Much love to all of you!!! As always here's the lyrics for anyone who wants them!
I’ve got dirt on my reeboks from staying out all night,
I spent my last ten pounds on this pack of Marlborough Lights
I called up Stevie, I said “G ,you alright?”
He said “It’s six in the morning brother! Get some shut eye!”
I feel a sense of wellbeing this time in the morning
Wear my heart out on my hoodie while the city is snoring
Drunks falling off the sidewalks get issued a warning
Distant sirens they crescendo like a symphony calling
This it the Britain I know
This is the Britain I love
There’s poetry inside this city if you listen enough
Working class causalities out on the streets sleep rough
While a mother with her baby takes her pram to the pub
And while she’s knocking them down
The cost of living goes up
I can’t relate to politicians with their head in the mud
I resonate with messy Fridays with the boys smoking bud
We do our bit to numb the struggle, as below, so above
As as above, so below, here in the city we glow
I blow a smoke ring up to heaven and it makes a halo
And then the clock strikes seven, guess its time to head home
My companion is the city, so I’m never alone
I’m stepping in and out of gaps of the pavement cracks
and if I go to sleep now that’s an anti-climax
People rise for work and the sun mirrors that
A perfect juxtaposition for those out on the lash
Bare with me, its beautiful
I think its irrefutable
There’s beauty in a contradicting Britain… indisputable
Junkie in a cubicle, that old spoon is usable
His mother’s in a black suit, crying at a funeral
Nine to five crucible, this route is not commutable
A kid falls off the tracks and then he serves a stretch in Juvenal
Libbies at the Doleys but her dispositions humourful
While Davey’s at the bookies and his mates call him delusional
Britain , drink it down and moan about the weather
When the sun starts shining feel the factor 10 tremor
Boys will boys, will be in it together
Until the fists start flying like they’re Connor Mcgreggor
And then he’s out…
I think he too took it too far
I think the boy saw red I think he hit him to hard
Now he’s face down on the pavement with a face full of tar
mad how small altercations can define who we are
That’s my cue!
Think its time to head home,
Its bitter sweet how my high found its way to be low
And I’ve said it once before, as above, so below
Living on the streets of Britain you just go with the flow
But I’m done…
Im out for the night,
As the sun paints the pavements I’ll turn out the light
White noise on the radio to quiet my mind
Always was an over-thinker, just the way I’m designed
Britain, drink it down and moan about the weather
When its all said and done we’ll be in it altogether
Boys will be boys, will be like it forever
It’s a bittersweet symphony
We’re birds of a feather
awesome!
Love it bro, keep em coming!👍
what a nice interpretation, love it!!!

After I heard "Hi Ren" I was like... Finaly I am not alone... This is my guy. I could feel you like you were here in my mind when I was watching and listening to your songs all day obsesivly... And finaly somone has a real chance to get to the people with the message I also wanted to send. Your song is Sympathy for the Devil of 21st century for the people who didnt understand it back then, and for the ones that havent heard it yet. Your story is a Club 27 story gone right one step further. Damn right. You are Neo in the Matrix in this real online world. You are the brightest swing of the influential madnes that has spread all over peoples minds, and even if you never touch your guitar again, you have already touched a lot of human souls. Thank you for everything Ren, you are me, i am you, this is not just between us two, at last, finaly someone people can connect through... Wish you all the best with your next dark swing... You will become world popular, and that is quite a test, so put put on your a(r)mor and vest, and do not fear cuz your "Power" is truly the best
I wish I was intelligent enough that the frame glitch I just noticed at 56 seconds was a hidden subliminal message, but nope its just a video exporting error that slipped through the radar...
OR IS IT!?!??!?
no it actually is...
OR IS IT
We Don't care, bloody mega track Ren
looks like it should be. because immediately after the movement of the hands appears this
frame hahah
no probably not
or is it though?
It's right on the beat so it actually looks kinda cool. Like a visual record skip as the drums kick in.
I tracked it down on 25% speed and yes, if the subliminal message is: "theres different perspectives or wider perspectives on the same" then yeah, it worked. 😁👌😅
This one of the most creative takes of Bittersweet Symphony. This is excellent. And it is BRITISH too.
Britishsweet symphony you could say.
@@JimmyEss👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 yes mate. Well played brother
When I hear Ren I think for the first time in my 48 years.. “The kids’ll be alright.” You’re a special one Ren, your honesty, vulnerability, lyricism, musicianship it’s connecting us all.. I’m sure you know the value and meaning of your name from an ancient Chinese philosophical perspective. Ren, virtue, humaneness, people.. Absolutely blown away by you mate. Thank you 🙏❤🙏☯️

Yeah FRESH !

