A good talking point.
Hey Mash It, I don’t know if the screen lottery affects on the color gamut, but other than that do you think that the laptop would be a good option to create vectorized logos with inkscape? Just for a casual use, but I don’t know a lot about this and i’m a little bit loose between all the specs that it requires, by the way my T14 is ordered with the 400nits lowbattery display. Also, do you think the screen is good for the eyes?
I got the AUO screen which isn't the best but isn't the worst. The gamut is ok, and fine for the work I do but if you need it to be colour accurate then make sure you get it calibrated. I find the screen comfortable of my eyes and I use it at 100% scaling for hours at a time. Also I would recommend getting a decent IPS monitor for home use so you can dock it as the 14" can be a little small for extended use (I have a 27" monitor on my desk with USBC that I dock it to
@@MashITTech Thanks for reply. Do you think it would be possible to run the 14S AMD from a battery pack? They haven't offered one in accessories, like I have seen them do before with other laptops, so maybe they lock out battery packs?
hmm I am not sure mate, that was one thing I forgot to try. There is a good chance it will work with a PD charger as it is very power efficient. As soon as the gen 2's come out I will get one in for review and test it but I expect you will probably be sorted by then
The laptop contains 2x USB 3.1, 2x USB-C Gen 2 right? I think you accidentally said "we have another USB-C" when talking about the ports on the right side of the laptop.
Hey, just waiting for my T14 R7, do you think that maybe the R5 is better optimized for what this laptop build and specs offer? I mean like really with a R5 I’m fine but finally I had taken the R7 option because I thought it wouldn’t be any failures with the thermal heat but reconsidering the build of the laptop and the specs it have maybe with a R5 it perfoms better and ends up making it more durable in a long time use because the notebook will be kept at less heat. I decided to buy the R7 over the R5 because people said that these amd processors ran cooler than their intel competition and I did not imagine that in this model there would be much problem with the issue of heat but now I’m starting to see a lot of people complaining about heat issues specially on the t14s. I know that you had not tested the R7 on the T14 but my question is, for what you could read from people opinions what do you think about this laptop with the R7, do you think that such a powerful processor as this is well optimized in this machine? Thanks for your time bro keep it up 🔥 Maybe if I could now I’ll change my R7 T14 for the R5 in this same model but I think that I should give a try and see how it goes with my configuration. Thanks in advance for your advice, they are very much appreciated and sorry for my english, I’m not a native speaker. 👍🏼
Just have to say that I want the laptop to code and become a programmer not for gaming, I think that the only games I’ll play on this laptop will be minecraft and maybe some indie kinda games because I also have a good desktop pc for gaming, so I’m just trying to get that commodity of a portable laptop and also a good robust machine with good perfomance and durability that can be used in a long term way, also if you know a better laptop for what I’m looking to just tell me, found your channel today and I see that you know a lot about computers and do very good vids, I hope you good luck in this world, in my opinion your quality and quantity of full reviews in the laptop world is so amazing and you deserve a lot more views and subs to your channel for sure bro, keep it up with the great content and motovation 👍🏼
Due to stock shortages, I have still not been able to get my hands on a r7! The T14 handles the r5 so well I think it will still handle the r7 too. I know there is a lot of people complaining of heat issues with the T14s but that is a smaller laptop with single heat pipe whereas the T14 has 2 heat pipes on the heatsink. I absolutely love my T14 and have just finished a video comparing it to the new XPS 9310 with tiger lake (spoiler, the Ryzen destroys the new tiger lake and is so much cheaper). I think you will be incredibly happy with your T14, if you find that the r7 heats up too much you can return it and get the r5 but I am sure you will be fine (please come back and let me know). Thermals on the ryzen 5 is amazing. It never gets hot on the keyboard, the fans are never overly loud and it doesn’t throttle. The intel on the other hand is HOT! @@MashITTech I totally agree with you; I’ve been searching for the right laptop that suits my needs almost for year now. And the problem has been aggravated by that covet which hindered the supply of new imports. I am also obsessed with that issue of overheat and fan noise.Your effort should really be commendable.
