I transformed my qigong practice after reading your translation of Wang Shujins Bagua book. By combining his dynamicpostures with Dr. Yang Jwing Ming's idea that qi is generated in the liquid crystal structure of the fasciae , and adding theNLP technique of anchoring, I can get a " flood - like " qi ( Meng Tze ) with only one complete breath !

Sounds like you've completely disappeared down the rabbit hole.

In Ba Gua, everything comes down to the Single Palm Change. Everything else is just details...

Thanks. It seems that a lot of different martial arts have similar body mechanics or actions at higher levels. We now have a full-length DVD of the system. See our blog for info if you are interested.

Thank you for your posts. I have study shito ryu karate for a number of years now, but it being a hard style has taken its toll on my body. Of the internal styles Bagua has been the one I'm the most interested in and your videos have been the best I've found on RUclips in explaining it's principals and techniques. Wish there was a Bagua teacher in my area, only tae Kwon do, and Brazilian jui jit su are available in my area, along with my old sensi's ex students teaching shito ryu. None of which I'm physically able to do anymore. So your videos are a life line, thank you for your instruction.

You are most welcome. I am glad you enjoy the material. I have a video available also, at plum publications on the internet. Good luck finding a bagua teacher. I had to go to Taiwan!

@29jarheads: That is the point of these applications, they can be used on your friends. They are heavily influenced by my work in Nonviolent Self-Defense which is used by mental health workers. Thinking man's defense. And it works!

whether there should be compliance with the rhythm and breathing as the main rule of the internal style ...?

Very nice video. Very informative! In Karate (Goju Ryu) we have very similar body mechanics in kake uke & ashi sabaki (catching block & foot evasion), though its more static.... after enough years of training all martial arts seem to converge somehow..

@taijibagua04 : You're right, except for a brief clip of Wang performing in Japan, and an even briefer one in Taiwan, there is little to see of his bagua practice. I have a lot of photos in my book, Bagua Linked Palms. But it would be nice to see him actually perfroming the set. He was quite secretive about his practice of bagua; although, very open in his taiji and xingyi teaching.

Ah....excuse please, but Yang - style tai Chi is the best looking marital art ( if performed correctly ). Now, regardingthe so - called ' single palm change '..........what this move Really is, is a defense against someone grabbing your( right ) hand with their left, to prevent you from drawing your sword. You circle your grabbed right wrist up to yourright as your left reaches in to grab opponents shoulder or clothing. Your right hand turns ( changes ) to grab the opponent'sleft wrist and pull down over your own , left , forearm and break opponent's elbow. This move is very clearly shown in Dr. Yang Jwing Ming's ' Analysis of Shaolin Chin Na '. The Yang short form I learned from an assistant instructor ofWm. Cc Chen is a catalog of what later became Aiki - ju jutsu. Pardon me please.

A thousand pardons for my lack of true understanding of the single palm change; I have only practiced it for 40-odd years and humbly admit there is still much to learn. Thank you for your insight.
