FEELS GOOD TO BE HOME!
Thank you everyone who joined me for my first premier in a run of many this year!
Music will be flowing fast from now till the foreseeable
as always here are the lyrics for anyone who wants them
I've got dirt on my Reeboks from staying out all night
I spent my last ten pounds on this pack of Marlboro Lights
I phoned up Stevie, I said "G, you alright?"
He said "It's six in the morning, brother! Get some shut-eye!"
I feel a sense of well-being this time in the morning
Wear my heart out on my hoodie while the city is snoring
Drunks falling off the sidewalks, get issued a warning
Distant sirens, they crescendo like a symphony calling
This it the Britain I know, this is the Britain I love
There's poetry inside this city if you listen enough
Working class causalities out on the streets sleep rough
While a mother with her baby takes her pram to the pub
And while she's knocking them down, the cost of living goes up
I can't relate to politicians with their head in the mud
I resonate with messy Fridays, with the boys smoking bud
We do our bit to numb the struggle, as below, so above
As as above, so below, here in the city we glow
I blow a smoke ring up to heaven and it makes a halo
And then the clock strikes seven, guess it's time to head home
My companion is the city, so I'm never alone
I'm stepping in and out of gaps of the pavement cracks
And if I go to sleep now, that's an anti-climax
People rise for work and the sun mirrors that
A perfect juxtaposition for those out on the lash
Bare with me, it's beautiful, I think its irrefutable
There's beauty in a contradicting Britain... Indisputable
Junkie in a cubicle, that old spoon is usable
His mother's in a black suit, crying at a funeral
Nine to five crucible, this route is not commutable
A kid falls off the tracks and then he serves a stretch in Juvenal
Libbies at the Doleys but her dispositions humourful
While Davey's at the bookies and his mates call him delusional
Britain, drink it down and moan about the weather
When the sun starts shining feel the factor 10 tremor
Boys will be boys, will be in it together
Until the fists start flying like they're Connor McGregor
And then he's out... I think he took it too far
I think the boy saw red, I think he hit him too hard
Now he's face down on the pavement with a face full of tar
Mad how small altercations can define who we are
That's my cue! I guess it's time to head home
It's bittersweet how my high found its way to be low
And I've said it once before, as above, so below
Living on the streets of Britain you just go with the flow
But I'm done, I'm out for the night
As the sun paints the pavements, I'll turn out the light
White noise on the radio to quiet my mind
Always was an over-thinker, just the way I'm designed
Britain, drink it down and moan about the weather
When it's all said and done we'll be in it altogether
Boys will be boys, will be like it forever
It's a bittersweet symphony, we're birds of a feather
Cause its a bittersweet symphony thats life
Trying to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die...
Thank you
Thankyou for your genius Ren. This was beautiful. The orchestra was epic x
Greetings from Holland!
@@RenMakesMusic You're amazing ❤
@@RenMakesMusic Amazing dude. Can't wait for what's to come. Keep doing you 🙏🙏💪💪
Re uploaded to change the colour grade 0.00001% because im pedantic as f*ck
rather fond of your neurotic tendencies...carry on
Nothing wrong with getting the extra 0.00001 % in there😂 Monday is actually a tough time for myself and family so this will really lift my spirits a bit. You don't know how much I appreciate this! Thank you
Reading this made me realize "being colour-blind is not that bad" hahah
😂❤
Love it. Nothing wrong with being pedantic 😂
Ren is a living proof that you don't need big record labels,
with massive budgets to create powerful and timeless music!
Super good point. I loved the soccer neighborhood style, the punctuation of a bit of litter, the messy landscaping with patches of dead grass…. A list video, I think.
Our children's children will be looking back. WTF?
That s a funny comment. just ask yourself why he might be spinning around like cinderalla to present a view on the back of his (for this song totaly useless) backpack
I would love for this to become a trend, to see more and more independent artists. With all payment platforms out there, independent artists can make enough money for a living and continue to make art. The biggest win in this case is the fact that the artist can really express himself/herself without the limitations imposed by big label contracts.
To the contrary, massive budgets and big labels almost, but not quite, invariably lead to powerless and fleeting music.
I've been in the music industry for over 40 years as a session guitarist ,I've recorded and toured with some of the best musicians around ...this man has a special talent
Poor man's Mike skinner imo but I'm old.
@@NealSinclair Absolutely fair critique, because I came to the exact same conclusion when I was introduced to Ren via this song (literally last night) so please follow my path of discovery by listening to 'Hi Ren' or literally anything else by him, and you'll instantly see his scope and range is far beyond anything Mike Skinner has. I repeat: do not write him off on this song as I nearly did, because he's got more sides to him than a coke can.
