Viltrox 27 and 75 are die hard lenses! Must buy for speed and sharpness with a shallower depth of field without breaking the bank for FF.

The sharpness is great and Dustin Abbott said the 75 is as close to an APO lens a non APO lens has ever gotten in his testing.

Fuji did a good move opening the mount. Now there are great third party lenses for a very good price and the Fujifilm ecosystem is more attractive.

Nice review! Man, if I was still doing pro photo/video work I'd be stoked about this lens. I'm 100% on the train where I do photography for fun now, and like all the retro/rangefinder-style cameras fuji makes. I don't remember how long ago you made that video Dee, but I agreed with you then, and still to this day that the x-pro3 is fuji's best camera ever.
I have no doubt that this viltrox lens is excellent, but I'm into the small and tiny lenses. I honestly hate that fuji updated all of their lenses to be bigger and designed for bigger more conventional mirrorless camera bodies. I swear if I did pro work again, I might get back on sony or lumix since I can get fullframe counter parts (at similar sizes too) at similar prices
I know it's not just me haha, I want fuji's brand to be all about making photography fun again. Beautifully designed smaller camera bodies, with small + fast lenses to go with them. I understand that adding an autofocus motor usually means bigger lens sizes, but man I know they can eventually do it/I just feel it's nowhere on fuji's or any 3rd party manufacturer's road map. If that's the case I'm sticking to my voigtlander 1.2 x-mount trio and will stick to MF the rest of my life lol.
I say bring on the xpros, x100s, xe's, tiny leanses ... Heck I'd even say bring on the Instax Evo's. Fuji = fun +functional +fashionable and I hope they stay that way

I was hoping you'd make a video on this one! And you did not disappoint! Thanks for sharing your thoughts as always! 🙏🏻
I've been bouncing between 23mm and 35mm (APS-C) finding the first to wide and the latter to tele so I've been considering something in-between for a while. Partly due to how I remember really loving the Panasonic 20mm back in the day, and my wife's 40mm for her Canon DSLR. I also been wanting faster glass for almost a decade now (I use the f2 ones), but the 1.4 always seemed kinda expensive to me. This lens seem to maybe fix that in one fell swoop. I've also sometimes struggled in low light when doing events (I'm not pro, so that's fine), but this seem like a price accessible way for me to be able to do lower light events.
Regarding Fuji's lens focus: Lens makers have to carefully choose which kinds of lenses to make and companies in different situations have to make different choices. Fujifilm not only have to develop lenses, but their entire camera-lens ecosystem, this is probably partly why their lenses are so expensive. As for why they don't make the 1.2 lenses, the value proposition of X system for them is the small size, and their 1.4 are still quite compact compared to the competition. I also want to defend their f2 line: who else makes such high quality lenses that are in that size class? Speaking of, if there's a hole I think it might make more sense for Fuji to fill is to make a smaller tele lens that's longer than 50mm, like a 70mm f2.8, and I honestly *only* see Fujifilm being willing to make that. For Viltrox or Sigma they wouldn't consider such a ”slow” aperture not impressive enough.
Moreover… the official lens makers also can't make every single focal length (there's a opportunity cost at play here), so they've standardised on some focals. The 40mm equiv focal lengths is one that is rarely made. Sony only made their 40mm a few years ago, with the whole being plugged by others (yes, including Sigma). Same situation with Olympus/OM System. In that regard I think Viltrox is doing something very smart by making not only something cheap, but something truly unique!

Fujifilm has a 27mm 2.8 pancake lens, so, in theory, they have already covered this focal length; it may not be 1.2, but it's much lighter and, in my opinion, also takes beautiful photos. 😊

Its getting hard to ignore this lens. I've been living at 27mm for some time now, starting with Fujifilm's f/2.8 and now Voightlander's f/2 manual focus lens. A 40mm Voightlander lives on my Nikon DSLR, so I am completely immersed in this angle of view.

You don't need this lense. If you do portraits you don't care for maximum sharpness besides there is already the 35mm f 1.4 that I own a very decent lense from Fujifilm. The Viltrox is far too heavy for streets and in that focal range I would always use the 23mm f the 35mm f 1.4 or the 27mm Voigtländer. ;-) That's my opinion. Viltrox is doing a good job but I doubt that going "Pro" and heavy and becoming the new Sigma is the right way. xD ;-)

I was hoping you would have some thoughts on this lens, your pragmatic approach and great videos are class!
I’m a new hobbyist Fuji shooter with an XT-3, kit lens and adapted cheap canon glass I kept when I switched.
Over time I was thinking to pick up the 23 f2 for its weather sealing and size and the old 35mm f1.4 as a nice wee two lens walk around kit. I keep getting drawn back to thinking about getting the Viltrox though as a one lens do it all solution. Used in the U.k. I could get the two Fujis for £650 - £700 ish and the Viltrox for £400 - £450 new. Being a working class Joe that’s a chunk of change to me.
    Any thoughts on this conundrum?

    • @DeeRosa
      @DeeRosa  8 месяцев назад

Because it’s cheaper to get the Viltrox - get that.
The fast aperture will be able to get you shallow DoF that you wanted from the 35 and the weather sealing means it can go places with you like the 23. You can always get a tiny lens later on but if you want to save some cash and still have all the features you’d want - Viltrox.

I think that’s the route I will go down when finances allow.
Someday I will get the 35mm f1.4 though. Your reviews of it have convinced me it would be a shame to have a Fuji and never try it out.
Thank you for the channel. 👍😀