Would you say that the same model with the ryzen 7 4750u would draw much more battery in the same usagesircumstances? And if i got it right... the fan noise is much quieter than the t14s models at the t14 models? Because its very important for me to have a good notebook for school and programming with good batterylife and verly low fannoise or at least a frequenzy that isnt high-pitched. Sorry for my bad english im living in Germany :)
Your English is very good, I understand you perfectly! I haven't tested the 4750u but the 4650u I have in the T14 performs very well and is also very quiet. I am going to do a comparison review to hopefully help you make a decision (probably around Wednesday as I am still fully testing the machines to be able to put them head to head. But the fan is very quiet on the 9310 yes, and it has performed amazingly well so far and is definitely my favourite ultrabook of 2020 so far.
@@MashITTech Thank you so much for the fast response :)! Im happy that you can understand me that well. What do you mean exactly by 9310? And could you do as well a batterylife test:)? Im very thankful that you take that effort to help people like me ;). I was looking at first for a t14s ... butit has heatmanagement problems as well as fan noise because the cooling design isnt enough for the amd ryzen cpus. the t14 has a smaller battery (50Wh if im right) vs the t14s (57 Wh or smth like that). If the t14 gets 8 hours plus without big effort it might be perfekt for me.
I’m trying really hard to decide between 4650U and 4750U. Is the 4650U going to run cooler and get similar performance due to throttling of the higher core 4750?
@SimGunther I had the AUO panel in my hot running T14s, actually it was a really good panel and I could easily live with the barely noticable ghosting.
I have the Ryzen 5 model. It seems to run a lot cooler than the ryzen 7 model. This laptop never gets overly hot and the fans are pretty quiet! Battery life has also been good. I get between 8-10 hours light use
@@vovical I have a x1 carbon that shares the dual USB-C and HDMI port but I was only able to connect either 2x1440p with usb-c (tried adding a HDMI monitor but it would only connect once I removed one of the usb-c monitors) or 1x1440p and 2x1080p trough the usb-c port with the 1080p monitors using MST. It did work with 2x1440p external + the built in 1080p screen. I was hoping that the T14 with the more powerful AMD graphics would be able to use 2xusb-c + hdmi for 3 external monitors.
Yes, as I found the thermal solution of the t480 with mx150 was inadequate even with the dual heat pipe. Also the T14 is much more comfortable and quiet to use
I am also thinking of getting thee 32gb memory and 1tb. I wish the RAM is not soldered....ut will order the 4750 RYZEN... i HEAR THE 4800 IS 15% BETTER but no where sells it unless in Europe
Yes, 1 ram chip is soldered, 1 you can access. The 4800 is better but the T series won’t have them anyway as they use the pro CPUs. At least the 4650u has SMT, the 4700u and below do not

Great review, thank you. I've unfortunately had a VERY HOT T14s with Ryzen 7 and had to return it. You can read about it here: medium.com/me/stats/post/a8bc65560836 - anyways now I want to try the T14 as I might like the rubbery coating more and slightly bigger chassis with dual heatpipes might be an advantage. But should I get a Ryzen 7 again or a Ryzen 5. My question: Will there be a thermal benefit by choosing the "weaker" processor? Your benchmark scores are not too far off of mine that I got with my Ryzen 7 in the T14s. 6500ish in Geekbench 5 and 2890ish in Cinebench 20. But I got temperatures between 80 and 105 °C (which is the thermal limit) regularily even with light loads. Starting up the League of Legends launcher would literally MELT the T14s. The launcher. Not the game. :( Advice?
Check out our league of legends video here for our Ryzen 5 temps: ruclips.net/video/GEFGFA6pNkU/видео.html I have not tested the T14 Ryzen 7 but from what I have heard it also runs hot like your T14s. The 5 on the other hand has been amazing, internal temps are ok (can get into early 90s with very heavy long term load) and external temps are amazing, plus there is almost no fan noise. I haven't tried it yet but you can get software to increase the fan speed if you wanted to lower temps more but I was happy with it as it ran out of the box.
