    Draw length and type of traditional Archery equipment is a personal choice.
    Fred Bear was around 130 lbs but used bows between 65 and in Africa used a 125 lb recurve at one point.
    In 1968 I used a 50 lb Bear recurve for Pheasant on the wing, 70 lb for deer, a 35 lb for small game and a 40 lb longbow for target shooting. Whatever feels good for a given event thats your bow weight and length 🎯

    If the bow doesn't have wheels it is traditional! Fred Bear built bows with metal handles decades ago. Let's respect each others choices as far as what we choose to shoot. you are still holding ALL the draw weight no matter what the material of the riser/ limbs are made of.

    I found this to be without any real study of different traditional bows at all. First I personaly own several one piece bows, Grizzly, Magnum, black bear at 62, 58 and 52 inches and have a 28 in draw. All preform as expected, and the 52 in grizzly magnum is a dream at 50#, no slap, no pull, no heavy vibration or hand shock......shoots better than the black bear @ 50# and just as smooth as either of my grizzly's at 42# -58". All depends on quality of bow.

    Thanks for sharing a lot of helpful information. i have two questions to ask. 1. Where does the issue of stacking come into effect on bow length...? 2. Or, where does one experience the effects of stacking happen with bows of the same poundage at different lengths of bow...? My draw length is 30 inches.

    Hi, but doesn't shorter riser means more draw weight for a given limbs? If I choose M limbs for 29" draw and fit them on 21 (4"shorter) riser, my poundage will go up 4#, which in turns means I'm drawing them around 2" further. That makes my apparent draw length 31" for those M limbs, doesn't it? Should i worry about stacking?

    I am pissed because I have a 62" Monarch that I started out with, at 45# draw at 28". I have sequentially moved up from 45# to 60# until I shoot 200 shots a day at 20 meters. I want to move up to 80# limbs but they dont make them. I am considering buying the tools so I can make me some, or getting some 30# limbs and cutting the mid section out and clamping them to the 55# limbs and using my Pound Tester to adjust it. My main question is the longer the length ad more pounds to the draw length or not. In other words would a 66 inch bow and a 58 inch bow that are both rated at 45# at 28 inch draw. Which one would have more pound pull at 32 inches, which is my draw pull?

    John, lot's of key info here for a beginner... researching my options, want to make good educated choices, a big question: You say hunting bows typically have shorter risers (15/17/19), target/comp bows have longer risers (23/25)... why is that? (I understand the overall length options with L/M/S limbs).
    One more question... all the bow length charts give recommendations based on "sweet spot" for my draw length... I understand "sweet spot" as essentially best compromise between power & effort. Why do hunters want shorter bows, when this formula says they will be "stacking" draw loads?

    • @kaizen5023
      @kaizen5023 4 года назад

      Hunters want shorter bows for maneuverability reasons, going through brush etc., but they know they are going to feel the effort more with a shorter bow. Since they're only shooting one shot, they're okay with that tradeoff.

Im a barebow target 3d and Hunter. i shot a Hoyt eclipse with med sf carbon foam core limbs. by draw is 28 1/4 and i pull 46 on my 3d and target set up. my issue is that i shot with Hoyt stealth shots on my bow. i cant find ant wa rule isue that says i cant use them but i have had comments that i cant. as far as i can see they are not in my sight window so cant be used as a sighting point. also they act like the vibration dampening that people stick to there limbs. i know your the man to ask as your relay into your trad and barebow.

      You will get a better release angle with a longer bow/less nock pinch because the angle of the string will be less the longer the limbs are. Longer bows are also more forgiving as they don't have to bend as much as a percentage of their length to obtain the same draw length.

    From what I have seen so far, the takedown recurves are very versatile and adaptable to an archers needs. Question: wouldn't ones draw length depend on the pull weight? A friend gave me an old Ben Pearson 64" recurve whose pull weight is 43 pounds and I can only draw it with some effort and only a second or two without the shakes. I have been looking at beginner takedown bows with the idea of having enough pull for target shooting (i.e. 25-35lb.) and one that I could afford. Am I homing in on one that would be right for a 5' 4" tall 70-year old man?

      Hi Yara, at 5'8" and what appears to be close to a 28" draw I expect a 25" riser with medium limbs would be a great choice for you. A 23" riser with medium limbs is not a bad choice either but most women and me your height choose to shoot 25" risers.

    Do you have a video that shows how I can measure my Draw - Length? I am 6ft 2in and I know my draw is greater than 28" because I have a bow that size and it feels too short for me - I need to pull more. I am thinking of guessing at 30" and see how well that works. What do you think?

    • @natanku1
      @natanku1 5 лет назад

      30" would be a good draw length for you. Of course, you would need 30"+ arrows and a proportionally longer bow in order to safety achieve that longer draw length.

      Yes......That is what it would be used for in Olympic archery. Remember, we are talking here about traditional archery.

      It's the shooting style that's called traditional, as opposed to shooting a compound bow. It's just a label. Get over it.

    A message that everyone needs to hear.If any man have an ear let him hear.
    Repent ye:for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
    For God so loved the world that he give his only begotten son for whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life .
    Palsam 5:5 the foolish shall not stand in thy sight thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also receive,how christ die for our sins according to the scirptures;
    And that he was buried and that he was rose again the third day according to the scirptures:
    The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand:repent ye and believe the gospel.
    That if thou confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead , thou shalt be saved.
    Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the holy Ghost.
    Judgement day is coming be prepared and get ready.

      The Spaniel Inquisition Not even an expert can tell you what type of bow would be best for YOU. So yes they would so you can tell them preferences. I'd you say you're an expert and then give someone a definitive answer about a specific bow then you are speaking with your predetermined biases and that is not good for a beginner

      I think he just means not compound bows. But technically you are correct.

    • @AngelaMorley
      @AngelaMorley 6 лет назад

      This. I think the real answer has to do with your draw length versus the form factor you want in the bow. Chinese horsebows are small, and are great for traditional hunting in the woods or where you don't want to be encumbered by a huge bow.