Same I don't do rap but this lad is great
Yeah, I only got into listening to hip hop and other music with rap when I found out that there's quite a few great poets/lyricists among this crowd, this guy called Ren apparently being one of them.
I’m 66 and thinking just the same
DOG the choreography alone! Super intricate. A mix of Actors & real people on the streets amazing.
I have fortunately found Ren's music recently! I have absolutely loved every single song I've heard. This man has a very special talent! ❤️
That walk home in the early morning after an awesome night out with mates is one of those beautiful things in life.
Yeah, when you come home the same time you usually get up on a workday, head full of whatever you put in that night and the music still lingers underneath that annoying beeping in your ears...
i think its pretty close to feeling immortal. and thats beautiful!
Especially if the morning sun is shining on your face, there is a little chill.. Mannnn I miss those days sometimes
I totally agree. Sometimes it can just be magical. Even if you should be on a come down, a great ending to the night and a nice walk through town in the morning seeing a new day begin.

I'm a 62 year old Yorkshireman and I don't even like rap...but I'm transfixed by Ren's poetry and musicality. I totally love it and when I read the comments and see the emotional global reach, it brings tears to my eyes.

Just found you Ren yesterday. I live in the middle of nowhere in Africa. I found peace and have found a way of living with my inner demons and angels. I thought only yesterday l needed poetry in music. Then your work manifested. Touched spaces in my soul.

Literally the OPPOSITE of Mumle Rap. You can understand every single word. Be more as Ren kids please.

And more British accents
I see too many people from the UK water down their accent to appeal to the American music market. I think it’s nonsense
@@Kenny2k08I don't understand why they would do that. It's a cool sound, so far as I'm concerned.

i really cannot wait for this, I'm 32 and haven't been this enamoured with an artist for a very very long time, the amount of reactions to your other songs I've watched, just to see how people 'understand' you is unreal, to think I'm so late to this 'Ren Party' I'm disappointed with myself, your music is so relatable to me in this time of my life, I've 4 kids and a wife with a brain condition, your music just connected with me, Ren, you walked into my life when the rest of the world walked out, much love and many blessings to you Ren, keep doing what your doing
Same! I'm humming Ren's songs as I go about my day.
yes, same here. i'm 62 and snuggling a hand full of immune disorders. i had an accident and four bleeds in 2012 and i shouldn't even be here . the doctors have dropped me through the cracks so often i have whiplash. - ya, my humours is pretty f in dark. i had to teach myself how to talk, type, play my guitar etc all over again at the age of 53 - i live in a small minded town - so i'm the brain injured wife (though i handle all the affairs ) meaning no one looks at me anymore never mind talk to me. i used to be a palliative care specialist and i hated seeing this done to people. This is by no means a comment on your situation Simon - -- just describing mine. and by the way i am very fortunate that i have a partner that treats me better than anyone ever has. But the depression and pain - - - i wasn't planning to be here - and then Ren put up Hi Ren - and got inside my chest . So here i am waiting for more of that voice.
Same I’m 37 and he’s so relatable and fresh and unique - can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future of Ren! ❤
Hey Simon, I'm nearly 62 and I sort of feel the same - much love 💞🙏❣️
For the last 7 / 8 years have been dealing with [now] a number of life-changing medical conditions.
Lost my business, my ability to work, partner of 13 years, friends, mobility. Living on the edge of - if you loose everything worth living for, is life worth living for ?
Having Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and also getting diagnosed with a Chronic Leukaemia, and also now another number of medical issues that have since arised. Though, I will say, the Healthcare I've received from the HSE (Irish healthcare service) has been great. Thank you so much to the Nurses, Hospital Staff & Doctors !
Ending up in the basement of my parents house, is so far away from what I imagined my life should have been... thanks Ren for giving me perspective.
Listening / hearing words as honest as you tell, a masterful storyteller. I do hope someday soon I will be able to buy a Ren album on vinyl, as it is one of my few pleasures I have left, buying the odd Record and listening to music on Vinyl.
You (Ren) are up there with the Philosophers [and councillors] who've help me through what I've been through; Alan Watts, Gabor Maté, Eckhart Tolle, Carl Jung, some Nietzsche, Bukowski, Marx, Engels, Hodgkinson, and more...
Thank You Ren
.
I am from the USA and will say this is amazing song you have captured the streets world wide bruh bruh..

