I finally had my brain tumor surgery. No cancer, 2 years to get to this point! Now I'm excited to do my recovery watching you catch giant muskie! Congratulations!
Heya! Swede here - and as a person who fishes for a lot of northern pike (they grow monstrous in size here) id like to give some feedback ; treble hooks and metal leaders are your friends. Agressive hook sets are necessary! Rapala lures usually work great - and bigger ones than you think work great.
We get some pretty monstrous pike up here in northern Minnesota and Canada. Yeah rapalas are great i like using specifically the jointed ones. Also there is this one brand only sold in Minnesota called RAW swimbaits and the pike can’t resist it lmao
In fishing, it's strange how after you've caught a particular fish after having tried for a long time to catch said fish, suddenly you'll start catching them more often without even trying. This is an apples to oranges analogy but, I purchased some chatter baits back when they first appeared on the market. I fished with them every time I was out on the water. For over a year of fishing with them, I never caught a darn thing with them. Then, while I was out at a local park pond I was making my way back to my truck and casting as I went, I had a chatter bait tied on and I finally got a bite, (Large Mouth Bass) after a year and a half of fishing with it and having no luck. It got me excited, so I turned around and walked back up the shore of the pond and about fifteen yards from where I'd caught that bass, I got another hit. It was good sized channel catfish. I walked and cast for about fifteen more minutes and I caught a second channel catfish. Now for some reason I'll routinely catch different species of fish with those chatter baits. I must have just been holding my mouth the wrong way before when I was reeling those chatter baits in.
My grandfather used to fish for Muskie in northern Minnesota. Given our 65 year age difference, it didn’t mean much to me at the time-us kids would fish for rock bass and other panfish with bamboo rods.
Awesome, I'm glad you finally got onto them :) Most of the time these fish are right up against walls or under your feet. Next time you go down there, try walking a lure along that drop off in front of you. It looks juicy as hell.
Great catches Nick, love your channel! As a northern pike fisherman I would recommend not using a lip-grip for holding the muskie. If a pike/muskie thrashes while holding its easy to break its jaw.
Gill plate grip with a wet hand, and support the organs. Net as long as it takes to get the beast hooks back out. Pike, musky, and giant pickerel all the same, my favorite fish to catch, fin missiles. If you lip grip, even not breaking the jaw, the thrash cas destroy the teeth.
My bucket list fish is a Northern Pike, which is very similar to your Musky. Great video and I really appreciate you going back to show us just how much work you put into this fish! You earned it and a huge congrats!
@gregsoto2679 Yeah, if you go to the right areas, I understand they are fairly common, I just haven't found the right spot. Fish all over the Northwest US and haven't caught one yet.
@@gregsoto2679 yes full off bones is the Pike where ever you catch one from had some big monsters in my time over 25lbs in the UK never broke the 30lb though, but they are not unpleasant to eat just need to be careful with the bones would rather have a brown trout myself lol
@@dantheman9228 I’ve never weighed a fish. I 🎣 in the wilderness - scales have to be stored and carried. Every ounce matters. I measure them. Caught a 4’ pike - the biggest.
Way to go Nick! No muskie for me yet. One grabbed my leach while walleye fishing. Almost spooled me. Attempting to stop it, broke off. Nearly boated another, it jump out of prop wash, nearly landed in the jon boat.
Lewis Walker Jr.'s 54-pound, 3-ounce muskie, caught on Conneaut Lake, Crawford County, has stood as the Pennsylvania state record since 1924. That's in my back yard....lol Grats on the nice catches!!
CONGRATULATIONS Nick. 🎉 I’ve caught only one muskie. Burnt River, Ontario🇨🇦. It looked so much like all the northern pike I’ve caught I had to look it up😛. Again, very happy for you. 🎣
Good job Nick! I've caught a 45" musky this past october on my kayak and it was the most intense fishing experience I've had so far. Last year I've caught one a little smaller while being in the water in my wadders. These fish are such a blast to catch!
Great Nick! A higher level of fishing! The great Muskie! Some fisherman fish all their lives trying to catch one Muskie. And you caught 4 in one day!!! Tremendous!!!!!
I’m used to landing bull reds and black drum down here in Louisiana near the Gulf of Mexico but I love your videos. Your enthusiasm and inclusion of the viewers is phenomenal. I always feel like I’m with you. Incredible work Nick and congratulations on your bucket list fish!!🎉🎉
You have a gift Nick! I can't tell you how much your fishing adventures do for me. I've gotten off the beaten path. And your videos help me find it. From the bottom of my heart and I'm sure from many others. Thank you! And see you later buddy!
The right lure, the right sun, the right color. Just the right conditions to get on the bite. Fun to watch you have so much fun! Nothing like blowing (or better said pulling) a goal out of the water!
This has not been a very year for me but watching and hearing your trials and tribulations has helped me tremendously. Thank you and congratulations to you on your dream catches. It's as if that I was right there with you: again, thank you so much.
So strange. I don’t fish and yet I look forward to your channel every week. Your honesty, enthusiasm and your filming skills just brings so much joy. Thank you sir!

Great fishing buddy! Musky are great fish! Here in Germany we've got pike which are quite similar, but smaller than the big musky. I'm longing for the old days about 15 years ago when i was able to catch lots of pike in the shallow coast waters of the eastern sea. Up to 1.14 meters. Congratulations to your big catches, this is great!

CONGRATS!!! I just caught my 1st musky this past summer. We were bass fishing on Green River Lake, KY. She ate a deep diving crankbait that I was throwing on 10 lb line. It took me over 30 minutes to land that beautiful 46" musky. If I ever gave up chasing those little green and brown fish, I know what fish I'll go after.

I caught my first Muskie here in the country outside Ottawa Canada a few years ago. It was in a feeder creek and it ended up being a tiger Muskie which is super rare and a cross breed and infertile. We have amazing fishing up here. You should come visit the Ottawa River and surrounding rivers. Good on ya my friend!
Insane fishing. Even more insane is the ice on the railing where you were fishing. We have just had a 35 degree C day here in Brisbane Aus. Well done Sir Nick
Well done Nick a new species for you. When fishing for muskie or northern pike use a wire trace on the end of your line to stop bite offs. It could save you losing that fish of a lifetime.
I've been fishing Muskies 46 years....they WILL humble you. Also, you need a much bigger net and have GOT to switch to braid and steel or heavy fluorocarbon leader. LOL! Nice job on getting your first Muskies....but monsters are in the 50"/30+ pound category...and can take a lifetime before you get your first one of those....but given there are shad there and big current, that water could hold a 50"+ incher, which is the true "monster" category for Muskies....when you set the hook on your first true giant, you'll know it, because it won't move....at all. You'll think you are snagged, until you see the giant head shakes and your knees start to shake...it's what dreams are made of....I've been fortunate to boat several 50"+ inchers and had one 50+ POUND class fish on that I lost right at the net...high 50" range...I will probably never hook another fish like that in what is left of my life, but a guy can dream...
I finally had my brain tumor surgery. No cancer, 2 years to get to this point! Now I'm excited to do my recovery watching you catch giant muskie! Congratulations!

Definitely steel leaders. Jointed Rapalas work great especially when trolling.
Heavier mono and fluorocarbon will also keep them from cutting you off and they won’t see it