@@NealSinclair I'm old too and I'm not talking about this particular song ..This young man is a great lyricist ,guitar player and has great talent for musical arrangement ..He's a diversified musician..I for one don't care about rap or whatever you want to call this I've seen a lot of his other work.
@@NealSinclair Dear lord Really?
@brainmcilroy3920 I don't think his lyrics hold a candle and yeah I completely understand it's not going to be a popular opinion in 2024😅,though I'm prettty sure he's been an inspiration to ren at some point.
You won't find a more authentic British backdrop to an authentic British classic
!!!
And an interesting verbal hyperlink to the money game on the last sentence right there
I really like this backdrop but the first version where the lyrics are synchronized to the people he's passing on High Street was chef's kiss. And his best work was the crosswalk numbers countdown in Nas Halftime video, in my opinion. I really like all his videos but there is something different and still special about this visual.
@@longkesh1971 definitely the light change 👌
I know, pretty sure that’s a mile away from me up in Scotland. Not in Brighton. 😜
I was actually backstage at those tents looking for a pig mask when you performed this & missed hearing it live at SGP. Being able to watch and hear this take with the string quartet..incredible homie. Captures the heartbeat of a city and the pulse of a nation as we go through bittersweet symphony of our lives. I hear those seagulls now of Brighton wherever I go. Looking forward to what's next - they're not ready for this month from you!!👏👏🔥

I'm 47 years old, a Gen Xer. I used to say that music was like my religion. I feel like I've been wandering in a music desert for years and years. But Ren (and a few others) are getting me excited about music again. What a gift. THAT WAS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL!
Apart from being a year older, you have just said everything im feeling.
@@LennyBenny-oi1cr At this age, a year older doesn't mean a thing, lol. Digital fist bump, bro. Have a good one.
My thoughts and feelings are exactly the same as yours and I'm 54 now and I'm Welsh and I'm so proud of ren for keeping it so real.
48, same thoughts exactly. Haven't found many others, though.
Born 75, it has been a long Time listening to old Stuff
I’m 57yr old Aussie, Bitter Sweet Symphony has been my all time favourite song but you have absolutely nailed this version. Much love ♥️ to You & Britain
We can make Ren a super star in every continent, because he deserves it. Keep hitting that like button, please?
I hate the original song, but this version is out of this world
Spugedelia, I love the original. I like Ren's first take on it better. I love this take best of all. His voice at the end gives me chills
Dear Ren, don’t ever stop creating. We are proud of you and we need your voice in the world.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Oh, Ren. The mother in me comes out each time I hear you. I'm so proud of you, and my heart explodes with each success. You have so many strangers who want nothing but the best for you, sweet boy.
This is so sweet. ❤
I feel the same like he's one of my grandkids.
Yes! I feel like a proud momma when he drops something new.
Totally understand xxx
I'm totally with you ❤
About a year and a half ago I searched for Bittersweet symphony because it's one of my favorite songs. In my feed Ren's rendition popped up and I clicked on it for a listen. Needless to say I was blown away and have been a massive fan of his music since. Thank you Ren for making such excellent music!
Eyyy Legend! 💜
Exactly the same happened to me 🎉
Yes me too... Bittersweet introduced me to Ren then after that I was losing it!
Same here, would love to see Ren and Richard duet it :)
I found Ren through his rendition of Bittersweet symphony too. Its one of my favorite songs of all time but his rendition just randomly popped up in my feed and couldn't not give it a listen. Needless to say Ren is now by far my favorite artist, his music has changed my life and the way i look at music as a whole so this new live rendition means so much to me
I’ve never been more wistful for the memories I definitely had in a place I’ve definitely never been. The feelings this invokes cuts across continents and cultures. Magic bottled up in a song. Never stop doing what you’re doing man.
"If I go to sleep now that's an anticlimax"... "Always was an overthinker, that's the way I'm designed"... So many relatable moments in these lyrics, even if I'm not from Britain. :)
Thank you Ren,
for connecting the world, again. ♥️
No matter where you're from, we're all not so different really. Just takes a clever lyricist to help us see it :)
I am not British....at least not yet, I need £1330 (I have been living for 15 years in England now)....but it is because Ren's lyrics, in songs like these, are so familiar to me that I love his music. Normally I am not really into Hip Hop (I do appreciate the music style), but I love Ren's music.