I think this young man Ren may actually be the harbinger of change for the good. I’m not British, but working class American. If we could only open our eyes to the beauty of each other no matter our politics, our luck, the darkness - which is also, sometimes beautiful - maybe we could start paying attention to what matters. Not ourselves alone, but each other. ❤️

I think so many people are drawn to Ren because of how genuine everything hits you. Doesn't matter where you're from or what your age is. He's clever, he's real, and the music and rhythm just draws us all in. There aren't many artists that can do this.
He tells a story in all kind of ways.
Yes, all ages appreciate his awesome talent. His talent is off the charts. Rap, rock in roll, theatre and authentic. Refreshingly authentic.
Do the Verve know he snarfed their song?
true, it's awe-inspiring if im being honest i never knew how amazing he was
The best thing about Ren is not his poetry, not his vast musical talent, not his story telling - which is off the scale by the way. The best thing about Ren is that he's a really lovely person. Polite, erudite, friendly and engaging. What a top bloke - get well soon mate.

Couldn't agree more. Music is and always has been story telling and it seems like generations have passed since we had really really good story tellers . Likes of Tupac and Eminem and Ren fits right in with the best if not the best
I grew up in Chicago, got into mischief real young and soon found raves in the early 90s. Went down the wrong road with addiction which carried into my early 40s. This song just hits the right nerves and feels. Currently 2 months away from a year of sobriety. Keep em coming.

I’m a 41 year old Brit living in Luxembourg. Although this powerful anthem doesn’t necessarily view Britain through rose-tinted glasses, it REALLY gives me a strong sense of nostalgia and home. It feels great. The more I delve down the Ren rabbit hole, the more I appreciate his ability to paint a picture and evoke visceral emotions through his art and experiences. I’ve not felt this passionate about music for a long time so thanks Ren and good luck with your treatment in Canada.

Please. Can you just bloody well stop. Every bloody time I hear one of your songs, you bring tears to my eyes and goosebumps on my arms (and other places). Some way, some how, you're pushing my mind. There's a break about to happen. I've no idea what it is or if I'll recover. But. It is needed. All of us need to let go of the past baggage and just ... accept the way it is as holding on to it was never a good idea to start with. Done is done. Ashes to ashes, not the lashes that we accept for comfort, for memories past.

Dear Ren,
from the bottom of my heart, I wish you all the best. For your treatment and for your future as an artist. I cannot describe what your music has done to me in the last couple of weeks. I feel so much resonance and relation and connection to you. Not only as an ill person (I've suffered from depression, too which led to unhealthy habits) but also as the wonderful person you are despite your illness. You are a beautiful person, inside and outside and you are an inspiration. I sing and make music, too and you pushed my selftrust and motivation more than anything else. What you transport in your music is so very important. That you have the courage to talk about mental health topics, problems in society, global issues and so on will make a huge different. You helped so many people already. I'm a bit sad that I haven't discovered you earlier, so that I could visit one of your busking gigs in Brighton and meet you in person. But that sadness does not compare to the happiness I feel about finding you now. Your music is touching me deeply Ren and I hope to see you on a live show in Germany, Swiss or Austria one day, if I can afford it. You are one of the best artists I've ever seen Ren! I wish you all the best for your recovery to a better health, a better life, a better world to live in! Also, all the best for your musical career, you'll be huge! @@lynnlynn1689 There's a lot to say about the overall content of his music that is deeply relatable to us and others with chronic health conditions. His history of difficulty yet optimism, and openness about his struggles, being imprisoned and lorded by illness, but still finding a way to persist, is very moving.
Without any of that I'm sure we'd all still be here listening to Ren. His voice has a particular range of characteristics that I find very satisfying. The accent, the authenticity of it, the way he pronounces certain words. He's one of us. At the same time, he can produce a raw savagery of beats and bars that competes with the best rappers. He's a rapper who can SING, and PLAY, and lull you to sleep on the next track.
One of the things he does that's unique is explore such a profound level of frustration through very serious subject matter, but also find the humour in it in a way that is very much Ren. It's brilliant.

