    Hey man great video. I utized your script today to upgrade my internal stock hard drive to a 2 tb ssd and it went flawlessly. For any of those that are thinking about doing this, dont hesitate, its pretty straight forward. I did it to an xbox one s. Super easy. Now my 1 tb drive was pretty much full so it took nearly 3 hours to transfer everything anx i did it on a super fast gaming computer. I also added a 4tb external as well for additional space. Booted up first try everything is there and moved it all to the external for now except my currently played games. Fantastic performance. For those that wonder, i leveraged a 2 tb Samsung evo for the job and a 4 tb samsung evo in a drive enclosure for the external.

    I don't often comment but this is one of those posts that helped me when all else went wrong. I tried doing various clones with boot uefi usb and windows programs to no avail. I followed this tutorial to a T using the 6.1 script. Also you need to disable antivirus during robocopy or you may get stopped. My first attempts did not work through the usb for some reason and I kept getting tons of errors. I put both drives on the sata bus and it went swimmingly after that. Shut down after copy and removed source then rebooted to finish with the gui part at 16 minutes into the video. Xbox works great now and I am chuffed. I used a Crucial 500MX 1Tb drive. Thanks again for the tutorial it is much appreciated.

    Use this video when I replaced the one x's 1TB with a 2TB SSD. Very smotth and accurate steps, and I used the new script, I think 8.x. The only thing that got me, is that you can't have too much drive letters assigned on the PC when you run the script. I have to disconnect all my network drives, and also dismount my mapped lone drive (I have drive letters mapped all the way to Z). If you do not disconnect all the extra drives, then you are going to get a extra large number for the original xbox drive when mounted. For me, the drive number is 14 before I do the disconnect. After that, the drive number settled as 4. The 2TB SSD run smooth in the xbox now!

    Thanks, worked well. My drive kept failing so used your script to set up a new bigger drive. Took a few tryes to copy the data across as the old drive keept over heating but got there in the end with a fan pointing at it..

    Excellent work as always, I'm currently updating a 2TB SSD as I type! One comment on your script though, please check for available drive letters or use System Labels for the robocopy cmds. I actually had an I: volume mounted and I copied about 1GB of personal data to my new Xbox drive before I noticed. Easily rectified, but also a simple fix.
    Keep up the good work ;)

Only way I can get it to turn off is by doing a full shutdown . Or can I unplug the drive once the Xbox is on sleep low energy mode and before I turn on the Xbox I plug back In ?

    Hi, is Linux script supporting "Autosize Non-Standart w/ 2TB Disk GUID" ?
    I suppose no :(
    Can you add support for "Autosize Non-Standart" in Linux script?
    Usage: create_xbox_drive.sh [options]
    Options:
    -c|--source Source drive to copy data to target drive -d with -s 2
    -d|--drive Target drive to install Xbox filesystem
    -s|--stage Install stage [0|1|2|3]
    0 - will fully erase drive -d
    1 - will erase and partition drive -d
    2 - will copy source drive -c data to target drive -d
    3 - will rewrite drive -d GUIDs
    -t|--disktype Disk GUID to set [0|1|2]
    0 - 500GB
    1 - 1TB
    2 - 2TB
    -m|--mirror Mirror standard partition sizes specified with -t on drive -d
    Not using this option will autosize 'User Content'
    -h|--help Display help
    Examples:
    create_xbox_drive.sh -d /dev/sdb -s 0 (Erase a drive)
    create_xbox_drive.sh -d /dev/sdb -s 1 -t 2 -m (Partition standard 2TB drive)
    create_xbox_drive.sh -d /dev/sdb -s 3 -t 2 -m (Rewrite 2TB GUIDs)

No weird noises, laser assembly works for both BD and DVD, but still I get error E100 at 56%. Is this enough to make it give an error? If so, how can I fix it? Please help me

    • @wisamalzataf3268
      @wisamalzataf3268 6 лет назад +4

      some may not be in countries where it can be covered by warranty , and so they need bigger size , its annoying to have external drive , plus some might have data larger than 5 tb so they need internal and external drive, for example, my collection of digital games , i have 6tb, less than 1tb on the internal drive, and less than 5 tb on the external and about 2 tb on another external drive, , and xbox one x only have 3 usb ports, one i keep for one drive, the other for my Astrop A50 3gen headset usb cable ,and the 3rd one i connect usb cable for my elite controller, because wireless will have input lag that can effect FSP games if you play it as a professional you can notice that , so changing the internal drive to 5tb is a good option and i will go for it for sure .

