Damn bro this video is spot on. Just a went through a whole camera purge and sold a few items to KEH. I think the issue we face the “consumer” is being bombarded by RUclipsrs saying we need this lens and we need this body. I’m guilty of falling into it at times but if I have gear i’m not using I just sell it. It’s pointless to have it sitting there. As always thanks for keeping it 💯
Telling you man - I go thru it to! Thinking I HAVE TO HAVE something for this one part of my job when I’m crushing it as is. Not worth the extra investment.
Dee giving it to em raw and uncut.
Amazing video! This hits close to home! Especially redundant focal lengths and backup cameras! Thanks for positing this 😊
My pleasure!
One of, if not the best Vid with advice that is down to earth, very realistic, easy to understand, no bull sh*t ,, ego challenging (mine too 🤪) etc. Thank you man!
I appreciate that!
Exactly when I was about to get a XS20 to go along with my XH2. Thanks
Any time!
Funny that you have a picture of the Canon P in the thumbnail and like...I want to buy that lol.
DONT DO IT (unless you already have the cash for it - then have fun. I’m selling mine I think 😅)
@@DeeRosa sell me yours hah.
Yeah I mean these are just hovering around a price for a nice one where it's not a total no brainer but seems like a nice buy if you can find the right one with the right accessories for the right price.
@@benbunch4159 it’s yours. Dm me on IG if you’d like!
Dee bringing some sanity to counter the massive RUclips marketing machine. Love it. I recently let go a bunch of gear to MPB that falls in line with this video. As a hobbyist I thought I needed two bodies and overlapping primes and zooms for all the wrong reasons. Well, mostly because RUclips influencers told me I needed them. Learning to keep it simple now and buy only what is needed and will be used. Thanks Dee!
Right in the middle of falling into the abyss of gear purchasing again and found this video. My wallet is thanking you while I’m staring at my used once rs3 mini lol it’s a skill issue and instead of buying more gear I gotta get good. Who woulda thought
Guilty as charged! LOL! Thanks for the sobering video!
Great message in your video! I’m guilty of owning overlapping focal lengths and multiple format digital and film cameras. Buying new gear is no substitute for just getting out there. I need to focus more on experiences vs buying more gear. 👍🏽📷🎞️ 📸
On the same theme I stumbled across the documentary " The Minimalists " during lockdown and it really made me evaluate all aspects of my own consumerism in a positive way. Photography wise I have all the cameras, lenses, bags etc I realistically need, resaleable at a profit because I always bought used carefully at good prices. If I really feel a different camera or lens is going to add value to my enjoyment of what for me is a hobby then it has to be funded by letting go of an existing item, that really makes you consider the trade. I've drawn a line and ringfenced my expenditure to the value of the gear I have now. It feels good and quite liberating to be honest.
Really like these videos man!
More to come!
This is spot on bro! Love it ❤️
Thank you 🙌
I NEEDED THIS. just cancelled some impulse buys
Hi 👋🏻
I’m a French viewer that love to watch your videos.
I’m started my photography journey recently and bought a 2nd hand X-pro 3 and 27mm 2.8.
I just purchased an 56mm 1.2 that I will receive soon.
My question is, wich lens do you recommend me for larger field of view ?
I’m hesitating between 18mm 2.0 or 16mm 2.8.
Can you confirm me that I will have a significant difference between 18 to 27mm apsc ?
Best regards
Quentin
Nice one. Needed that. Thanks
Glad it helped
Great advice. I love Borrow Lenses. I rented a second FX30 for a gig and charged that to the client. I am getting a second body. This one will be the A6400, which I'm planning to use as my walkaround photography camera. I'm moving away from shooting photos on my phone and this cam also shoots 4K and can be used as a b cam and a webcam.
Great Video, I switched over to M43 and gave up on Full frame after rushing to buying gear I didn't need/use. I'm enjoying a simple 25mm or the 12-35mm and keeping things light. I LITTERALLY felt more pressure due everyone telling me to buy Sony gear; now I love my little Lumix G9
Gulty as charged. I wondered briefly why we don't see any more videos like this one. Then I realized after doing this video where do you go from here? Most of the camera audience for RUclips are people who want to make a good decision on buying gear. So if they stop buying gear, why do they need you? I can see only one more video after this, entitled "Go Out and Shoot" but that completes the series. 1. Stop buying gear and 2. Go Out and Shoot.
That’s a great idea!
I think you have a point. But I think having a bunch of lenses and maybe even a few bodies can be part of the fun of the hobby.
A lot of the lenses I have I bought because I also just like how they look, it's fun owning it and just looking at it or playing around with it.
Sure I could just limit my gear down to what I actually "need" and just have one fixed lens camera and do all the photography I do now. But it's also fun to have the choice and kind of try a bunch of lenses and bodies over the years, you can always sell it.
Awesome topic! After selling my regret-gear I became firmly committed to fixed lens cameras simply to get off the next-lens hamster wheel.
I think this notion is true, except for this year. With all the new film products, it's imperative that we show support for the new products (granted it's not making you go broke, obviously)
The market will show what's necessary. Support what you need.
Yeah I’m just a big advocate for not going into debt.
I am 1,000% guilty. Have purchased several thousand dollars worth of gear that is mostly collecting dust. Trying to find that "spark".
