Amazing to see people turning their struggles into a positive, creative endeavor. Lots of strength and love in your story. Eager to see more of it in the future!
Not sure how RUclips brought me here, but I am glad it did! Thank you for sharing your story and creating something from it that your wider audience will be able to enjoy with you. I had some of the same sentiments as @cinderbones mentioned, but I am very excited to see where you take this- I can already sense that you have much more 'soul' to pour into this game! And as a fellow developer who would like to make something and document the journey someday, your simple yet honest and open log is very inspiring!
This was really interesting! I really like the way everything in the game symbolizes something in your own journey. Also, there are already is a game named "Evie", so you might want to consider changing the name, e.g. add a sub-title or something, such as "Evie's Journey". This should help with discoverability and branding. And it's probably better to do that earlier rather than later. Anyway: wishlisted and waiting for next devlog! ♥
Thank you! Yeah I noticed the other horror game and had the exact same thought exercise you went through. I'll probably be adding a subtitle before the next devlog to help separate the two.
I can't get enough of devlogs! Added to the wishlist to throw a little support that way. Really liked the way you framed the decision to lean on Unity. I'm trying to focus on going all-in on UE, but can sense bouncing between the /very/ different tooling systems causing some time sinks. I've got to find a way to mitigate that a bit myself (better note taking/journal, probably)
Thank you for the support! If there were more collaboration with other devs, I could learn by teaching, but since it's just me, I don't have that vector for hardening my knowledge base. That being said, if you are diligent about it, then I think documenting the process while you work in Unreal is a great idea! That way you're essentially teaching yourself what you already know, and eventually you won't have to reference the docs at all anymore. It may slow things down initially, but would likely be worth it in the long run!
I love this so much! Your ability with storytelling, video editing, on top of all the technical skills that go along with game development! I would absolutely love a more technical dev vlog or walk through of your game about how you incorporated particle effects, post processing effects, and environmental design to tell the story and make the player feel certain ways!
Thank you! I've definitely heard from a few others the desire for me to get a bit more nerdy and technical, so that may be the direction I take the next one...
@@reboundstudios8Eh, I'll be happy either way. The video was beautiful, you're quickly becoming my favorite game dev youtuber. There's that technical curiosity I have, but you still have to make videos that appeal to that player base your trying to market to.
Thank you! I'm hopeful to get a bit more clarity on a demo and/or kick starter campaign in a couple of months while I'm still plugging away at new content. So hopefully I'll have some more specific answers soon on that.
Game looks good, and promising. But i'm more interested in what it can become from the seed that it is today. As of right now it feels like it lacks an identity of its own. It feels like Hyper Light Drifter, both in gameplay and story, with a 3d environment. A monster/sickness attacking the main character, seen throughout the story but rarely confronted directly. Mechanically it also seems extremely similar to HLD. All the characters, specially the cell thing, look quite generic. The environments, i can't quite put my finger on it, but something feels off. It feels bland, but it shouldn't, the spaces aren't specially void of stuff, the lighting looks cool too... Maybe it's the lack of textures, the low-poly aspect, i'm not sure. Being completely honest: I'm interested because of the story you intend to tell relating to your son, and the condition of not being able to spell it directly. There's a ton of possibilities there. How does the story affect the gameplay? Is there some twist to the healing mechanic?
Thank you for your feedback! I agree, it's a lot like HLD, and that was a major motivation for me. For the graphics, yeah I know it's kind of a polarizing look, and I will definitely explore more of the visual style and even character representation in the coming months. I have a lot more planned for both the story and gameplay elements, and I'm hopeful that I can finish up some of these features to show off next month.

Glad that your son is fine now. This is a hearth wretching story. Added to wishlist
I’ll wishlist this, reminds of me Death’s Door and Hyper Light Drifter which are two games I absolutely love
This seems really wonderful, the concept and style of your game is really captivating. It is great to hear that your son is doing better.
Your story really hooked me into checking out the game, I hope that it will continue to develop in its charm!
i really love the art style

That's epic how your basing the story off of real life experiences; I'm sure your kids feel loved. Bod bless you guys!

The graphics and VFX are really stunning, I'm really looking forward to this game! Any date for kickstarter/demo yet?

The game looks great, but the story sounds depressing af.
