    I can see me " upgrading " from my Neo Classic to this model. The cost of the film means it's too expensive to waste film on poor shots. At least this way I can decide which of my successful shots I want to print 😊

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  2 года назад +1

      Exactly, although a printer would also allow that. Which do you prefer, a printer or a hybrid camera?

    • @dunnymonster
      @dunnymonster 2 года назад +4

      @@cameralabs I've considered the separate printer option but I still like the true " analog " look directly from the camera itself but without the worry of wasting shots on the ones that don't come out so well. At least I can check the shot generally before committing to print. I doubt I'd use the print feature to print images taken with my phone or " proper cameras " but it might be a fun experiment 😉

    i got the instax mini 11 this year for my birthday and fell absolutely in love. i love capturing my life on polaroids as i find it so much more special to have a physical copy of a picture rather than having it all on my phone. then a couple days ago i discovered this camera and now i can’t get it out of my head. i love the idea of having it be both digital and film. personally the quality of the digital photos you showed doesn’t bother me too much, as my own phone doesn’t produce the best quality photos, especially zoomed in. besides i think it has a nice nostalgic vibe to maybe the 2000’s with the early digital cameras

    This will be my first instant camera. Love the modern effects with Bluetooth capabilities and a generous sized screen and mainly the fact that it doesn’t look like a 6 year-old’s toy like most instant cameras these days. Can’t wait for mine to come in! I have a business and take pictures of highly coveted shoes and I like having these little reminders of all the product I got in and owned for a short period of time. I do plan on occasionally importing from my phone and printing, but it’s nice to have the built-in camera and effect options. Not a fan of wasting expensive film, so this is a great option!

  • @summitpointpunk
    @summitpointpunk 7 месяцев назад +2

    I feel like it's underappreciated how much the Evo fixes the biggest problem with the phone printers, which is, if your phone stops having compatibility with the apps or the apps stop being supported by Fuji, the printer is bricked. With the Evo, it should always work as a digital camera, and as long as Instax film is available, it will be able to make prints of its own photos for a long time. The Evo is way less reliant on Fuji supporting the cell phone apps than the printers are, and if there were to be a shortage of Instax film, it'll still be moderately useful as a digital camera. I view it as a lower-waste option than the fully analog or printer options.

    I ended up getting 3 smartphone printers (mini, square, and wide) AND an Evo
    I may have got a bit carried away, however, the smartphone printers will allow me to do not so instant prints from my Digital SLR camera (i have to send the images across to my phone first (and mess around with the wireless settings on the camera as the camera will likely not recognise my phone due to how the security on its wireless connection works), hence the “not so instant” part)
    And the Evo will be for when I don’t want to faff about with my phone

Definitely the Evo, the effects might seem basic but if you think about how long a 3D effect sometimes can take or that you have to sit down, crop etc. it's just so much easier this way so I decided to switch from digital photography to this hybrid way and way more simple way of doing it.

    Thanks. I ordered one for a 3rd time after returning it twice. I have a love/hate relationship with this thing. On one hand, it's a major disappointment. Fuji really missed the chance to put their signature film simulations, along with a quality sensor and lens in here rather than crappy looking filters and a subpar sensor and lens. On the other hand, it can produce some unique looks when you nail the shot with the right settings. I was hoping for a Square and Wide version, but Fuji doesnt seem to be interested in making them. Not sure why given how well this has sold.

    Have you gotten a feel for what difference in quality there is in the print between an analog Instax camera's print and a digital Instax camera's print? I've always presumed the analog would be higher quality but that's merely a presumption.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  2 года назад +2

      It's really subjective. At first glance the digital ones look 'better' as they're often more detailed and sharper, but in overall style, you may prefer the analogue, especially as the sensors in the INSTAX digital cameras can sometimes look a little electronic unless you apply a bunch of filters to them. The analogue INSTAX cameras are also held back by cheap lenses, so I'm curious to see how a higher-end lens on third party models would compare.

      suprisingly the camera will recognise ANY JPG image you throw on the micro SD card, but it seems to error out if the resolution is too high
      the highest resolution ive had success with so far is 2048 × 1536 (i haven't tested printing the image)
      if you copy a landscape image to it, it automatically applies a crop to make the image portrait, but that can be adjusted in the cameras settings (if you want the image to stay landscape, you have to rotate the image)

    • @cameralabs

      They're hugely different cameras, the INSTAX is basically a phone-quality camera with a built in instant printer, whereas the XA5 is a much better quality camera with swappable lenses. If you're really into photography and likely to swap lenses and or take pictures in low light or of moving subjects, iId get the XA5, and consider getting a printer for it if you want the prints.

    Regarding your statements found at 12:21, and working in reverse, is it possible to take an image from my computer, Transfer image to the SD card then place the SD card in the camera, will the camera read and accept the image from SD source and allow you to print the image from the camera? (b) Also if I press print action on an empty camera, can the App discern if the picture "actually printed " or will it allow the transfer of the image as a categorized "printed" transferable image. Could this work as a bypass to requiring the consumption of film to simply transfer the image captured on camera?

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  2 года назад +7

      Don't underestimate the popularity of instant cameras - INSTAX is the most profitable part of Fujifilm's camera division. The bigger question is whether people will prefer analogue or digital for their instant cameras...

    • @theangrymonkey
      @theangrymonkey 2 года назад

      I wasn’t sure about that either but sometimes a camera makes you want to use it. I find that with the Lomo Square, X100 series and the Instax SQ6

      For me it is the experience and satisfaction getting the print outs almost instantly. Cant beat this than merely scroll my photos on my phone. And it is so much fun to share them with others. People open up and smile immediately when they receive their photos there and then. Win!
      And it is true, instax contributes the MOST of fujifilm's sales. If im not wrong, fujifilm is leading in sales compared to other brands currently.

    • @theangrymonkey
      @theangrymonkey 2 года назад +2

      @@miniteddy5555 completely agree. You can print them but I never did and there’s something just a bit flat feeling about a 6x4 from a photo printer. An instax always feels a bit special. Everyone loves to get given one.

    • @Sabundy
      @Sabundy 2 года назад

      Then you should really do some research. Fujifilm sells about 11-12 million Instax cameras a year every year. Not to mention all the film they sell. Actual physical photos are trendy and popular in the same way vinyl is. You clearly don't understand the appeal if you think everyone's main goal is "convenience". It's all about what you want to do, and what experience you want. Just as there are many different ways to listen to music all with their own pros and cons. Same goes for photography.
      And bare in mind that aside from Fujifilm Instax there is Canon Ivy, Kodak, and Polaroid all selling instant cameras (there are more but those are the main four). Not to mention HP makes instant photo printers too. So clearly there is a sizable market out there if that many companies are making products for it.