Just discovered Ren and definitely fell into thus rabbit hole! I'm 66 and revel in hearing Independent artist. Ren is not only talent but a wonderful storyteller. Thank you Ren.
No one asked your age you fucking wierdo.
@@corporate_marshmallow man, your misanthropic attitude is fucking obscene.
What about the only relevant rabbit hole?
Bittersweet Symphony has always been one of my favorite songs and to hear that music again was amazing. Thank you Ren.
His voice, his lyrics, he is revolutionary!!!!
Respect to you Ren! I’m a 67 year old retired longshoreman from Long Beach and I Just discovered you a week ago and I’m obsessed. In 1970 I went to my first concert at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino. Jimi Hendrix! I was obsessed with Jimi. I’m rooting for you and praying that you recover your health ASAP. By the way, I found you through Half and Jai. They had a great reaction video to Hi Ren. Can’t wait to see you in concert. Until then, I will remember I am a human being.😎
Nice still loving the evolution of music, my man, 💯🇮🇪💚
I used to work on an ambulance in San Diego, California back in the 90's. There was a certain playlist that was absolutely perfect for 6AM and this song was definitely on it. The perfect sound for driving around in the early mornings. This song takes me back, even though it was a different time and place. The seagulls at the end are just the icing on the cake. They were everywhere in San Diego too. Thanks for taking me back Ren!
I'm a 52 year old lady from Hastings (near Brighton) who discovered you a couple of months ago, just before Hi Ren, and have not stopped listening to you since. Just wanted to say you are incredible...your lyrics transport us to the scene in our minds, even while your performance keeps our eyes riveted to the screen. Modern day bard is too simple but...I'm excited about music again for the first time in ages. Thank you!
I am forty and from Germany. May invite you for a coffee or two when i am in town
“ Mad how small altercations can define who we are “ absolutely love this sentence in the song
Came here to say the same and you beat me to it

I saw the clip of the medley a few years ago and loved it so much....I am 51! My son heard me listening to Ren about a year or so ago and he is also hooked. You've captured more than one generation of fans :)
REN!! This is one of my favorite melodies of all time, and you ripped it. I'm so freaking glad your art is getting the attention it deserves these days. Even if it's just a lone ray of sun peeking through the dense clouds created by all of the strife you've been dealing with for so long, please know that it's brought pure excitement to my life for the first time in quite awhile. That's a huge deal to someone like me, so cheers to you, sir.
I continue to be amazed. This guy is just pure joy to me. His music and talent make me happy I’m alive to witness it.
You are groundbreaking! I’m 49 and was huge fan of this track first time around. First time I’ve been excited about music since 1990!
Hello 👋
This lad is pumping out the best tunes I’ve found in years. Smashing it Ren. Keep it up mate absolute genius ❤️
Poo poo chewer
That 'tune' was actually by The Verve
@@Kazza_8240 Yes Mate the Verve wrote all this obviously🤣
@@Kazza_8240 Jesus.. all you fucking correction morons, the melody was actually composed by the Rolling Stones, remade by the verve and overplayed to death for the past 20 years, I was talking about the lyrics and the plethora of other tunes he’s been pumping out for the past few years. Pipe down smart arse
@@BossDesigns5m here’s us living in our box for the past 20 year, who’s the verve? Lol
I was born in 1961. Like many folks who have circled the sun too many times my tastes in music sort of solidified in the first three decades. I’ve never been into rap or anything else past 1990. But you have literally exploded my brain. Starting with Hi Ren I’ve been saturating myself with your art. Magnificent stuff. Get well. Stay well and all my best wishes for your future. I’m looking forward to following your career for many many years!
seconded although im very much younger than you (1962) :) !!!
Omg. I was born 1960 and can't believe how amazing Ren is. My 1st fav was Cat Stevens, then Queen with the longest song-Bohemian Rhapsody, they said wouldn't work. Next was Linkin Park, which they didn't know how to categorize their sound. Now Ren, which I can't stop watching everything he makes! Amazing doesn't even cover what you are!
@@carols3517 Linkin Park! Cool that's a new one for me.