    Did they Ever raise the internal TB cap limit; in a latet System Update? Or is it still stuck at 2TB....I recall PS4 upping thier internal storage limit to 8TB with a System update, and even added USB Hub support; which also supports 8TB..So, in Theory, you could be Rocking 16TBs on PS4 -- with the Right set up.
    Edit: Personally, I just wish to Upgrade my Xbox One X to 4TBs -- So I can keep all of my Digial games Installed along side my Disk games.

    • @mpdavig
      @mpdavig  5 лет назад +1

      No and I doubt they ever will at this point. The PS4 is very loose with drive size limits since they allowed for an easy upgrade path day 1.
      The Xbox One has no real hard drive upgrade path and almost 6 years later 1TB is the standard. On the plus side Microsoft did allow for external USB drives day one and claim up to 16TB of external storage is supported.

    • @KaeganThornhillTheCyberRaven
      @KaeganThornhillTheCyberRaven 5 лет назад

      Thank you for the Quick response. And I recall reading about that, but never seen anyone try to see if the Xbox One, Could truly read/use (with major failure) a external 16TB drive -- with these methods. Highest I seen someone do is 10TB an even then, they said it was hit and miss. While PS4 allow you to have upto 8TB internal and 8TB external ( thus limited the chances of crashes and major errors). And yeah, I'm sure Microsoft is aiming to let the Xbox 2 to have huge internal storge support -- to help make people want to buy it sooner, when it comes out. Along with other bells and whesles. Maybe even the possibly to switch out parts.
      Edit: And theres a Rumour that the PS4 might be getting another major update that will allow it to Support 10TB for both Internal and Exstral....But not 100% confirmed yet.

    Great video!!! I installed a 2 TB HDD in my original Xbox and I have decided to upgrade to the X. I got a little confused with the warning. Are you saying that even if you install a 5TB hard drive internally that you will only be able to use 2 TB of space on it? If that is the case, I imagine it's best to just stick with the 2TB HDD I already have?

    Such A pain. Ms might as well use custom soldiered flash storage

    • @mpdavig
      @mpdavig  4 года назад

      There is soldered flash storage.
      The OS is split between the motherboard NAND flash at 5GB and a possible 100GB of critical system files on the hard drive. In 2013 things were done this way to save cost and for security purposes.
      Compared with the original Xbox's 256KB-1MB NAND or the 360's 16MB NAND 5GB is still pretty generous.
      The biggest reason for the HDD requirement though is the Xbox One's use of a nearly complete Windows 10 installation. Sure the interface is neutered but Windows 10 is there.
      Compare that with the original Xbox who's OS is on the hard drive (non-removable HDD) and the 360's OS completely in the NAND (removable HDD).

    • @st4r444
      @st4r444 4 года назад

      @@mpdavig I think they might as well make a system with full soldiered flash no hdd for both os and games. Lighter, more room to cool heat, possibly faster than HDD if it's custom flash and protect hackers from messing with system files. So pointless to have HDD since they don't even allow us to remove without voiding or going through stupid steps

    Mhh… So what us the current situation regarding a HDD Upgrade?
    Going past 2TB appears to be impossible and even just going past 1TB is not recommended while you're an active *Insider Preview* member?
    Looks like the only reason why I'd want to touch the innards of my Xbox One X would be for a marginal SSD performance Upgrade, no?

    • @mpdavig
      @mpdavig  6 лет назад

      Yes going beyond 2TB does not work correctly:
      ruclips.net/video/tcoa8Xx_6oU/видео.html
      Going to at least 2TB is fine on the Insider Preview program but you want to copy your 500GB or 1TB contents to the 2TB drive because OSU1 is useless in this case since Preview dashboards are beyond OSU1.
      And yes, going to SSD only improves load times but I'm not sure it is worth the added cost.
      Not changing anything is certainly valid if not the best choice in most situations.
      If nothing else. This process is good for fixing a system with a bad hard drive.
      I discuss the current state of everything in this video:

    Thanks for the great video. Before i carry on, is there any real benefit (i mean, visible in either boot/loading time and responsivness) to upgrade to an ssd? I was thinking about swapping the default 1TB non ssd to a 1TB ssd but since they are not cheap i'd like to know if there will be any visible real benefit
    Thanks

    • @amlenke
      @amlenke 4 года назад +1

      I did mine today and i woud say there is a noticeable difference especially with games that have longer loading times. It seems to have resolved some of the glitchiness and stuttering of several games and the whole thing definitely boots faster on average. Reduces loading by about 1/3-1/2 in several cases. Its a trick ive been doing for years to my pcs and laptops to get better performance so yes its worth it. Just dont go cheap on your ssd. They are not all alike and you will see better gsins from better quality drives. Google best drives and make your decision from there. I always use samsung evo drives as they are the best but there are others that are adequate.