I have also struggled with a very poor mental health since I was a child....I have a rather impactful medical history too; probably not as severe as Ren's medical history, but I do think I understand him.
@@pixlhound True. Thank god for poets & lyricists. 🙏
@@damiansharp693 I wish you all the best, things will get better, it's not easy, but trust that.
I get what you're saying about hip hop. Tbh, if it's rap, I prefer the melodic type. It's also interesting when it's fused with instrumental, classical music. Love when different genres meet and there is harmony. 🙂
Also, what (some) rappers do well is that they write very real, raw lyrics, combining them with great rhythm and rhymes. I appreciate that as well and Ren excels at all these. 😊
1am is prime time, overthinking in the silence so it’s louder than the daytime chatter.
"Bitter sweet symphony, that's life..."
So true
Britain sweet symphony.
The raspyness in his voice at the end is epic.
That authentic rawness hits me so hard, every time on those last two verses... Yes, epic is the word! It's when I truly FEEL the emotion of the whole piece the most. It's breathtaking, (literally).
It really is it's great such a great voice.
This guy is still talking facts not what the world wants. Respect, Ren

First song I saw Ren perform. Keith Allen, Lily Allen's dad put it up on his Facebook page a couple of years ago and down the rabbit hole I went. So happy to have witnessed the dawn of this generations big talent. We've waited a long time for someone to come shake it and us all up. This Boi Is a genius 🎉🎉🎉
I'm 11,342 years old and can still appreciate this take. Believe it or not, greed and poverty were still intertwined back at the end of the last Ice Age. People haven't changed much since the Younger Dryas. Peace to you my pal Ren.
We need to be have to be the 3 generations X Y Z and the Generation we failed , the Millennials this is our time our sacrifice we have to right the wrongs fight the worst humans to ever walk the planet the insatiable lust for power, money and unimaginable plan of world wide mass murder and starvation to solve the problem they alone are responsible for. We can’t wait until the first manufactured crisis to act it will be to late. All the Christians I am very sorry but we can’t wait for Jesus to save us. I have come to believe Jesus wants us to become the people who he taught to honor the spirit that lives in humanity to understand god didn’t just create us in his image but gave us the spirit of god in our souls. We must act

This guy need to be way more recognised than he is. Love his work.
He will ❤
Love how you ended it on the lyrics "you're a slave to the money then you die". Perfect!
That's from the first verse of the original.
Phenomenal as expected. I’m a 50 year old man, and happen to be just chatting to the gentleman upstairs, saying what music I was into, and saying, he had a hairstyle a bit like a singer, called REN who he’d probably never heard of. At that very moment, he was listening to uninvited on his headphones…..no shit!

Beautifuly done 👍🏽🐷✌🏼
I miss your singing voice
As a fifty year old American, I have no right to be able to relate to Ren, but damn, his music is just so captivating. It pulls me in, and makes me FEEL. I have never heard music that holds so much meaning and Ren knows how to stuff that meaning down your throat in some cases and present it with honor and respect in others. You are special Ren. I wish you nothing but success and better health the rest of your days!
Homeless 52yo in Paris France glad to follow your music and your lives, thanks for the poetry in your words, for all the things that I can relate to and for the things that I can't but can empathize with.
Did the cellist just mimic the seaguls on his strings? Man, I know I shouldn't be surprised, but you did it again! Thanks for this version!
Yeah blew me away when he did it first time in rehearsals
Yeah that was a great touch. How the hell did they manage to capture the sound so well outside without getting all the background noises?
Insane!👌

(And everyone please listen to crutch and children of the moon you're gonna love it they are so underrated)
Facts 💜
Crutch is one of my favourites, it's a powerful piece of art
Children of the moon is actually my favorite video! Very George A Romero! And crutch is beautiful! I feel that was a very challenging one to perform for him emotionally
Burst out crying the first time I listened to crutch, to say it was a powerful experience would be an understatement.
Children of the moon is 🔥 1990's is my favorite tho, it calls to me a lot since i'm from the same era.
I like how Ren's quartets are always two cellos and not two violins. A perfect choice every time!
There is something so deeply special about taking an icon of a song, adding the type of lyrics you write and then performing it live with a proper band of instruments… Just argh 👏👏👏
Ren, im from across the pond. Autoimmune illness, recovering addict. All the ways your fans have never found some one like you before. When a song can easily live in so many colours, it becomes timeless.
