I’ve accepted the fact that I’m not an extrovert and I’m not going to be a professional photographer (a la Vivian Maier). I’ve stopped shooting things I think others will like and only started shooting things, scenes, and moments that are significant to me. I don’t care if other people will see the image as boring or simple, for me that moment will be a memory of my life.
Good stuff Dee. As a 68 year old man I tend to shy away from photo clubs , community etc but I do enjoy listening to young people like you who get it. thx.
I agree….I’m 62….was an avid photographer from 15-19 years of age….then life got in the way…now I’m retired…have a nice DSLR….but use my film SLR’s much more….old habits….back to processing my on B&W film and printing in my darkroom….I’m lucky enough to have a non profit photo center where I live and so thrilled to meet so many young people into film photography…makes me feel young again to hang around and talk photography with these kids..👍🏻
Well Said! I've found that in a creative career talent will get you a gig, but being humble, appreciative and easy to work with gets you the long-term clients.
Man I always appreciate your realness and perspective. I always wish I could attend more events that they Camera and Coffee club put on but it don’t always align. Would have been dope to meet you in person, just to say what’s up. Really enjoy your content.
Such an awesome video, Daniel. I’m an introvert and traveling is much harder for me these days. I remember traveling through the southwest 28 years ago on a road trip and wish my love for photography would have been as strong as it is today. Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Nevada it was spectacular! If I went today, it would be so much different from an artistic perspective.
yessir! freaking love how real you are dawg. these people think they're cool but they're actually lame as hell. just be kind its so easy and stress free.
What a great video bro , I live in an area where I need to travel to meet other creators and very hard to link up with other photographers. So when I see a person who’s getting into it dude I geek the hell out. I love coffee and I love cameras I can talk about it all day. At the end of the day no one is perfect all you need is listen and help if needed. People who judge people and taking them for their own benefit are complete asshats.
You’re speaking so many facts bro. I’m an absolute nobody in the photo world. I got my first dslr and slr like 15 years ago and I’ve just been taking photos as a hobby, but I can’t stand some of these pretentious dudes on IG. That cameras and coffee club sounds so sick, followed all those accounts on IG I hope I can make it to the next one.
I’m a big gear head and more active in the buy/sell community (lowkey seen you in those groups lol) but a lot less active in the photo community. Had a bad (mostly cringe) experience going on photo walks last year and haven’t been able to shake it since. Big fan of your channel and this convinced me I should put myself out there a bit more. I don’t even post to IG so it’s a little awkward when people ask to see my work and I don’t have anything out there. Isolating myself has definitely been a self limiting thing that is making this hobby a little less fun.
Sent an E-mail to my local photo club yesterday asking a few questions about joining. They said I was very welcome and could come to their next meet without even being a member yet to see what it was all about. But I won't lie, while I am currently probably the most excited about meeting like minded people, that's not what motivated me to actually get in contact. That was the fact that my home darkroom is absolute trash (and I mean it, like unsafe levels of sketchiness.) So I thought, hey! Either I spend a ton of money and time getting even more printing equipment that I can't afford and don't have the space for. Or I just join the photography club and use a professional darkroom. (:
Came out with the testing jabs and hit us with the uppercuts...i love it thanks for posting this video i hope to go on a proper photo walk and take trip just to shoot soon!
I want to do more photowalks with my local community, I just do it for fun but I don't know where to find people in my area to do walks with. I do want to get out more(maybe also when the triple digit weather cools down too). I tried FB but it was full of people looking for paid work or were full of conspiracies so Im not entirely sure what to do. I wonder if Threads is a good place for looking for these types of meetups.
Have you tried Instagram? Since I started I've have a few different people message me to invite me on walks, and have also seen public posts for group meet ups for anyone interested. I live in a very large city though, so of course that makes a difference. Still, unless you live in an area with almost no other photographers, you might be able to at least find other locals who you could build an online rapport with, after which you could do the inviting. I know IG is not what it used to be, but I still see a huge number of people posting in my area. It's much more photo oriented, and photo community oriented for me than FB ever was.

went to a photowalk with one of the bigger stores in Seattle. I love Seattle and I also understand how we are sometimes with the whole Seattle freeze thing people say (born and raised in a city close by) but man the amount of why are you using that, upgrade to this, or just the obvious only black dude at the photowalk vibes, were just so ass. I was blessed to have my girlfriend buy me a Leica for my Masters graduation, and the oh how did you afford that questions were wild! Or the that's a waste of money, you could have gotten xyz. Just not a good time overall. lol It was a one and done for me, but I came across a FB page that did photo walks, and they were the sweetest people I ever met. It's honestly a shame that the store's walk was like that, but it all comes down to the people, I can't blame the store because they just advertised it, but man did it turn me off from the business entirely.
Watching now but just commenting to say that this vid has had two titles and two thumbnails in the three hours since it was posted 🧐 Edited to say: Not a criticism! Just weird
Yeah well you know. 95% of people/instances are correct about the sensivity thing these days. And this sensitivity is corroding society on a very dystopian kind. Though you are actaully right with the instance you picked here.

Content is cool. Creating art on your own is cool. But community... is everything. We're humans that yearn for connection.
The moment we lose that knowledge is the moment we become douchebags, honestly.