@@MashITTech Thank you for your response. I'm really on the fence. I've heard people claim R7 in T14 and even T14s is fine with 28°C room temps, then I've heard people claim R5 runs hot in T14 with very annoying and rattling fans. There seem to be a lot of "monday-laptops" with sub par QC. Do you have any clue how much more powerful the Vega 7 is compared to the Vega 6? Also in all honesty, I don't think many people actually "need" the R7 performance boost over the R5. If I can shave off a few degrees by going R5, I'll gladly do so. Thanks for the amazing videos!
I would estimate about 10% more fps in games, which on the whole won't make an unplayable game suddenly playable. DOTA, LEAGUE, CSGO, Fortnite all play well on the Ryzen 5 so would also on the 7. COD MW won't be enjoyable on either :) The only good thing is returns are free with Lenovo, so give one a try and return if not satisfied. Although this can be a time consuming process. And I do agree with the Monday Laptops theory, and also the part lottery. (panels and SSDs) its always luck what you are going to get.

Side note: Lenovo website said it would take about 6 weeks to arrive 😂, thats likely how popular it is. Great deal, was cyber Monday, just under £1200 and fully maxed out except with the low power 400nit screen and no extra card options like cellukar. Would be circa £1500. Loving a bargain. Probably didnt even need the extra ram but should help on games.
Excellent review style and clarity, keep it up!
Thank you mate, I guess you got the ryzen 7 then? that will be even better than my ryzen 5 as you have the Vega 8 gpu. The games you mention all run fine, I play civ and TW Warhammer regularly 👍
@@MashITTech Yes it will be the 7. Thats great! I will see how high I can go on those kind of games, I really dont know. I am used to bad old 2014 MacBook intel graphics.
If you want a video idea on chips, comparing or even just talking about these ‘pro’ chips vs regular. Some think pro means better, some think it means for business professionals so maybe not as good for some things. Extra features and I think a bit better performance from what I hear.
Thanks a lot!
I got the AUO screen which isn't the best but isn't the worst. The gamut is ok, and fine for the work I do but if you need it to be colour accurate then make sure you get it calibrated. I find the screen comfortable of my eyes and I use it at 100% scaling for hours at a time. Also I would recommend getting a decent IPS monitor for home use so you can dock it as the 14" can be a little small for extended use (I have a 27" monitor on my desk with USBC that I dock it to
@@MashITTech great! Thanks boss 🙏🏻
6 months old but still useful! Considering a 14S with Ryzen 7 Pro 4750 because it's on offer at the moment at about £1150 with 32/1 TB
Haha that was our first review! It’s a really great laptop thanks to the ryzen cpu and great keyboard.
Oops thanks for the heads up. You are right, it’s 2x usb 3.1 and 2x usb-c
P.S. your English is amazing!
@@MashITTech wow thanks for all your advices man I really appreciate it, def gonna check that t14 against 9310 battle because xps was my second option because linux people say is it really good too in linux and it works great for developers so def gonna check that monster battle between these two great market options and see if the T14 is as good as I think. And sure, when I get my R7 T14 I’ll let you know if all works great between my point of view and what are my thoughts on it, def gonna wait too for you to get the R7 T14 and check a more professional review too, thanks for the quick answer man! Congrats on your work, keep it up with all of this! 🔥🔥🔥
@@MashITTech you're not wrong about R7 stock shortages. Ordered September 25th, date keeps jumping around but it says expected Nov 26 atm
Hi, Any comments on the thermals? Intel or AMD has better thermals after usage .Pls do let me know
Thermals on the ryzen 5 is amazing. It never gets hot on the keyboard, the fans are never overly loud and it doesn’t throttle. The intel on the other hand is HOT! I had a T490 with i7 (8th gen) and not only did it throttle like crazy the hot air coming out of the exhaust was uncomfortable on my mouse hand!
