let the opposition to your will win the battle. You'll get through it all. Stay strong. Great job.
REN!! This is one of my favorite melodies of all time, and you ripped it. I'm so freaking glad your art is getting the attention it deserves these days. Even if it's just a lone ray of sun peeking through the dense clouds created by all of the strife you've been dealing with for so long, please know that it's brought pure excitement to my life for the first time in quite awhile. That's a huge deal to someone like me, so cheers to you, sir.
That was a tease, I respect it! Will have to wait 27 hours I guess 😭 can't believe I've slept on my now favourite artist for so long. Keep up the outstanding work. Your talent is unmatched.
I have gone down the Ren rabbit hole with "Hi Ren" and I have no intention of coming out any time soon. Your music hits different and I'm excited to to listen to your old and new tracks. Its actually mind-blowing to experience this level of art. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Your videos and messages literally brought us back together.
I love you for that because he's my best friend and adult life made me forget that.
Thank you.
I am a death metal guy, greying death metal guitarist, RUclips algorithms are weird but strangely accurate. I have stumbled into some awesomely different music makers but you just resonate as kind of genius like to me. My wife has suffered as you, almost exactly like you , for over 30 years now. You are fighting, which she no longer does,
I keep showing her some of your work. She not really a music person but I'm hoping something will catch her soul and help her move forward.
I just love your stuff. It's amazingly creative and just really put together visually. The lyrics, the beat, the acting are just awesome together.
You guys project just a great joy when your busking. It gotta be your path out of your pain.
Keep moving brother you are bound for success.
I don't know if ketamine treatment is legal in the UK as it is here in USA but they've had some great results with it and it's basically instantaneous. Immediately lifts the depression without side effects in a controlled nose spray. Didn't work for my wife but something to look into if you want.
The lyrical content, metaphors and delivery of this track is brilliant, not to mention how traditionally British it is. Great work!