    So you paid over $ 1,000 dollars for storage on xbox one x . That's now more than a pc and does way way less . Really smart investment. MS will drive me crazy with the dozens of (very similar) product names it selects. So, if anyone can tell me whether the X Box One X Scorpio still really exists - or whether it was just a one-shot edition - I would appreciate it.

    • @mpdavig

      MS hardware names, especially this generation are the worst. Starting with the name "One" itself. I'm sure this was Don Mattrick's decision.
      Now the "One X" can make games look better in general on any TV particularly if it improves the resolution and frame rate but without personally owning a 4K TV I've been happy with and have continued to use the original "One" and "One S" models.
      That said, the "One X" will exist as long as this generation does.

      Yes, I have a video where I installed a 256GB SSD. I used the Linux script here but it would work with the Windows script as well. You could theoretically go as small as 128GB but you'd only have 10GB of usable internal space.

      Not a stupid question and you can. I use Clonezilla personally and it's fine when going to drives of equal size. If you are going to a larger or smaller hard drive my scripts are much much easier.

    • @TRhoden92
      @TRhoden92 5 лет назад

      @@mpdavig Would that be because the cloner, obviously, would clone the drive exactly how it was and if going to a larger drive the partitions need to be proportional to the overall disk space?

    • @mpdavig
      @mpdavig  5 лет назад

      Exactly. This is taken from a comment I made a couple days ago about a similar question:
      You wouldn't want to adjust the partition sizes using clone software because the Xbox One expects specific sizes. The difference between a 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB Xbox One is not just the "User Content" partition size but the disk GUID itself. The specific partition sizes and GUID values are contained within the script and should be maintained to ensure the hard disk is both recognized by the Xbox One and is resettable. This isn't to say you couldn't use clone software but my script takes all of the guess work out. I used a combination of CloneZilla and gparted in the past but there were numerous steps and the process took hours.

    Hello Guys.. I have a question maybe someone can help with.. I know that this is not the same type of upgrade that I did.. I went from a 1tb drive to a 500gb ssd using the USB reset method found on another website and yes I have left a message on their also with no actual answers except another user saying he had the same issue with the same fix I did.. Well here is the problem After the upgrade everything went fine but my cd drive would not read any discs it would not auto load discs even though u could here it working but u would get an insert game if u own it error if launched from a previous install also.. The only fix was setting the power saving mode to always on instead of energy saving and doing a hard reset.. after that u would have no more issues but as u should know then ur xbox never really shuts down thus defeating my purpose for the upgrade which was quickier startup times from a energy saving setting which it does from a minute and half to 1 minute flat but then it would never see the drive after restart.. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.. thanks

I know I can just try but am afraid it may cause issues where if it doesnt work then it freezes up the 2nd console that needs the hdd. Like a copyright encoded type thing that locks up the system. Figured worst case is put it in and see what happens and if it won't work just put it back in the original console. I know it's not like the 360...where the hdd was encoded for each unique console.

      dred05m Hahahaha... I think you misunderstood. I want to do the upgrade. I just don't know what upgrade I wish to do yet. Do I want more storage or faster speed for better load times. I am far from a beginner. I've modded every video game system I've owned. I have done several JTAG/RGH mods to an XBOX 360. Have a XK3Y installed on one of my XBOX 360's. Have installed modchips in PS1, PS2, GameCube, XBOX. I had already did a HDD upgrade on my original XBOX One using a 7200RPM 750GB Western Digital Black HDD 2 years ago. So I think I got this handled.

    • @mpdavig
      @mpdavig  6 лет назад +1

      @AmyGrrl78 I'm a bit torn on this myself but here is what I would recommend in order of preference:
      1. 2TB SSHD - in my speed testing, video to come shortly, after starting the same game 2 or 3 times, performance was much closer to SSD performance than HDD and SSHD is only $10 more on average compared to HDD. Plus, since this is an MS supported size resetting isn't an issue.
      2. 5TB HDD - you get nearly 3 times the space over 2TB and 12 times over 500GB, enough said. It's the slowest option but this mostly only affects load times not game play. Also, the most expensive option and cannot be reset.
      3. 500GB SSD - obviously improved load times but that's it and you'll likely wind up loading games from an external anyway.
      Right now I have 2 2TB SSHD systems and a 4TB and 5TB system.

    • @mpdavig
      @mpdavig  6 лет назад +1

      @lilhed - 1TB SSD is awesome, it's the price tag that gets me
      This is just a question of whether you value speed over size or vice versa.