The way you are able to understand the meaning behind a song so that you can do a "cover" that is true to the original while also being 100% an original piece of work is truly a gift. Thank you so much for the art that you share with us.
Ren you have made such a big impact on my mums life, she got into your music quite a while back, she has many of your vinyls and she has you merch and things like that, on June the 4th around 3 months ago I think, my mum passed away in her sleep the night before that day, we found out in the morning on that day, it’s been difficult, but I know how much of an impact you have made in her life, with things about the medical industry and things like that, issues, mental issues, your music stuck with her, she really related to your music and loved it, she’s been to hospital many many of times, it’s a thing that she’s ALWAYS despised, being there and the doctors ending up never helping, always lacking, never being able to sort things for her, just continuously putting her on medication, then taking away the medication that she needs, and it’s been very hard for her, even just her going to hospital for her broken hip and that resulted in her being put on morphine which was really scary for us as a family when she was sent home on it, she saw things and she was out of her head, it took ages for it to wear off, like weeks, and it had a very traumatic effect on her, obviously as she stated she was seeing things and she was in a completely different place, but her hospital trips only became a need, she HAD to go, they told her that she had to go, because she had COPD, it got worse overtime and that was the cause of her passing, but her copd only became more severe overtime and it was a really big struggle for her, but as you could imagine, she HATED the hospital but she would still have to go, she was scared, she was really frightened, she called us many times, or my dad mainly, she always wanted us there with her, she thought she was going to pass in hospital and that thought really terrified her, but as you could imagine the hospital couldn’t do anything about her copd, help her, they even had an incident where one of the doctors were planning to leave her oxygen mask on overnight and didn’t turn it off, that would’ve killed her, if it wasn’t for another doctor pointing it out, they were seriously lacking with my mother and it was hard because I really had to watch her slowly fade away with her battle with copd, she sadly passed in her sleep, at home, on June the 4th, but I just wanted to share her story and share how much of an absolute big inspiration your music was for her and how much she could relate to it, she always had it on, she always looked up to it, she loved your music, I wish should could’ve stayed for things longer but she’s been fighting, for a long time, thank you ren, I’ve got all your vinyls now, and your merch, I keep it for her, and I listen to your music now that she introduced me to you, thank you so much for your music, it always made my mum feel like she wasn’t alone, and that she could really relate with your music. Thank you for being such a big part of her life ren❤

daanbrekelmans, I'm glad you like Ren. I think my problem was with the bluntness of your comment. If you'd said "I like Ren, but...", I might not have responded. The thing is that it's all opinion mostly. My favorite guitarist is John Butler. If I say he's the best, that's just my taste. I understand on an intellectual level that Hendrix is great, but I don't personally respond to him. I don't mean that all art is equal, that it's ALL just a matter of taste. It's just that once it reaches a certain level, it's a matter of preference. Just like I know Mozart is great, still I prefer Bach or Mendelssohn.
Sorry for the long winded reply

I discovered you the week this year I lost my father and best friend in that week and in the darkness I heard one of your songs and I started checking out your music. You don't need me to say your special much love and prayers for you and your people sincerely a nobody from way up north in Alba.
So this song poped up on my RUclips, I have no Idea about the british music scene , but this is the best song since 'dry your eyes'!
I love Ren. When he starts actually singing, I want to cry.
I do cry especially to this one.
An artist named Ren. Changed the world with his voice. Joined people with his music.Listen
Man, I had goosebumps the whole time.
Something about this track, I can really hear it in his voice. I'm still shook. Amazing, unbelievable, insanely beautiful. A man of his craft.
Quality!!! Each time I come back to listen to this or any of your songs I get chills. You’re insanely talented. F the small minority who hate. You do you. Stay positive!
I did not really realize how I miss your music until I hear you again 😮
You're amazing. I'm currently in the hospital recovering from 2 emergency surgeries and you're bringing me peace. Thank you Ren!
Get well soon lovely human ❤❤
@@HotFlush75 thank you
Get better soon ❤
@@rippy4freedom thank you. You're all amazing humans ❤
Hope recovery goes well and you're out and about soon.
Just amazing Mate! As usual an amazing experience to hear your voice vibrate through my soul! Keep on doin what you do!
Just found this guy from his feature with Prof and I've spent my weekend catching up to one of my new all time favorite artists. This dude is incredible!
Ah, yes, he is
I love this rendition too, strings and voice make it more "peaceful", keeping the Verve's two last line hits hard, food for thought indeed.