When I get older I wanna be like you guys 😭 Much love and respect! ❤🙏
Dear REN
Your personality and music makes me feel supported and understanding.
I have had chronic inflammation for many years which is due to autoimmune disease.
But when I listen to you I know that life has meaning.
Even though I am only in the UK 20 per cent of my life, I feel the spirit of this song.
This song is my favourite.
THANK YOU REN
Mate this just popped up in reels so headed here to hear the full version. I’m a 56 year old and loved and danced to Bittersweet Symphony when it came out. I’ve got goosebumps listening to this and your lyrics are beautiful . I absolutely love this. You got skills and I wish you all the success.
Protect this man! He's a f*cking genius. Not just a superb talent, a once in a generation talent. Ren if you see this, add one more person to the list of people who your music has impacted and I'm not ashamed to admit that I actually cried watching Hi Ren the first few times I watched it. Like I said, you're a f*cking genius. I know it doesn't mean much, but people are truly connecting with your music.
I'd also say, "protect this man," but it's clear Ren has done quite a good job protecting himself! He fought for a proper diagnosis, and he's doing whatever possible to live a healthy and happy life. Ren has inspired & impacted me, and I've cried too, but even more so because of his dedication and perseverance. It's incredible to see how much passion he puts into everything he does while plagued with serious health issues. He IS a once in a generation talent and a f*cking genius. Did he realize how prophetic he was about his place of greatness when he first wrote "Hi Ren?" Was it his determination that's caused all the good stuff happening to him right now? I can't think of a more deserving person...well, that's not quite true...we're ALL deserving of every bit of happiness we can get.
Same. I'm almost 48 and I'm like damn, he gets it. After struggling alone and "masking" I finally feel like I'm not that crazy after all. We are many and he is our voice
@@shannonohara3333 and at that age. It's not just a word I use because he's good, I honestly think he's a genius.
I cry three times, every time I watch Hi Ren.
❤️
Im 40 and Ren's music (which i stumbled on two weeks ago) makes me feel like i did when i was listening to bands like Silverchair, blur, oasis, pulp etc back when i was a kid in high school
"But my music is really connecting
And the people who find it respect it"
You're not wrong Ren.
Love this guy, he's lyrical, which is rare nowadays. This is more than rap, it's more like urban poetry.
Best signer writer the UK has in a very long time. Ren is an Generational Talent. God bless yo Ren💯💯💯
I found Ren today ... tonight ... I'm so tired ... 1am here and in next 5 hours I am waking up ... and I still don't have enough. This genius must be shared.

I am a death metal guy, greying death metal guitarist, RUclips algorithms are weird but strangely accurate. I have stumbled into some awesomely different music makers but you just resonate as kind of genius like to me. My wife has suffered as you, almost exactly like you , for over 30 years now. You are fighting, which she no longer does,
I keep showing her some of your work. She not really a music person but I'm hoping something will catch her soul and help her move forward.
I just love your stuff. It's amazingly creative and just really put together visually. The lyrics, the beat, the acting are just awesome together.
You guys project just a great joy when your busking. It gotta be your path out of your pain.
Keep moving brother you are bound for success.
I don't know if ketamine treatment is legal in the UK as it is here in USA but they've had some great results with it and it's basically instantaneous. Immediately lifts the depression without side effects in a controlled nose spray. Didn't work for my wife but something to look into if you want.
Every song this man releases is an experience.
Bittersweet symphony is one of my favorite songs ever and I have to say that you made this 100% your own and did it amazingly. What a great personalized rendition and a closer look into your life. You are really something special Ren! Stay strong in your recovery brother! Much love from the U.S. ❤