Oh, not sure if you saw it on my channel but I compared the T14 to the xps 11th gen too which detailed thermals
Thank you so much mash for an amazing review, a highly appreciated effort, I just wonder if this laptop comes with different battery options. Could you please let us know about how many watts is the battery of your device? Also, how did you find the speakers of this laptop? I am someone who is using a screen reader; that’s why, the sound is very important to me.
Hi there, thank you. Unfortunately the laptop does not come with any battery options and the battery is 50wh. The speakers are average at best, they upward firing so clear and usable but lack bass
@@MashITTech thank you much for your prompt response and clarification. Your review helped me a lot in deciding on the laptop I really need and I also liked so much your comment on that difference between R5 and Rr seven in terms of heat; this is very important to me.The content of your channel is really amazing. Thank you also for paying much attention to respond almost to all comments; this shows your respect to your viewers,. I wish you more and more success. Warm greetings from Egypt.
Thank you for your kind words, I know how hard it is choosing the right laptop so I do like to try and help everyone where possible to make the right choice. The T14 is an incredible laptop and the ryzen processor performs amazingly. For the price I do not think you can beat it for a 14" work machine
I have a trackpad freezing issue with mine, when I browse the web sometimes the two finger scroll stops working. Do you have any expierience of this?
My touchpad was a little jittery out of the box but a driver update through vantage sorted that out. I didn’t have scrolling issues though
I’m trying really hard to decide between 4650U and 4750U. Is the 4650U going to run cooler and get similar performance due to throttling of the higher core 4750?
Did I just respond to you on reddit? The 4750 will get about 20% better cpu and gpu scores but at much higher heat
Mash IT oops I think so haha.... so sorry, but the indecision is killing me.... thanks for your great reviews!!! Haha
Haha it’s not a problem mate. If you have any questions please ask.
Does the speaker grill get filthy fast compared to everyday use?
I do clean my laptops regularly but I never notice it getting filthy
@@MashITTech Woaw that was a fast response and thanks for the intel!
Price ?
I want one but I find it ridiculous that in 2020 you still can get a shitty ghosting panel.
So true, and the panel lottery is also something which drives me insane
Will it run gta 5 and how much fps it will get?? Please tell 🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is magic!
thank you
Just google on "T-14s battery problem" before you consider to get this laptop. Lenovo just seems to ignore the issue.
Oh I have not come across this! I will check it out
The i7. 10th is better?
is lenovo vantage available for ubuntu?
5:25 The Innolux panel should have this panel ID in the bios:
N140HCG-GQ2
I think the innolux is the best panel but I got the AUO, its also really good. Its the BOE that is rubbish
@SimGunther I had the AUO panel in my hot running T14s, actually it was a really good panel and I could easily live with the barely noticable ghosting.
Pls let us know Linux compatibility on R5.. this is very imp
I heard that battery life sucks for t14s and gets so hot. What about this one?
I have the Ryzen 5 model. It seems to run a lot cooler than the ryzen 7 model. This laptop never gets overly hot and the fans are pretty quiet! Battery life has also been good. I get between 8-10 hours light use
Great video.
Thank you
Hi the WWAN M.2 card slot can put another SSD?
Aparantly a couple of people have got it to work, I tried a sata 42mm and a pcie 42mm and neither worked
does it have backlight keyboard glow in dark stuff??
Yes it has a white backlit keyboard
If I swap the fn crl key in windows using the vantage tool, will that setting hold like that once i restart into Linux.?
Yes. You can also change it in BIOS 👍
@@MashITTech okay thank you
Can you test how many external displays it can handle at 1440p/1080p? :)
It has hdmi 2 port and a displayport 1.4 (i think) capable usb c port
@@vovical I have a x1 carbon that shares the dual USB-C and HDMI port but I was only able to connect either 2x1440p with usb-c (tried adding a HDMI monitor but it would only connect once I removed one of the usb-c monitors) or 1x1440p and 2x1080p trough the usb-c port with the 1080p monitors using MST.