It's brillant ❤
This is one of the most beautiful endings to a song ever
In 1976, at the age of eleven, I heard "New Rose" by The Damned for the first time (thank you John Peel). It blew my mind and I've been a punk ever since, although I can't be bothered to dress like one any more. I heard "Hi Ren" two weeks ago on a reaction channel and my mind was blown again (along with some tears). Thank you for sharing this beautiful rendition of "Bitter Sweet Symphony" and thank you for your music.
Welcome to the warm and wonderful reniverse
Great song! Thank you very much. Greetings from Germany 🙂
You know it's a banger any time REN posts but you know it's gonna be a BANGER when he brings a quartet
🤯 I can’t wait!!! One of my favorite songs of all time & with REN’s vocals 🤌🏽🙌🏽🔥❤️
YES!!! 👏
I’m new to Ren this week. What had got me thinking the most is how one person can be gifted with such talent and the artistry that goes with it is immersive
I love how the syrupy strings mirror the pace of life, like Ren wants to surge ahead but he has to wade instead. Trying, trying to pull away.
Ren!!! 40 yo mom here… and you are so important to me. I get through my days listening to your music. I’m a bit autistic and that’s def my excuse to be cringe right now… always had a big interest for rap and music in general… you I mesh w so well, I love it! Thank you so much for putting yourself out there… you’re such a talent, bro. I’ve never in my life said this to anyone. Mark my words… I’m sure one of your biggest fans. Love ya!! Wish you all the best!!!!
I clicked on this when it came on my timeline, expecting to mock this because of my love for the original, only to be pleasantly surprised how enjoyable and worthy retelling it turned out to be. Well done Ren, well done...
The Verve liked it, too. Their bassist sent Ren his guitar
I have run out of superlatives for this kid. Just an amazing talent.
just insane...
Just stumbled across this. You got tallent .
If this is your first time seeing Ren, I hope you check out more. You won't be disappointed. Guaranteed
Never had an addiction until I heard Ren, I am officially addicted to him now and is not turning back !! 😅
The original at the end was just the icing on the cake 💥👌🏼🇬🇧
Love you Ren, glad you're back home
I have a really vivid memory of listening to Bittersweet Symphony on repeat on an mp3 player, an English kid living in Scotland, age 13, high with some friends, spinning around on a roundabout in a park, recently divorced parents, struggling with a new diagnosis of Tourette's, incapable of talking to my friends about how I felt...but the song made it better.
Hey ren, I’m 13 and absolutely love your music, you are mine and my mother’s favourite musician and your music is like an escape for me. It calms me down and makes me feel at peace, I also struggle with health problems, both mental and physical so your lyrics really speak to me, love ya ren, keep being you and doing what you love because you’re fantastic at it! 🌍♥️
Just can’t beat a live performance! Love it!!😍 The addition of some original lyrics at the end🤌
Original to the actual song you mean? Not original by Ren..
@@leewoodard5871 yes original Verve lyrics
I am so very excited about this and all the new music coming down the line as well.
I bumped into you on the beach today and it made my year. Thank you for accepting my fist bump. Love you brother ❤
Ren's lyrics are like a lyrical rollercoaster; they twist, turn, and drop us into a world of emotions. It’s a wild ride, but we're always eager to hop back on! 🔥🔥
That part where you say “bare with me “ and with your hand everything stopped is awesome. I love the line about poetry in the city if you listen enough! Every single time you drop another song it encapsulates me. Great job is an understatement, Ren!!
The artistry Ren puts out is just immaculate. Phenomenal
As someone who grew up in the 90s when Bitter Sweet Symphony was all over the radio, I approve 100%! I've always loved this song and what you've done here is special. Also, I can't wait for Kujo Beatdown to drop. I'm always looking forward to hearing your new tracks.
Bitter sweet indeed.
Can only dance your way through it 💚🕺
Another solid live performance Ren 👏🏻😮
Overthinking...a curse and blessing
That vocal at the end... I can die a happy man now!
Not many songs make me emotional, this is definitely one of them ❤
It's some damn magic - that voice, that pitch, that feel....
This was absolutely amazing!!! So freaking beautiful!! I can feel my heart pounding and I’ve already listened to this 3 times 😩❤️❤️
Thank you!! 💜
Gorgeous performance! I already loved this retake but I love it even more after hearing this version, the arrangement is beautiful and the live performances really bring out the nuances of your voice! ❤❤
You have written an incredibly poignant reflection on today’s Britain-modern society anywhere. Poets like you, Damien Dempsey and Chuck D are equipped to open eyes and ears everywhere 🙏🏼💜