Can’t believe how emotional I got at that last section- “When it’s all said and done we’ll be in it all together”. Actually brought a tear my eye! Britain I love you. And as others have said, his fan base has no boundaries- I’m well into my forties and NEVER listened to this genre of music before. Just superb. God bless you, Ren.
Ren keeps me up til dawn...til I can't look at my phone anymore... I'm a 70 year old musician of the past. My daughter would have loved you Ren....she didn't make it...I always had hope...she really would have loved you
"there's poetry in this city if you listen enough" was a big line for me who only sees shiteness in Britain these days. It's true that the people of the UK are what makes it tick we need to turn things around!
I am completely OBSESSED with you and your songs and I'm not afraid to say it omg... ❤😊
Im from Germany, me and my girl traveled from dover, Canderburry, London, Stonehenge, Oxford, Sheffield, York, Edinburgh, Loch Ness, Glasgow, Chester, Birmingham back to Dover. It was a big road trip. In pubs we talked to very friendly people, we talked about Britain, we stay awake some nights, weve seen Britain at night, and by day, it was beautiful. This is the Britain you love, and we understand why, and we love it too.

Next time you come go to Brighton where this was filmed. He ends up on Dean Street if you to be interested to find where it was filmed. Beautiful place in the world. The beach is all stones though!! No sand 😂 The vibe and the music, creative scene is glorious ❤
It’s 05:11 and I’m still awake- nothing unusual as I can never sleep. I sit here with a pain in my gut wishing with all this new crap they keep designing which destroys our world that someone somewhere will build a Time Machine and take me back to the 90s. I’m so depressed I can barely make it out of bed most days. This new world is poisoning me daily and I’ve grown angry and bitter. All the laughing and love is being sucked out of this world now. I live in the past watching only old movies listening to old songs but they just upset me as I know it’ll not be the same again. The news is banned from my house and I’m trying everything I can to stay away from social media but I find if I am on way to a panic attack I have to scroll. That’s when I came across you and your music. It’s long winded but I just wanted to say that watching you, listening to you, made me feel like I was right back in the 90s I literally got that butterfly feeling listening to you and it made me smile. Just when you think it’s the end someone like you comes along. So glad I randomly found you!! Social media isn’t that bad after all 🙌 You’re amazing!! You’re talented and thanks a lot for sharing you with us. You gave a person hope today. Love and blessings to you 🙏 👏

Been there friend. Thats your frequency and Only you can change it. The good world and bad world exists. So do all the worlds inbetween. It’s a caee of what you see is what you get. You’ve seen this amazing artist we both agree is a good thing. Try see another today. It doesnt have to have such a big impact either. Throw lots of little ones together and they’ll fill you up in time. Hoping you have a nice day.
I first found Ren bc of his song “Hi, Ren”. 9 minutes of watching a conversation I’ve had with myself an uncountable amount of times played out on my computer screen, stripped bare to the raw emotions that I still don’t know the names for. I’ve been trying to go thru the rest of your anthology since that day, and am now hard pressed to tell you which song I like the best.
All of them are amazing, all of them have that distinct je ne sais quois that sets them apart from everything else in your genre (as well as your own library), and all of them resonate on a molecular level with not just me, but millions of others around the world.
And I think that’s what makes you so important, Ren. You have the ability to tell us “yo, I get it”, without handing out meaningless platitudes that so many of our compatriots give us when we mention that life sucks a little right now. But what makes you special is that you have the ability to understand and connect with people who have never had the words to say “life sucks a little right now”.
You’re giving the voiceless a voice. No matter what else happens to this world, you’ve given the voiceless a voice.
Ditto
This is so well written and is extremely true. Thank you for putting it down in words, that I never could, to such an amazing artist as Ren🙏

Wow. So glad I clicked on the Hi Ren recommendation that crept up on my RUclips page a couple of weeks ago. This guy just keeps on blowing my mind and I'm obviously not the only one. It's so amazing to see and feel the love and support that is happening and growing around Ren. So many people like myself who were kids or teens in the 90s and maybe felt like would never again get to feel the exhilaration that bands and artists gave us way back, have been proven wrong. Absolutely love it, gobsmacked as always after a Ren track.