It did work with 2x1440p external + the built in 1080p screen. I was hoping that the T14 with the more powerful AMD graphics would be able to use 2xusb-c + hdmi for 3 external monitors.
I have just got some new monitors in the office, I will see how many I can connect when I get in tomorrow and let you know
Is the graphic performance better than a T480 with MX150?
Yes, as I found the thermal solution of the t480 with mx150 was inadequate even with the dual heat pipe. Also the T14 is much more comfortable and quiet to use
Blows away the Mx 150 even at full performance. The Ryzen 4000 iGPU is more comparable to the Mx 350
That's laptop run blender?
Thanks !
Ryzen 5 vs I5 which better?
Ryzen 5 👍
Is it possible to install WWAN in T14 AMD as an upgrade?
Yes it is, the sim tray and cables were all in place
Hello, do you have a list of the 4 screen panels?
You can find it on notebookcheck.com look for Lenovo display lottery
thank you for answering that one
@@MashITTech you're welcome :)
At least the 4650u has SMT, the 4700u and below do not
How about the touch screen?
The model I reviewed did not have a touch screen
Is the ram upgradable?
@BrokenBones-z8l thanks dude I've bought it the 16gb soldered one and what mhz should i buy for the ram?
When charging and working on the laptop it overheats. Is this a common problem?
Laptops always get warmer when charging the battery. But what do you mean by overheats? do you mean it feels warm to the touch or are you talking internal temps?
@@MashITTech the base of the ThinkPad becomes pretty hot. I mean i use of business purpose only and i cant place it on my lap while working literally gives a burning sensation. I've used lots of laptops before but this heating is intense. No other complaints. Any remedy?
Wow, I certainly haven’t noticed that on mine. What model are you running? And when it is getting hot are you just completing basic business tasks such as word/excel/email?
@@MashITTech that's right. You can add a few more meeting apps like Cisco WebEx etc. This is the ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 processor Intel Core i5 10th Gen. I got this laptop from my organization early September in absolutely brand new condition
@@MashITTech just to reiterate the heating happens when i plug it to charge and use it simultaneously. No problem when i charge it w/o using or using w/o charging. But it provides a backup of 7 hours max and sometimes i need to work 10hours at a stretch also when I'm traveling it's impossible to ignore working without charging
Do You think AMD version in 2023 is still wort it ? For about 700$ brand new ?

Everytime i heard micro sd card, WHHHY not full size SD!
Man I agree with you 1000% I keep thinking to myself well at least it has one but I hate micro sd card slots, they are so fiddly and I then have to keep faffing with an adapter in my camera 😭
:( Advice?
Check out our league of legends video here for our Ryzen 5 temps:
ruclips.net/video/GEFGFA6pNkU/видео.html
I have not tested the T14 Ryzen 7 but from what I have heard it also runs hot like your T14s.
COD MW won't be enjoyable on either :)
The only good thing is returns are free with Lenovo, so give one a try and return if not satisfied. Although this can be a time consuming process.
And I do agree with the Monday Laptops theory, and also the part lottery. (panels and SSDs) its always luck what you are going to get.
@@MashITTech So true. Yeah already returned my T14s with R7. Crazy hot temps. If I can get a good deal on a R5 T14 with some merchant I'll pull the trigger, as right now delivery times from Lenovo are about 5-6 weeks here. Ugh! Thanks again for that useful information.
My sister is in the 1st class and her school gave her this laptop...and i have the hp core i3 7th gen core...lol she is better than me
Wow she is lucky! It’s an amazing machine
@@MashITTech Yup so lucky
coolio doolio
What? No removable battery, no service cover with access to disk/RAM... I'm not buying it.
No they stopped the removable battery after the t480 series. You can still remove the base plate to change 1 ram stick and the ssd. The whole industry is pretty much heading this way, it’s such a shame
