Not on saving him, not on training him. Seeing him happy and so calm during his groom was wonderful. He behaves much more like a giant golden retriever than a feared guard dog despite what he went through which is a wonderful testament to the transforming power of unconditional,wise love. Wally is so handsome and he was such a good boy when he was being groomed. Unbelievable amount of fur....I wonder if it was discarded? A blanket could be made of it. I thought it was gorgeous.

I’m not much of a dog person, but Wally would change my mind. I’ve had German shepherds most of my life until 2018 when I lost my bestest girl. She was my last, for now. My point is, I understand how delicate a double coat is for a large breed dog. While it’s hardy, it can be damaged so easily without even thinking, if someone who isn’t aware of it shaves it off. I’m glad you guys have a work around for Wally so he stays cool in the summer. So many people don’t realize that a dogs fur (double coated) keeps them warm in the winter and helps to cool them off in the summer, if it’s not damaged. Thank you for sharing him with us. Also, your video made me realize how long ago Covid came about. You guys were busy during that time. Two babies and a dog really puts the time into perspective when it feels like just yesterday we were all on lockdown and afraid. You have a beautiful family.

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 I'm a sucker for those storybook endings. My current dog is a Chow Chow. He is my 18th dog and my 5th Chow Chow in my 74 years. He was 3½ when I rescued him. He was the largest Chow Chow I have ever seen. He was skin and bones at 65 lb. He was shaved like a lion because his coat was matted. Now 5 years later he's 120 lb with a mane like a lion and a full-grown out coat. FYI: For people owning dogs with long thick hair it is important to provide the nutrients for hair growth. A supplement of cooked sweet potatoes is what is needed for a lustrous coat.
Just watched the Girl with the Dogs video with Wally's haircut amazing how calm he seemed through that whole process a few times with the ears he was not happy it seemed but besides that very calm.
I am here while watching the episode from Girl with the dogs. Wally is so behaved but too bad his hair had to be shaved due to heavy matting. God bless the furparents that rescued Wally. Wishing Wally and his furever family good health

What a great way to ship dogs to the USA, Canada, or other countries! If I ever travel to China, I will definitely volunteer to fly a dog to his new home! Like a lot of others, I watched his groom and then came here. I absolutely love watching him just melt into the floor in the most lazy boy way lol. In his cage in China, he's always standing. He was probably in so much pain that he couldn't sit. Now he can be lazy and melt into the floor as much as he wants. You're helping him be comfortable physically and mentally. Wishing you many years of joy with your fur baby 🥰

Ohhhhh, he is good with the babies. I am so happy to hear that. And so big. Wow! What does he eat? I adopted an older Pomeranian who was emaciated, just skin and bones with a little bit of hair. She weighed 7lbs. Now, she is a walking woolly Mammoth, fluffy and happy and weighs 12lbs. Love her so much. Dogs bring so much love to the home.
The level of malnourishment that this poor dog had to deal with is heartbreaking. Thank you for saving him and giving this wonderful baby the life he deserves.

I’m so glad that you have Wally in your lives! We have a rescue African mastiff who also was impacted a lot by Covid shutdowns. (She had just started being able to meet other dogs successfully, and then everything shit down, and now she’s just a cranky senior who adores the humans she spent time with during the pandemic, but wants everyone else to go away.) I think she and Wally would probably be kindred souls!

I just watched the grooming video! I'm so glad that you've got someone in your corner to help get Wally's coat to hopefully grow back to normal. I watched this 3 times! Wally is such a majestic dog. It is truly unique how the universe had your and Wally's paths cross and that he was able to come to the States to join your family! It is a shame that his coat is damaged that even after the patron saint of dog grooming Vanessa from Girl With The Dogs tried to fix his damaged coat he is still adorable after his haircut as he is more comfortable. I have rescued a number of older rough collies who has bad starts and I understand about the cost ! I had to have a few clipped every spring . The groomers are so good now … they can leave an inch like you do and not shave them down . So it all works out fine . Wally looks so happy

Like a lot of others, I watched his groom and then came here. I absolutely love watching him just melt into the floor in the most lazy boy way lol. In his cage in China, he's always standing. He was probably in so much pain that he couldn't sit. Now he can be lazy and melt into the floor as much as he wants. You're helping him be comfortable physically and mentally. Wishing you many years of joy with your fur baby 🥰

Ohhhhh, he is good with the babies. I am so happy to hear that. And so big. Wow! What does he eat? I adopted an older Pomeranian who was emaciated, just skin and bones with a little bit of hair. She weighed 7lbs. Now, she is a walking woolly Mammoth, fluffy and happy and weighs 12lbs. Love her so much. Dogs bring so much love to the home.
The level of malnourishment that this poor dog had to deal with is heartbreaking. Thank you for saving him and giving this wonderful baby the life he deserves.

I’m so glad that you have Wally in your lives! We have a rescue African mastiff who also was impacted a lot by Covid shutdowns. (She had just started being able to meet other dogs successfully, and then everything shit down, and now she’s just a cranky senior who adores the humans she spent time with during the pandemic, but wants everyone else to go away.) I think she and Wally would probably be kindred souls!

I just watched the grooming video! I'm so glad that you've got someone in your corner to help get Wally's coat to hopefully grow back to normal. I also can't believe you guys only live about an hour away from me- so it's like a local legend, living so nearby! I'm so glad you've saved him, and that he gets to live like a king for the rest of his life!

I watched this 3 times! Wally is such a majestic dog. It is truly unique how the universe had your and Wally's paths cross and that he was able to come to the States to join your family! It is a shame that his coat is damaged that even after the patron saint of dog grooming Vanessa from Girl With The Dogs tried to fix his damaged coat he is still adorable after his haircut as he is more comfortable. I have rescued a number of older rough collies who has bad starts and I understand about the cost ! I had to have a few clipped every spring . The groomers are so good now … they can leave an inch like you do and not shave them down . So it all works out fine . Wally looks so happy