You and me both!
Agree with the back up camera. Just sold mine. 😁
We all fall into the trap.
The truth has been spoken.
But but but I NEEEEEED 3x 40mm equivalents 😭😭😭 Y U Attak me, Dee?!
I'm guilty of this! Minolta 40 f2 and Voigt 40 f1.4
@@Jaywestend 🤣 two Fuji’s and a Voigt for me
so you're saying i need a 3rd! @@Theirrelephant
Yeah but 40mm is the exception right?
@@DeeRosa Wisdom if I ever done read it
Based on the thumbnail I was totally expecting you to be roasting the moment lenses 😅
I have several cameras im getting ready to sell. Keeping a couple. A k1000 for 35mm and my K-50 DSLR
Nooo! Keep buying shit so that you start to realize redundancies, and get tired of it and sell it for way cheaper on the used market!
Me looking at my multiple bodies and redundant 28mm lenses, all with CineBloom Filters. What else are you gonna say …
*slowly walks out of room to avoid confrontation*
I have CAS , Camera Acquisition Syndrome. I have about 6 different systems and at least 3 lenses of each. I dont want help but I maybe I need help. 🤣
me too, I have 7 cameras of 6 systems, I like them, but I feel something not right; I want to sell some, but I don't want to sell them cheap, like lose money in a gamble.
Shhhheeeeeessssshhhhh 😵💫
@@gofy9990 ehh it's fun to have them. I'm in no hurry to get rid of them but I do have some on my eBay store. Some of us like to just use different types of cameras and not care too much about the final results. More techy and less artsy is how I roll. Especially since I don't do photography for money and use photography as a hobby/self meditation.

Those curls 😍
Whenever I have two of the same lens I inevitably just favor and shoot one of them. Right now, for my main 50mm it's a much slower f2.8 over a 1.4 because it's smaller, better ergos and I rarely find myself needing (or nailing focus on) a 1.4.
"BUT f2.8 IS SO SLOW!"
It really isnt. Especially on digital.
The rendering is different so that's the main reason I hold on to the 1.4. But would I miss it if it was gone? Not really.
Same with 85mm. I almost always just pick up my DSLR and it's excellent 85/1.8 over my Leica. Yet I still own a 90mm for my Leica. I love the 28mm for my DSLR. Is it fast? Nope! Another 2.8. Should I spend $800 for a Leica CV in 28mm?.... I probably wouldn't use it as much so why?
...and don't get me started on redundant film bodies. Do I need one for each mount? (sigh)
About the same from me.
@@DeeRosa the only thing that motivates me to sell the gear I am not using is to use that money to buy new gear (which I also dont need lol)
I think the mistake people often make is they consume too many videos and see this new tech and images taken with that tech. Doing that brings the hype and makes you believe you need to buy it to create similar images. Same with presets etc.
This happens more when we are not making images much and we forget how good the stuff we own is.
I only ever own one camera and usually keep that camera for 5-6 years at least. I had one lens for years and now have had the 23, 35, 50 f2 and the XT3 bought on discount for 999 for the last 4-5 years because, honestly that is all I need to cover 99% of my use cases.
In the future I may pickup the 90 f2 but only when I specifically need it otherwise it may only get used for like 5% of images which would be a poor investment.
Yeah. We take in too much. We also have to learn to tame the desire to just buy stuff. If you’re doing it in one part of life - you’ll do it in every part.
👀 me looking at the books on my shelves thinking I wanna buy more
Oh yeah you get whatever you want tho ❤️
SIMPLICITY IS THE ULTIMATE SOPHISTICATION BECAUSE THE LESSER YOU NEED THE BETTER YOU FEEL.
Amen ✊🏽
WHY ARE YOU ATTACKING ME. MPB SAID I COULD RETURN IT!!
Over the last year I realised I’m more a collector than a photographer. I sold 80% of my stuff, kept only what I’m actually use everytime I shoot and realised; I’m happier. Buying gear you think it makes you a better photographer? It’s not gonna happen.
SPEND MORE MONEY IN PRINTS!
Printing for the win!
i just saw the title and came to say no! I wont watch this but i'll leave a like for a positive message for mental health!
We have to stop buying gear like we stop buying drugs. lol.
We stopped buying what now???
Too late
Nooooooo!
Dammit I just bought more shiii today!
If you bought it before the video came out it doesn’t count
Okay @ me next time 😭
Tempted to sell it all for a D780 and 50 1.4D
Risk it for the biscuit.
Yeah yeah yeah…. we are all guilty of buying things we do not need. But then don’t you think RUclipsrs/influencers including yourself contribute to this??? Just look at your video titles. Sure, we don’t need to follow all your (and other influencers) views or opinions but then isn’t that the purpose of your videos? X% of your viewers would get ‘influenced’ one way or another.
I could almost say it to myself, stop watching RUclipsr sh*t. In fact, I have unsubscribed many this week 😊
Unsubscribe from my channel too then please and make a video title that says that. If you’re not grown enough to not buy stuff you don’t need that’s on you.
@@DeeRosa I did and I have. Done! Again I’m capable of making my decision and owning any mistakes I made. Just sick of those pretentious and click bait titles. All for viewership is it not?
